@MrsR16 aw bless you! Thankfully I've never minded needles or blood tests. I should warn you that midwives are basically vampires, and they also take bloods for your 12 week scan if you want the screening. Hopefully you'll get used to it and it won't be so bad each time! That's exciting that it's only about 3 weeks to go til you get your scan :)

The tiredness does get better (I know I'm saying that whilst shattered but that's due to anaemia mostly!). Definitely rest as much as you need to, and also if you're not already try eating smaller meals more often so your energy stays a bit more level :) I found having babybel to take everywhere with me in the first trimester helped!

Thanks ladies...I've got a 1-2-1 with my boss later so I might try and get the courage to mention it if he brings it up.

EltzBee · 15/05/2019 14:18

@Cookie0508 that's a good point, I hadn't thought about it like that! They're being a bit useless around things like that - they've not done a risk assessment at all, I just have a verbal agreement with my manager that I'm not travelling to client meetings and can wfh as required as I've been struggling throughout.

Our HR department is in the US which doesn't help.

I sent through my formal email with when I want to start my maternity leave to them last week, and haven't even had an acknowledgement back yet (as I understood it I had to notify them by 25 weeks, which would be this Friday, so got it in with a week to spare). I've booked two weeks off before my maternity leave and my boss has already approved that, and I put the maternity leave to start on my due date so I don't think they can really argue too much with it in theory...lol.

ChaosMoon · 15/05/2019 14:30

@EltzBee your work has to make reasonable adjustments. That included a review of the traveling you have to do and changes to anything that would be too exhausting. Also, a birth centre visit = antenatal appointment. They have to give you time to go to those. That includes ensuring you can be home in time for an after work one. They shouldn't bat an eyelid and of they do, talk to HR. It is after all a legal requirement to do so.

I hope your consultant appointment goes well @BostonFern. No direct experience but someone in the April babies thread had that and their LO is here and doing well. I'm sure you're still be fine too.

It's so annoying when MN does that @Cookie0508! I'll cross everything for you tomorrow.

So I felt like a traitor having her tongue done tomorrow. She was so smiley and interactive beforehand. It felt like such an abuse of trust to them pin her down and let s stranger put bits of metal in her mouth and perform minor surgery. 😭 It is very minor though and she's already feeding better. And she still seemed pleased to see me when I got back from physio. She's such a sweetie!

ChaosMoon · 15/05/2019 14:33

As usual, I've taken so long to reply that I've missed loads. And largely repeated what @Cookie0508 said. ☺️

Delilah7 · 15/05/2019 14:47

@MrsR16 if I'm honest I'm royally fed up 😂😂😂 hope you're ok xxx

thumper59 · 15/05/2019 14:50

@MrsR16 the tiredness I found the hardest! The nausea was annoying but the tiredness really does zap you!

Cookie0508 · 15/05/2019 15:34

No worries @ChaosMoon and thanks :) Glad she's feeding better now, obviously the feeling of betrayal was short lived! xx

EltzBee · 15/05/2019 15:57

@ChaosMoon aww bless her, glad it was worth it and it's helping though!

My boss has agreed we can play it by ear to see how I'm feeling, and I've told him we have the maternity unit tour that evening for day 2 as well so would have to be back for that even if I did go. So just going to see how I feel - it might be I try and go for the first day perhaps and skip the second day.

Heartburn question - I know a few ladies have been struggling, has anyone found an 'over the counter' or off the shelf treatment that works/helps and is safe to use? I've never had to deal with it til being pregnant and not quite sure how to manage it. Is it tums that are for heartburn?!

mrsof20118 · 15/05/2019 16:19

@EltzBee sure public transport and pregnancy do not mix!
Doing OK this week, feel bigger and getting achy now sat at my desk. I was measuring 30cm at my 28 week scan. Not sure if its just because I'm only 5 ft 1 that there's less room for the bump to go. They said if I go 3cm above my weeks then will have to go for a growth scan. Slightly worried I will have a massive baby but I know the bump measurements and even growth scans aren't always accurate x

Delilah7 · 15/05/2019 16:23

@mrsof20118 I wouldn't worry hun. I'm measuring 2 weeks behind so instead of when I was 29 weeks measuring 29cm I was 27cm. I don't think they mind if it's 2cm either side do they? It's if it's more. I'm worried I'll have a massive baby because I'm 5ft 3 I'm like an 8lb plus won't come out of me! 😂 x

Cookie0508 · 15/05/2019 16:33

@ChaosMoon oops I read it wrong! well hope tomorrow goes well! xx

@EltzBee I've been told rennies and gaviscon are ok. I've not got to the point of trying them yet I've just tried to drink lots to see if that helps.

