@BntTowers very exciting on the Amazon haul. Your MIL sounds like she's going to be fun. Time limits are a good idea and getting dh to help control them. Plus, I'm not sure about you, but some help you just want from your own mum and 20 mins is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy yes! Not back until Aug 3rd and even then I'll take on less. Not being back is brilliant, lots of time to organise and rest before baby gets here 😍

@Alana1984 might be a Scottish thing for sure, it was a big book on what to expect each week, stuff on labour and when baby is here. It's all online here too www.nhsinform.scot/ready-steady-baby. The course was pretty good too, probably not as in depth as the paid ones, was mainly about breathing exercises and getting ready for labour.

Midwife appointment went well. Met my final midwife, blood pressure fine and dh got to hear baby heartbeat. She asked about feeding and supported my decision to choose either way with no pressure from her. She said it's that breast milk had more antibodies and that it can help reduce risks on yourself but that it's not a sure thing and your baby will bond and adore you whether it's a boob or bottle. I think I love her a little bit...

MrsK89 · 17/07/2020 15:06

Hi everyone can I join the group.
I'm due my 4th 10th October, expecting baby boy!
Hope everyone is well, time is flying so fast this time.
I'm getting terrible pains though "down there", not sure exactly where it is but it's everytime I walk or stand up from sitting.
I was looking at buying a baby sling carrier, has anyone ever tried them before? Thought it'd be useful for school runs or one of them car seats that turn into a pram?

Treaclepie19 · 17/07/2020 15:12

Your midwife sounds amazing @Quiffy!
I'm seeing mine Wednesday.

Welcome @MrsK89! Sounds a bit like spd. I'm struggling with the pains now.

Anyone else feeling a bit lazy? I'm either feeling unwell or tired and today its too hot. I'd planned to go for a walk but can't bear it. Little worried though because I've been sat down nearly all day. Again.

MrsK89 · 17/07/2020 15:16

I am so tired but I don't get a chance to have a nap during the day.
I'm 27ish weeks now and my bmi was 30.5, and I've only put on 2lbs. Is that about right because I'm overweight or obese?
I remember putting on atleast 2 stones on my last pregnancies but my weight was a lot lower Grin

Alana1984 · 17/07/2020 15:26

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy and @Quiffy - ah, Scotland, that explains a lot!

@Treaclepie19 yes! I've booked a day off work and I can't be bothered to do anything but laze in the garden and crochet, we'll try and pop for a walk later though...

Anyone seen Boris's news on further easing lockdown and people returning to their physical workplaces? How do you guys feel about that? I'll confess its making me a little nervous because it means I have less control over my own exposure (I'm incredibly lucky to still wfh but hubby has to go in the office) and I'm worried it'll result in a harsh lockdown again just as we go into labour and dh wont get to be there with me.

If there are topics to be avoided BTW, just let me know. I understand feelings on lockdown can be a bit emotive...

blankiesandunicorns · 17/07/2020 18:31

Thank you @AutumnBabyWinterMummy @bluemoon2468 @BettyBotter1 @MrsD1990 they are the 2 I have seen online and look good and are similar prices so will go for one if those. I feel like I am starting to freak out about labour as I had long hard labour last time and want to try and control my anxiety!

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 17/07/2020 22:00

@MrsK89 Hi, course you can join! Are you getting pains when you turn over in bed at night in that area or when going down stairs? I have spd had it really bad a few weeks ago but have been doing a lot less activity wise and it's got so much better. You need to try and take it easy when you can. But I suppose easier said than done with 3 kids!! I think the weight gain you mentioned sounds good but maybe you could have even been ok with putting on more but I don't really know! My bmi at beginning was about 27 and I've put on about 1 stone 8. After looking at what I should be putting on for the whole 40 weeks I'm just about there so I don't want to put any more on going to try my best to maintain.

I've got my midwife on Tuesday, it's the 28 week one, is this where she will tell me how big the baby is? I know a few of you have commenter about this.

@Treaclepie19 yes I am also feeling a bit lazy! But I think also due to lack of motivation it just feels like everything I do these days is to do with diy getting ready for baby and I'm really bored of it.

