Helloo ? OMG it has been so long since I posted properly ? I am so sorry ? I have been rubbish. The last 2 weeks have flown by and I have gone into full on nesting mode ? I have washed and ironed (yes ironed ? I NEVER iron ? what has come over me!! Please tell me it is just the hormones and I am not turning into my mother ) All baby clothes are done and all blankets, bedding even muslins . We have finished the nursery and I am so happy and proud of it ? will try and post some pics soon. I have gone internet shopping crazy ? it seems like a box arrives everyday but it has brilliant not going to the shops especially over Xmas.

Just finishing up packing hospital bags ? have finished the most important one ? food and drinks!!

All is well with Dave ? he is squirming like crazy and when the mw felt my bump this week she said it was ?all baby? ? as I type he seems to be making full knee swipes across the left of my bump ? huge protrusions ? it is soo weird! He is had down and engaged (not sure how much??) He has had loads of hiccups this week! I am feeling fine except for the fact that we had some guests last weekend and they left me with stinking cold ? grr ? I have been fit and healthy for 8.5mohths and now I get a stinker of a head cold ? streaming nose, sore throat burning eyes ? so annoyed. I so hope it goes quickly as facing labour like this is not good.

I haven?t really had any cramps yet ? except Xmas day when I felt really rough ? loads of IBS style cramps just below rib cage? I think it was a mix of IBS and heartburn ? we had a curry on Xmas eve ? prob not a good idea. I have had a few stingy sensation low in groin?? And back and sacrum are cracking away!
I seem to have stopped putting on weight? Have been the same weight now for about a month ? although it seems in total I have put on just under 15kgs which according to babycentre or some website is right for my height etc? Greedy ? still waiting for the boobs to come ? I am still wearing my same old bras

I am still a bit in shock about how close it all is now ? now I am counting in days not months or even weeks [quake] I go from feeling calm and ready to feeling totally unprepared and scared?!! I have been trying to read up and listen to my birthing cd?s etc and have even been trying perenium massage ? unsuccessfully ? it is bloody painful ?how am I going to get a baby out of there is it hurts to stretch it 3cms and that kills! I am desperately visualising and chanting to myself - and Dave ? 7lbs - skinny - small head? If I say it enough I am hoping to make it reality!!

I have bought some Rasp Leaf tea and tablets but am kind of scared to take them ? I want him to come but not until due date!! I think I should start though right ? will be 38 weeks next week?

My DH keeps telling me how excited he is to which I reply that I would be too if I were him! He is being a real star in general though and helping me all the time ? answering my constant shouts and requests to move things/ lift things /fetch things!

Don?t even ask about our cottage renovations ? builders went off for Xmas ? 2 weeks and it is s far from finished ? now they promise me they will finish Jan 14 ? which will not happen and even if it does the timing is awful ? meeting estate agents/solicitors etc at 39 weeks pg ? great ? not. So mad.- added to housing market gloom ? if I think about it too much I get freaked out so am burying head in sand right now!

Firsty ? Hope you have had a lovely 2 weeks with Ty. Xmas can be so stressful ? we had it totally alone this year for the first time ever and it was fantastic ? mellow, calm, just another day ? no hype etc.

Honey ?So sorry about poor little Dex?s excema ? it is such a nightmare and I am sure being a winter baby does not help with all the central heating etc. Hope it resolves itself soon. So glad all is well with SIL

Fettle ? Hope you had a fab time on hols ? can?t wait to hear all about it BTW feeling your pain in the boiler department. I am so fed up of ours I could scream ? it is only 2 years old and we cant get through a month without something going wrong ? no hot water, no heating, tepid water, no pressure etc etc. I took out British Gas care in April ? which cost me £26 a month and they have come out 9 times since then so has been worth it but its is just insane for a 2 year old boiler. Totally unreliable. Everytime they come to fix something ? something else goes wrong. I just want someone to fix it once and for all or at least be honest and tell me we have a dud so I can save the 26 quid a month and stump up for a new one (after threatening to sue the boiler maker!!) Arghhhh!

Iampg ? Ohh niggly pains and cramps ? sounds promsising. I feel the opposite ? like my pg has gone into fast forward now! I want the time to slow down! Hope you get I sorted for the homebirth. How are your renovations coming along?

MrsMc ? How is mat leave treating you! As I word from home it feels no dif for me ? in fact I have been busier than ever in the house ? moving room around , builders, decorating, organising etc. Have to say I am stil excited about my Maternity allowance ? I have had 2 paymets now ? it?s brilliant!! Such a treat! Seems too good to be true! about DH and Xmas/birthday neglect ? hope he makes up for it with a pressie when you give birth Hope your birthday was good despite that though. BTW ? you do look fabulous in that pic ? I am so mad as I got all dressed up for the wedding we went to before Xmas and DH did not take one bleeding photo of me ? gutted ? I had make up on and everything!! Empathise with your money stress ? but it will be OK hon ? we have to concentrate on the most important job ? being a womb/mummy ? mortgages will work out eventually.

