How could we have heard enough from you fettle! Would love to hear about Toby's christening... Was he a good boy. I must get on and do something about Theo's. Max was Christened and I'd like to get Theo done as well, but we've struggled with who to ask as Godparents. With Max we chose family which was easy but this time it would be friends and it seems a bit of a minefield. Hopefully Toby will give you a better night sleep tonight . Theo's performance wasn't repeated last night but he was only up the once at 3.30am. Tonight I'm hoping for even better .

About work, I really do need to go back for a while for us to maintain our lifestyle I guess as much as anything. I think we could just about manage with what DH is making but it would be a struggle. Our master plan though is to sell his flat later this year and then mine a couple of years later, so hopefully be mortgage free then. At that point I'll have more options, but of course by then my boys will either be in school or needing the social interaction of nursery. I would really like the time at home now. To be honest I also like the idea of doing something for me and I do enjoy my job (generally!), so I'm hoping for something miraculous like a job share so I can have my cake and eat it!!! (sorry obsessed with food as am trying to be good and had a doughnut at MrsMc's today ).

Firsty - Wierd that Ty did well on Saturday night too. I was with a friend today and her daughter slept through for the first time in 16 months on saturday - maybe something in the air . Fingers crossed our boys start behaving at night. What is it with these July babies .

Sorry to hear that your appointment was so rubbish City. Hopefully you'll find an alternative soon that makes you feel more relaxed. It can be pretty hit and miss with mid-wives, perhaps the next one you may see could be better? I guess Iampg's experience is a prime example. So glad you've found someone supportive Iampg!!! . Bring on that homebirth!

I see that Mrsmc has posted already and is catching up. I past on the good wishes from you all and I'm happy to say that she looks blooming and the nursery looks fab! .

Yes, Bodders etc, I did go for a walk... at night... in the dark.... and not only that, it was raining . I was with DH though so not alone. MIL was babysitting - yes I know we should have done something a bit more exciting . By the way Greedy I put my pedometer on and looked after a while and it said 3,000 ish steps... I then looked again nearer home, about 45 mins later and it still said 3,000 ish!!!!! Bloody thing had obviously been resting on my ample hips and not registered!!! I was most displeased .

Happy New Year everyone sorry I worried you all by my absence

Fettle ? thanks so much for your emails I am so glad you had a lovely holiday and hope that the memories have wiped out all the sad ones from the past. Is Toby back on track with his sleeping now you are home and do you have heating??

Bodkin ? you are a domestic goddess aren?t you??!! Posting on MN whilst baking cakes! PMSL at your second (and third) post about them sorry if you really were upset. I am a lousy baker and have been known to just break the cakes up and eat them like that! I?m glad it all turned out well in the end and I think it looks fab! course the girls would prefer the pink cake! Love all your new pics by the way, how cute you?re your kids!!!! Good to hear that you got some of the pressies you wanted for Christmas. Any luck with Isla and the bottle? Sorry to hear about the nappy rash with the real nappies my sis has told me that she?s noticed that before on babies with real nappies. I plan to start a trial at 2 weeks and see how we get on. Lovely what HV said to you, so true of course

Hey Greedy DD1?s Barbie cake sounded fab ? I would have loved one of those! How did the party go? sorry to hear that NYE didn?t turn out as planned and hope the kids are better now. Marcy?s sleep pattern sounds impressive! I used WW online for a while, I loved all the recipes but it was time consuming. I have to say this must be the only January since time began for me that I am not dieting ? I?ve now put on 2 stone so let?s hope I don?t have to battle with much more than the 2 stone overweight I already had before I started the pregnancy 5 pounds off already! Well done you! Are DD1?s nighttime nappies a thing of the past then?

Honeyapple LOL at your DS?s comments about your cakes, cheeky monkey. Sorry to hear about Dex?s antibiotics is the poor thing any better? His skin sounded so sore I know what you mean about Baby Gap we have an outlet centre near us and DH and I went to change some unsuitable Christmas pressies and ended up buying a cute brown bear suit for Beanie in there how was DS1?s b?day party? I m hoping that the hammock does influence a good sleep I can?t wait to have my Beanie in his/hers (well, Theo?s!! ) sorry my absence got you excited!

