@booroo oh that's great feedback thank you. Also a horsey and doggy family over here!
I dreamt last night I was pushing the baby round the yard in a wheelbarrow. Woke up and thought maybe that is more practical and cheap than a pram!

Zaalfruit · 16/07/2020 17:11

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes only a few more mins and I’m done with work till Monday ! Yay !!

Omg buggy’s choices are so hard - I love all of them and I get so indecisive .

BettyBotter1 · 16/07/2020 17:35

On the buggy front we've gone for a Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle which, despite the name, is supposed to be really good off-road. We live in the countryside too and want something for muddy walks. I like that it has a carrycot for overnight sleeping when baby is little and we stay with family and it can be parent or world facing from 6 months. We didn't go to a shop so it's all researched on line but hopefully we'll be happy with it. It was between that and the icandy peach.

blankiesandunicorns · 16/07/2020 17:41

Happy birthday @Zaalfruit

I didn't have to make a decision with a pram my cousin was selling hers and we are having hers really cheap, I had all new with my first and happy with second hand this time around. But it is exciting if you can choose one!

BettyBotter1 · 16/07/2020 17:51

I had a phone call from the health visitor this afternoon, she said in our area they're doing it over phone rather than in person. She wanted to check I was ok and talk breastfeeding and sleep safety. She also outlined when future appointments would be and told me about the baby clinics for the first weeks. She is also going to email me useful links of things to read. It was quite friendly and helpful.

I'm also finding the guidance not particularly clear at the moment. I've been told I'm expected to be in work from Sep rather than continuing to wfh which fills me with worry. Was planning to go on maternity leave at 38 weeks but am now thinking of bringing forward to 35 weeks to avoid having to go back in person. Think I'll be so big and comfy by that point it would be a real struggle having been able to wfh since march.
Hi @Alana1984 - yes I'm loving having some fellow pregnant ladies at the same stage to chat to. I don't know anyone else who is pregnant at the moment and all local groups are cancelled.

booroo · 16/07/2020 17:52

@Buzz22 by the time they're toddling a wheel barrow and splash suit covered child will be your very best friend Grin

LexiM · 16/07/2020 18:30

@Quiffy sorry I was definitely confused then, my memory is so bad!! I agree if you dont like a name just keep quiet, why do people need to comment. I wouldnt dream of it. You should totally go for the middle name you love. It's funny my husband thinks middle names should have meaning to you or link to someone you love where as I think go for what you like!

@Zaalfruit happy birthday!! Enjoy your extra day off too.

@Buzz22 weve gone for the Uppababy Vista. Good for all terrain, the basket is huge and it had such good reviews on threads on here. I've hardly seen anyone complain about it. My sister had an older model and really rated it and used it for dog walks etc. Sorry I dont know much about the specific icandy prams but know as a brand they have good reviews. Sometimes I think you get what you pay for when it comes to prams although second hand is also a good option. My mum has a smallholding and has got a second hand mamas and papas all terrain for the farm as it's just easier to get that muddy! She got it for £40 off facebook market place.

@Alana1984 welcome to the group, I also love talking to people here. I try and post regularly otherwise I miss things and struggle to catch up!!

I was under the impression we have to be extra cautious of social distancing from 28 weeks. Cant see how it could be to shield when people with far more risky medical conditions aren't all shielding now either. Personally I think it's just about being sensible.

MummyBearBoo · 16/07/2020 19:02

@Zaalfruit happy birthday xxx

Treacle81 · 16/07/2020 20:30

Yes it's quite frustrating getting the same information, saying that Scotland are doing things differently and later it seems. Apparently tomorrow we get new information regarding shielding so soon see xx

MrsD1990 · 16/07/2020 22:28

Happy birthday @Zaalfruit!! Hope you had a lovely day!

@Buzz22 we bought the baby zen yoyo. Gets quite expensive with the new born pack as well - almost £500 I think. We bought it because it's one of the lightest weight and meant to be good for living in the city and packing away easily. Have noticed a lot of people that live near us (North London) use it and it's got really good reviews. Quite a few people we know have it and love it too.

