Hey so I'm 5 weeks pregnant! It's our first!

I feel kind of alone and lost because none of our friends or family know as we want to keep it a secret and I want someone to turn to to share my experience or ask questions.

Anyone fancy keeping touch on this thread?

I'm sick of googling stuff it just worries me lol x

@Teapotdespot Hope you're feeling better and they're getting you some answers 🤞

chrissagcat · 02/08/2020 20:40

@Teapotdespot hope all is ok and you feel better soon. What a stress 😢

SteadsWed2018 · 02/08/2020 21:09

Hi all, can I join to please? Just about 6 weeks with first pregnancy now and struggling that I have no one to talk to about it :(
I’ve been getting cramps, some nausea and breasts are killing today. Not been the best experience so far!

Teapotdespot · 02/08/2020 21:19

Still in hospital, waiting for a doctor to come and chat me through my blood results. They’ve found me a bed though and I’m on the surgical assessment unit for some reason which can’t be good, they won’t tell me anything so I have no clue what’s happening. I’m hoping that covid has messed up all the ward numbers etc so I’m actually just in a normal assessment unit and they’re not considering surgery for something.

RoRo78 · 02/08/2020 21:21

I'm 5 +3, I thought I was menopausal and turns out I am pregnant!
very nervous as I've had 3 miscarriages and I will be 42 by the time my child is born ,this goes full term that is.
I'm crossing everything that I have this baby
Congratulations to u y the way x

Bouncytree · 02/08/2020 22:36

@Teapotdespot it is sounding more hopeful in terms of the baby,. It’s very hard waiting and not knowing what is going on. All fingers and toes crossed for you 🤞🤞🤞

Teapotdespot · 02/08/2020 22:59

Had an internal, cervix is closed Smile

Teapotdespot · 02/08/2020 23:02

Also, HCG is 250, back in 48 hours for repeat HCG

mrsfitzyj · 02/08/2020 23:03

Hi all, I'd love to join if that's ok :) I'm 5+4 weeks and incredibly anxious. I have PCOS and a month ago was told I'd likely need an infertility referral after trying for a year. So this little one is a massive surprise and very wanted. I had suspected implantation bleeding when my period was due - that's what prompted my doctor to tell me to take a pregnancy test. Had a weird experience today where long story short I orgasmed (won't go into detail further than that) and anyway had brown mucus for a bit after. Slight panic but apparently it's very normal. In terms of symptoms, few cramps, very tired, boobs sore at night, and intermittent queasiness/mild nausea. Can't wait to have our 8 week scan to hear the heartbeat and just get over the first few weeks.

Bouncytree · 03/08/2020 00:14

Great news @Teapotdespot!! 🎉So happy for you. 😊

@mrsfitzyj hope you are ok, it can be a bit nervy in these first few weeks esp if you are having spotting. You obviously really want this baby.

@RoRo78 Lol that’s a lovely story! I am 41, 42 in December. Don’t believe the age thing, you are not a statistic! Fantastic article here by the British pregnancy association

www.bpas.org/get-involved/campaigns/briefings/older-mothers/

“it is important to remember that the great majority of pregnancies in older women are relatively uncomplicated and end quite satisfactorily. Our role is to identify those that will benefit from our help.”

@SteadsWed2018 so hard when you can’t tell anyone! The most life changing thing has happened and then it’s kind of an anticlimax for a bit!

I am WIDE awake tonight. Must be all that Progesterone 🤪

RoRo78 · 03/08/2020 00:30

@Bouncytree thank you
I will check that out thank you

Whatwouldyoudo22 · 03/08/2020 08:53

How is everyone today? I can't believe how tired I am with this first stage of pregnancy. At work counting the hours until I can crawl back into my bed!

Annie1211 · 03/08/2020 09:10

Question : when should you tell your boss?

I was off on holiday last week and I spent a good couple of days in my bed with extreme nausea or total exhaustion I'm just worried one day I need to phone in or go home early.

Do I tell my doctor why I'm feeling like that?