Hey Firsty thanks for your good vibes, I can?t believe Ty can type already

Iampg ? I wonder how you are I seemed to get niggly pains a few weeks ago and then nothing ? I truly can?t imagine what it will be like not to be pregnant anymore, I have enjoyed the experience so much and will almost be sad when it is over. I have been so well, so lucky I keep taking things out and putting other things into my hospital bags I went to visit a friend and her new baby in the post natal ward last week (was lovely to see them both ) and changed a lot of my ideas on what I needed after that! God it was SO hot!! That?s great that you have your homebirth sorted now! watch yourself, no more falls! Good to hear that you got a cheque for your car!!

Beansprout sounds like all is going well, your baby?s a biggie at 36+2 mine was apparently 6lb1oz but I have heard the growth scans can be 1lb out either way ? which makes a massive difference doesn?t it? so you are booked in for a section on 23/1 how exciting, I shall out it in my diary so I can send you good vibes ? I wonder if I will be a Mummy by then!

Chooster ? I know that you want to lose weight but I really think you are looking fab having read your posts I feel so bad for eating two cakes in front of you

Hello Seaside sounds like you had lots of fun doing the nursery and getting things ready, so did I! I will post a pic on my profile. I asked Chooster and Theo to test it out for me today Sorry about your cold; almost exactly the same happened to me, I was furious but luckily it?s gone now. I?ve read that the weight gain can slow down or even come off at this stage so don?t worry. Birth is still such an abstract to me ? like you, I feel calm one moment and then freak out about it the next, let?s hope it sneaks up on us on a calm day! I just can?t bring myself to do the perineum massage, it?s so hard to get into a position to reach and then as you say, it?s not exactly pleasant, and I think I?ll live in denial about that bit. I?ve been taking the Raspberry leaf tea since 36 weeks and it hasn?t brought Beanie on yet. I did read that it stops you being early or late ? we?ll see. Dare I ask about the cottage renovations? I shall try the ?I am huge? and see how that works for me

Hey Rainbowdays how are you keeping? Sorry to hear that you are on the move again, not long now though

Cityangel ? that?s fab about the scan I am so pleased for you hon!!! How exciting telling everyone

Phew!!! Now that I have caught up, I resolve not to get behind again! If I do go quiet and things kick off, I?ll let Chooster know so you can all be there with me

cityangel · 15/01/2008 00:17

thanks Fettle good memory!

Iampg used to Herts now East London... Whitechappel is our local hospital looking into St Thomas and the Barkantine now hey ho...

I spent half an hour on the phone today just trying to get open evening information out of the damn hospitals!

I told the damn midwife we hadn't decided and she still put one of our options on my file without agreeing it. Dh was literally standing over her correcting her every attempt to fill out the file/forms it was soooo painful. Still like you say still time to sort an alternative out...

cityangel · 15/01/2008 00:19

Good Luck MrsMC... very excited for you and dh, I hope his back is holding up and everything else

MrsMcJnr · 15/01/2008 15:42

Cityangel ? the form filling out certainly sounded painful. As you say, you have a choice no matter what your notes say. I read that pregnancy is a bit of a cash cow for GP practices and that is why they like to sign you up for shared care, it?s all political. Thanks for your good vibes for us we are getting really excited now. DH?s back is perfect these days; he?s back playing football like it never happened, thanks for asking

Thanks Firsty funnily enough, I feel the same as yesterday wow! A first tooth ? how exciting sorry to hear you had a bad night with Ty though. Chooster and I were talking about Ready yesterday, like you, I so hope something good happens for her and Rah soon.

seaside72 · 15/01/2008 23:22

Lovely to see you back MrsMcJnr! - Happy Due Date Day!!
I feel exactly the same as you and am loving being pg and am almost sad it will end if that makes sense - I will miss the bump- although obviously the prize at the end is amazing!! Still can't believe we will have a baby - it all seems so surreal
Cottage renovations still not finished - I have given up getting too stressed. It is looking good so far and we have had a good valuation today which has helped me to feel better. I am now resigned to the fact that it will get finished after birth and I will just have to strap on the Baby Bjorn to go on site to finish up etc!!

city - grrrr at midwives and form filling sorry the first scan appointment was not all it should have been. If you feel like you need the reassurance and can spare a bit of £ I cannot recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre highly enough. All they do is scan and it was def the best £150 we spent. Really thorough and well explained.

Iampg - Good news about the home birth - very exciting! But I am very of you still in pre pg jeans and trousers! But I am the same as you in the (.)(.) department - no change at all really still in my old bras.