Quiffy · 17/07/2020 07:31

@Alana1984 I love your work excuse on WiFi. I have drawn out a power cut in my time for a day off 😹

@Buzz22 Stomp V4 here. It had good reviews and wasn't too expensive, esp as we got a package deal with a bouncer etc. Ultimately though I just liked how it looked, esp the black and bronze. Just about everyone in my small town has the grey Vennici so wanted something different. Dh and I count how many we see when we drive through town 😹

@BntTowers great job on the walk, my worry there is that you go mad in b&m and have too much to carry home 😅

@LexiM I sometimes think middle names are harder as there's family expectations. I'm all for going with what you like, my mum did the same. Plus I think DH has churchy names as his mum used to send them all to Sunday school and choir practice as it was free Sunday childcare 😹😹😹

@Treacle81 yeah I think we still have shielding atm but it's about to get changed. It's hard to know what to do, esp when employers want everyone back to get their £1000 payout.

I've noticed a massive difference in breathing in the last week, getting really out of breath over daft things. I can't even gulp down water like I usually do as then I can't breathe. So I can see why after 28 weeks they're worried about us coping with covid.

Midwife appointment today and I think DH can come, which is very odd. I hope she asks us if we've read our Ready Steady Baby or done the free online antenatal class we were given as Ive done both and dh hasn't so I want to be smug.

Treacle81 · 17/07/2020 08:01

@Quiffy yes think the update is today. Good work on your Amazon haul and good luck for today. I have noticed breathing issues yet my blood pressure read fine so must be quite common at this stage xx

YukoandHiro · 17/07/2020 08:04

Hi everyone, expecting my second in early October!
For anyone thinking about prams and living in a city, we have a bugaboo bee 5 and it's still going strong for our toddler after 3 years constant use and will be used with a buggy board for the newbie. We live in a second floor flat, no lift, and it's been good in terms of light enough to carry upstairs (until toddler herself got too heavy). Generally very happy, only gripe is that the basket is small

Quiffy · 17/07/2020 08:08

@Treacle81 so excited to play with it all today 😹 might not be so chirpy when I can't find places to fit it all though...

Buzz22 · 17/07/2020 08:37

Thanks for all the pram advice ladies.
As it turns out DP surprised me and at 8am this morning a lovely brand new icandy peach has been delivered. So feeling very spoilt as it was super pricey. Was expecting to hunt one down second hand. Hes in my good books today!
And I can now stop second guessing my pram choice as it's too late! Plus it sounds like one of the sensible choices for our needs going by what you've all told me.

We've also booked a private growth/4d scan as I cant stop worrying about this small bump. I hope midwife will reassure me next week. It seems like forever since I saw her.

Has anyone else had any more updates about visitor policies at their hospitals? I'm really hoping they update ours with some good news maternity wise soon.

blankiesandunicorns · 17/07/2020 08:55

@Quiffy I see what you mean about being breathless, I coughed yesterday and realised how much more difficult it is to cough now that I'm heavily pregnant.

@Buzz22 I think the scan sounds like a good idea, not because there's something wrong but to put your mind at rest you can't put a price on piece of mind I had an early scan for that reason.

Anyone done a hypnobirthing course online? I'm looking into it incase I can't get an nhs one and wondered what they're like? Looks like they're around £40. Sorry if this topic has been covered and Iv missed it!

bluemoon2468 · 17/07/2020 09:54

@Buzz22 my hospital now allows one allocated visitor 8am-8pm for antenatal/postnatal stays and induction, but they have to go home overnight. One birth partber is allowed throughout active labour and for 4 hours after the birth, after which they have to go home if it's nighttime, but can stay during the day as above. What's yours saying?

bluemoon2468 · 17/07/2020 09:55

@blankiesandunicorns a lot of us have done the positive birth company digital pack - I highly recommend it, so worth the money.

BettyBotter1 · 17/07/2020 09:58

@blankiesandunicorns I'm currently working my way through The Positive Birth Company digital pack! You get a lot in it for your money and I'm learning new things. Where I am NHS doesn't seem to provide any antenatal education at all at the moment. I want to understand what will happen to me in labour!

Quiffy · 17/07/2020 10:09

@Buzz22 ahhh that was so lovely of him!!

My hospital is one visitor for 30 mins a day if you get induced. You're allowed two birth partners from active labour and one birth partner gets to stay an hour after delivery and other partner two hours. Then it's back to only 1 named visitor for 30 mins a day. Better than it was but still pish.

@bluemoon2468 yours sounds much better being allowed during the day!

@blankiesandunicorns the joys of the third trimester squished lungs 😅

BntTowers · 17/07/2020 10:29

@Quiffy I think that would have happened of it weren't so awfully hot in there. Didn't even get everything I wanted.

