It's all becoming quite real. There are four of us due (mixture of mum's and dads) within two months of each other in my corridor at school. The first of the babies arrived this morning. I'm the next one due so it's a good job that my dad is painting the nursery right now although I still have six weeks to go. A bit of a scary thought.

@beebop1983 You need to send me a PM to be added.

I had my introductory health visitor visit this morning. I really don't understand the purpose of it other than for her to be nosy and to push me into breastfeeding which I'm planning on doing anyway. Has anyone else had one but actually gained something from the visit? Mine hadn't got spare copies of the leaflets to give me so told me to take photos of them and apparently the weigh in sessions for baby in this area involve you weighing the baby yourself. I'm assuming they must be really short staffed and lacking funding.

No health visitor with me yet so not too sure what is normal or not

I don't think we have a visit before the birth here. My midwife is doing a home visit on Friday to go through my birth plan so don't know if that's also a way of doubling up on the health visitor visit. I know we do have a health visitor come round after the birth as well as midwives.

It's odd that every area is so different with various policies. They also wanted me to go to a parenting class but they only run it once a month and I can't do that day. They seemed happy that I'm doing nct though. She told me that the midwife will visit until 10 days then after that the health visitors take over until age of 8.

@niclw I got a letter inviting me to call them to arrange a health visitor visit. Since I have various health care professionals in my family and close friends who are keeping an eye on me, I haven't called them.

Oh and in some areas they have basically forced staff who have the required qualifications and experience to double up as health visitors due to staff vacancies and funding cuts. The latter would explain their lack of leaflets/photocopies.

Just got back from midwife appt and it's my turn for a growth scan. I'm measuring two weeks ahead of where I should be. She thinks it's because of the position of the baby though.

My DD has her mw coming to visit in a couple of weeks.

Good luck with your growth scan niclw, my DD had one as the consultant thought she was measuring small, but we think he was just sat "in her back" and he's still bang on track. He was estimated at weighing 4lbs 9oz!

Enjoy seeing your little one again Flowers

@snowy1982 I hope Mondays scan goes well.

My dad and brother are coming over to paint the nursery today and the final piece of furniture is arriving on Tuesday so not too far off being ready. I'll be glad to take all of my shopping out of carrier bags and boxes.

I can't believe that there is only 5 and 3 days till due date. It's getting a bit scary.

@niclw, I have only 4WD and 6 days to due date!! I can’t believe how close it (finally) is either. Furniture and pram are getting delivered on Monday, it’s all getting so real

@snowy1982 Excellent! Time to start building! I've left my dad in the nursery trying to make a screw hole bigger. Did your scan go ok? I'm still waiting for my appt.

Scan went well, still in same trajectory as the previous one. Baby is currently estimated to be just under 6lbs and if continues on same trajectory is estimated to be 8 1/2 lbs by due date, not a small baby but not unusually large either. Comments again about it being a long slim baby due to leg length.

DH is going to be very busy building over the next week Smile

@snowy1982 8 and a half pounds is a good size but definitely not big. Do you have to go back for any more scans?

Report
snowy1982 · 06/08/2018 18:10

No, no more scans, they also told me to tell MW to stop using tape measure at this stage, though last week they measured but didn’t bother to plot it as they knew I was having the scans.

What worried me was she mentioned it did have a slightly big head, she said it like it was a good thing but correct me if I’m wrong but is birthing the head not the worst part!!!

But as sonographer said, it is very rare our bodies will grow something we can’t birth and that shoulder problems are generally linked to GD so I shouldn’t worry

That's good that they said you didn't have to go back. Someone told me about her friend who was told at a growth scan that the baby would be just under 11lb but when it was born it was only 8lb. So who knows how accurate they are. The teacher of my NCT course doesn't think we should even be measured by midwives as they are often inaccurate as well.

itallhappensforareason · 07/08/2018 14:52

Glad everything is well. We have our final growth scan on Thursday, he was estimated at 5lbs 11 at 33 weeks but I'm taking it with a pinch of salt as a lot of people seem to say they are inaccurate. I also don't think midwives should measure - seems a very outdated way to measure to me, surely every woman carries differently anyway. Would be nice if every pregnant woman could have growth scans instead but I guess that would be too much pressure on the NHS.

I'm so jealous of people at growth scan stage I have my appointment at 36 weeks but that's still 2 weeks away! In my area growth scans are offered to all pregnant 🤰 woman at 36 weeks it's something they are trailing:) also then they check the blood flow in from the placenta to the baby!

Is anyone else just so keen to get to the end? I have 6 weeks to my due date but I just want this kid out now BlushBlush
