I agree with the pains and twinges. I've had such a low energy day today, had a 1hr30mins nap earlier and I still feel wrecked. Eaten so much today as well trying to give myself energy but instead jsut feel fat and tired 😂.

Don't know how you guys managed to keep it quiet past the 12 week scan, I couldn't wait. Had the scan Tuesday and everyone we know knew by Wednesday night! Couldn't wait to tell people, I'm usually an open book with my family and friends and by the end the secret was getting me down I love being able to talk openly with people.

Is there anyone you haven't told yet or are putting off telling?
We have a group of friends who we met last year around where we live (we've moved twice so most of our friends are in the previous towns).
They consist of 3 couples and none of them want to have kids, one of them is very anti baby and makes comments if we see kids out and about. As a result most of our activities involve alcohol.
It's a shame as I know we will likely lose them when the baby is here but hoping I'll make more friends from the NCT classes and other groups I join. Luckily due to lock down we've been having virtual quizzes with them where I pretend to drink 😂

djmbaker · 21/06/2020 20:16

@Natt99 I was really worried about telling a friend of mine. She claims we are best friends but I was really nervous.. our relationship sounds like yours, very alcohol oriented and she HATES kids. She can't understand why we want a child at all.
Anyway... I told her and she hasn't spoken to me since... 😬

djmbaker · 21/06/2020 20:19

I pressed send too soon.... sorry... what I wanted to say was, anyone who stops being your friend because your having a baby then you don't want them around you I guess. People show their true reasons for being your friend when things happen.
I'm thinking of joining NCT groups and see if I can find a new group of friends too 😂

Natt99 · 21/06/2020 21:07

Oh no really sorry to hear that @djmbaker that's horrible as it's not as though you'd always bring your baby out so you could still meet up without him/her, people are so shortsighted. Also a true friend should be happy for you! Will you say anything to her about her not talking to you?
Totally agree they're not real friends if they don't accept the baby. I'm not too bothered as we've only known them a year so not like we've got loads of history. You never know we could be pleasantly surprised, will tell them soon.
I'd recommend booking nct asap if you can. The one local to me booked up already so I had to book slightly out of town. The classes only take 8 couples x

djmbaker · 21/06/2020 21:22

@Natt99 ohhh wow okay I will!! I will get onto that. Thankyou.
To be fair, she may surprise me but right now.. I'm not shocked at all by her reaction. I think she's been worried for a while that my relationship is going to progress quicker than hers so I think this may be the end.. however she still wants me to do her nails??? So we shall see when I see her for those 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I HATE awkward situations so I hope it will be ok.
Yep you never know, people who I didn't expect to really care about me being pregnant have been overjoyed.. you just never know!! I've become quite good friends with a client of mine as we are both pregnant and I didn't ever think she liked me much but I'm going to her house for coffee this week so you just never know 😍 hope it goes ok with your friends tho!! Remind them.. you can still have the occasional boozy night with them, I think people forget having a child doesn't mean your locked in your house until it's 18 😂😂

Natt99 · 21/06/2020 21:33

@djmbaker no probs, I signed up for an early years one too which is for new born babies. However, if anyone's ever watched "workin moms" on Netflix, I keep thinking it'll be like that 😂
That's weird about the nails. Hate people like that, someone's else's happiness shouldn't detract from yours! Let us know how it goes x
I felt bad about telling one of my workmates as he and his wife have had failed IVF but he was happy even though it must be so hard for them.
That's good you're making new friends already! Your babies can hopefully be friends too 😊

Marshmallow1102 · 22/06/2020 10:00

Hello lovely ladies! Sorry that I've been absent for so long, I've just been too exhausted to keep up with the chat, and work was super busy for a while too!

My nausea has been gradually getting worse instead of better as I've entered second trimester, doctors prescribed new anti-sickness tablets a few days ago but not sure if they're helping! I'm now 15+2 and just been physically sick for the first time 😭 don't really know what to go with myself, I'm struggling to eat very much! Thought it was supposed to get better not worse!!

Glad to see so many familiar names still active here, nice to know that you're all doing OK! 😊

december2020 · 22/06/2020 11:33

Does anyone else's family live abroad? Are you considering visiting them at all?

I'm feeling a little conflicted as I'd love to go visit my family for a week or so in September (Covid life there has gone back to pretty much normal, seeing friends restaurants now open etc. with very few cases).

However would it be absolutely ridiculous to even consider flying there and back with the pandemic and being pregnant? As of course after a certain month flying becomes a no no and to not see them till 2021 feels so far away.

makingababy · 22/06/2020 11:43

@december2020 my family are abroad, I’m from the states but have been in the UK for 12ish years.

I think it depends on where your family is, how long the flight is and what the outbreak is like where you’re going. I personally would love to see my family but won’t be going back - no idea what their outbreak could be like in Aug/Sep so don’t want to waste the ticket money if I decide not to risk it. It’s also a long haul flight, and I don’t want to take the risk of close contact with others for that long, even if I am wearing a mask for 12 hours straight. Also wouldn’t want to catch Covid in the states as pretty sure travel insurance wouldn’t cover it without a massive premium and US hospital bills are no joke.

So this will be the first time I’ve ever not seen my family for a whole year - or more! 😕 gutting but protecting the bump is more important and the US is just too out of control.