Cityangel ? hope yu are doing OK hon ? not long now until the scan ? keep us posted

Chooster ? What a fabulous Xmas present from DH ? I love my DH dearly but know he will never be that innovative with presents ? very impressive

Rainbowdays ? Another boy ? 08 is the year of the boy I think! MrsMc needs to have a pink one to make a dent on balancing out the 3 08 TTC grads boys we now have on the way already!

Greedy ?Marcy?s sleeping is fab ? can I have one like that please!! So of your ring!!! I so want an eternity ring ? Oh and a Georg Jensen fusion ring too [dreaming] Hope DD?s party goes well tomorrow ? bless her being so excited!

Bodkin ? LOL at your cake nightmare (sorry!) but the end result looked fab so all worked out in the end ? even if it did give you a nervous breakdown! Ohh ? Orla Keily wellies ? got a link or picture?! they sound fab! I got a new Orla K purse for my birthday (replacing my last Orla K one which I loved too!) I have to confess to have a mega spree online in the Cath Kidston sale

beansprout ? lovely to ?see? you again hon ? so glad all is going well Do you know if you are having a boy or girl?

January is going to be a bumper month hey!

Waves to anyone else out there ? Buggymad, KitKat, Rah & Ready?
Apologies to those still reading for waffling /spelling /nonsense /mistakes and repitition!

I hope that I have put the list up right for impending births, I got it from a very old list, but hopefully is correct.

Hi all just recovering from being at wedding yesterday, where my dd was a flowergirl, she did brilliantly.

I have a twelve hour journey by car to start later today. I will be stopping overnight half way to make it a bit easier. But I am back to work on monday. I feel sad having to leave dh and the children yet again. But just keep reminding myself that this is not forever, soon I will be back home with them.

Chooster · 05/01/2008 22:12
  • Too tired to post properly but LOVING the cake Bodders!! You do look very 'domstic goddess' in the photo. Bloody good job it didn't slide off when that photo was taken - it looks a little at risk at the angle you've got it. Three cheers for helpful DP'S!!!!
fettleandbabyfettle · 06/01/2008 12:00

Hi all - can't wait to catch up properly - intriguid by the cake comments!!!

Just wanted to let you know we all home safely - no broken bones. DD has flu or tonsilitis or both but is pretty poorly. Never seen her so listless, but she being an angel with it.

Anyway, have to go now - hopefully I'll get back later today to catch up properly!

love to you all

Welcome back fettle, but sorry to hear uthat DD is poorly - poor thing. Was she ill when you were away too? Hope the snow was good for you!!!

All is well in the chooster household and we've had some fun over the last few days. DH and I took both kids swimming which we haven't done since Centre Parcs in October . But I wanted DS1 to get back in before his first swim lesson on Friday. The yesterday DS1 had a 4th b'day party at a Softplay centre to go to. It was great until he got kicked (accidently) on the slide and then it all went a bit downhill (so to speak!). He didn't want to go back on the softplay and I think he was a little intimidated by the amount of kids there. He can be such a sensitive wee boy sometimes. I had to stay with him as well as he didn't want me out of his sight so when I had to feed Theo the tears started... Poor wee guy, he was just in a real pickle . Anyway we are back to the same softplay next month for another party so hopefully this will go better.

Apart from that we are all doing well. Theo is happily munching his way through 3 square meals a day (inc pudding) and STILL wakes at night apparently hungry . I'm sure its just habit but if I do feed him he demolishes a whole boob...

Hope everyone is doing OK... Am off out for some exercise now. At last.... My new 'healthy' regime was meant to have started a few days ago.

honeyapple · 06/01/2008 19:44

Bodders- cake looks gorg ... reminds me of a barbie cake I made DD for her 3rd birthday- you know the sort- with a doll stuck in the middle... anyway, I had bought a special bell shaped cake tin to make the skirt and the bleeding thing would not cook... was in the oven for about 6 hrs! Anyway, I rescued the disaster my adorning the outside of it with a million sweets and a tonne of pink icing- kids just ate the sweets off the barbie's dress, the cake was as heavy as a brick. DD loved it though.
Keep perserving with the bottle, and dont worry about the food thing or Isla sitting up... all things happen in their own time. How old is your DD2 now?
I asked for some posh wellies for xmas- but didnt get any ... DP and I decided not to do pressies for each other this yr as a bit broke.