Unsure what to do x

Teapotdespot · 03/08/2020 09:31

@mrsfitzyj I also have PCOS, it's an absolute delight isnt it??

I felt really sick this morning, proper nausea and had a little cry Blush I'm really anxious for my repeat HCG test on Wednesday, my line is definitely getting darker but i have quite a bit of cramp and obviously the bleeding which isn't a good sign, although my cervix was closed yesterday which means the blood must be coming from elsewhere Confused The doctor who examined me said it looked like old blood but it wasn't clear where it was coming from since it's not coming from my womb directly. No idea on that one.

Teapotdespot · 03/08/2020 11:30

@Annie1211 you can tell your GP you're pregnant as soon as you get a positive test and they'll book you a midwife appointment around the 8 week mark.

In terms of work, it depends on how close you are to your employers and how risky your job is to the pregnancy. Office job for example, I'd probably be sharing the news after 12 weeks. Factory and heavy lifting or a care setting? I'd be telling them ASAP so they could risk assess etc.

If you're feeling rubbish and need to call in but don't want to tell them yet, you are under no obligation to tell them why you're sick. If you look unwell at work, people may guess but you don't need to confirm. Just laugh it off.

With the above in mind, although you don't actually HAVE to tell them until 15 weeks before your due date (i think), most people inform employers just after 12 weeks :)

Annie1211 · 03/08/2020 11:41

Thankyou so much for this info @Teapotdespot

How are you feeling today? Xx

Teapotdespot · 03/08/2020 11:49

@Annie1211 I’m doing fine, actually slightly more positive but torturing myself checking if the line on IC’s is getting darker Blush I’m not convinced!

Annie1211 · 03/08/2020 11:51

@Teapotdespot glad you are good, it sure is getting darker!!! 😁

@Teapotdespot PCOS is a total nightmare. I just did a how many weeks pregnancy test to see had it moved on last week and it has by one week. I hear you on the anxiety front. Hope you're ok ❤️ I'm sure the bleed is normal but have everything crossed for you. I've my first scan today at 2.30, they're unsure if I am 8 weeks or 6 weeks as my last period was 15 June but with PCOS my cycles are longer. Still spotting but it's brown! No cramps but slight twinges. Nausea is pretty tough today though.

SarahLouiseI · 03/08/2020 12:14

I’m 6+6 weeks. This is my 4th and oh my gosh I’ve never had symptoms like this. I’m so fatigued I can’t even lift my arms or walk. I feel sick all the time. I’m dizzy and don’t get time started on the headaches. My son said I look poorly and the other son said I look yellow. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t know if I have anemia or a vitamin deficiency but I feel terrible.
We havnt told anyone yet, we are waiting until the 12 week mark. Because a) we know we will get some negative comments because it’s our 4th, even though we are both happy about it b) I’m 39, older this time and want to make sure it’s safe to share the news.
Any advice about when’s the right time to call the gp? With my others I waited until 8 weeks ish. Is this still ok?

Teapotdespot · 03/08/2020 13:45

New weird symptom: all meat smells like cat food Confused

JTB123 · 03/08/2020 14:15

@Teapotdespot how many weeks are you again? X

Teapotdespot · 03/08/2020 14:22

@JTB123 debatable! I'm technically 5+4, but only 16dpo due to late ovulation.

meeemaw · 03/08/2020 15:56

Hi guys, hope it's okay to join.
I'm 5 weeks 2 days today. Had some light brownish spotting today, not a lot but still worried. I'm not having horrendous cramps, just the usual very mild on and off cramps that I've put down to uterus growing and stretching. Woke up with nausea today too.
I've been trawling the internet and it's a mixed box of "light brown discharge is normal" to "ectopic or miscarriage" so I'm monitoring it and seeing how it goes. Anyone else have this?

Teapotdespot · 03/08/2020 17:48

@meeemaw I’m going through the same except my cramps have been one sided and quite intense. I reassure you though, after getting checked out there’s no signs there’s anything wrong for me yet, I get my second HCG test tomorrow. It’s such a worrying time Flowers