Bumble84 · 22/06/2020 11:51

I love everyone’s crochet Granny squares! I have tried crochet but I find it soo difficult. I much prefer cross stitch. Every one of my friends slags me off for it but I’m glad I’m not the only person under 70 that likes embroidery!

calipoppy · 22/06/2020 12:04

@Marshmallow1102 so sorry to hear about your nausea, that must be awful when you'd been waiting for it to get better! Did the doctor give any explanation or any idea of how long it might last? Thanks

ElsaCC · 22/06/2020 12:06

Most of my family are in Portugal. My dh cousin is getting married in September and we booked to go there for a week, so far the plan is the same but we are keeping a close eye on the rise of covid cases there and will decide closer to the time if we are still going or not. I'm planning to tell my side of the family after the 16th weeks scan so I'm pretty sure if we do go it'll be a very busy week visiting everyone on both sides of the family

LoveSunshine01 · 22/06/2020 12:07

@december2020 my husbands family is based in Italy, we're planning to go in August. Not too worried as there don't seem to be any particular concerns about covid in pregnancy. Not sure how I would feel about going in the third trimester though.

Only thing that has stopped us booking flights is the quarantine requirements afterwards mean my husband won't be able to work for 2 weeks afterwards... we think it will be cancelled by then but it's a gamble...

december2020 · 22/06/2020 13:11

It's so tricky isn't it @LoveSunshine01 @ElsaCC @makingababy ! The current flight is just under 3 hours, so not awful! I'm just on the fence of what is the best thing to do.

Oh that's hard @makingababy - I used to do a lot of long haul flights to see family and I'm totally with you on protecting the bump in that circumstance. Thank god there are video calls to at least see them all digitally 💖

We don't live close to family or friends at the moment so going a little loopy with not being able to see anyone at all.

emmalily9 · 22/06/2020 15:35

@Marshmallow1102 I'm so sorry to hear that you're suffering so much still.

@december2020 as for going away, we're meant to be going to Italy at the start of August and we're still undecided what we're going to do about it if we're told we can go.

On another random note, does anyone else get a pain, around where you'd expect period pains, when they sneeze? Or am I just weird 😂

Bumble84 · 22/06/2020 17:00

@emmalily9 I get that when I sneeze, or just off centre a bit. I’ve found if I lean forward and sneeze I don’t. I’ve been sneezing tonnes thanks to damn hay fever!

Has anyone looked at prams?? It’s a minefield! I just want something unisex that isn’t shoogly and fits in my car. The price range is incredible, I mean how much better can one be than the other???

PocoyoandEllie · 22/06/2020 17:24

Hi all, I am still here just been quiet as been so tired and still so sick some days 🤢 I still haven’t told work, done an announcement or told anyone really other than my immediate family. Not even told DS until 20 week scan! Me and DH are finding out the sex (hopefully) at a private scan in 2 weeks and I am thinking of getting a canon or something so we can reveal to DS if all ok at 20 weeks. I have been binge watching working moms after DS goes to bed and I am hoping to make a whole new bunch of friends who are like them 😂 hoping baby clubs/soft plays etc will be at some form of normal by mat leave 🤞🏻

djmbaker · 22/06/2020 20:45

@emmalily9 I get all sorts of aches and pains like that. I have had loads of weird cramps and twinges in the past two weeks! All your ligaments and muscles stretching apparently? I even get every now and then weird shooting pains on my bits. All very glam isn't it.

@Bumble84 I have looked at prams! I always wanted a silver cross so l just went straight to looking at those . My sister and friends all had either a silver cross or the bugaboo.. but the prices are insane aren't they. My partners head nearly fell off when I told him 😂😂

emmalily9 · 22/06/2020 20:48

@djmbaker glad (but at the same time not) that we're all in this weirdness together!

Same thing happened when I showed DH silvercross travel systems! I tried to tell him that buying all the bits separately would be astronomical

MaverickDanger · 22/06/2020 20:53

Still here but a little quiet! Got my 16 and 20 week appointments through & just so busy at work that it should fly.

I’ve not told work & have only told two sets of friends. Think I’ll tell work next week & dripfeed it through to remaining friends and family.

A close relative is 2 weeks ahead of me & the entire pregnancy is being played out on Facebook & Instagram. It looks exhausting!

DM is insistent that she buys our pram brand new, even though we’ve said we’d prefer to pick one up second hand & she can save her money. Even when I’ve said she can pay for it & we pick it up second hand - she didn’t talk to me for a week! Trying to find somewhere where we can go and test a few out, no idea what we are looking for.

Short of a few clothes, a next to me crib and a travel system, I don’t think we will buy anything more until he/she arrives.

DH’s family are all in Australia so some may fly over in Jan/Feb but we might go there at some point during my maternity leave.

Nic2908 · 23/06/2020 08:14

Is anyone else finding it really difficult to sleep?? I just cannot get comfy at all. Going maternity shopping today so going to grab a maternity pillow. Any recommendations??

Marshmallow1102 · 23/06/2020 09:02

@Nic2908 I've already given up on my pregnancy pillow 😂 it was too big and got in the way, I might go back to it later when my bump is bigger and needs support! Until then I'm either completely going without or just using a regular pillow between the knees if my hips hurt!

Marshmallow1102 · 23/06/2020 09:09

Had my 16 week appointment yesterday, Midwife just rang me out of the blue!
She didn't really ask me any questions, was more just asking me to turn to different pages in my notes so that she could point out the vaccines I will need and phone numbers that are important etc.
The exciting bit is that she told me as of this week baby is starting to hear, so starting now she wants me and DH to not just talk to baby but to also sing a nursery rhyme, read a children's book and play a song! If we make sure we use the same every day baby will learn to recognise them, it will strengthen babys brain, and when baby is born it will be soothed when it recognises the same sounds it heard in the womb! 👏 Time to buy some children's books!!

LoveSunshine01 · 23/06/2020 10:34

@Marshmallow1102 Wow that is so exciting! What a nice idea! Might have to go to the bookshop later in preparation... You'll have those books memorised by the time the baby is here!