Firsty - can't believe first tooth is through!! Hope Ty's cough is better tonight.

Fettle - still having hot water - yippee - liquid gold!

Bodders - grrr at faulty pedometer!! But well done about walk in the dark. I keep meaning to walk more but the weather has been so pants here. I nearly got blown away near Lands End the week before last. In fact I think only the extra weight of bump kept me grounded!!

honeyapple - ohh - I miss babygap - There is no gap within 100 miles of me - rubbish - but prob good for my bank account - why oh why cant they go online in the UK!!

Chooster - at fish and chips baby!! - Mind you I do live in fish and chip central!!

Greedy - well done on the dieting - how was your weight watchers dinner party?

rainbowdays - I am in the west but so far down to be near no one really - right at the west end of Cornwall near St. Ives. Everyone is far from me!!!

beansprout - hope all is going well for the CS a week to go!

All is well with me and Dave - movements are becoming more internal IYKWIM? and his head is def pushing down but other than that nothing really - like I said an occasional cramp but could be constipation!!
I have been waking up really sweaty in the middle of the night for the past few weeks - not sure if it is hormones or just the mattress protector I am now sleeping on - on my side of the bed!! Sleep in general is pants - so I just try and get it where I can. The nights are sooo long though. I am a little envious of those summer babies! I think my cold has finally gone - phew. I am still really restless and washing and cleaning everything in sight. Hoovered inside of car yesterday ready for hospital drive!!! I still cannot imagine it all kicking off - it seems so unknown - will I have a show first - will waters break or contractions start - arghhh!!

Yes - we only have one 'hospital' in Cornwall - there are numerous cottage hospitals - but only one with Maternity, ICU etc so no choice there! There are two birthing units - midwife led - but they are the same as being at home really and have a high incidence of transfer to the big hospital for first time mums. Maybe next time I will be braver and go for the home birth!

Right off to bed to try and get an hour or two in between loo breaks and sweats!!

Night night everyone

(seaside trundles off to be mumbling "I am huge, I am huge, I am huge and my cervix is softening" )

seaside72 · 16/01/2008 00:34

Inspired by MrsMc have posted a couple of pics on a limited viewing offer!! Took me ages and crashed my laptop twice uploading them
Anyway - love the pics of nursery Mrs - am still rationalising not buying ambynest - but really love them!

need to see if i have missed any births! i have been desperate to get on here for days and not ahd a chance.

ds is settling into big school well.....i think! yesterday was his first day stayiong for lunch and playing in the big playground with all the big kids. we were allowed to go and spy on them but not interefere. it started raining so they had to go inside for 'wet play' and bless him, he didnt have a clue what was going on and was left with one of his freinds wandering aimlessly round the playground when everyone else was inside. i was fuming, cos all i could do was watch and supposedly NOT interfere, but after a few mins i went marching round and yelled at one of the dinner ladies that it was there first day and they had no idea what to do and they shouldnt be left on their own! hope he gets on better today bless him! he will be home soon!!! hence my rushing and a million typos!!

ok.off to catch up properly................

chooster - good on you with your walking! i havent really been doing any extra exercise apart from a bit of marching whilst brushing my teeth!!! i seem to do between 13,000 to 18,000 steps a day depending on how busy i am. and i lost another 2 1/4 lb this week (i know!!! my scales are VERY precise!!) so thats over half a stone (just!) now!!! i am very pleased so far.....and we had 2 dinner parties at the weekend so i am extra chuffed cos i drank lots of wine at them!!! oh...and well done on theos sleeping!!

ok.only got to mrs' first post!!! hellloooooooo mrs!!! where have you been hey!!???? really excited to keep reading on...you could have had your baby by now!!!

MrsMcJnr · 16/01/2008 15:12

Hello ladies 40+1 today and I think I have had that number of text messages and phone calls asking where Beanie is ? how the hell do I know?! I decided to try out my breast pump again, all in the name of the eviction process as I?d read that nipple stimulation can help ? it felt very odd I have to say and I was horrified/amazed to find that one side did actually express something, colostrum I guess, I then felt like I?d done something wrong as was wasting the precious stuff ? I?ll make more won?t I?!

Got some bad news last night my Dad had some surgery recently to remove some lumps and the biopsy has come back confirming that one of them is a malignant basal cell carcinoma and as it is on his scalp, just in front of his ear, they have not managed to remove it all and he has to have further surgery to see if it has effected the nerve (presumably the optic nerve?!) I guess it shouldn?t have come as such a shock but it did and I was so upset I was shaking and got all sorts of cramps across my bump, I did think it might trigger labour but I?m still here pregnant this morning.