@Alana1984 no I don't think you need to avoid those subjects! Although we don't all talk about it loads it's still a major part of all of our pregnancies!!! I didn't see it but sort of read up on it and I think we just need to keep following the advice for pregnant women so feel maybe what boris says is not always guided at us. I just keep reading maternityaction.org.uk/covidmaternityfaqs/ and last I looked a few days ago said we should not be in a workplace unless can safely distance at least 1m. But I suppose it depends what you do and if they can make sure you're not close to anyone. I'm a nanny and can't keep distance so have been told not to work. I did have to work about 6 weeks though up until about 2 weeks ago and to be honest I felt ok. I slightly felt like I wasn't being as safe as I should be as time went on but I am relieved to have been furloughed again.

@blankiesandunicorns Well it may just be first time mum enthusiasm but out of everything going on in the world right now my labour is one thing I'm not nervous about and that I'm actually looking forward to all because of that course!! Xx

blankiesandunicorns · 17/07/2020 22:07

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy that's brilliant it is so exciting, I am looking forward to it too, it's just my anxieties from last time but I want to take some control. Hopefully the course will be helpful. I had my 28 week appointment Monday and she does measure you but it's not particularly accurate from my experience, I was measuring 1 week ahead with my DD and she wasn't very big. I am measuring ahead again this time but not looking too far into it. Good luck and hope it goes well I quite liked it, just seeing someone is reassuring

NWnature · 17/07/2020 22:08

Hi all, eek I missed a few days and the posts have whizzed by. Welcome to new people :)

Also exciting on the buggy front - we still haven’t decided! Still haven’t bought much besides the car seat. I’m thinking maybe in a couple of weeks I need to get organised.

I won’t be expected back into the office so I’ve told work I’ll start my mat leave on my due date and I’ll probably take some holiday beforehand depending on how I’m feeling.

We’ve got our private scan this Sunday when I’ll be 28+1 dying to see what’s going on in there and hear how big the baby is and position etc. Still only feeling movement pretty sporadically and low/ sides only owing to placenta!

Happy Friday all!!!

Zaalfruit · 17/07/2020 23:09

Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes ! Saw my parents and younger siblings today my younger brother 20 got me a pink bag so cute - as a baby bag . ( a little Back pack ) they are so excited to meet their first niece/ grand child.

Near my parents house there is a Next outlet ‘choice’ I went a little crazy got a lot of baby grows for 3 pounds and little outfits .
Still need to buy 2 big ticket items - car seat and buggy - will do it soon - just placing everything on hold.

On another note is anyone else emotional - I keep crying randomly ! My hospital is still going by active labour only birth partner allowed and no one else . When I was reading all the messages here I cried my eyes out thinking how hard lock down pregnancy and labour is .

BntTowers · 18/07/2020 01:05

@Zaalfruit sounds like you had a lovely day. I am so overly emotional, lock down and lack of sleep are getting to me again.

Why is it that men can always fall asleep so easily? I hardly slept last night, then tonight got 15 minutes in then I got woken up by him chasing a cat out of our room. And now he is fast asleep and I'm here, awake still. He could have just left the sodding cat in our room. I was supposed to be trying to relax before having a pamper day tomorrow and now I'm just pissed off and will definitely be tired.

@NWnature exciting that you've got your private scan tomorrow, have fun! Ours is next weekend.

@Alana1984 definitely don't need to avoid those subjects. My work has been so unclear on what's happening I have no idea. If they do open the office again I'm going to ask to continue to WFH as I really don't want to be going in plus I would have to catch the bus into work now as opposed to walking which I would normally do 1.5 miles first thing in the morning before a day of work would be a bit much for me at the moment.
I worry too and have said to people that I think there will be a second wave right around the time I'm due for a while now. They keep telling me to stop being silly and it will all relax and change soon... I am doing to positive birth company course and that has helped a little. I'm only about half way through and I am looking forward to birth now and I am definitely more prepared to spend as much time as possible at home so will hopefully be getting to the hospital when in established labour anyway. I think that will help with feeling more in control of the situation.

Eurgh, sorry for the massive, ranty post. I'm going to blame the lack of sleep and bad mood again.

Zaalfruit · 18/07/2020 01:36

@BntTowers I am part of no sleep gang - so true about men.
I am in a really bad mood too - we had a huge argument About money , dh and I . Feel like kicking him off the bed - his snore breathing is making me angrier .

I hope you get some sleep.

