Hi! It’s nice to find a thread for those due early October! Good to share experiences and be able to relate to others at the same stage as me 😊

NeuroMama · 03/03/2020 10:10

I am really struggling to drink enough too. It's comical because my friends call me the queen of water because I used to drink like 5L a day! Now it's all I can do to chock down enough to prevent dehydration headaches. Adding flavour does not help.

Also have a total aversion to green leafy veges at the moment. I think its quite normal and something to do with bitterness. Poisonous things are often bitter so the body goes off all bitter things to help us avoid them in times gone by.

Exercise has also been a struggle. My main exercise pre-pregnancy was cycling to work in a busy, hilly city (10 mile round trip) and rock climbing - so not gentle activities! I have mostly stopped them because I am feeling so sick and exhausted, but there is definitely a little anxiety too. Currently I am trying to get in a couple of miles walking a day in my commute and that's about it. I am crossing my fingers I start to feel better in a few weeks and I can get a good exercise routine going again. I would like to continue to climb a bit, and add in classes like pregnancy pilates/yoga that I will be more likely to be able to continue as I grow a bump. Being active is something I have always done, so staying fit is important to my sense of self as well as pregnancy and birth being better if you stay active. But yeh, right now I am just trying to survive work and basic hygiene day to day haha

Hi all! Had my booking in appt this morning, it took SO long! They were running 45mins late to begin with (even though it was meant to be a 9am appt...) and then I was in the room and hour and a half as my midwife kept getting pulled away! They’d also lost the form the midwife at the first appointment had gone through with me and sent to them, so had to cover all of that old ground, too... was all good though, just answered a LOT of questions, had my weight and height checked, gave some blood and asked anything I needed to know.
Midwife echoed the last one in saying that I ought to start taking one asprin a day due to my mum having had preeclampsia with me, I’m also due a few extra blood checks due to my ethnic background, another check because my dad has diabetes and a consultant appointment as I broke my coccyx years ago. So a lot more checks but I’m still classed a low risk pregnancy and will be midwife led. Midwife wasn’t happy at all with the idea of paying privately for extra scans (says the NHS machines get checked regularly for radiation levels etc but private probably don’t) and was pretty disappointed in me for having already had one 🙈 He also said flu jab season is over now so I won’t be getting one of them!
I’m now just waiting for the call to get my 12 week scan booked in. He said it’ll be anywhere between 12 and 14 weeks, so a bit of a wait (I’m 8+4 today) but manageable I think, must just keep busy!

@Treacle81 Hope the scan goes well tonight! Sure it will!

@Quiffy that dream (nightmare!) sounds awful! Have you had quite vivid dreams throughout pregnancy so far? I really have - it was one of my first symptoms. Last night I was escaping Nazi Germany on a boat in my dream! 🤷🏻‍♀️

@LexiM day off sounds good - I’m working from
home and am so comfy in my trackies (and on my bed)!

Happy birthday @Indigogirl88! 🥳 What are you doing to celebrate? A few mocktails maybe?

Welcome @KelMcC! How far along are you? First baby? How’re you feeling?

Has anyone sent off for their prescription exemption certificate yet? How long did it take to arrive? I sent my form off last Wednesday and am getting impatient waiting for it as need to book a dentist appt but don’t want to do it until that’s through!

SkyBlue20 · 03/03/2020 13:16

Wow that was an essay, sorry! 🙈

LexiM · 03/03/2020 13:55

@Indigogirl88 happy birthday!! Hope you have a great day.

@skyblue20 That’s really useful, they’ve told me around 1.5 hours for the appointment although must be annoying if the midwife gets called away. My Dad has diabetes so I wonder if I will get extra check too.

Interesting comment on the private scan. I haven’t had any but did read you don’t have to be qualified to do them privately so I do wonder what experience/training they have to make comments to parents on the scan etc.

Did your midwife give you the form at your first appointment?

Spark27 · 03/03/2020 14:07

@skyblue20 my exemption form took about 10 days to come. But you dont get a card any more, you just get a letter (to save money and plastic). The letter says you should show it to get dental care covered, but dont need it to collect prescriptions. If you need to go and dont have it my mw said you can always show your green notes and say you are waiting for it. If you tick the form and it gets checked for fraud they'll see you have one en route so it will be fine. I think with them being paper a lot of people wont have them on them anymore.

Spark27 · 03/03/2020 14:09

@Indigogirl88 happy birthday
I hope you are having a fun day

Quiffy · 03/03/2020 14:13

@Indigogirl88 Happy birthday!

@SkyBlue20 that sounds a nightmare. I'm not sure on the private scans, I didn't mention it to my midwife. However the lady that did my private scan told me it's a good chance she will be doing my NHS scan (I live in a smaller town) as she works Tuesdays and the only other sonographer works Thursdays so will just depend. I've only had an ultrasound at NHS for non-pregnancy related and the machine looked decades older than the machine at my private scan. Your midwife sounds a delight... I'm red and consultant-led and my midwife was super nice about it. I went in thinking I'd get a lecture.

KelMcC · 03/03/2020 14:58

@SkyBlue20 9 weeks tomorrow! Yeh first baby and absolutely terrified! Not been doing too great the last couple of days, proper tired and sick 😞 Can’t wait to get to the 12 week mark when hopefully I start to feel better.

BntTowers · 03/03/2020 15:15

Does anyone else feel like if they blink, that's it they will fall asleep? I'm so exhausted all the time at the moment.
Talking of weird dream, last night I dreamt someone I use to work with but didn't know very well asked me to come up with a recipe for blueberry soup to serve at their wedding. I did, it was awful.

Indigogirl88 · 03/03/2020 18:13

Thanks girlies!