@Buzz22 that's so nice. You don't have to worry about it now because you are all sorted!

My Amazon haul is coming today and I'm excited.

I think my hospital hasn't changed too much yet. It's still one birth partner whilst in active labour who can stay for 1 hour after. Then the only thing that has changed is that instead of limiting visiting of that one birth partner to 1 hour a day it's now 2 hours that have to be pre-booked the day before. Still quite rubbish really.

Yesterday evening the in laws came round... Asking what they can buy for us and what clothes we need. I feel bad saying we've got a lot of because we don't expect anyone to buy us things. Mil has saved all the knitwear that her mum knitted for DH and brothers and sister so we will be using that. She was also very insistent that they are so much closer than my mum and can come round any time to help, with whatever we need. In reality they about about 20 minutes closer and I'm not sure what she expects from us at the moment. Once they get to our house it always takes them about an hour to leave I have to be practically asleep to get them to go. I think I'm going to have to give them time limits then just end up going upstairs with the baby at that time to get them to leave us alone and let DH deal with getting them to actually leave.

MrsD1990 · 17/07/2020 12:30

@blankiesandunicorns I'm one of the many people who has been doing the digital pack from the positive birthing company. Recommend watching it with you birthing partner - we've both learned loads!!

@bnttowers how exciting about your Amazon haul!! Mine came yesterday and on a half day today so going to open it this afternoon! Days off from work feel so samey to being at work because of WFH so trying to make it feel different.

@bnttowers Sorry about your in-laws, so inconsiderate if they come over lots or overstay their welcome. Hopefully your DH will be firm with them and tell them to leave or not come over if it's not a good time. I've been telling DH I don't want any visitors for the first week (maybe 2). Know family will be desperate to see the baby but we live so far from them it's not like they'll pop over for a bit - they'll need to stay the night etc and I want some time to get used to things and recover before having to host people!!

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 17/07/2020 12:36

@Zaalfruit happy birthday for yesterday!

On the topic of middle names, mine is Rose and then my mums name so I think I'll do the same with the baby so her middle name is I'll be Rose Emily so in a way I'm starting our own tradition! We have too many people we will upset if we start putting family members names into it!!

@Quiffy is this your first day off! How exciting!! I feel very lucky to have been furloughed and have been told I won't be expected back until after baby. I don't know how I'll cope if I ever get pregnant again with actually having to work throughout!!!

@Alana1984 it does move fast doesn't it! I used to post every day but now it's just occasional! I do however read all the posts daily!! And that's good baby head down already!! And about your lockdown post I also feel like I'm missing out but I'm always in two minds if I should do something it's just hard work always deciding!! I don't want to waste this pregnancy though by not like doing nice things but I feel in a way I have am. I've also just started cutting my hair at home when I see a dry end! Probably looks horrible but it's driving me mad!!

@Buzz22 oh how lovely been surprised with a pram! Bet you love it and also feel so much Better it's such a huge thing off your list ✅ Our hospital is still the same. Partners can come when 4cm dialated and can stay I think a few hours after then if kept in can come I think for an hour a day after that.

@otterbaby oohh the massage sounds amazing. I'm in two minds whether to book one. I'm being really strict about who comes into the house though and think I'll just be even worse when baby here so would feel a bit of a hypocrite if I then went for a massage.

@MrsD1990 I've heard loads of good things about the baby zen!

@YukoandHiro welcome!

@blankiesandunicorns yes I think a few of us have done positive birth company, I really rate it and completely recommend.

@BntTowers exciting about your amazon! I got loads yesterday. And now have got everything i need for baby! Just a few tiny bits but waiting until baby shower as it's more things like clothes towels blankets and may get those sorts of things bought as gifts. Also need a few bits for labour (for me not baby!) which I'll get closer to the time! Xx

Alana1984 · 17/07/2020 12:42

@Quiffy ready steady baby? Online antenatal course? I've definitely not been told about any of these things - we've signed up to nct and I've got some books but the NHS has been a bit cursory, I've had phone calls and standard scans and two face to face appointments. In, bump measured, urine sample taken, next appointment booked and out.

I should check the hospital rules, I've asked the midwife but she doesn't seem to want to commit to an answer, just says it'll all have changed by then...

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 17/07/2020 12:47

@Alana1984 do you live in England? From what I remember quiffy lives in Scotland so I think they may have different things the nhs offers x