Spark27 · 18/07/2020 03:23

I'm with you girls on the no sleep. Last few days I've had difficulty falling asleep before 2330ish, then awake 0230ish-0600ish and then DD wakes at 0700. Up visiting the inlaws this weekend (1st time since xmas). My MIL is the classic annoying MIL, so being unable to drink is making it challenging! We are trying to keep the 1m away, and DD is being really good at it, but all the sarky remarks from MIL is annoying.
I managed to be in bed asleep by 2300 but then DH came up later and woke me up, and then since 0230 I've been listening to him snore. Great. Thinking about smothering him with a pillow Grin

bluemoon2468 · 18/07/2020 03:46

I'm awake too 🙄 I just seem to wake up around 3am and have real trouble falling back to sleep. Doesn't help that baby is having a dance party!

BettyBotter1 · 18/07/2020 05:37

Also awake, most nights around 4am, wide awake, then tend to fall asleep around 6am and be dead to world when alarm goes off and have to get up. Dh also fast asleep. What's a way to wake men up without them realising it was you?! Our cats are totally spoilt and get slept round if they've decided to sleep on the bed 🙄. They are going to be very put out once baby is here and they get shut out. I'm hoping they will give baby a wide berth. Terrified of me falling asleep and them getting into the moses basket.
@Zaalfruit glad you had a nice day. I'm really enjoying how excited everyone in the family is about the baby. First grandchild on both sides for us. I'm def more emotional than normal, lack of diy progress has had me near tears and crying my eyes out at anything sentimental in movies. Hate arguing about money, especially when there are so many new expenses right now.
@BntTowers hope your colleagues are right, I'm also worrying about possible second wave when we're due. @Spark27 good luck with your in laws today, sounds very annoying. At least it sounds like they are outside of cup of tea distance and popping over all the time. Welcome @MrsK89 and @YukoandHiro! @NWnature so exciting for your scan!!
@bluemoon2468 @Spark27 @Zaalfruit @BntTowers I hope you all got to sleep 😴

Zaalfruit · 18/07/2020 07:16

I couldn’t fall asleep lol I got the Disney plus trial 🤣 I watched old episodes of Simpson’s. Went bathroom in the night and dh has nicked my pregnancy pillow - I was livid @Spark27 I Am with you On the pillow smothering .

I hate when it’s really hot - baby has less movements and it scares me. Trying to tap my stomach to wake her .

LexiM · 18/07/2020 07:44

Welcome to the group @MrsK89 - I hope you feel a bit more comfortable soon.

I've been awake for a while, watered the plants and cleaned the kitchen. Now tempted to go back to sleep if I can! My husband is also the annoying sleeps well, steals the pillow and snores type. He is also really far on my side and theres me worrying about taking up too much space!

@BettyBotter1 our cat is spoilt too and weve already started shutting him downstairs at night so he isn't put out when the baby arrives. We are surprised at how well hes taken to it and just accepts it. He only cries to be let out once he hears we are awake.

@Spark27 sounds so annoying, hope the rest of your visit goes better. I'm kind of glad we live near ours so never have to sleep over.

Do any of you have friends or family saying they want to get a gift but want to know what you want? It's a nice problem to have but I'm starting to think I need to think about it more. I can see i would say "we don't have any toys" then get a ridiculous amount of them and I feel bad when things are wasted and not used. We haven't got any toys or books as thought they are good things to suggest although I expect theres only so many toys a very young baby can play with. Any other ideas?!

Indigogirl88 · 18/07/2020 08:20

@Zaalfruit glad you had a good day, you must live near my family as they have a choice near them which I'm dying to go to!

I'm with you all on the sleep front, up 3 times last night however baby girl moving lots.

Welcome to the newbies!

Trying to get some normality today neeting a friend for lunch. I totally overdid it again last night in the cleaning and feel I've pulled a little muscle at the bottom of my bump, i hope I don't need to worry!

I'm struggling to type these days due to this blooming carpel tunnel I swear this better go after birth!

My boss hasn't requested I go back shes very much its up to how I feel, however I'm worried ill miss out on office life before mat leave. But my baby is my priority now so I don't think ill miss 6 weeks worth of office banter tbh

Indigogirl88 · 18/07/2020 08:22

@lexim I'm the same we are nearly done and not sure what to suggest for gifts either, but the thing is I think I've been over prepared due to lock down I wouldn't have been this prepared if it was normality

BntTowers · 18/07/2020 08:35

I was up a few more times, managed a little sleep. DH is still snoring, smothering isn't a bad idea.