Thanks for the welcome back Seaside sounds like you have a good attitude to the cottage renovations, good for you (been watching a lot of Property Ladder recently actually!) lots of ladies on the now greatly reduced Jan AN thread are complaining of the night sweats, I?ve had them a few times, apparently its your body getting rid of excess fluid. Your thoughts about labour are like mine, it all seems so abstract and I am back to knicker checking again for the famous show!! Love you pics, you look like a Bond girl with a bump!! the room looks gorgeous; your baby is going to love looking out of that velux

Iampg ? I must have missed that bit about you being in pre preg clothes ? what?s all that about then?! I?m exploding out of a lot of my mat clothes and my bras are the same.

Greedy ? oh hon it must tug at the heart strings your DS being at big school! you are doing so well on the weight loss, well done. Sorry I was absent so long, I?ve had a lot of things going on and not all good so I was a bit preoccupied but it is nice to be back and makes me feel much better MN keeps crashing on me today too.

iampgatlast · 16/01/2008 17:52

hello ladies

well i got my car back today - good as new and it has even been valeted
Birthing pool arrived this morning so i am good to go - come on Oscar!!
been getting quite a few strong pains down below this afternoon but they are not "tightening" pains - how do you know if you are in labour?! not that i think i am of course before you all panic!!

chooster and fettle - you have got some tough decisions to make regarding work it must be so hard to know what to do for the best, i hope you work things out sooner and do whats best for you and your families.

mrsmcjnr - belated congrats on your due date yesterday! a milestone that seemed so far away months and months ago eh?! well you have done it girl!! your nursery looks great i bet your so glad you decided to do it in the end. my phone has been non stop too with txts asking ridiculous questions the most famous one being "any twinges yet?" but i have found out why - one of my friends has got my due date wrong so everyone thinks im due now!!
have just read on, so sorry to hear about your dad i hope his further surgeries go well. ((hugs))

firststar - congrats on tys first tooth!! wow he really is turning into a little man now isnt he?

seaside - so pleased that the valuation was a good one! atleast now you can focus on dave for a while and enjoy the last few weeks. its so exciting wondering who will pop first!! i loved the pics of your nursery, and your cute little bump! we havnt done our nursery we have just got the crib in our room for the time being although dp is starting work next week on our bedroom so oscar may have his nursery finished before he arrives but no immediate panic for the moment! The night sweats sound so familiar! but i feel reassured that its normal. i have started sleeping with the heating off much to dps annoyance

greedy - first full day of school - must have been very emotional for you!! and strange to not have had ds at home! i hope he had lots to tell you when he came home!

well ladies i think all of your put together has shrunk my jeans!!! i went to put on my skinny black jeans this morning and i could not do the top button up!! and i am NOT investing in maternity jeans now!!
I have looked at mrsmcjnrs and seasides bump pics and mine is still high up compared to theirs and tiny (not that im saying yours are big!!! ) but might explain why i keep getting the "yournot very big" comments.
il have to try and post some pics in the next cpl of days!

take care all xx

honeyapple · 16/01/2008 18:38

hi all

blimey- some good long posts there- i'm not going to compete- am typing one handed with Dex sitting on me...

mrs- congrats on your due date- i hope you dont have to wait too long to meet your LO

seaside- gorgeous pics. i tried to load some the other day but MN crashed- must try again.

iampg- i used a hairband tied through my button hole and over button to keep my jeans up. Like you i managed without much maternity wear.

re nappies- dex has so far escaped any nappy rash whilst wearing washables.

sorry he is squeaking now- back later
xx

rainbowdays · 16/01/2008 19:32

Hi all,

Mrs and Seaside, love the nursary and belly pics from you both.

Mrs - sorry could not get on yesterday to say happy due date to you. But now I want to say also, sorry to hear about your dad, I hope his facial nerve is not affected. hugs to you.

iampg - where did you get your birthpool from, I was thinking of getting one, but wondering where to get it from and which type will be best????

cityangel - gggrrrrr at form filling, is is such a nuisence to go through.

greedy - good to hear that your ds is settling well into big school. I have that to come in September....

Firststar - congrats on first tooth.

