Should I refuse Vaccine?

Hi everyone,
I'm just over 28 weeks pregnant and my midwife has asked whether I have been vaccinated for Pertussis yet. I told her I had not as I had read about the Aluminium toxicity in the vaccine and decided against having it. She is being fairly pushy about it and now I don't know what to do. Help please!

I'll be having it, and I'm really not someone who'd have a jab for everything.
To everybody who's had it - are there any symptoms after the injection, like high temp or feeling weak for a few of days? I have my 20 week scan a week before our honeymoon and would like to have the jab there and then...

TonicAndTonic · 03/01/2018 12:00

You seem very keen to poo poo the links other people have posted which suggests you have already made your mind up. So why ask? You aren't interested in what anyone else has to say.

Agree with this - OP, you say you don't know what to do but this thread does read as though you've already decided.

FWIW I agree with all the pp saying have the vaccine, whooping cough kills babies, whereas thousands and thousands of women have had the vaccine in pregnancy without incident. I had it the first opportunity I got.

cricketqueen · 03/01/2018 12:00

My arm was a bit sore after the injection but no other side effects.

user7654321 · 03/01/2018 12:03

Peanutty86 - i didn't have any side effects that i remember, certainly none that affected my day. A week later you should be absolutely fine! enjoy your honeymoon!

This link vk.ovg.ox.ac.uk/pertussis-vaccine-in-pregnancy has some good, reliable information in it.

I believe it is about weighing up the different risks from the different outcomes. If you have the vaccine then Aluminium could be transferred to your baby (note: could. No one in any country using the vaccine has actually experienced this which leads them to the conclusion that the vaccine is safe for mother and baby), but equally your baby could get whooping cough if you don’t get the vaccine. When you look at the incidence of these two things, one is significantly more reported than the other. Which suggests that one is significantly more likely than the other. By not vaccinating you are choosing to prioritise a smaller and much less likely side effect over a larger, more common side effect. Aluminium poisoning from the vaccine is not something which has been reported from the thousands of doses which have been given, but whooping cough incidence is absolutely something which is increased in the non-vaccinated groups when compared to the vaccinated ones.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/01/2018 12:05

“1 milligram equals 1000 micrograms. As I said the safe level is only 5 micrograms per kg of bodyweight so the doses in the vaccine are astronomical compared to what is scientifically proven safe by the US FDA.”

Yes but the safe level of what?

Pure aluminium? Aluminium hydroxide, hydrated (Al(OH)3) and aluminium phosphate (AlPO4) as per the vaccine ingredients? It would be helpful to have links to your sources OP so that we can see what you are looking at

smeerf · 03/01/2018 12:06

I'm 34 weeks and I can't have the vaccine (decided with my consultant due to very very rare personal circumstances) but I'm bricking it, to be honest. I think you're very arrogant to consider refusing it based on some Googling.

M0MY32 · 03/01/2018 12:09

Lol userplusnumbers...I assume the Scientists who conducted the studies which the FDA used to calculate the toxicity of Aluminium in the human body were all wearing their tinfoil hats too!

Get the vaccine op.

Ds was admitted to hospital when he was one for a nasty chest infection as a baby (needed oxygen and an inhaler because his sats were v low and he was starting to turn a touch blue around the lips).

There was a baby on his ward with whooping cough and I will never in my life forget how sick that little boy was.

His cries, his struggle for breath, the awful noise the cough made, the look on his parents faces.

I had never been more glad to receive a vaccine in my life at that point, because it meant my child was less likely to suffer like that one did.

He wasn't even my kid but it was really harrowing (and made me feel a bit daft for worrying so much over ds because even though he was very sick he was nowhere near as ill as that baby)

Shutupanddance1 · 03/01/2018 12:14

M0MY32 - then scientists also understood that aluminum comes in many many different compounds. You clearly don’t.

You haven’t listened to a word anyone has said here. Do whatever you are gonna do.

paulthomasmd.com/2014/09/24/aluminum-toxicity-and-aluminum-in-vaccines/

Here is one of the sources I looked at. There is also a document on the FDA website but I'm having trouble pasting the link

It’s really only worth persevering with this for the lurkers

There is so far no evidence to suggest that the whooping vaccine causes harm - there are sources on this from the NHS and the vaccine information it links to. All those here who have had the vaccine have reported normal outcomes

There is evidence that whooping cough is harmful to newborns. All those who have witnessed or experienced it in newborns have recounted how scary it is and the dangers to life and ongoing health

No one can force you to have the vaccine. You should choose to have it or not have it based on informed consent and in full understanding of the risks either way

RavingRoo · 03/01/2018 12:17

@billywig - no point reasoning with OP. I genuinely don’t think she understands how serious whooping cough is to newborns.

sashh · 03/01/2018 12:19

As it would be injected it would cross the blood / brain barrier.

Why do you think this?

And if you read all the information on the link it talks about aluminium salts in the vaccine and gives the brand names - read all of it, please

RavingRoo · 03/01/2018 12:20

OP Paul thomas is a crackpot. He even thinks paracetamol is bad for pregnant mums and newborn babies paulthomasmd.com/2015/08/24/acetaminophen-paracetamol-dangerous-for-pregnancy-and-young-children/

RavingRoo · 03/01/2018 12:21

He thinks paracetamol causes autism without any scientific evidence!

Trytowin · 03/01/2018 12:22

Think about this please. Are you fed up with not being able to have a medicines/ soft cheese/ pate etc? No ibuprofen, no anti congestants etc. This wound me up so much but there was a risk however small so I accepted it, but also there were medicines that were a no not cos they were unsafe but cos they cannot ethically test. it that wound me up big time with the arse covering especially on a tube of foot cream arghhh anyway I digress...

The whooping cough injection I had no qualms/ no moaning, I'd rather be stuck with a needle than have my baby suffer with whooping cough and it's after effects ( if not fatal) I am at a loss at how you cannot see that it is necessary. When my midwife mentioned it at booking my response was something like 'whooping cough didn't we get rid of that?!' and she responded saying unfortunately it's on the increase again hence why all pregnant women are offered it. What I'm convolutedly trying to say is most things are a no-no in pregnancy (just in case) yet this jab is offered to every pregnant woman. What does that tell you?

Please consider it please

BattleCuntGalactica · 03/01/2018 12:23

Jesus bloody Christ.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/01/2018 12:24

That blog doesn’t even refer to fetuses - it’s about infants receiving vaccines (and I have never heard of him and know nothing of his credentials)

reallyorange · 03/01/2018 12:26

A blog is not a source. Learn how to read medical journal articles for yourself.

lorelairoryemily · 03/01/2018 12:28

Have the vaccine op. It's not worth the risk not to and it wouldn't be offered to pregnant women if it wasn't safe. Imagine if your baby got whooping cough.

reallyorange · 03/01/2018 12:29

Literally anyone can write anything on the internet. I will never understand why people believe stuff just because it's on a computer screen without actually checking primary sources (ok I do, it's because it's easier)

I heard from a credible blog that feeding beefburgers to swans increases the volume of fat in their bodies and helps them to float better.

Coconutspongexo · 03/01/2018 12:30

You seem set in your ways (providing no peer reviewed articles etc) but still set in your ways so I’m not sure why you’ve even posted this? Do you want others to stop having vaccinations?

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/01/2018 12:32

Are you in the UK, OP?

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 12:32

Really that theory apparently applies to otters too!!
