Should I refuse Vaccine?

Hi everyone,
I'm just over 28 weeks pregnant and my midwife has asked whether I have been vaccinated for Pertussis yet. I told her I had not as I had read about the Aluminium toxicity in the vaccine and decided against having it. She is being fairly pushy about it and now I don't know what to do. Help please!

Have it

Loosemoose28 · 11/01/2018 01:49

My perspective is you are relying others vacinnating to protect you and your baby.

What about the people with medical needs or like me do not hold immunity despite multiple attempts to gain it. I am totally non- immune to measles and rubella, I feel I have to rely that those that I work with and those I am in contact with are immune/ vacinnated to help protect me and now my unborn baby.

Do what you want re vaccinations but please just consider those around and perhaps their reasons for wishing you to take a vacinne routinely offered. Have you researched alternatives outside of the NHS. I believe there is a seperate vaccine available where seperate strains of whooping cough can be vacinnated against in private sectors. I may be wrong however as never researched it myself.

Just no. Go do a PhD in immunology and then read the stuff again, maybe you will actually understand it then. In the meantime, trust the advice of the lively scientifically literate professional who all advocate for the use of this vaccine during pregnancy.

MrsMyreton · 11/01/2018 02:18

Cringing at this.

Take the vaccine. Biscuit

huha · 11/01/2018 02:23

I didn't do it for the same reasons as you OP. People have no idea what aluminum poisoning does either Hmm until they've determined scientifically that it won't hurt my unborn child, I'm not doing it.

That last clip? She lost her newborn to pertussis. Don't fuck around.

shhhfastasleep · 11/01/2018 06:11

Loosemoose, anti-vaxxers don't give a shit about their babies dying from a preventable disease so they certainly don't give a shit about immunocompromised people like us.
There, I said it.

MoggyP · 11/01/2018 06:44

"I didn't do it for the same reasons as you OP. People have no idea what aluminum poisoning does either hmm until they've determined scientifically that it won't hurt my unborn child, I'm not doing it."

So does this mean you will not consent to your DC receiving any vaccine containing aluminium?

Also, what will you be doing about the other (and larger) sources of aluminium to which your DC are likely to encounter?

(genuine question, BTW, as it seems illogical to be concerned about minute amounts of aluminium processed by your body during pregnancy, but then expose a newborn directly)

bruffin · 11/01/2018 07:22

Huha

They do have an idea what aluminium poisoning does. They know that it is only long term exposure to large amounts that is dangerous.
Aluminium is just they latest fad of antivaxxer, it was the mmr, then it was mercury and now it is aluminium.
These people are too stupid to understand the basic biology and think they know more than experts in metal poisoning.

nuttyknitter · 11/01/2018 09:37

Why are you even asking the question OP? You've clearly already decided to ignore all evidence, advice and common sense.

Newmummytobe2018 · 11/01/2018 16:05

I had all of my vaccines at 32 weeks and I was fine. I would recommend it better to be safe than sorry!! X

Oly5 · 11/01/2018 16:15

I can’t believe you’re being so selfish. Babies die from whooping cough.... and I agree, I don’t think you understand the science

NooNooHead · 11/01/2018 20:24

What about people like me who are cautious about the vaccine as I have had a very bad reaction to an antipsychotic drug that left me with a drug induced anxiety involuntary movement disorder? I’m unsure about any new medication as I don’t know how I will react, but I would never never want to put my baby’s health at risk.

It is so hard to know what to do. For those who will be saying ‘have the vaccination!’, i would ask whether you would be anxious taking medicine after having had a bad reaction to even just a calcium vitamin pill... it is so hard to decide. My midwife said it is a no-brainer... Blush

NooNooHead · 11/01/2018 20:25

That should read ‘drug induced involuntary movement disorder’!

Lunalovepud · 11/01/2018 20:58

@Noonoohead people such as yourself, with a genuine medical exemption are one of the main reasons everyone else who can, should vaccinate.

Herd immunity will protect you and your family but only if enough people get vaccinated.

BabEmama · 14/05/2021 10:34

Hi. Can i ask if u ended up getting the vaccine? And what kind of pressure u were put under by the midiwife. Also i dont want the vitamin K vaccine as it gave my previous son jaundice. Did u get this?