I am getting loads of comments from all and sundrie people at work about my bump, most seem to think I am due to give birth any day, I love to see the look on their faces when I tell them I am not due til April ! I spend most of the day trying not to be distracted by the slippery eel feelings going on most of the time while working, or the occasional foot in the ribs (never had that with my previous two pregnancies - it is not a nice sensation!)

Today got bits of good news to cheer me up, firstly the doc got my letter ready for me to say I am fit to fly next weekend, so I can pop home for a couple of days. Secondly I have managed to get confirmatio of a grant to pay for the independant midwife to do a homebirth all being well. And finally ..... oh poop, preggo brain has struck and I can't remember what I was about to type!!!!

fettleandbabyfettle · 16/01/2008 20:11

Hi Ladies - just a short one from me, as I'm shattered. My beautiful lovely little baby is up every 3 hours through the night and needs feeding pretty much every hour during the day. Growth spurt do you think? Or time to wean? He's not even 4 months yet, so I'm perservering for the time being, but am utterly and totally shattered. The only plus side is that my excess weight is dropping off me and I've lost half a stone since we got back from holiday, even with not eating particularly well. Only 2 lbs and I'm back to pre-Toby weight! Hoping he'll eat away at DD's extra stone and the 2 mc's stone that I've never lost! I can dream......

Anyway, Toby was an absolute angel at his Christening on Sunday. Hadn't slept all morning, but remained happy and relaxed throughout the service until after he'd been actually baptised and then he fell asleep quietly in DH's arms! Very relaxed!

Iampg - if you want to get Oscar Christened then do so. DH and I are both Christians and therefore it was never an issue for us, but I do believe that if you have any feelings in that area, it's best to get them baptised and introduce them to the whole area, so that they can make their own minds up once they're older. We could get into a very deep discussion about it all, but I doubt this is the place for it! Great news about the delivery of the birthing pool - all getting so close now. From what i've heard though, they take so long to fill, make sure that you don't leave it too late into your labour before getting DP started on filling it!!! Great news on the car!

Rainbowy - great news you can fly home - eel-like movements, you're getting me clucky again - I loved that feeling!!!

Big waves to Honey - glad Dex has escaped nappy rash, he's suffered enough with other things so far!

Greedy - poor DS! Makes me doubly glad we've done what we've done with DD, although it's costing us to send her to this school, as although she's in Kindergarten, when she goes to big school in September, she just moves to the room next door and it won't be so big and scary for her or me!! Keep marching!!

MrsMc - so sorry to hear about your father. Horrible news at the best of times, but particularly not what you need at the moment. You've got too much other stresses in your life at the moment, as well as the imminent arrival of your beautiful baby - gorgeous nursery by the way!

As for you Seaside - you're looking gorgeous! And those views!!! I'm so !

Ty - congratulations on your first tooth!! Talking of teeth - honey you can probably comment on this, but is the going rate for the tooth fairy really £2.00 now-a-days! Seems steep inflation from the 10p I used to get!!

Big waves to City and beansprout - hope you are both keeping calm, well and happy at either ends of the pregnancy train!!

Chooster - made a big decision today. I think I'm going to go back to work, but I am definitely going to ask for part-time, at least 4 days a week, hopefully with shorter hours on those 4 days. DD's old nursery has space for Toby, so just need to see what options are open for DD. Seeing a childminder on Friday morning, to see what I think about that kind of option. Decided that a nanny with only 2 children, is just not cost-effective. Have to wait until I@ve had my 3rd!!

Right - bed calls!!

sleep well all - night sweats, cramps, trips to the loo and crying babies not-withstanding!

Fettle - definitely growth spurt for Toby, don't think about weaning yet, it is much eastier just to feed more milk..... it will settle in a few days, you know it will. Great to hear that the christening went well. I have a christening dilema with this one now, ds was "dedicated" (I was bought up baptist), dd was christened in Anglican Church (one of the churches we now attend), but dh is RC and really wants this new one baptised in Catholic church. I find this difficult,,,,,, oh the joys of being in an interchurch marriage!

Thinking of MrsMc today, I just have feelings that today....... oh well will have to wait to hear.

