@itallhappensforareason I'm glad I'm not the only one wanting to get the nursery done. My dad is going to help me paint it so everything I brought is currently in bags and boxes in there. I think I've got most things now. My changing bag arrived today but the only big things that haven't arrived yet are my pram which is currently on order and a chest of drawers which I'm getting from Ikea after painting is done. Other than that it's little bits like nappies and wipes like you x

bluees · 30/06/2018 04:07

@snowy1982 do u want to share list. I have bought some bits. This weekend will get new carpet done. And some kitchen work (floor , taps etc).
M planning to do rest of baby shopping next week.

bluees · 30/06/2018 04:15

@CharXo i am having Braxton Hicks. Init i thought its baby's hand or foot. Bit now getting tightened tummy quite regularly but not painful

itallhappensforareason · 30/06/2018 10:39

What is everyone getting for baby to sleep in? We've got a chicco next to me crib but don't know whether to buy sleeping bags/swaddles/anything else?

snowy1982 · 30/06/2018 12:07

@itallhappens, we went for SnuzPod due to height of our bed. I am going to get sleeping bags and swaddles to see which works best. Depending on size of baby the sleeping bags mightn’t be usable at the beginning

BlueBug45 · 30/06/2018 12:18

I have sleeping bags but I've been advised that due to the size of the baby I will probably need blankets for the first few weeks/months. It also depends on how hot it is when I give birth at the beginning of September what I will use.

niclw · 30/06/2018 12:37

I've just got a Moses basket and am planning on using blankets initially. My house is like a sauna so unless we have a cold September, I'll reassess after baby is here.

CharXo · 30/06/2018 13:15

Has anyone written their birth plan yet? I keep meaning to but I have no idea where to start!! Also when is best to pack hospital bag? The amount of stuff I’ve seen listed I don’t know how I’m going to fit it all in 1 bag! At the same time I don’t want to look like I’m moving into the hospital when the time comes!

snowy1982 · 30/06/2018 15:19

@charXo, have you considered 2 bags, one for things you need for labour and one for after, after one can stay in car until needed.

I haven’t written my plan yet, at my next antenatal class they are discussing them so was waiting until after then, but I did get a book the positive birth book which I found good for birth plans etc

BlueBug45 · 30/06/2018 15:25

I have a sheet in my maternity notes with the title "Birth Plan".

It contains some yes/no questions, checkboxes and a few spaces for comments. Do for example you can check what pain relief you want and state why you don't want students treating you.

ichifanny · 30/06/2018 20:02

Hi folks I’m 28 weeks and struggling a bit in 32 degree heat in Scotland , started to organise babies room walls are white and got pops of bright colours , paying up a bugaboo bee and should hopefully be getting my c section in just over 10 weeks , trying to reorganise whole house and do a clear out . I’m currently off sick from work as my pelvis is dodgy and I do a job where I’m on my feet all day .

niclw · 30/06/2018 20:07

@CharXo I've not started a birth plan yet because my antenatal classes don't start until this week so I'm hoping to pick up a few hints from those.

You can also get tips be download a birth plan template from the nhs website.

itallhappensforareason · 03/07/2018 12:03

Think I will get some sleeping bags and swaddles/blankets then. Our bedroom in particular gets quite warm so will probably not need the sleeping bags straight away but want to feel like I'm prepared and have everything we need!

I've not started my birth plan yet. To be honest I won't really have much of one... I'll be in the main delivery suite at the hospital, not allowed a water birth or to give birth in the birthing centre due to high BMI and therefore a "high risk" pregnancy (although I'm still yet to have any issues). Pain relief - yes please!!! But as long as baby is delivered safely and as considered appropriate by the healthcare professionals then I'm happy. You never know if a birth plan might go tits up anyway due to complications.

I'm going to start my hospital bag this/next week (I'm 31w on Thursday) - going to buy a small suitcase I think which will have my stuff in, and then a separate bag with all baby's stuff in. We went to our first antenatal class last night and they showed an example hospital bag - it was literally a standard sized suitcase so I wouldn't worry about looking like you're moving in!

niclw · 03/07/2018 16:27

First antenatal class tonight with NCT 7 till 10. I've no idea how I'm going to stay awake as I'm struggling now.

Katjolo · 03/07/2018 17:45

@niclw- let us know how to get on at nct

CharXo · 03/07/2018 20:41

@itallhappens a standard suitcase?! Wow!! I’ve started packing a standard sized changing bag for me and then a slightly bigger bag for baby. Had a bit of a scare yesterday with reduced movements so ended up going in to be monitored. Everything fine but it has urged me to start packing just in case!

Katjolo · 04/07/2018 06:28

Oops... I meant how you get on rather than how to get on

SiolGhoraidh · 04/07/2018 12:58

@CharXo

Same happened to me. Had the other half flying round fishing out nighties and changes of undies in case I had to stay in. Didn't bother with baby stuff though - at 29 weeks if he had turned up he would not have been in newborn size clothes and nappies.

Think I'll be packing proper bags for us both this weekend though!

niclw · 04/07/2018 20:38

@Katjolo NCT was good. Just a general getting to know you session with info on labour positions and breathing. Was a bit odd going on my own as neither of my closest friends could do the first one. I'll have someone with me for the rest though.

Katjolo · 04/07/2018 21:14

@niclw- sounds great. I'm looking forward to starting mine in a few weeks

niclw · 05/07/2018 18:26

I've just received a letter about a health visitor visit but it also states that they expect me to attend a preparing for baby/infant feeding workshop. I'm looking at the workshop content and thinking that firstly I've read lots on all of this already and secondly that a lot of the content is going to be covered in my NCT classes. Has anyone else had something similar?

snowy1982 · 06/07/2018 09:32

Had nothing like that yet. Am sure the NCT class is sufficient to cover what they want, so just tell HV you’ve done it/are doing it and am sure they’ll be happy

niclw · 06/07/2018 10:03

@snowy1982 Thanks. I phoned a little bit ago and apparently they only do it once a month and turns out it's when I'm away anyway but they seemed happy that I'm doing nct.

CharXo · 06/07/2018 20:33

Anyone else REALLY bloody struggling in the heat?! I’ve been so sweaty even getting under boob sweat (which is quite amusing as I’ve never had boobs before haha) .. how are you all coping?

niclw · 06/07/2018 22:09

@CharXo I'm struggling with the heat too. I'm used to the under boob sweat but it's the swollen feet and general feeling uncomfortable that I'm finding difficult. I went to an aquanatal class the other day just so I could be in the cooler water. I'm living on ice lollies at the mo.