Seaside- you sound soo exited! Dont worry about your pernineum, you won't notice it stretching cos the contractions will be hurting too much ... sorry! I'm guessing you arent really planning on naming your little man Dave (although me and Bodders love it)... have you settled on something yet?

Rainbowdays- thanks for the update. Sorry to hear you are out on the road again.

Chooster- hope the next softplay party is more successful. Sounds like Theo is enjoying his nighttime snacking... have you tried not to give in to feeding him? I doubt he really needs the milk in the night if he is eating so well in the day - but I dont blame him for waking up for a yummy bit of boobie!!

Fettle- hope DD feels better soon.

Greedy- do you reckon your lot had that winter vomiting thingy- nori virus or something?? Seems to be a bit of an epidemic at the moment. [honeyapple quickly- touch wood]

Everyone else- lots of love- better get DD to bed!

Bodkin · 07/01/2008 10:53

Honeyapple - you are so right about things happening in their own time... the day after i posted that, she took 4 oz from the bottle at 6pm, drank both boobs at 7pm and slept until 4.30am - best shes done for ages! shes also started munching on toast crusts, and right now a rice cake, and the sitting up is coming on too. I had forgotten that babies somtimes do things in threes and you can't believe they can change so much in one day, after months of inertia! now she's howling for a nap so will be bac klaterr

Bodkin · 07/01/2008 11:16

Can't believe it, the monitor has gone quiet already (now 10.59) She really wanted that nap!

Love the story of your barbie cake! Sounds very similar to mine - the kids ate the icing and the smarties, and ignored my lovingly hand-crafted sponges [indignant] I was thinking of you last night actually Honeyapple, and the fact that you've had a pretty tough time of it so far with Dex. Hope you're ok and that your little fella is recovering from all his ups and downs. How's his sleeping these days? Its so frustrating isn't it - everyone tells you breast is best, so there we are wapping the knockers out left right and centre, and yet poor Dex has had a couple of nasty infections, Theo;s had ear infections, Isla's had, well, she's just been a bit screamy - while Marcy is as fit as a fiddle and sleeping through the night. We're not really a great advertisement for Breastfeeding are we

Chooster - have you tried sending DH in to settle Theo when he wakes in the night? I sent DP in the other night when she woke just as we were dropping off to sleep at about 11.30pm. She'd slept until 3am the night before, so I said, she's not hungry, you can go and pat her bum and shush her a bit and she'll go off. And she did quite happily after 5 mins, and then slept until 4am!
You're right about the angle of that cake - i think I'd ahve spontaneously combusted there and then if it had slid off!

Fettle - glad to hear you are all intact! Looking forward to hearing your news. Shame about your poor DD though - hope she feels better soon. My DD1 was up for an hour in the night with dreadful earache, and we ended up sleeping downstairs on the sofa together last night, so I could prop her up on me as it hurt her less when she sat up. Not the best night's kip I;ve ever had!

Seaside - you sound very organised / nervous! It'll all be fine I'm sure!
The wellies were from good old Millets! I'll find a link for you in a min, but don't want to risk losing all my ramblings! I fancy doing some internet bargain hunting too, but coffers are a bit tight at the mo. Have got a couple of small jobs lined up though, so that's good

Hi Rainbowdays!

Better go and catch up on some sleep while Isla's kipping.

Bodkin · 07/01/2008 11:22

modculture.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/10/01/orla_wellies.jpg

Seaside, they're the ones on the left, but I think they are sold out now.

Just seen these ones as well while I was looking for the link to mine - ooh, they're very nice! www.instyle.com/instyle/products/productfinder/browse/0,,BrandsTax:OrlaKiely_1_8__8_1,00.html

honeyapple · 07/01/2008 13:54

Bodders- I'm certainly glad that Dex is my third baby! Think I'd have had a nervous breakdown if he had been my first... Am surprisingly cheery despite all the ups and downs, he sleeps well so not too much bother there- last night he went to bed about 11pm and woke up at 6.30am- so I definitely cant complain! Dunno if it is the wonder of his hammock?? He is a good chap and has been keeping jolly despite all his problems. Fingers crossed he is healthy from now on- agree about the BF! Bit of a joke really- I suppose I wonder what he would be like if i didnt BF. Glad to hear Isla has been making some ground on the bottles and food and sleep- hurrah! Hope your other DD ear gets better . Did you ever go back to reusable nappies? I am doing a mixture of washable and disposable- disposables at the mo cos the antibiotics have given Dex a dippy tummy- actually I can smell him now! Back later xx

Bodkin · 07/01/2008 15:02

I did go back to washables after a few days break, as she seemed to be just as grumpy in disposables after the initial day when she was great. However, I'm currently back in disposables again, for a while, to see if I can clear this bloody nappy rash that is hanging around. Have tried every cream under the sun, loads of nappy off time etc, but no joy, so I am using Pampers with a very heavy heart They smell like a chemistry lab on her poor little bum (although the rash is finally easing up, so spose I can't complain) As soon as the rash has completely gone though, it's back to cloth, to see if the rash returns or if I have successfully banished it!