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/01/2008 12:28

mrs - i leaked colostrum from about 20 wks so dont worry! sorry about your dad, have they mentioned the optic nerve? sounds more like it would be the vestibulocochlear nerve would be affected to me which is the one to do with balance and hearing.

rainbowdays - i thought your ds would already be at school.i thought ours wre the same age. when was your ds 4? is he an old one in the year rather than my little july boy! i have never had the feet in the ribs either and i wondered what it felt like!!! dont think i will get pg again just to find out though!

fettle - 2lb????? and your are back to pre pg weight!!! thats NOT FAIR!!!!!!!! i still have 13lb to go!!!! and i was about a stone overweight when i got pg anyway!!! and .................no.....that wasnt a short post!!! glad toby was a good boy at his christening. marcy is still an angel and smiles all the time, but she doesnt actually giggle yet. i know my other 2 were giggling by this point!!! sounds like a growth spurt to me.............i am trying to put off weaning too.............i was so excited to start weaning with ellis, but this time it just seems a hassle and more work, milk is much easier!!

i went to try and spy on ds in the playground earlier!!! i think dd1 thought we were mad!!! couldnt see him though and one of the dinner ladies was giving me starnge looks.....she has probably noted my number plate and reported me as a weirdo or something. guess i will just have to trust he will be ok. he has ANOTHER UTI, and me, being a stupid pathetic emotional mother, cried when i told his teacher this morning!!! i just didnt want him getting told off for going to the toilet every 10 mins. he never complains it hurts or anything or i would have kept him off, im not that wicked really!

marcy has been sitting in her bouncy chair grimning at me for about an hour now......when she has good days she really is the easiest baby in the world...............i just wish all 3 of them would have their good days at the same time!!! ds has started going completely crazy as soon as he gets in from school!!! hope that one doesnt last!!!

ok off to look mat everyones pictures but MN is super slow again today

fettleandbabyfettle · 17/01/2008 13:01

greedy - DD came home from "school" completely mad most of last term - think it the excitement of new things! Slightly calmer this term so far!!

i can't believe weight either - never lost any weight feeding DD! And consequently still haven't lost it! Haven't lost anything this week yet though! marcy does sound adorable - when toby not tired and fed enough he's very smiley, but generally has the old man persona of ringing his hands watching everything intensely!! But he does giggle - anythinmg involving strange noises or moving him, such as row row your boat sets him off (but then kissing his hands also was hysterical to him a few days ago strange creatures these babies!!!) Hark at you with the long unpronounceabkle words!!!!

rainbow - thanks for the support - I will keep going at the milk. Like greedy really don't want to yet as so much easier just
breast-feeding. Tricky religious dilemma!!

Got our first corker of a cold coming - loads of sneezing, running nose and eyes - poor little boy, but done very well to get to 4 months with only minor sniffles so far!

come on ladies - this thread needs a new baby!!!

Hello ladies We saw the consultant today and she seemed pretty relaxed which was great. She basically said that my risks in being overdue are in her opinion the same as anyone else?s and therefore she is in no great hurry to induce. I personally have always felt that my EDD was actually 17th or 18th rather than the 15th because of when I ovulate anyway. So, we have an appointment to see her again next Thursday if the baby hasn?t arrived by then. A CTG told us all was fine today so that was a relief. She did check me too and things seem to be softening and dilating so that was positive her parting shot was that she was on call Friday and Sunday if I could manage one of those dates

Iampg ? sometimes I mistake tightenings for the baby moving and vice versa, I didn?t realise that until today when I was on the monitor and the feelings came as a peak occurred on my contraction chart! That?s great about the car and the pool ? are you going to start filling it, they can take hours and hours I believe! My bump really dropped when the head engaged about 4 weeks ago, so many people have noticed how much lower it is. Thanks for your kind words about my Dad, my Mum called earlier to see if I would be happy for them to come over and stay on 7 Feb for 4 days so that both she and my Dad can meet the baby and my Dad can get a second opinion (always nice to hear a medical prognosis in your own language anyway). I don?t know whether my Dad will agree to come over or not but I am quite excited at the thought

Honeyapple ? that?s great that Dex is on the washables and has no nappy rash like to hear that kind of thing.

Thanks Rainbowdays those pieces of news are both great, I bet you can?t wait to go home and the birth will be fab with an independent midwife LOL you thinking today?s the day ? maybe! I am thinking Sat now slightly worried though as we are meant to be going out for dinner at the local hotel with PIL (FIL?s b?day on Sunday) if I am in labour, I wouldn?t want them to know, I already feel like I am being ?observed? all the time by them ? will a migraine wash with them do you think?!

