Should I refuse Vaccine?

Hi everyone,
I'm just over 28 weeks pregnant and my midwife has asked whether I have been vaccinated for Pertussis yet. I told her I had not as I had read about the Aluminium toxicity in the vaccine and decided against having it. She is being fairly pushy about it and now I don't know what to do. Help please!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LollyLarkin · 03/01/2018 19:10

Bruffin, lovely links. Thank you. I’m a totally pro-vaxxer living abroad and have to pay to keep my DS up to date with the UK vaccination schedule so it’s great to have more information to read! Worth every penny in my opinion.

It beggars belief that this is even a topic that is being questioned and would be answered very simply just by the OP reading some of these articles rather than misinterpreting some seriously questionable sources.

If it was so dangerous so many babies would be ill or die where in fact they do from whooping cough. Y would the NHS give u a vacation that is not safe? What would be the point in them giving it too u? And u would know if was not safe cos would effect so many babies. If u had ever seen a baby with whooping cough u would have the vacation.

What you're essentially saying is that you would rather your child were dead or severely physically disabled than have autism. Even if vaccines did cause autism, which they do not, do not underestimate what it's like to helplessly watch your child suffer, to call an ambulance because your newborn is unresponsive, to hold them for hours while they scream and cough, while nurses tell you that you can't feed them because their little lungs need as much space as possible so they scream for you because they're starving and you can do nothing, when your child accidentally pulls their high flow oxygen and feeding tubes out, and properly removing the strong adhesive stuff from their face to replace it causes them to go into shock, when you've been awake for three days straight but you're too scared to go to sleep in case something happens. Honestly, I wouldn't wish this on anyone, and it was hard enough when I knew I'd done all I could to protect him. I can't imagine how I'd ever get over it if I hadn't.

Crunchymum · 03/01/2018 21:16

If you don't want it, don't have it.

Don't start a fucking contentious and goady thread about it though. That is just not cool.

thaigreencurry82 · 03/01/2018 21:24

I had the whooping cough vaccine today because I don’t want to put my baby at risk of a preventable illness.

bruffin · 03/01/2018 22:59

Diptheria is back in Syria. Dh aunty had when she was 3 and was in an isolation hospital not allowed to see her parents. Left her with heart problems all her life.

lynzpynz · 03/01/2018 23:36

Biochem honours degree here, if I was out with my BFP to my work here I’d tell you what I do too which would add even more weight! I will be taking the vaccine when offered if that helps convince you - have the vaccine.

BashStreetKid · 04/01/2018 08:50

The reality is that OP is essentially crossing her fingers that her baby will be safe because the rest of us will vaccinate. But if we all follow her reasoning and refuse to do so, her baby will then be in substantially more danger. Bit of a dilemma there.

juneisthemonth · 04/01/2018 13:00

If your that strong about not getting it why have you started a post???

It's your choice what you do for you baby. No ones opinion seems to make a difference to yours, so your logic makes no sense.

I found this link very helpful, it's about aluminium in vaccines. It might calm some of your fears, OP.

Also this one. Yes, it's Facebook but the post links to lots of peer reviewed articles dealing with exactly the concerns you've put forward. I know it can be frightening when you are expected to just trust the words of HCPs without reason. The points you made worried me so I did fine research but having read the articles I feel confident about getting the vaccine myself. It may help you to make your decision about yours. All the best x

CrmbleBee · 04/01/2018 17:46
  • some research, not fine research! Silly predictive phone keyboard.
EarlGreyT · 04/01/2018 17:53

She isn't a mum looking for opinions, she's an anti vaxxer trying to propagate their nonsense
^^This.

On the slim chance it’s not this then she’s trying to find people to agree with the decision she’s already made and our input is futile.

Lunalovepud · 04/01/2018 18:01

I am not posting for the sake of the OP as it seems she has made up her mind anyway.

Just in case any other pregnant women stumble upon this thread and are not sure whether or not to get the Whooping Cough vaccine in pregnancy, have a look at this and then decide whether you are willing to take the risk of not having the vaccination.

EarlGreyT · 04/01/2018 18:01

Of course I am considering vaccinating my baby when born. I would however be concerned about them having too many vaccinations at one time (for the same reason) so will certainly be spacing them out over a longer period of time and seeking to find single vaccines where possible

What a great idea. You’re apparently so worried about side effects of vaccines that are known to be safe, that you’ve decided to use single vaccines which are unlicensed and for which there is far less data on their safety and efficacy. That’s really logical.

And you’re also apparently so concerned about your child’s health that you’re going to give them single vaccines which have to be further spaced apart than the combined ones leaving your child unprotected from the illnesses the vaccines are designed to prevent for longer. Yes, that really makes sense.

ProseccoPoppy · 04/01/2018 20:23

Well on the upside this has just reminded me to book in for the jab. Had it last time defo having it again this time.

gryffen · 04/01/2018 21:18

So my flu and whooping cough jab is booked for march/April, I get b12 injections every two months and I'm also pregnant.

Help ma boab!

May50 · 04/01/2018 21:22

Is the whooping cough jab new? I don’t recall having it or being offered it when I was pregnant (7 years ago now).

00100001 · 04/01/2018 21:57

It's been offered since 2012.
To 20,000 women, with no adverse side effects on the women or babies

jcsc · 04/01/2018 21:57

Had my vaccine today. OP so you'd rather run the risk of your baby catching whooping cough and dying. Great decision. Well done you!! Mother of the year already!

Lj8893 · 04/01/2018 22:31

gryffen why the flu jab so late? March/April is pretty much out of flu season! You would be better off having it now!

gryffen · 04/01/2018 22:34

I've already had it a couple of months ago but we get it again at that time via work health provider and due to hubby having PKD.

The flu going round right now is nasty!

Lj8893 · 04/01/2018 22:36

Ahh makes sense! Yes it's really nasty, I've just recovered from it after 6 weeks of feeling absolute pants Sad

kimlack · 10/01/2018 20:50

Oh yeah! I really think that you should go for it. I also have heard of this Whooping cough thing. It's really hazardous. Don't hesitate or stop just take the VACCINE. They are really important to you now. Just don't be hard on yourself. It will pass but it's really necessary for you and the baby. Anyway! I hope you will understand and get it. Don't worry! It will work fine for you. Take care and bless you.

CommanderDaisy · 10/01/2018 21:02

So you are concerend with your baby getting Alzheimers from aluminium exposure? Long term planning there.

Are you also removing all aluminium based deoderants, pans, foil, processed food, freezer foods packaged in foil, soft drinks in cans, flour etc for the rest of the childs life? Because you should, if this vaccine is a problem for you.

FFS.

( oh and a person can be an idiot even whilst being a doctor)
