Had my last midwifes appointment today. Baby is 4/5 engaged and I am struggling to hold in my wee Halloween Blush, baby is right on my bladder. Baby has also had a 'bit of a jump in growth' as the midwife put it and I'm now at 98 percentile with 2 weeks to go. She said not to worry though as I should be fine as I'm already scheduled in for a C-section. It's all getting so real now!

@Sheera1 haha love that you told them straight, I will be doing the same on Wednesday. I'm not leaving it to chance when it's mine and my baby's life at stake. I think they just brush it off like it's nothing and you should just do as you are told and sorry but that's not me either x

Just catching up on the thread! Glad some of you have managed to sort out the awful maternity care.

Going to make a new thread as we only have 9 left (after this one) and don't want to lose any of you! I haven't done a list this time but I'll copy and paste this one :)

@dee96 that is shocking and so pleased you have it sorted. I have felt the need to lead and drive my appointments here and bring things up and they go "oh yes oops meant to do that today". Care not been the best but not a patch on yours. I think you and I might give birth on the same day! I am in for my section on the 16th!

@LRHRN I am older so they like taking us at 39 weeks but c section has been on the cards since booking in but I did drive the date at my 32 week appointment and made them book me in. The registrar pissed me off as had been acting like it wasn't agreed yet which was nonsense and tried to talk me out of it. The consultant jaf approved it months before. I left with my date booked in. (I can be a bit of a nightmare) but just knew if I didn't it would get delayed and piss me off. X

@Dee96 I'm so happy for you and well done for phoning up because not everyone would feel comfortable doing so 😊
Omg at the end of the week you are being induced 😬 so exciting xxx

@Dee96 that is awful! And really crappy on top of the whole pandemic where we're already a little isolated. I'm so happy you managed to get hold of the midwife who has been doing a lot of the checks and that she has sorted everything out for you!!

Report
kkr168 · 09/11/2020 16:18

@december2020 as far as I'm aware if you are induced using a pessary then you have to stay in, if they offer the balloon method you can go home. My hospital are allowing partners from the get go, so if you are induced they can attend with you, worth checking with your midwife.

@jalu47 thanks so much! I finally put my big girl pants on today and started testing. So far so good, one result was a bit higher but I can assume it was the smoothie (it wasn't in the "high category" but not in the "target category" either). I have my next growth scan next week and then the day after they're going to talk to me about my birthing options. I totally relate as it looks like I'll be doing this alone as well! How are you feeling?

Oh god I'm so badllllyyy craving a good glass of red Californian Zinfandel and the most stinky gooey cheeses ever! And a small smoky peaty whisky nightcap.

Does anyone know if the hospital induces you, do you need to stay at the hospital alone? Or are they happy to send you home to labour in peace until your reach active labour? I'm having a feeling my hospital may give me a "cut of date" that if I don't go to labour before then they will induce me due to potential GD, but I don't really want to be alone at the hospital waiting.

@Asianchick6693 definitely write down anything you want to check with midwife on Thursday.
Has anyone else done the positive birth company’s hypnobirthing online pack? I’m working my way through it and it’s all so logical. Hoping to feel much more empowered about birth by the end of it.

I just called my maternity unit and gave them a piece of my mind. Luckily the person that picked up was a midwife that I've seen numerous times for bp checks and she was lovely. She got things sorted for me within a matter of minutes which is funny to me considering it's taken weeks to get there but at this point I'm not complaining. Turns out nothing had been documented on the system and no induction had been booked for me so up until now it's all been here say hence why no one had a clue when I spoke to them! But I'm happy, off the big baby trail and I now have an official, booked in induction date for the 15th! I can finally just sit back and relax and wait, it feels like such a big weight is off my shoulders. Some faith has been restored in them now. That complaint is defiently still being done. Honestly if I had a pound for everytime I've been apologised to during this pregnancy I would be rolling in it by now

@lrhrn exactly hun been stressful pregnancy as it is with basically doing it all alone coz of this pandemic we just need nice easy non stressful births x

Report
LRHRN · 09/11/2020 13:19

@Kj1010 im doing exactly the same as you the ECV freaks me out. Would much rather have a planned section that a distressed mum and babe that will probably end in an emergency csection xx

Kj1010 · 09/11/2020 13:12

@Dee96 omg I'm so shocked at how you been treated I agree with others get that complaint in now dont wait I also feel mine has been trivia compared to urs now I think I'll find out next week what the likelihood of my options are gonna be as my boy they said last week is high extended breech and that if he hasn't moved by next appointment they will prob want to do a ecv which I've read up and seen video and I'm not gonna have that done considering only 50% chance of success if not I hope they leave it till my next scan on 1st December and if still no change book me in for csection I dont want one rather a natural but if it means the safest way to get him here that's what it is

@Dee96 you should document everything and write to PALS. Shocking care.

@Dee96 that's horrendous, I thought my midwife was bad, yours seems totally clueless.
I'm so sorry for you that you're having such a hard time and it's dampening your experience of pregnancy.
I wouldn't wait to complain I'd do it now, phone your midwife unit and also the antenatal clinic and be firm and say you want something sorted now. It's really not on. Why do they think it's acceptable to leave it so long? I think I spoke to a lady either on this thread or another thread and her baby was transverse at 32weeks and she was seen by a consultant and booked for an ELCS straight away incase baby didn't turn.
I agree with PP all hospital trusts should be the same, it's terrible ☹️

Hey everyone, I had a growth scan today as I have GD but the thing is they said my baby has reduced fetal growth velocity? I'm assuming that she hasn't put on the amount of weight as expected for what she should be at 36 weeks. I can't stop worrying now but they've booked me in 3 weeks later to check again and said if no improvement or not enough gained then they will induce me because of GD..

I have my blood sugar levels under control, they've never been over but I thought usually GD causes babies to be large so why is mine smaller? Also why do I have to wait 3 weeks that's nearly full term any way so I'm just a little confused about their decision because what if in those three weeks my baby struggles? I don't know what to think. I'm seeing the MW on Thursday maybe she can put my mind at ease a bit.

@kkr168 aww bless you that's really nice. I know what you mean about feeling ready. I was 17 with my first too and didn't have a pot to pee in but now we're a lot more financially stable and don't have to worry about how we can afford to get nappies etc x

@Dee96 I feel bad for complaining about some of my experiences with midwifery after reading that! You poor thing, that is appalling! Definitely put in a complaint and make sure you are logging everything you are being told, its wholly unacceptable and at the very least you deserve an apology
