Anyone else not packed their hospital bag and feel like they have lots of stuff still to get organised? I went on a mad nesting spree around 30 weeks which has now cooled to having no motivation outside of looking after my toddler

Sls668 · 29/09/2020 12:44

@60sPony mine is only half done. Baby has everything packed, I have nothing 😂

I was feeling so overwhelmed last week with a new bathroom being fitted, delayed orders etc but now my furniture is coming tomorrow, bedside crib should come today, I’ve fitted the car seat into the car, the nursery is half decorated so I’m starting to feel a little more settled

FirstSurprise001 · 29/09/2020 13:28

Can’t really shout this achievement from the rooftops but I know you ladies will appreciate how unbelievably proud I am of managing this today!

Don’t get me wrong, it took an hour and my nipples now feel like they’re on fire but I didn’t even think I’d get 0.1ml at the start 🥰

@FirstSurprise001 OMG that's amazing, well done!! I've literally just had my 36 week appointment and mentioned trying to harvest colostrum and said 'is it ok if I just get a few drops?' 😅did you have to warm up the boobs before trying or was it fairly easy?

FirstSurprise001 · 29/09/2020 13:53

@Freddie1987 I did it in the bath as apparently the warmer you are and more relaxed the easier it is. There’s definitely a technique to it! At the start it was only a couple of drops but by the end there was definitely a lot more!

I think even if I get 3/4 syringes full before he’s here I’ll be happy 😃

CurlyMummy1912 · 29/09/2020 16:08

@EmmaA96 congratulations on your beautiful babies!

@SamK93 If I go into labour naturally before the booked c section, they get you in and do an emergency one. If the baby moves very quickly and is fully engaged/emerging they wouldn't be able to do this so it would be natural labour.

@FirstSurprise001 @SophieJosie95 I'm glad I'm not the only one missing a normal sex life. People always make so many comments about men being sex crazed and I just don't think it's true. I have a way higher sex drive than any man I've ever met! My partner works away at sea so it'll be feb before he's back and things can be a little more normal...well as normal as sex can be when you have a 3 month old to look after!

I have 4 weeks to go but I can't see how this can possibly go on! My tummy is so TAUT! It's rock hard - her movements are so powerful and I can't see how she can physically grow any more!!!

Not tried harvesting any colostrum yet but VERY impressed that some of you have! :-)

SophieJosie95 · 29/09/2020 16:23

I have my 38 week appointment on Friday, is it any different to the others? All mine have been pretty routine and boring haha!

Now I'm near the end I keep expecting lots of info from midwives but the care has been lacking really.

Home births are still suspended here, but with it being my first baby I'm not bothered for myself as I want to be surrounded by people who'll help me and feel hospital is the best place.

The OH is allowed in for the birth and one hour visiting every day. Hopefully I have a straight forward birth and can come home ASAP!

As for lightening crotch or 'fanny daggers' as everyone seems to call them haha! I have had a few episodes I nearly screamed with the first lot as it woke me up and I was so confused!

I've been getting some mild cramping on and off for a few weeks and my braxton hicks are getting almost painful lately. Not sure how my bump can possibly get any tighter!!

Random question, if any of you girls are on Instagram I have an interior/lifestyle page over there so it'd be nice to interact with any of you if you're on it! Smile

Sls668 · 29/09/2020 16:46

@FirstSurprise001 oo I feel like I have colostrum envy! I asked my midwife about it and she said there was no need but I still feel like it’s something I want to do. Say, for example, we are allowed home the same day, can OH feed the baby with the Colostrum through the syringe if I have a nap?

FirstSurprise001 · 29/09/2020 17:03

@Sls668 my midwife said the same but then I figured that I’d rather have it as a back up should the baby not latch and be starving! I asked this question on a mums group and most said that’s what they did it for. Their bellies are only the size of a cherry for the first few days so they wouldn’t probably need much more than 1 syringe I would have thought!

Mc3209 · 29/09/2020 17:29

@FirstSurprise001 oh that's colostrum goals! Once I get to 37 weeks, I will be trying to get some out. Have your boobs leaked at all? I had occasional crusty nipple (awesome 🥴) but otherwise no leak at all. I am worried I won't be able to get anything out..

FirstSurprise001 · 29/09/2020 17:34

@Mc3209 I thought it was colostrum goals too and then I’ve just read that the average baby takes around 4 a day. Best get doing some more hadn’t i 🙈😂 no my boobs hadn’t leaked at all so I was worried about the same! It’s definitely all about the technique, at the start I definitely wasn’t doing it right and hardly anything came out! Just keep practising when the time comes!

Also learn how to use a syringe otherwise like me you’ll end up with lots of air and accidentally squirting some back out 🙈😂

roarfeckingroarr · 29/09/2020 20:03

@WaveStreet we have the tutti bambini too. It's sitting in pieces against the wall until baby is here.

@FirstSurprise001 @Freddie1987 I've filled two and put them in the freezer, I think I might do another this evening. It's a satisfying feeling isn't it!

