Should I refuse Vaccine?

Hi everyone,
I'm just over 28 weeks pregnant and my midwife has asked whether I have been vaccinated for Pertussis yet. I told her I had not as I had read about the Aluminium toxicity in the vaccine and decided against having it. She is being fairly pushy about it and now I don't know what to do. Help please!

My baby has no protection from that dosage of Aluminium. As it would be injected it would cross the blood / brain barrier. It would be passed through my uterus then into my baby's brain! I appreciate that whooping cough is a serious disease and in some cases can be fatal but I don't think there is enough scientific evidence on the efficacy of the vaccine but there is a great deal of scientific evidence on the toxicity of Aluminium?

For fucks sake. It’s 2018

newnamechange84 · 03/01/2018 11:43

I'm not telling you what to do, just telling you what I did. I didn't have the vaccination. My now nearly 5 year old has never had whooping cough. Everything was fine.

M0MY32 · 03/01/2018 11:43

Sash...the info you have provided is useful but does not relate to injected Aluminium which is completely different from ingesting it.

Get the vaccine, the vaccine wouldn't be licensed for use in pregnant women if it wasn't safe. Protect your child from potentially dying from a completely avoidable disease.

I hope to God your baby doesn't get it then.

You are being incredibly selfish OP.

In fairness, most children DON'T get whooping cough. That's meaningless.

That's like saying 'I never wore a seat belt, but I was always fine, so you never need to wear a seatbelt'.

“'m not telling you what to do, just telling you what I did. I didn't have the vaccination. My now nearly 5 year old has never had whooping cough. Everything was fine.”

Oh good. Lucky you.

Creatureofthenight · 03/01/2018 11:48

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think you can carry out clinical trials on pregnant women so no vaccine would say it’s proven to be safe.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/01/2018 11:48

What kind of aluminium are your sources referring to? Pure metal, or a compound? If a compound, which ions, and are those the ones the vaccine exposes you to? How much is transferred to the fetus?

I’m not saying that your sources are wrong or that you haven’t considered these things, but it’s not as simple as your posts here are making out.

The sources i have found show no evidence of problems related to the vaccine, but high risks in a newborn contracting whooping cough. This is why I am having the vaccine

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 03/01/2018 11:49

Are you going to refuse all vaccines after the baby is born OP?

(I think it's a huge huge risk to not vaccinate - not one I'd be willing to take with my kid's health btw)

Creatureofthenight · 03/01/2018 11:49

However from all evidence gathered so far scientists have no concerns about the safety of this vaccine.

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 11:49

I'm due mine in 2 weeks, no way in hell would I refuse it. Have you ever seen a newborn fighting for every breath with whooping cough? Or watched a newborn stop breathing altogether?

You seem very keen to poo poo the links other people have posted which suggests you have already made your mind up. So why ask? You aren't interested in what anyone else has to say. From someone who has experienced whooping cough in a newborn, i think you're being very naive & i hope to god you don't ever have to go through that

M0MY32 · 03/01/2018 11:49

I also note they use milligrams and not micrograms.1 milligram equals 1000 micrograms. As I said the safe level is only 5 micrograms per kg of bodyweight so the doses in the vaccine are astronomical compared to what is scientifically proven safe by the US FDA.

Whooping cough also causes brain damage in infants. From the CDC website: www.cdc.gov/vaccines/parents/diseases/child/pertussis.html

If anything causes of death by whooping cough are underreported - sometimes cause of death may be put down to the pneumonia or seizures caused by whooping cough.

‘Is it serious?

Whooping cough is most dangerous for babies and young children. In fact, babies younger than 1 year old who have whooping cough may:

Need to be cared for in the hospital
Develop pneumonia (a serious lung infection)
Have seizures
Suffer brain damage
Whooping cough can even be deadly. Since 2010, up to 20 babies have died each year from whooping cough in the United States. Most of these babies don’t have protection against whooping cough because they are too young to get the shots.’

SlothMama · 03/01/2018 11:50

No you can't carry out trials on pregnant women but how long has this vaccine been given out for? If there were dangerous side effects then it wouldn't be given. That's what I mean by safe.

Taylor22 · 03/01/2018 11:52

FFS get the vaccine.
Kids die from whooping cough and if your kid gets it and dies then that is your fault and yours alone.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/01/2018 11:52

OP do you need people to say that it is fine for you to refuse the vaccine? Because it is your choice to do so. Most people are saying that they have weighed things up and came to the conclusion that it was better to have the vaccine than not. If you don’t want to be convinced to have it, then no one here will be able to do that. It is your choice.

Curious OP, is your tinfoil hat aluminium too?

The amount not metabolised by your body and passed through the placenta will be miniscule.

Have it or don't, be if you choose not to please stay away from anywhere where other pregnant women or babies are, as there's plenty of evidence about the dangers of whooping cough, but nothing to suggest babies are dying as a result of the vaccine.

Of course I am considering vaccinating my baby when born. I would however be concerned about them having too many vaccinations at one time (for the same reason) so will certainly be spacing them out over a longer period of time and seeking to find single vaccines where possible.

OP posts:
shhhfastasleep · 03/01/2018 11:56

Oh yeah, as well as nearly dying of whooping cough as a baby in the 1960s, I developed epilepsy which has blighted my life as a proven direct consequence of oxygen starvation from whooping cough. It has blighted my life.
But you go ahead, op, because you know better than everyone else.

user7654321 · 03/01/2018 11:56

I wouldn't risk not getting it TBH. The risk of whooping cough is more proven and real, than any unknown risks of the vaccine.

But to be fair, the risk of whooping cough is still reasonably low, so if you are prepared to risk it then go ahead. You will make many choices on behalf of your baby in the coming months and you have to consider each one as it comes - but sometimes its better to just follow professional advice rather than going against the grain.
