Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

@Sheera1 Ahh well that will be lovely, silver linings indeed! Still a pain in the arse nonetheless. Do you have to travel far?
I'm dreading them telling me they didn't get enough sample. We would have to travel an hour into London from Kent and I really don't fancy that. Especially as the parking was horrendous last time. DP thought he'd have to drive around and leave me in there on my own, as he dropped me off outside. Luckily he found a space and made it into the clinic on time

@Realladymarmalade I haven't joined any ante natal clubs this time as everytime I've joined I've had to leave, which has been really shit. I feel it's a bit late now so I will stick with this one I think! As daft as it is, because age doesn't always make a difference in friendships, but those ante natal groups often have mega young women in there who I don't have much in common with. Is that bad? Blush Plus they all seem so naive to what could happen in pregnancy and I can't cope with it. I feel like shaking them! Grin

@Realladymarmalade I've always had Bugaboos. I know they're expensive, but they really are worth it. I had them with both DS (the old Frog which lasted for both boys 4 years apart, and Bee. I was also a childminder when I used to live in London and got through a lot of prams, and found that no other pram compared to Bugaboo. A few years have passed mind you, so I'm sure prams have become more competitive. I think I will stick with Bugaboo though as I know them well. I like the Fox 2. I don't work for Bugaboo btw! Grin

I had another massive bleed last night. Not had one of those for 4 weeks. It was (TMI) very dark brown though and the doc said last week it would either dissipate or make its way out, so I'm not too concerned, especially given what this little one has been through so far and survived. Plus, once again zero pain, and no clots this time. I am really hoping that is it now, like it emptied itself (fingers crossed)

Frazzlerock · 21/05/2020 07:51

Oh and we told the boys last night. My bump is getting so big I can't hide it anymore - I have a very short waist and always show very early. Even baggy maternity tops couldn't hide it! Mad for 13 weeks.

They weren't terribly excited but happy. I think it's because they know what could happen, they're apprehensive. I asked my youngest (11) what he thought. He looked at the scan pics and said "I like the 'prune belly'" Confused So I guess that's as much as I'm getting out of him Grin

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 21/05/2020 08:09

Hope you're ok@Frazzlerock after the bleed 🤞🏼for you that that was the last of it!! We haven't told our kids yet ...although my teens must know because I have a bump - they've not said anything though!!
I'm floored again this morning - have had a bad night feeling sick and have been sick again this morning. Worst morning for a few days - evenings are still bad anyway.

WhatWouldPennyDo · 21/05/2020 08:14

Hello,
Can I join you, please? I’m a relative spring chicken at 37, but still classed as an ‘older mum’. First baby after many years of trying. Due mid October. 20w scan coming up soon so just hoping and praying everything will look ok then I hope we can start to enjoy my pregnancy rather than feeling so anxious about it.

DufferedUp · 21/05/2020 08:22

Marmalade - no but I read the Sept one as the Aug one was full of people due at the start of Aug so was closer in stage to Sept people.

Frazzle- you were on my birth club chat originally so it's really good to see you here. I think we've been on the same group a few times (I've been under different names) but we both kept having losses.

I'm eyeing up the Bugaboo Fox 2 but am determined to hold out and see it in person first.

stairgates · 21/05/2020 08:27

Oh no about the bleed Frazzle:( Hopefully that is the last of it, all cleared out! I had a bleed on a previous pregnancy and all went smoothly:)

No pram advice to give as we've generally had doubles over the years, this is our longest gap between babes, littlest is 4 so out of the pushchair. May take Frazzle suggestion and keep my eye out ofr a bugaboo type :)

stairgates · 21/05/2020 08:28

Hello Penny :)

3isthemagicnumber3 · 21/05/2020 08:31

Hi Penny, you are due around the same time as me. My due date is 16th October and my 20 week scan is a week today (Thurs).

WhatWouldPennyDo · 21/05/2020 09:03

Hi everyone! Thanks for the welcome @stairgates.

@Frazzlerock - hope everything is ok Flowers

@3isthemagicnumber3 - due the day after you Smile My scan is a little later though, 1st June. Will be thinking of you, hope everything is ok with the little one.