I've had 3 explosive up-the-back poo incidents since she's been in the Pampers (never had any in cloth or Nature Baby) so I don't know why everyone rates them, apart from the fact they are so teeny weeny on the bum you could put your baby in skinny jeans and a diamante boob-tube

rainbowdays · 07/01/2008 15:19

Oh dear so many ear infections, vomiting bugs and everything. My ds currently has glue ear again - arggg.

Just to tip the balance on the breastfeeding thing back again, I bf my ds, but with a few supplimentary bottles until he was 7 months old and he has had numerous infections, while dd was breastfed for a year and is as fit as a fiddle!!!! personally I think it was more to do with the time of year they were born, but then that theory goes out the window when you look at all your little ones, just the luck of the draw I guess !!!!

Bodders - hope your dd's ear gets better really soon. Cake looks great, I should post my latest cake picture too, I just did my first wedding cake!!!!!

Bodders - I had really bad nappy rash problems with my ds, so came out of reuseables for it. It was only much much much later that I discovered it was a food intolerance to dairy (and MSG -long story). Just wondering if this could be the problem with your dd?????

Honeyapple - please tell me that having three little ones is easy, ?cause right now I am thinking I must have been mad to go for a third!

Seaside - love to hear that you are nesting, not long for you now!

Fettle - welcome home!

Ready passes on her ?hello? to everyone.

Hi to everyone else

honeyapple · 07/01/2008 16:32

Bodders- agree I havent had much poo escaping with reusables- but Dex is pooing every five minutes at the moment and it is really runny and just the sort of poo to give a LO a sore bot. I find I cant sniff a poo out so easily once it is trapped under a wrap and a bungy nappy! I think if the baby has nappy rash then sitting in a wet reusable cant be much fun . But I LOVE not having a bin smelling of baby poo- apart from today of course .

Rainbowdays- good to hear from you... 3 kids is fine- no problem! (HA!!) Dont forget mine are older than yours too (yikes)- Greedy has similar age gaps to yours? Actually my DS1 is a star- he walks Dex about when he is grizzly- has baths with him (although not recently what with the scabs!) and is generally a real helpful chap- I even found him attempting to change Dex's pooey pants (not very successfully though- couldnt get his legs out of the babygro he had on- one of those weird ones with a zip that goes down one leg...)

Ready- hello hon if you are lurking- let 2008 be YOUR year .

greedygreedyguzzler · 07/01/2008 20:33

chooster - glad you are dieting too! i can share my feelings with you!! managed to resist lots of birthday cake and party food yesterday and the day before and those cocktail sausages were REALLY hard to resist!! i would love to lose 2 1/2 stone so your measly 1 1/2 should be EASY!!! i think 2 stone is probably more realistic but i am aiming high!! havent been so great today on my diet though as DH is away with work and i have no one to keep me on the straight and narrow now the kids are in bed! talking of weighing more than dh.....................we had all my family round yesterday, and dd1 got a pogo stick for one of her bday pressies. we were all DESPERATE to have a go but it said maximum weight allowed was 12 stone, so i had to admit to everyone that i weighed more than 12 stone and couldn't go on! mind you..........so was everyone else!

i spoke too soon with marcy by the way!! she woke up at 5am this morning. i know 7pm till 5am is pretty good going but i am NOT good at that time in the morning! think i will wake her at 10pm tonight and try and force some milk down and then see what she does tomorrow!

honey - sales are just too tempting aren't they? i have been browsing the boden sale on and off on the internet all day! i have got LOADS of stuff in my 'basket' just not sure if i am actually going to buy it or not yet!!! i am skint too!!!

just read your 'cake post' bodders !!!!! PMSL!!! am i allowed to this time? you aren't distraught anymore are you? glad everyone loved it in the end and i am going to have a look at it on your profile in a min! i have been reminiscing a lot the past few days.....birthdays always do that to me!.............and i can't believe my little dd1 is 3 already or that marcy is 12 weeks.........or that my ds is starting at big school tomorrow in reception. ...............i am going to miss him SO much. it makes me cry whenever i think about it!!! i hate them all growing up.....its so sad! actually, in some ways i hate it and in other ways i love it. no pleasing me actually! and marcy is already huge by the way! and the scarey thing is she is bigger then dd1...............and she is now wearing age 5-6 clothes.......so what size will marcy be wearing when she is 3!!

