Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

@Frazzlerock that's fabulous news! 😁

Sheera1 · 21/05/2020 16:28

@Frazzlerock woo hoo that is amazing and so fast too!!! So so pleased for you. Hope you feel a bit better about being positive and starting to plan things and look at prams!

@sk283 welcome and congrats!!! Xx

WhatWouldPennyDo · 21/05/2020 17:17

@sk283 congratulations!

@Frazzlerock, that is fantastic news! I got a high chance of Down’s on my combined test and was so relieved to get my NIPT results back at 1:1000000 so I know just how relieved you’re feeling right now Smile

MariaDingbat · 21/05/2020 17:23

Hi all! Can I join? It's really lovely to hear all of your good news stories, there's so much scary stuff about having a baby over 40. I'm a little behind you all at 11+3 but I'm 40 and this will hopefully be my first (after 2 miscarriages in the last 12 months). It's exciting and terrifying in equal measure but I've had a scan at 10+4 for the harmony and saw a little creature in the right place with a heartbeat so that was amazing! My Harmony test results cane back today and I'm low risk for everything which is a huge relief too so just the 12 week scan/booking to get through next week and I think I might be able to relax a little finally.

Liveforholidays · 21/05/2020 18:02

That's great news everyone. I so wish I'd had NIPT first instead of combined. Despite a low risk NIPT result following a 1 in 13 chance of DS I'm super nervous about delivery in case the baby has an abnormality. Now nearly 39 weeks so it's becoming a bit real. 😬 If only I'd followed threads like this first I'd have known just how many ladies have high risk combined results when they get older! I'd have just had NIPT, had the nuchal and dating scan and probably skipped the bloods. Not long to go now though.... Roll on time!!

Frazzlerock · 22/05/2020 08:26

@Liveforholidays the NIPT is 99% accurate so I would absolutely go with that. I think the NT is only about 80 something% maybe less.

We will be ignoring the NT result. I am looking forward to hearing about your beautiful new baby! I think you will be the first on this group! Grin

Hi @MariaDingbat awesome news for your Harmony! It's such a relief, right?

How's everyone else this morning?

We have just gone public on social media, but did it as sensitively as possible, although I know if will still be painful for some to see Sad
I put the scan pic in the comments so it wasn't in anyone's faces. Still feel awful though as I know how hard it is to see when you're desperate.

Liveforholidays · 22/05/2020 08:31

@Frazzlerock thank you for your reassurance. I have spoken to ARC who are amazing who told me that yes, NIPT does trump the traditional screening. I think I'm just getting to the end of pregnancy nerves.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/05/2020 08:39

Anyone else still feeling terrible?? I was up being sick again in the night. This morning I just feel awful - nauseous and wiped out. Eating takes the nausea away but only for about 30 mins after which it starts to build again. I'm ready for a break now after feeling like this since 5.5 weeks!!

stairgates · 22/05/2020 08:59

Hello Livefortheholidays and Maria :) How exciting that you are pretty much waiting for birth Live!!!

Frazzle, thats fantastic!! I hope everyone is excited as we are for you :)

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/05/2020 09:02

Forgot to say HI! to the new people - sorry! I'm feeling rubbish and a bit sorry for myself!!

Frazzlerock · 22/05/2020 09:15

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I've not had sickness, I don't seem to with any of my pregnancies. But I have had extreme exhaustion during the day and not sleeping very well at night. Also still getting a very dry mouth at night so that keeps me awake, despite drinking all the time!

I thought by 13 weeks the exhaustion at least would bugger off. My preg book said today that I should have new energy by now Hmm and also not be showing yet - double Hmm

Frazzlerock · 22/05/2020 09:16

@stairgates yes all our friends know the struggles we've had so they are super pleased for us Grin

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/05/2020 09:45

@Frazzlerock hahahahah energy...seems like a distant memory now!! My legs ache walking up the stairs and getting one job done a day is an achievement! Tbf with my other pregnancies it's usually 15 weeks that I start feeling better. Have already eaten salt and vinegar hoola hoops this morning! 🤣

Sheera1 · 22/05/2020 09:46

Morning all.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 Inam in your camp too but fin in the mornings and feeling nauseous from about 3pm onwards. Eating helps but hard to find something that is palatable. I have been eating ice poles and these really thin breadsticks from Sainsbury's which are really nice. Normal breadsticks are yuck for some reason 😀.

I am waiting for it to stop. I did get a day I was fine other than very tired but then was nauseous the whole next day.

Waiting for this double energy to happen 😀.

@frazzlerock you totally deserve everyone to be really happy for you. Even people struggling will if they know your story.

@MariaDingbat hello and for you and Penny wonderful news for you both on the results. Even though still waiting NIPT I am so glad I did it as sounds I am likely to get a high NT with age and hopefully it will be ok or at least I would know. NT test sounds so useless esp over a certain age. I can't imagine having an amnio or CVC with a high risk NT score and then miscarrying when an NIPT could have told you all was fine. You would think the NHS would do it for older mums to be.

