Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

@footprintsintheslow we were supposed to see our friends for a garden get together but Glasgow has horrible weather just now but I'm sort of glad as I feel too all over the place to socialise I'm just really really tired as I'm not sleeping to well at nights ... xx

@Frazzlerock and @footprintsintheslow I do have a slightly more special babygro, but it’s in newborn size, and just like frazzle said if this baby is as big as they’re predicting then it won’t fit anyway! Nor will the other 600 vests and babygros we seem to have acquired/ had given to us. Which is a shame, particularly as I’ve spent the last 3 days washing and sorting them all 😂

We have about 5 x 0-3 month vests, a couple of 0-1 month babygros and then a load of 6-9 month stuff that’s also been passed on. So I think I need to do some more shopping!

@onlyreadingneverposting8 thank you! I did indeed have a little lie down and did get some movements as a result.

@stairgates they’ve talked about induction from 39 weeks. I’m reluctant to be honest but open to it if needed, just playing it by ear for now. Next growth scan on Tuesday so we’ll see.

Oh my goodness guys I had an absolute meltdown earlier. DH made homemade pizzas and was stupid enough to make some kind of mild comment/joke about me eating mine quickly and I absolutely flipped. I just lost it, shouting at him and crying and acting possessed. He’s very sorry now and I think a bit terrified! Least he won’t make that mistake again! I really don’t know what came over me, it’s like PMT times a thousand.

@Clarkel1 just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and will keep everything crossed for you for Monday. Its horrible that they are leaving you to stress all weekend. Much easier said than done, I know, but try to take some time to relax and think positive thoughts. Let us know how you go!

I love the links to the baby grows and bras. Never heard of either of those brands before. I feel nowhere near ready to start to buy things but totally sense the excitement of girls that have done and its given me a tiny glimmer of excitement! Think I'll wait until after 20 wks before I think about buying anything.

Also get the movement worries. Even though I'm only 16 weeks ish, I've definitely felt little thumps on and off for a couple of weeks, but the last few days nothing. Keep telling myself it's just really early days. Trying to not let my mind run away but it's so hard!

Hi all, hope you don't mind me joining this thread. I'm 40 and having my first baby, I'll be 41 when the baby arrives. I'm 21 weeks and everything has gone well apart from one scare at 16 weeks when I started bleeding and ended up in triage. Thankfully everything was fine with the baby but they never got to the bottom of the bleeding just said it could've been a number of things.

I feel like there is so much I don't know about having a baby then bring a parent and find these threads really supportive and helpful in sharing worries, our journeys and advice xx

My the time is dragging for me, 10 wks today and I’m getting a bit anxious now about what news the scan will bring. I think maybe I should’ve gone for a viability scan now as 10 wks today and I cannot accept or believe I’m pregnant especially because if my age. Scan came through for the 17/7 so not long now I guess but I’m starting to send myself a bit doolally with the uncertainty. I’m having constant nightmares that they scan me and say there is nothing there, or a reoccurring one that they say it’s cancer not a baby, horrible dreams. My partner keeps saying he doesn’t feel like it’s real either. Roll on reality and whatever that brings.

@AliasGrape oh dear, hormones are taking over aren't they! I can 100% sympathise! If its any consolation, I went nuts yesterday after the whole school work debacle. I totally fell apart in front of the DC and poor DP had to pick up the pieces. I think DS1 has realised he really needs to get his act together!

@Celibacydidntwork yes time really does drag in those early weeks. I feel like time has now sped up a bit which I'm pleased about. I don't want to wish this pregnancy away as its my last, but at the same time I just want to get to the end and see my alive and healthy baby.

I've just ordered wallpaper for the baby's room. It might be full of crap but at least it will have a nice wall! Haha.

Another job for DP then who is currently painting the DC's bathroom!
He's also got to fit three new windows and decorate the boys bedrooms and fix a massive hole in the utility. The list is endless. He won't let me help though. Pretty sure I could pick up a paintbrush without straining myself!

@Frazzlerock @Countingblessings thank you, had awful stabbing pains last night about 1am I actually thought I was going to need an ambulance 🙈 or at least my husband was 😆 I feel not too bad today, still a ripping pain in my left hand side I am really constipated as well which I don't know if that's having an input, I've taken some laxido but that doesn't really work for me so any suggestions welcolme . I am definatly feeling the baby move today again, can feel it quite strong like taps under my skin. So that's reassuring ... how are you all today? I was in such a sorry state last night crying at everything! Just even looking in the mirror 😐 although that's not surprising as I'm still sporting an overdue lock down hair Doo! 😀

Yup was going to suggest lactulose too. Worked for me after my c section. Sorry you're in so much pain @Clarkel1 but positive that you can feel the baby. Really hope they can give you some answers on Monday, cant expect you to just go on like this.

That wallpaper is lovely @Frazzlerock ! I used wall stickers to decorate my girl's room. Think the company was called enchanted interiors or something like that. Think I'll do the same this time.

I actually have some tree wall stickers that I bought when we were expecting our first lost baby, but that was 4.5 years ago now and I've gone off the idea so I think I'll sell them or give them away.

@Clarkel1 you really shouldn't be in so much pain, for your comfort mostly! Maybe it is constipation causing it. Great news you're feeling baby move! Can you tell him or her to have a word with mine? 😂

@Clarkel1 are you possibly having round ligament pain - it is REALLY painful!! Round ligaments are the main ligaments holding the uterus. I've put a link in, in case you haven't heard of it or for others.

I've had an emotional breakdown this morning over running out of bread. Which led to crying over being sick of thinking about what to eat and not wanting to do that everyday for THE REST OF MY LIFE! I'm over it all now though lol.

@Clarkel1 - great news that you can feel the baby moving

I had some not great news yesterday - swabs came back positive for group b strep which means they recommend antibiotics in labour and a hospital birth (i had signed up with the home birth team and had hoped to at least start off here). It feels a bit self indulgent to be upset about it since everyone says it's not that big a deal, but it took me ages to get into a positive mindset about labour and this has really burst my bubble and set me off thinking about all the other things that could go wrong . Plus the big positive for a vaginal rather than c section birth (which I was also considering at the start) is all the good gut bacteria that the baby gets from the birth canal - she won't get any of that now as it'll all be killed off by the ABs

Had a cry about it yesterday and hoped I'd feel better today but still quite stressed.

@PregnantPorcupine not knocking c sections (I've had one and would have one again without a worry) but you still have some advantages with a vaginal birth over a section. 1. The baby has its lungs squeezed coming through the birth canal and therefore doesn't usually suffer from mucus having to come out after birth. My c section baby was absolutely full of mucus and it really affected her ability to feed feed. 2. If you intend to breastfeed the drugs given during a c section can affect how long it takes for your milk to come in. 3. Unless you have forceps or something unforeseen happens (my forceps recovery was much more PAINFUL than my c section) you'll recover much more quickly from a vaginal delivery than a c section.
Even though you may not feasibly be able to have a home birth now due to the antibiotics requirement there's no reason you can't ask for an early (6 hour) discharge. I was going to do that last time but missed it by a few hours. Went in at 5pm to be induced, had my waters broken at 6:15pm (no pessaries) delivered at 11:45pm and was discharged at 11:30am.