shit shit shit!!! ds has just woken up saying his tummy is hurting which normally means he is going to be sick. i really hope this stupid bug hasn't come back cos i had the runs earlier too. CRAP! i am going to worry all night now and dh is away in geneva. typical.

shit no time to read the other posts, gone into panic mode that i will have to deal with 3 puking kids on my own tonight, but hello seaside and fettle. nice to see you both back.

fettleandbabyfettle · 07/01/2008 20:36

Hello all ? warning this really is going to be a mammoth post ? 2 weeks away is a long time if you keep chatting!!

Finally trying to catch up. Feeling a bit of domestic failure with all this talk of making cakes! It is Toby?s Christening on Sunday and we have 25 people for lunch afterwards ? planning on a cake (MIL is making the actual Christening cake), but I?m not sure I?ll bother ? sounds dangerous!!!

DD is much better today and needing constant entertaining ? ?fraid to say I?m looking forward to kindergarten starting again tomorrow and it has only been 1 day I?ve had to cope with them both ? spoilt while we were away. Toby never had to wait for attention, DD was constantly amused and I got to finish hot cups of tea (made by someone else!!). Even managed a few days skiing - managed to fit around Toby feeds and long sleeps. Out of 15 days, only 2 days did we not have glorious sunshine! (It?s raining there now though, Mum says, so we were really lucky! ? planning to go again over Easter, as DD has taken to skiing like a duck to water (or a penguin to snow). The smile on her face when we picked her up from her lessons was amazing. Shattered her though ? she slept loads. On days she wasn?t skiing, we went swimming together and had really good mother/daughter time, while my mum looked after Toby. So all in all a great holiday, but as I?ve said both children are playing up today, due to the lack of attention I think! Christmas was good and the children were spoilt as always (thankfully mostly with clothes, which are useful. Have to say with our boiler bill coming shortly (so lovely to have warm house again though!), DH and I decided against big presents this year ? spend it on things that we need in the house over the coming months.

Greedy ? 6ft 4 aunt ? that?s tall! I thought my brothers at 6ft 6 were tall, but for a girl that?s enormous ? so hope your DD doesn?t go over 6 ft ? not fun finding clothes! Presents in triplicate, including ring boxes!! Fantastic news you got your ring though ? good all DH!!! Playhouse sounds magical ? can?t wait until we have our garden done next month and actually have some space outside suitable for playing children! Council people came round this afternoon to take photos and have a look ? so hope we get the planning permission through ? we are improving it and making it safer, so can?t see why not! I?m planning on joining weight watchers again later this month as I too am fed up of being fat ? although I lost a lb over Christmas ? joy of breast-feeding a boy, coupled with some exercise I assume!!! How did DD?s birthday party go? Is marcy still sleeping well after dropping the 10pm feed? That?s one huge bladder your DD1 has (almost as big as your DD2?s stomach by the sounds of it!!). Have to admit that my DD is still never dry through the night ? think I need to speak to the HV about it, as she seems to have a pathological hatred of going for a wee during the day except under duress and must save up her wee?s for nighttime ? so she?s still in sleep shorts, I hate to admit. Going to work on in the next few months though!

Rainbow ? congrats on the boy!! So pleased all going so smoothly for you ? you deserve it having to be away from home so much at the moment.

Cityangel ? I hope you managed to enjoy Christmas? Not long until the 11th now!

Firsty ? glad you getting somewhere with Ty?s feeding ? sounds like he?s doing great at it now. Suppose I ought to start thinking about it all with Toby now, but just don?t want to rush him. I waited until 20 weeks with DD and I?m determined to make it further this time around. Nativity tableau was in our local town ? very very cold, but fun!!! Sorry you didn?t have a great Christmas. I agree though, I love the hype and build up and then it is over and January is such a grey month ? but it?s my birthday at the end!