MrsR16 · 15/05/2019 19:30

@EltzBee aw thank you for your advice! Yeah, I'm not looking forward to being a pincushion. Thankfully, I know when I'm about to go and can warn people in time! 😂

@Delilah7 oh darling, I'm sorry you're feeling like that! I'm doing ok and ten times better than yesterday for sure!

@thumper59 I'm so used to being able to just crack on with whatever i want and not being able to do that is really hard! It's a whole lifestyle change!

So we decided to tell our siblings today! I have 3, DH has 1. It was a mixed bag! Everyone was excited for us! My eldest sister cried (although she had just finished a night shift and was shattered!) 😂 I've always been the baby sister though and she's doted on me ☺️ they'll all be there to support if anything does go wrong which is wonderful xx

Delilah7 · 15/05/2019 19:32

@MrsR16 I'm so glad you are ❤️ it's hard I wanna enjoy the last 8 weeks but I'm just so concerned! Xxx

MrsR16 · 15/05/2019 19:37

@Delilah7 oh hun... that can't be easy! It will all be worth it though! And my mum says the worrying never stops, it'll just be a different kind of worrying! Xx

Delilah7 · 15/05/2019 19:42

@MrsR16 I'm so itchy all the time aswell. I've got cream for it and know what's possibly causing it ( the ICP ) however it's not any better! Feels like itchy blood circulating around my body it's awful xxx

MrsR16 · 15/05/2019 21:06

@Delilah7 OMG I can't even imagine that! You've had it really rough this pregnancy! Xxx

RanchoRelaxo · 16/05/2019 07:40

@MrsEG ah congratulations! That's fab news 💚

Aw @ChaosMoon that sounds horrible but it's definitely for her best interests, at least it was all done quickly and it seems to be helping already!

@mrsof20118 I wouldn't worry too much about the bump measurements, I've had to have growth scans and the difference between the two measurements is funny, according to my bump I am measuring in the 90th percentile but the growth scan says around the 25th percentile! So no not very accurate 😂

@MrsR16 that's lovely :) I loved it when we revealed it to everyone! So special

Well my growth scan the other day went well, she is measuring 3lb 9ozs at just over 31 weeks so she's definitely put on plenty of weight since last time! And he showed me that she has hair (!!) It's crazy what they can see. The consultant gave me the option of being induced at 38 weeks, which I think I will go for, so possibly less than 7 weeks for me to go! To be honest it's really overwhelmed me and I'm feeling a bit scared about it all, think it just seems so real since he said that haha!

mrsof20118 · 16/05/2019 07:45

@RanchoRelaxo must be so nice to see she has hair. Sorry for not remembering but how come they are inducing you at 38? Not long then until you meet your baby x

Delilah7 · 16/05/2019 07:45

@MrsR16 tell me about it haha. I won't have another. Little Ethan's enough 😍💙

@RanchoRelaxo awww what a good weight. Just means they might be diddy hey?! is that what they're concerned about? Xxx

RanchoRelaxo · 16/05/2019 07:56

@mrsof20118 @Delilah7 thank you 😊 me and my husband are short and I was only 6lb when I was born so never expected a huge baby anyway!
At my 12 week checks they found that I had low papp-a which can cause the placenta to fail later on, which is why I've been given the growth scans, but the consultant says if anything were to happen then it generally happens right at the end when I might not have a scan scheduled to check, so he thinks it's only fair I'm given the option of induction, which is good really because I think I would spend those last two weeks just worrying!

Delilah7 · 16/05/2019 07:58

@RanchoRelaxo I'm so glad they're taking care of you at hospital. It's a relief when they do and monitor you closer. I was 6lb 5 and the biggest out of my family! However my OH was 8lb something. Hoping he comes in more at my weight! he's measuring two weeks behind at the moment. Xxx

mrsof20118 · 16/05/2019 08:30

It's good they are monitoring you closely.
I was 5 lb 11 but think my other half was 8lb something.

EltzBee · 16/05/2019 12:19

Eeek, we had a delivery today of most of our nursery furniture - just waiting on the wardrobe in a few weeks. Looks like we'll have to find some time to build the cot-bed and drawers!

When is everyone thinking of starting to wash baby clothes? We've got some big bundles we picked up 2nd hand already, and I want everything washed before I put it away...is it too early to do it or does it not matter about that?!

Delilah7 · 16/05/2019 12:24

@EltzBee I literally done mine a couple of weeks ago so I was either just about 30 weeks or a little under! Xx

EltzBee · 16/05/2019 12:28

@Delilah7 ah cool, I think I'll probably start doing it next month then, if we get some sunny weekends so things can dry outside!
:)

I've just got things in bags in the nursery at the moment but it seems wrong to put things 'unwashed' in to the brand new furniture when we get it built. I guess I can always do a wash and then re-wash it again if I really want to..?! lol.

What did you use to wash things, I've looked online and get so confused between non-bio and sensitive etc! Did you use fabric conditioner?