Walking is all I can manage these days on the exercise front. I've been feeling sick and exhausted today so probably wont even manage a mocktail Sad
At least it means baby is brewing nicely

The NHS complained at me having a private scan as well but the machines looked better than any NHS one so not complaining!

I am waiting to hear from a consultant due to my asthma they are classing me as consultant led. I still find it strange how the NHS operate so differently across the country

SkyBlue20 · 03/03/2020 18:15

@lexim I expect you will - I forget what exactly it is (glucose I guess?) but the test is a bit later on, I think he may have said around 20 weeks. Yeah I got the form at my first appt.

@Spark27 that’s really helpful, thank you! I don’t have my green notes as hospital said they’ll keep hold of them until my scan, so they can record my bloods info but there’s no rush for my dental appt, am actually thinking I’ll try and schedule it for the same day as my scan so it’s less time faffing about off work and whatnot.

@Quiffy my midwife was nice really, he was just an older guy who had been in the game for what sounded like 30/40 years and I think a bit stuck in his ways! Pros and cons to someone like that I guess but I definitely didn’t trust his thoughts on my carrying on with yoga - not sure he’d have a clue what you do in yoga! 😂

@kelmcc sorry to hear you’re feeling lousy, it seems to be quite up and down for a lot of us on here so hopefully you’ll get some respite soon!

@BntTowers blueberry soup?! Delicious! 😂 we should write a book with the weird dreams pregnancy brings 😂 I’m with you on the blinking and falling asleep today - I was working from home luckily and had a cheeky half hour nap before as just couldn’t keep my eyes open!

Quiffy · 03/03/2020 19:15

@BntTowers yes! So much so that I’ve just woke up. Your blueberry soup sound interesting...

@Skyblue20 that’s not so bad! Maybe not on the yoga though 😹

@KelMcC it’s like having permanent flu isn’t it? With sickness on the side. Hopefully the second trimester has us blooming

CouscousEvaporator · 03/03/2020 19:15

I found you all!
Happy birthday @Indigogirl88

I’m amazed at those of you doing exercise, strenuous for me at the moment is unloading the dishwasher... haha

Also I work with ultrasound and new machines doesn’t mean better. 😋 Other machines I use at work are reeeally old and they are the most reliable ones we have, patients don’t like them as much though lol.

Got my booking appointment this week, excited to talk to someone like it’s all real 😆

BntTowers · 03/03/2020 19:55

@Quiffy yep, full on veggie stock then a tonne to blueberries, just remembering the dream is making me gip.
Today is the first day in ages I've felt remotely normal, apart from mega painful boobs and a bit of nausea so I decided to go to Zumba as I have been in two weeks. I'm exhausted, but glad I went. Definitely in need of a new sports bra though, the girls have definitely grown (not that they needed to!)
I've got a day and a half of holiday this week, Thursday/ Friday and I'm so looking forward to having some time off!

Treacle81 · 03/03/2020 20:08

Glad everyone seems to have found thread! Just back from scan, measuring slightly ahead at 9+1. Was incredible, seen very active baby and strong heartbeat 💓 xx

@Treaclepie19 yay! That’s wonderful news!

@BntTowers well done on the Zumba. The days off sound fantastic, fed up of this working malarkey 😹

@CouscousEvaporator the appointment definitely makes it feel more real. Bar the feeling like a big pile of poo, it’s hard to imagine there’s a little thing in there growing.

Treaclepie19 · 03/03/2020 21:00

Lovely news @Treacle81 😁

Zaalfruit · 03/03/2020 21:10

@Indigogirl88 Happy birthday !!!

@Treacle81 Omg that is so cute . I had my scan today with the Nhs - are you getting another scan - they are scanning me again in 3 weeks as they said 9+1 is to early . So excited for the second scan

Spark27 · 03/03/2020 21:22

@Treacle81, great scan.

@Skyblue20 never heard of them keeping your notes at the hospital until the 12w scan. I thought you were supposed to keep them on you incase you have an issue and healthcare need to be aware of your details? Saying that mine have been sat in my bedroom for the last 5w as I have so much of DD's crap to drag around i just cant be bothered (2nd pregnancy effort vs. 1st pregnant effort Grin)

EllieGolightly · 03/03/2020 21:24

Hi all

Brand new here, but have been lurking for a few months. Don't understand the weeks + weeks thing... but I think I'm 9 weeks pregnant tomorrow. My booking appointment isn't until 1st April, which was too torturous to wait on so I've booked a private scan this Saturday, I just need to be sure there's someone in there!

Due to travel to Boston on 15th of March, but really unsure about unnecessary travel atm. What would you do? It's only the cost of my flight that we would lose as OH was due to travel for work anyway so accommodation and his flight are covered.

Spark27 · 04/03/2020 06:06

Most horrific weird pregnancy dream ever- I dreamt I was vying for the affections of Boris Johnson against his new gf Carrie. Definitely feeling nauseous now Shock

Spark27 · 04/03/2020 06:25

@Elliegolightly, tricky one on the flying. If you've already got a weakened immune system or respiratory issue I'd reccomend no, but if not it's a personal choice. If you'd be worried the whole time and not enjoy it it might be best to not go. But I think it looks like it could affect the UK quite heavily anyway.
If you are going to lose the flight money anyway I wouldn't cancel the tickets. If the airline or govt end up cancelling flights you might be in for a refund or credit.

Sorry for limited help, just my thoughts
And congrats on pregnancy x

EllieGolightly · 04/03/2020 07:28

@Spark27 Thanks for your advice, the decision ended up being taken out of my hands shortly after I posted! Husbands company emailed to say all non critical travel has been cancelled, to be reviewed again 31st March. I'm relieved it's been decided for me, as I would have worried myself silly reading articles between now and then, and probably would have decided not to go anyway!