Fettle (must respond to your lovely email ) LOL at Toby eating his way through your extra pounds ? I am hoping for a pound guzzler too so glad he was good at the Christening, I?ve seen a lot of babies who haven?t been and the parents look so embarrassed!

Greedy thanks for your kind words about my Dad, no one?s mentioned the nerve affected so that?s interesting what you say. Do you know what cancer does to nerves? Poor DS with his infection

I?ve found a job for DH to do in the hospital if he gets bored of me being in labour ? he could go round pumping up all their birth balls! I sat on one today in the AN ward and nearly touched the floor it was so soft either that or I am the heaviest woman in the County!

hello ladies

ok naive first time mum post.....i went to see my friend today who has a 6 week old baby boy. when i got there he was sleeping in his cot upstairs so went up to see him and she bought him down for a feed, after my longed for cuddle we got chatting and i said that my plan was to use the moses basket until oscar goes into his own room/cot at about 3 months (as we only have 1 bedroom done and moses basket is much smaller than a cot hence why i bought him that to sleep in and i thought id buy a cot when he has his own room as there would be more space) well after i said that she pissed herself laughing, and said that her baby had outgrown the moses basket already! she put him in there to show me - and he had! - am icompletely thick to have assumed oscar would have been ok in there for atleast a couple of months?! so now i have to figure out how to fit a cot in my bedroom/nursery

honey - thanks for the hairband tip - might give it a go for the last few weeks

rainbowdays - thats brilliant you can fly home for a few days and see your family i get the kicking in the ribs EVERY day and for most of the day too its like he is playing the xylophone on my insides!! an independent midwife sounds fab - is there any reason why you didnt choose a community mw (sorry if you have already said) i looked into an independant one when my homebirth looked a bit shakey but the costs were waaaayyy to big for our bank balance! i went to www.birthpoolinabox.co.uk to buy the pool, they seemed to be the most popular choice of people on mn. it was £140 including delivery and all the extras which i thought was a bargain considering you are looking at £100 to hire one and you only have it for a limited time. i placed the order late monday night and it arrived first thing weds morning.

fettle - congrats on the weight loss! only 2 pounds to go you lucky thing!! thanks for the advice on the christening i havnt bought it up with dp for a long time as he has very strong feelings about it. i have been christened and feel oscar should be to but we shall see...
dp wants to have a practice run with the pool but if he does it means we will have tor eplace the liner, but from what ive read they take 4x the amount a bath holds. We are having it next to the kitchen sink pretty much and it can be filled with a hose attatchment. dp will just have to be onhand with the buckets to maintain the temp

mrs - great the appointment with the consultant went well - it really is countdown time! do you feel you are ready? i woke up this morning with a very weird nervous/anxious/excited feeling which i havnt had before i am so excited about oscars arrival but i am also nervous about being a good mum, knowing what he needs and caring for him etc...silly really! then when i had my bath i got out and just sat on the bed for an hour looking at all his little baby grows and vests and shoes and had a little cry!! bloody hormones!! how lovely that your mum and dad are thinking of coming to see you and your new arrival. have you decided on any names yet or are you keeping it hush until the day arrives?

right im off to get ready, i have another meeting tonight with the girls from the homebirth group which im looking forward too!

byee all xx

iampg - I have no choice of community midwife where I live, it is either the one independant midwife in the area or hospital birth. Since I desperately want to try again for a homebirth this time, I am having to pay for the independant midwife. Fortunately I can get a grant, and with a bit of fiddling I should be able to get all her costs covered. People have recommended to me a different pool from the pool in a box, but it seems so much easier to get hold of that one. I am also looking at the possibility of a second-hand one to buy, as financially things are very very tight here. As for moses basket - I never bothered as they do grow out of them so quickly. But if you have the pram part of a travel system, that worked well for me, as they are slightly bigger.

Just very quickly - Iampg - i've only just moved Toby from his moses basket to a cot 10 days ago at almost 4 months old. now considering he is a very long baby for his age, I think you'll be fine - admittedly he was quite cosy in there as he was on the large size, but i think it helped him sleep well, as since moving him out, his sleeping has got worse!!

You do want you want, but definitely right to have baby in with you for first few months at least - you'll want to and it's warmer and easier feeding in bed at night than in the cold nursery!!

Take care - getting so excited for you, Iampg, Mrs and Seaside! I remember crying over tiny babygros - before they were born and when they'd grown out of them and I was putting them away again!!!