Bodders ? you?re pictures are adorable ? you really do have 2 beautiful girls and that cake looks delicious!!! When you put it like that we do sound like breast-feeding is not best, but it is so much easier. I don?t want to say anything to jinx my happy little life, but so far Toby has been fairly well ? bit coldy while we were away, but not too bad (still able to feed quite well). Although he was waking up a bit more often while we were away, he?s settling much easier in the evenings than before. So hoping his sleeping through will come back with time (it is so dehydrating up in the mountains that I?m hoping he was just waking for a quick drink, as he?d only have a few sucks than settle awake happily back in his cot. But now I?ve said all this, it will all go horribly wrong (probably when I finally give in and put him in his cot in his nursery!!). Poor your DD1 with her ear infection ? it is so horrible when they are ill. I?ve never seen DD like she was on Saturday ? she just sat in her seat on the aeroplane staring into space, dozing on and off. None of the excitement about anything that normally accompanies a trip on a plane ? but it did make it much more relaxing for us, I hate to admit. I?ve never had to use Calpol and Calprofen with her, but had to on Saturday to get her temperature down. Thankfully she is better today though. By the way, I?ve had up the back poo explosions in every single make of nappy, so I think it?s in the putting on technique and poo consistency rather than the nappy brand!!! And I?m obviously rubbish at putting them on!! PMSL laughing at the skinny jeans/diamante comment ? can?t see Toby in that outfit, even with the smallest nappy in the world! He?s a real boy?s boy! Going to be huge ? not chunky, but tall ? already in 6-9 month vests etc, but in 0-3 mth trousers, so definitely long body!

Chooster ? you?re Christmas sounds fantastic. Max seemed to have as good a time as DD did! As she is the only talking, walking grandchild/neice she gets spoilt rotten for attention when we are staying with my family! That necklace sounds so very special ? I can well imagine the emotions attached to it. What a fantastically thoughtful present. Well done Theo on taking the EBM from a bottle ? Toby doesn?t like formula either, if it is any conciliation! Chooster ? don?t you worry I weigh more than DH too at the moment! I was less when we got married, but 4 pregnancies got in the way of that!!! I was supposed to be less than him for me to get my eternity ring, but since I?ve already got that, what?s the incentive?!! Poor little Max at the soft play centre. DD always wants me to play with her too at the soft-play centres, but with Toby, I just can?t do it. She then asks the mother?s of her friends to come with her, which makes me feel a real failure!!! Although I have been in a couple of times, while leaving Toby with some of the said mothers (there was a big improvement in how well I could climb and slide between 3 weeks post birth and 10 weeks post birth at different parties!!!). Theo sounds like DD was ? she was eating really well during the day, but still waking every night and either devouring a boob, or a full 8 oz once on formula until she was at least 18 months and we decided we had to stop it (it was a long and painful process, but worth it now as she generally sleeps 7-7 most nights (although we still have duvet malfunctions pretty regularly! How old will she be before she is capable of pulling her own duvet up off the floor!!!).

Honeyapple ? poor Dexter with his excema ? think Toby may have patches on his forehead and cheekbones ? going to ask the HV tomorrow when I take him to be weighed ? E45 cream doesn?t seem to be clearing it up much at the moment. Glad that he seems to be a very happy little boy though. Ooh ? just read on ? poor boy on the antibiotics. Not fair really on these poor little babies ? he?s had a lot to deal with since he entered the world, poor little Dex. How did DS?s birthday go?

Mrsmc ? by the time I?ve caught up, you?ll probably have had your little one!!! Hope you are managing to relax some now ? money worries are not fun.

Beansprout ? great to hear from you ? where has the time gone?!!

Iampg ? you?re sounding quite relaxed for all you say you;ve lots to do ? it will suddenly be 40 week don?t you worry!!! Also you?re due on my birthday ? so that?s obviously a great day to aim for!!!

Seaside ? You?re sounding so excited ? I?m so jealous of all you ones with new babies on the way. My little Toby is not so little anymore. Fighting DH over moving Toby out into his big cot (he really is too big for the moses basket, but I don?t want my little baby to grow up too quickly). Anyway, wouldn?t worry too much about perineal massage ? never did it with either of my two births. No problems with one and needed a episiostomy with the other.

Love to you all ? (if you are still reading!)

rainbowdays - at your long journey and being back at work and far away from your DC's and DH. When will you get to be back home for good? Well done on the update - I had forgotten that my Fertility friend said my due date was the 20th - MW and notes all say 22nd but my charting said 20th so we will see - DH predicts 23rd anyway.

Chooster - poor DS1 at the soft play centre - but can't believe young theo is already on 3 meals +pudd!! (and boob too!) What kind of exercise is in your new regime?

honeyapple - Hope Dex is doing better with his skin - and what a sleeping star!
LOL about barbie cake! My parents fave story from when I was a child was how they spent an entire Christmas eve night trying to construct a Sindy House for me - but parts were missing so at 2am Dad was taping bamboo sticks from the garden shed to try and keep it up!! I am sure I will have many a cake disaster to come - I had a brownie meltdown before Xmas when I volunteered to make some for my NCT group - but put too much choc in and they just never set at all! DH loved demolishing the goo though!!