Loads of BH this evening. I might have another bath later Grin

SamK93 · 30/09/2020 01:59

Ladies helpppp please, I've always applied coco butter or coconut oil or moisturiser to my belly at night but OMG I woke up with the worse uncontrollable itchiness across my stomach nothing is soothing it, I've rubbed it with everything possible and now belly is BRIGHT red! Nothing is helping right now I just want to scratch it off 😭😭😭

Flora20 · 30/09/2020 06:45

@SamK93 Poor you, itching is horrible especially at night! Have a bath to get all the other stuff off your skin, rub cool aloe vera gel into it if you have any, maybe something neutral like olive oil if not?

Freddie1987 · 30/09/2020 09:32

@FirstSurprise001 @roarfeckingroarr wowzers, you guys are ON IT. I'm excited to get going once I hit 37 weeks on Friday 😁oh and @roarfeckingroarr all the BH sound promising, body definitely grading itself up...

@SamK93 Might be worth mentioning the itching to your midwife if it doesn't ease off today, I'm sure it's fine but I remember reading about it being a symptom you should report especially if it's on your palms too? Sounds like your skin might just be super sensitive at the moment though, best to try a day or two without applying anything at all.

Freddie1987 · 30/09/2020 09:33

@roarfeckingroarr sorry typo- I obviously meant your body is gearing itself up! 🤦🏻‍♀️

1990shopefulftm · 30/09/2020 10:02

@SamK93 you could try calamine lotion to cool the itching down maybe?

DressingGown87 · 30/09/2020 10:38

@FirstSurprise001 well done! Now you have the knack, hopefully it will be easy to get the other syringes.

@SamK93 hope the itching subsided. I would suggest a cold flannel, and if it doesn’t calm down as your MW. Hopefully it’s the last of the skin stretching.

5am seems to be my new wake up time! I’m not uncomfortable, so don’t know why my body decides to be awake. Also realised it’s now less than 2 weeks until I go to hospital!

OP posts:
WaveStreet · 30/09/2020 11:12

@SamK93 poor you with the itching, keep an eye on it but i was going to suggest calamine too and a cool flannel to stop the urge to scratch.

Great effort on the colostrum! I thought it was from 37 weeks but I asked my midwife on Monday and she said now is fine. Waiting for her to drop off some syringes but i managed to get some drops out quite easily after a bath the other day so hopefully it'll work.

@roarfeckingroarr what do BH feel like for you? Midwife thought i was having some when she checked me the other day but I haven't really felt anything.

Mc3209 · 30/09/2020 13:12

@SamK93 how is the itch? It's most likely skin stretching. The reason midwives advise to mention it to them is obstetric cholestasis (bile acid build up), but the itch usually affects hands and feet first. So if it doesn't go away, run it by your midwife.

@roarfeckingroarr you are almost there! How does it feel?

Mc3209 · 30/09/2020 13:14

@SophieJosie95 the only social media I am on is LinkedIn. I am currently being somewhat seduced by Twitter, but mainly as a lurker rather than poster.

Flora20 · 30/09/2020 13:28

Anyone else getting waves of exhaustion that just appear out of nowhere? Took my daughter out for a quick walk in the park this morning, didn't overdo it and felt absolutely fine, and as soon as I got back, I feel so out of it! It's been happening the last few days, I'll be fine and then out of nowhere it's like I've been drugged.

BH are picking up too, sometimes my bump feels so tight it's like it's going to burst! Didn't have them last time, it's a weird feeling!

SophieJosie95 · 30/09/2020 13:44

@Flora20

My BH are picking up too. I have them literally every couple minutes and they're quite painful but that's been going on for weeks. I've read online you can get uterine irritability which is similar to BH but more frequent than 4x an hour?

My stomach just contorts into such strange shapes and the back ache is something chronic!

I've had a birthing ball blown up for me so going to start using that to try ease some pain and do my pelvic floors as I've been a bit lazy with them!

SamK93 · 30/09/2020 14:40

Thank you so much ladies for the advice, I think I made it worse my rubbing everything I could on there and just rushed too much blood to that area it was bright red but I just couldn't control it I wanted to cry it was that bad. I was up until 4am I then stood by the freezer with the door open to let some cold air get on to my stomach for 5 minutes which cooled it down. I then washed everything off and put some Aloe Vera gel on which helped at the end. I'll be trying the calamine lotion as some of you suggested I think I have some left from when DS had chicken pox! It's a bit better today tried not to think about it but it feels so sore to touch. I hope it doesn't happen again 😭

@Flora20 I'm with you on the sudden waves of exhaustion, the school run and usual chores get too much for me I just get sooo tired all of a sudden. We should listen to our bodies though and rest when they're telling us to although it's hard when we have other children.

Also with everyone on the BH! Mine are all throughout the day but a lot more in the evening.

I'm thinking we should start a new thread tomorrow the beginning of October and hopefully it's the final one with all the babies!! @DressingGown87

Had my 36 week appointment today, he's 3/5 engaged but trying not to get my hopes up that means anything with him arriving early. Planning to have our last takeaway just the two of us at the weekend just incase.