@Liveforholidays so exciting you are nearly there. I hope you can take some comfort from people on here who got high NT results but NIPT was super low. You will just love that wee baby no matter what. Sorry if you said already but are you giving birth naturally or are they asking to take you early or anything?

My brain can't retain any info at the moment 😀🙈. Anyone else having to keep scrolling the thread trying to remember who everyone is and to comment. I know what I want to write and then when I fo it I can only remember one thing at a time and have to keep scrolling. Probably need to start writing it down. Lol.

Hope everyone else on the thread are doing well. X

Hi everyone can I join?

I’m 40 and pregnant with my first - 30 weeks, baby due end of July.

I’ve been put under consultant care due to my very great age Grin. Only met my consultant once and it was a bit grim, she basically scanned my notes for all of 10 seconds, barked at me that I’d be induced early and sent me on my way. Since then I’ve spoken to community midwife and am reading a lot - signed up for the Positive Birth Company Digital Pack and also got the positive birth book by Milli Hill I think, and am learning I don’t have to accept an early induction. I’m not ruling it out but I need to get my big girl pants on and start questioning a bit more and I’ll make a decision at the time based on what’s happening with me and baby then. Have a growth scan on Tuesday and then every couple of weeks.

This has been a pretty straightforward pregnancy really. I had a few bleeds early on, the last one being the day after my 12 week scan, and so had a couple of EPU scans and a private one on Christmas Eve when I just felt like I needed the reassurance to be able to get through Christmas and then our honeymoon. (We got married 22 Dec). I felt shattered in the first 16 weeks or so and a bit ‘under the weather’ but very little nausea. Actually started to get a little bit of nausea only just now in the last few weeks, along with shocking heartburn. I’m getting a bit achey and struggling to sleep a bit more now.

Loving reading everyone’s stories and seeing scan pics!

stairgates · 22/05/2020 10:05

Welcome AliasGrape :) We may be due around the same time, Im officially 1st week of August but again possibly helped to start early as we are old biddiesGrin

Onlyreading, my breakfast was salt and vinegar crisps here too, it was the last pack and they were just calling to meGrin

Sheera, ikwym about keeping up with everybody, I join threads and then it gets away from me, gonna try and keep up with whos who and where in pregnancy in this one!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/05/2020 10:09

Hi @AliasGrape your experience of the obstetrician is similar to my experience female ones I've met in the past. I've found the male obstetricians to be far more willing to discuss things and have more compassion! Weirdly I've only met a couple midwives who haven't been lovely!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/05/2020 10:12

@stairgates good house if breakfast! I'm dying to eat something "proper" but everytime I try I throw it up 😖 and I can't eat anything with onions in or chilli in when I'm pregnant. Garlic I always have a problem with pregnant or not. Good job we are all pregnant on this thread because I'm not selling pregnancy here!!!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/05/2020 10:12

Choice not house!!

Liveforholidays · 22/05/2020 10:21

@Sheera1 I'm booked for an induction at 40 weeks due to my age. 🙄🙄 Consultant was pretty negative about my age which I was very annoyed about. I had to go for a night's observations last Friday as I had high blood pressure picked up at a midwife appointment. The consultant wanted me to be induced there and then!! I put my brave face on and asked if I could be monitored first. Blood pressure soon came down, baby all fine and a week and two check ups later bump is still here. Be prepared to have to argue your case for not being induced if you don't want to be.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/05/2020 10:27

@Liveforholidays if they were negative about your age goodness only knows what they'll make of me at 44!! 😳

AliasGrape · 22/05/2020 10:27

Thanks stairgates - that’s good to have someone due the same time. My official due date is 30th July.

onlyreading - well I’d say I’m glad I’m not alone but it’s a bit sad that it’s a common experience really! I waited ages for the appointment and I know the clinic was packed and running very late so I’m trying to give the benefit of the doubt! I don’t know if I will have that consultant every time or it varies or what.

All this talk of crisps is making me hungry! Though I’ve been all about the sweet things and biscuits mainly this pregnancy (and always to be fair). I’m trying to have a reasonably balanced day food wise today but I say that every day and am still on the digestives by 11!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/05/2020 10:28

Agh - sorry - @Liveforholidays thought you were one of the others who's only 40! I am pretty ancient it would seem at 44 though! 🤣

AliasGrape · 22/05/2020 10:31

Frazzlerock I remember my sister in law telling me she started to feel really well by about week 14, for some reason I clung to that and was most disappointed when I still felt like a pile of shite by 14, 15 and possibly 16 weeks. It definitely got better and whilst I never got the ‘glow’ I was looking forward to, I have felt pretty well for a while now, until the last week or two when it’s been back to bleurgh, though touch wood so far still not as rotten as the early weeks.

Liveforholidays · 22/05/2020 10:32

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I was 40 on 12th May so only just 40. When I tried to explain this to the consultant she said that 40 is the cut off. You're either 40 or your not! I've accepted the induction will happen on 1st June though, have two sweeps booked for next week to try and get things moving naturally.