Yes I am really excited but it also feels a bit surreal - when I am packing the bags I cant believe they are for me IYKWIM? feels like an outer body experience. LOL about Dave - I have vetoed Dave going on the birth certificate but I know he will be nicknamed that now - DH keeps threatening to buy a sign for his door that says "Dave's Room"!

Bodders - loving the wellies! - I think Millets is fab- my best summer buy was a camouflage kagool from there that was a godsend for covering bump in the rain (ie all summer!) LOL about the breastfeeding - I really do think it all depends on the bub - BF councillor tried to tell us i NCT that bf babies more intelligent with less allergies and less likely to be obese- then there is me and DH - me - bottle fed all the way - skinny, no allergies - obv more intelligent! and DH - bf - allergies, fatter than me and def less intelligent!!!!

OK need more advice from you lovely ladies as you are on the topic- I am under no illusion that I will use reusables after birth - have bought some Tushies, Moltex and one other box of so called greener disposables for the start. But would like to use some resuables later - which brand? I am baffled - any recommendations??

Also back to an old fave subject - the AmbyNest - I have so far resisted and stuck to guns only buying the stokke cot system which I have rationalised will be all things for a long time - plan is to wheel it in and out of our bedroom as nec - however am having second thoughts about getting the hammock as well - I think all you with experience recommend it? If we have it will we never use the cot?? I guess I am just looking for reassurance to get the credit card out again! I said to DH I guess if it does not work well we can easily sell on ebay it seems?
What sort of sheets/bedding do you use with it - do you have to use their fitted sheets?

Sorry for so many questions!
Have had a stressful night with British Gas man - still no proper hot water (only tepid ) everytime they come it get worse not better - just want a boiler that works

On a good note I saw my cranio osteo today and she said Dave is doing really well - healthy and good - good position, strong but not too big (phew). She predicts he will be a few days overdue - so we will see if she is right!

Waves to everyone else - Mrsmc - only a week to go till d day!!! arghhh

xpost fettle and greedy - will catch up again!

seaside72 · 07/01/2008 21:19

greedy - Poor you and DS - hope the sickness bug is not returning - I am petrified of getting it in hospital (our local already has closed wards I have packed three types of antibac hand gel + wipes in my bags!)

fettle - well done on the catchup! Skiing sounds fab - your DD is def going to be some kind of sports star I am sure! I think it is brilliant that she is so outgoing and up for it - means you have done a brill job as a mum at giving her self esteem and confidence.

Got to go and get a new box of tissues - nose is pouring like a tap - cant believe I have such a stinker of a cold at 8.5 months - gutted!! So hoping it clears soon can't imagine going into labour feeling like this and not being able to breathe through nose - arghhh.

xxxxxx

fettleandbabyfettle · 07/01/2008 21:46

Sorry Greedy - crossed with, but had company so couldn't post again so soon! Didn't even have the opportunity to read through my post, so it probably doesn't make any sense!

So hope your little ones aren't coming down with something again - I hate dealing with sick and diarrhoea! Any other illness i'm fine, but yukky, yukky especially while your DH is away (what does he do that he's in Geneva for a night? sounds pretty glamourous (although cold and wet at this time of year!!).

Seaside - sorry your boiler is still playing up. Our boiler man came round this evening to get money for his work - £3000 near enough!!![ouch][really broke emoticon!]. But it is lovely having heat and lovely hot water. So hope you get yours sorted soon! You need proper hot water with a little one (not that you need me to tell you that!). don't worry about your cold, it will go in time for the birth and besides the hormones will get you through it. I seem to remember finally succumbing to a cold a few days before having Toby and thinking I wouldn't cope, but i did and I don't remember the cold going - it just disappeared overnight with the joy of having Toby in my arms!!!

Oh - I'm so clucky again for a newborn and DH won't even entertain the thought![bad DH emoticon!. I'm so lucky that I've bonded with Toby so well - I think I really missed out on these lovely few months with DD in hindsight due to depression and lonliness.

Got to go again!

Morning

Dex decided to have me up from 4am this morning so am feeling a bit groggy- he is now asleep again, so a quick bit of MN is in order!

Seaside-

Nappies- I have been using mostly Tots Bots fluffles- they are non-cotton though which some might not like- but they dry super fast and as I dont have a tumble drier, suit me well. They are so soft and squidgy as well- but perhaps a bit bulky- you can definitely tell when Dex is wearing one . I also have been using Motherease onesize which are good- should last longer as they fit supposedly until potty training You fold down the top to make them smaller for little bottoms- looked massive on Dex when he was smaller though. You also need wraps which are the waterproof bit to go over the top- I find I prefer Motherease airflow which have poppers to fix- but some prefer the Rikki ones which are velcro. I bought all my nappies 2nd hand- but bought new wraps as found the 2nd hand ones I had were a bit scratchy around the seams. I think it was good to buy some 2nd hand cos I have worked out which I like without paying out too much. I could send you some nappies for postage if you want a feel!