Our cats normally do sleep downstairs which is why it would have been unusual for him to be upstairs but it really wouldn't have mattered with how much I'm awake every night anyway as I could have taken him down at some point.

@lexiM we got that the other night. I don't know what to say with gifts.

MrsD1990 · 18/07/2020 08:51

@lexim I think if any friends ask what I'd like I'll ask for baby clothes for when he's older - at the moment I only have clothes until 3 months so that'd be quite useful just to have in. I think your book idea is a really good one - people might end up buying you their old favourites which I think is lovely 😊

Zaalfruit · 18/07/2020 08:56

All this cat talk - I really want a cat but dh is really allergic.

Welcome to all the newbies here in this chat - feel free to talk about it all - a lot of us are the the same boat.

When people ask about gifts I just find it so uncomfortable 😣 I try and be super polite , I don’t need anything just lots of well wishes that baby come out safe and healthy. Books is a great idea for a gift I normally gift a few books and a small toy . ( I always give the gift receipt for the toy as well - just because I feel everyone should change what they don’t like )

My dh sighs heavily in his sleep randomly - snores , steals my pregnancy pillow - drops the duvet and always pushes me . When we first started living together he used to push me off the bed with his movement . Now I just kick him or poke him if the snoring gets loud. He fell asleep on the plane once and his snoring was so loud the air hostess woke him up and told him he is distributing the other people . He was mortified and told
Me why didn’t I move him - I told him I did but you kept snoring again 🤣

Alana1984 · 18/07/2020 09:06

Oh @Zaalfruit I'm so glad you said that, mine moves a lot less when it's hot - makes me so nervous!

Rubbish nights sleep, just too hot and my stomach feels very tight this morning.

Ah, we have created a unique cat problem - our two dislike each other so one lives upstairs, one lives downstairs at night. Daytime they can go wherever except the nursery (office) which has always been shut.

Fortunately the upstairs cat wouldn't go near baby or climb into cribs, if anything I'm worried about her getting anxious and peeing under the bed. Downstairs cat will definitely be in that crib before I can blink so I'm going to have to be very careful with her. Even thought about getting an inovi cocoon for downstairs so she can't get in when I leave the room for 2 seconds!

LostinAusten2 · 18/07/2020 09:31

Hey welcome to the new joiners 😊 Glad you’d a lovely birthday @Zaalfruit and folks midwife appointments are going well - we’ve got our 28wk one Tuesday coming, will be great just to check it’s all going to plan.

And just to support those with sleep difficulties and crying a lot: had no idea I’d be sleep deprived in pregnancy, thought it was only post-birth! So grateful I don’t have to go into the office as well, not sure I could cope with seeing many folk when I’m feeling this tired and emotional.... Have parents visiting over the next few weekends for the first time and a bit nervous about it - everyone in my family puts on a brave face but think I’ll have to be honest and say I’m flaming knackered!

Upsides: gift ideas sound great, agree with the books idea, and thanks for all the advice on positive birth company - starting today 🤞

Quiffy · 18/07/2020 10:05

@MrsK89 welcome!

@Alana1984 I'm feeling very stressed about another lockdown coming around when october hits. I watched Boris and it all seemed very vague. We have the deaths low atm up here but I'm worried about tourism starting again and other countries coming in. My mil was complaining about the idea of the border getting closed and her not seeing baby straight away, I told her I'd rather the border was closed than have to go through a lot of labour alone. She pretty much said she'd rather I was alone so she got to see baby. Had to tell the hormones not to snap her 😹😹 at least dh was annoyed with her too

@NWnature not going back to work and a scan tomorrow - that's a very good start to the weekend 😻

I'm with you all on annoying DHs and cats. Dh stayed up until 2am last night and I got up to pee as he came to bed. He was already snoring his head off by the time I got back and two cats had stolen my side of the bed. I have to pee every few hours during the night and there's always a cat or husband on my side. So I get annoyed and I'm awake for ages trying to sleep.

@Alana1984 my mum has that problem, she's got 4 cats but two hate each other so one stays upstairs and the other down. The other two go everywhere. They need counselling 😹

@LostinAusten2 definitely be honest and say you're tired, otherwise you'll just suffer even more

Anyone find baby doesn't like you lying a certain way. I've been trying to sleep on my left side but baby keeps punching and pushing into the mattress when I do. He's fine when I turn over to my right