3isthemagicnumber3 · 21/05/2020 09:07

17th Oct was my original due date but they moved me back a day at my 12 week scan. Same to you Penny, hope all goes well at your scan too. So excited about mine, but also nervous about what could go wrong.

stairgates · 21/05/2020 09:23

Will you ladies with nt scans soon be finding out gender or waiting til birth :) If you will be finding out before hand and you dont already know it, then have a look at the nub theory and see if you can catch a glimpse of babies nub during the scan! I know its not the most important thing but fun to try and do :)

Frazzlerock · 21/05/2020 09:43

@stairgates I didn't think to look for the nub at the actual scan, I think I was so amazed that baby was alive that it didn't cross my mind at the time, and I don't think my scan pic actually shows the nub. I was sooooo tempted to send my pic off the the nub theory experts (can't remember the website now) then stopped myself!

We really want to wait to find out the sex at birth. I'd love DP to tell me. But I agree it is still loads of fun guessing.

stairgates · 21/05/2020 10:03

Exactly this Fraggle :) Just seeing little ones in all their little perfectness is just amazing isnt it! It will be lovely for DH to announce at birth, it just cant come quick enough can it! But at the same time dont want to wish the time awayGrin

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 21/05/2020 10:57

@Frazzlerock that was me too! I hardly took any notice of the scan tbh I was just so relieved there was still a heartbeat! I then talked rubbish to the sonographer and had to apologise for talking too much 🤭

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 21/05/2020 11:01

Now...2 days later all the anxiety has kicked back in. I had my consultants appointment come through this morning and it had me in a tail spin again. DH said to me this morning..when do you think you'll start feeling more confident about all this...I was like... "eeerr when it's born!"

Sheera1 · 21/05/2020 11:51

Morning all.

Hello to Penny!

@Frazzlerock the bleed must be so scary. Hope it has settled. Will look into the bugaboo. Been years for me since a pram. I went through a few as hated them all. Ds never liked to lie flat as a baby. Always wanted to be looking and then after 15 mins would want to be carried so ended up taking baby Bjorn everywhere with me. Lol.

In the end I liked the maclaren XT I think it was called. I bought a lot 2nd hand as refuse to pay crazy pram prices. Will prob do the same. A system to start with that will allow the car seat to clip on as that was a necessity!

I agree with you @onlyreadingneverposting8 that I don't think I will ever be calm.

Had my redrawing of the blood sample and they did a really lovely long scan. Honestly they are so nice. My nhs scan was really clinical and a bit unfriendly tbh. But maybe just the way I was feeling.

Unless the baby is moving I can not tell so panic till the scan lady says all is fine.

Baby seems to be not a morning person which will fit in well so was happy a sleep. Is facing the scanneith hands up as if saying don't shoot. Looks like a wee alien. Lol. Measuring 13 weeks +6.

@stairgates I think we might wait for gender. I could have asked them to check with the NIPT test but we decided no. Think if all is not ok we would rather not know? Might see at the 20 week scan. I found out with ds.

@Realladymarmalade I haven't joined any other groups. Some of the month of due date threads are so massive and I can't keep track. Xx

WhatWouldPennyDo · 21/05/2020 12:02

We’re going to wait to find out the sex, however I will probably try to have a peek anyway!

Glad you’re all keeping well in what is a very weird time to be pregnant!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 21/05/2020 12:23

I'm still 50:50 on finding out the sex. I know my DH will want to know and my younger kids. Part of me just wants to know now and part wants the surprise at birth.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 21/05/2020 12:24

I've joined a couple of thread (one by mistake 🤦🏽‍♀️). I like this one because we are all a similar age (it's probably wrong to say that!!) - I certainly felt quite old in the antenatal department on Tuesday...😳

sk283 · 21/05/2020 12:40

Hi
I'm 40 with a 15 month old ds and just got a BFP for a much wanted second. Although now scared and excited about the next 12 months.
Looking forward to following your stories

X

3isthemagicnumber3 · 21/05/2020 13:53

sk283 Congratulations!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 21/05/2020 15:54

@sk283 many congratulations! X

Frazzlerock · 21/05/2020 15:56

OH MY FREAKIN GOD just had Harmony results back and they came back beautifully.
All three chromosome issues came back as a less than 1 in 10.000 chance. I never imagined it would be THAT low at my age 😱