Amby hammock- I do love mine- but I wouldnt think it worth getting one if you have already forked out on the stokke cot- they are expensive and probably only last until baby is 8mths at the most... ie until they can move. However you are right about selling it on- they do have a good 2nd hand value. Dex doesnt settle particularly better in the hammock- but he does sleep well once he is in it- but I couldnt tell you if this is due to the hammock itself .

Mrs is quiet- you dont think she's had her baby yet do you??

Fettle- DS bday is on friday- he will be 9! Blimey- where has the time gone? We were looking back at his and DD's red baby books- comparing weight with Dex. Dex was my biggest baby- but he is the lightest now at 8 wks- he was 10.13. I guess he hasnt been well... but he is not a very big man yet! However he is now in 3-6mth vests and sleepsuits. I think trousers are always silly on the sizing- I remember my DS1 used to wear trousers for 2yr olds when he was about 4! His waist was too skinny to keep others up and they always had massively long legs.

Got to go and get some pressies for DS1 today- DP stupidly suggested getting him a DS lite- until he found out how much they cost ... and now DS1 is upset that I've told him we wont be getting him one . I said we would pay half and then he'd half to save up for the rest... but he didnt seem to impressed by this idea. It is really hard to get pressies for 9 yr old boys! They have grown out of toys... and want expensive things.

Think Dex is waking up...

iampgatlast · 08/01/2008 11:59

hello ladies

i have read and caught up but havnt got time to write a long message to you all at the moment, need to get ready for mw appt (really hope i can have my homebirth) but when i get back il update you all!

i wondered where mrsmc was too - i know she did mention that babies were prone to coming early in her family. how exciting our first baby in a long time!!

speak to you all later xxx

honeyapple · 08/01/2008 14:12

Ohhhh! Bodders- just popped into Millets whilst shopping for DS1 and found a pair of those Orla K wellies! Half price too . Now honeyapple is a happy bunny and looking forward to a muddy walk .

Iampg- good luck with getting your homebirth approved.

cityangel · 08/01/2008 23:36

Hello everyone. what a lot has happened on this thread since I've been on holiday.

MW appointment Thursday, scan Friday... I hate waiting :0(

I hope you are all well and wish you lots of luck and happiness in 2008

beansprout · 09/01/2008 05:56

I'm sorry not to post a long reply but just want to say "hi" to everyone and "ooh, ooh, ooh, do we think MrsMcJnr is holding her baby yet?!!!!"

seaside72 · 09/01/2008 09:26

Arghh - just wrote long msg and lost it!

Anyway - brief recap

Honeyapple - Ohh might have to rush off to my local millets!! Thanks so much for all the advice - I think I am going to hang fire on the amby nest - I love the stokkke and hope Dave will too - but if he is bad sleeper or suffer reflux/colic I will reassess - hopefully that is a good compromise

Nappies - I have seen tots bots but will check out motherease. The one in all the local shops down here is One LIfe? I think I will do some more research and see if I can get a sort of tester pack to give it a go.

I can't believe your DS is 9 on Friday!! You are not old enough!! How have you found it having babies at diff ages/points in your life? Sorry if that sounds rude but I always wonder if I have been selfish leaving it to 35 to have my first and with hindsight I would have like to started 5 or 6 years ago but oh well! Just don't want to be an 'old' mum. Come to think of it I think I must be one of the oldest on our thread - esp as I am only just having number 1??!

beansprout - how are you doing - you posted early!! 2 weeks till the CS!

I am sure we would know if MrsMc had gone into labour?? I hope she is OK though.

city - only 2 days till scan - thinking of you and keeping everything crossed - it is the best most magical moment - one you have waited so long for - the smile on my DH's face at the 12 week scan was one I wil never forget I am getting teary remembering it (pg hormones I am sure!!)

fettle - yippee - we have gotten to the bottom of our boiler probs - faulty shower thermostat downstairs - so we have turned taht off and have hot water - boiling in fact - everywhere else - now just got to the get the shower fixed!!

Iampg - how did it go with the mw and home birth plan?

waves to everyone else xxxxxxx

PS - on shopping talk - my glamorous silky robe from M&P online just arrived and it is gorgeous - totally impractical but in the sale I could not resist - I am imagining opening the door to visitors with babe in arms!! Reality will be puke covered old towelling dressing gown I know but I can dream right!!! and it loks pretty hanging up!
Will try and do a link.
