There was a thread here on babies due in May but for some reason it’s been closed. Anyone is due then?

I was always told not to use cot bumpers of the padded kind. So I didn’t. I haven’t heard of the breathable ones though, are these the mesh ones so little arms and legs don’t fall through the bars?

Fizzysx · 08/01/2018 20:33

@McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe yes its the breathable mesh ones I have found. Its so difficult with opinions on different products its hard working out what to do for the best.

McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe · 08/01/2018 20:43

Oh tell me about it @Fizzysx. It’s been 7 years since I had a baby and all the advice seems to have changed!

Frankie2015 · 08/01/2018 21:55

I had the breathable ones for my DS whose now 2. think I got them from John Lewis or amazon but I didn’t bother having them until he was able to roll and was more mobile in his cot and they stayed on till he moved to his big boy. I only got them because I’d find him with an arm or leg sticking out so I needed something as didn’t want him to hurt himself but had read how dangerous the normal bumpers are.

Fizzysx · 08/01/2018 22:16

@Frankie2015 Thank you thats really helpful!

PatchworkWellies · 08/01/2018 22:24

Hey all, I was on a previous post that closed, some of the names are familiar. I'm due 26th May, it's our 2nd and we haven't found out. Got a 19 month old son (2 in May, we like that month 😁).

Re. Bathing, we were lent a baby bath which was fine but certainly not a necessity, a seat would have been great I'm sure. You're told not to bath them for first few weeks anyway ( think we did at 2 weeks tho). Wouldn't worry too much about cold as weather will be warming up nicely by then and like someone else said, it's only quick and then you can snuggle them up in a massive fluffy towel and take cute pics!!

Re cot bumpers, advice is still nothing in/on cot except baby, preferably in sleeping bag. We didn't have a bumper (he went into cot at 4 months) and never had any probs with arms/legs out of bars or banging head. That said, all babies are different and at least mesh option must reduce/remove risk of suffocation...

BlueRaincoat89 · 09/01/2018 20:16

@PatchworkWellies is it preferred for them to sleep in sleeping bags? I've been trying to find what's recommended and can't decide between getting cellular blankets and a sleeping bag.

PatchworkWellies · 09/01/2018 21:45

@BlueRaincoat89 sorry, I think either is recommended. We've used sleeping bags and got on really well with them, can't speak for blankets but I'd love to know what other mums say about their baby actually staying under blankets? My son is all over the place when sleeping! His room is v cold so it gives me peace of mind to know that he can't wriggle out of his covers!!

BlueRaincoat89 · 10/01/2018 21:20

@PatchworkWellies I'd prefer to get a sleeping bag as they just look easier and like you say, they can't kick them off. This is our first so we're researching everything and getting so many different answers! Nice to hear that your experience of sleeping bags is good.

Hi ladies, I wondered where the thread had gone & was wondering how everyone was doing!
How are you all?

Time is flying now & I can’t believe I’m over 24 weeks already.
My bump is (as predicted) rather large now & I’m learning to squat not bend over & to raise my legs when I tie shoe laces!
We’ve just started feeling her kick on the outside which is quite exciting - but most movement is still gentle.
Still feeling good, but getting rib pain (which I know is only going to get worse as I get bigger - I am short & petite in bone structure with narrow rib cage so I guess my ribcage is having to stretch a lot!)
It is worse in mid afternoon / early evening (removing bra helps even though I only wear comfy sports bras!)

I know I can’t complain as have been lucky & having a very good pregnancy, but if anyone has any tips for relieving rib pain then please pass them on! Smile

@lottiec1 - I was struggling to find affordable maternity leggings with bump support. I bought a pair of second hand fittamamma leggings on ebay & they are quite good.
The best advice I had was to buy a large tubigrip (got mine on amazon for £7 ish), that I wear over my tummy as bump support when I run. That way I can wear my normal pre-pregnancy running leggings when I run (I wear them under bump). It works a treat & stops bump feeling wobbly Smile

Hi everyone! Due 21st May with DC2. 20 weeks scan on weds, everything looked good. Getting excited now!

Loved sleeping bags for my first. Will use them again. We tried blankets but they never seemed to stay in place and I was worried about her getting cold as it was winter. She was such a wriggler in her sleep as she grew that blankets never would have worked.

Anyone else suffering hideous heartburn already? Mine started at 13 weeks, after the sickness went away. One literally replaced the other. But it’s getting really bad, gavascon is not cutting it. Can you over dose on gavascon?! Dreading the thought of 18 more weeks of this. And surely it’s only going to get worse still Sad

PatchworkWellies · 13/01/2018 13:31

@bluesky1980, I completely get your pain! I had awful rib pain for the last few weeks of last pregnancy, didn't know what to do with myself & couldn't get comfortable at night. Never did find a solution so if anyone else has ideas I'd be grateful. It hasn't started for me properly yet this time round (21 wks now) but I think it started around 30 wks last time so I'm expecting it...!!

Arianna1 · 14/01/2018 17:16

WHere abouts in your belly do you feel the kicks by by now?

OP posts:
LittleFox01 · 14/01/2018 17:21

Mine generally changes from my left side to the middle just above my belly button. I mainly feel him kicking in the middle though. Curious to know where everyone else feels kicks 😊 xx

duckii · 14/01/2018 19:44

I feel them lower down. Below belly button sometimes around belly button area. I have an anterior placenta though, not low lying xx

PatchworkWellies · 14/01/2018 19:55

All below the bellybutton at mo. At scan last week baby was completely jammed head down so I think it's actually arms I'm feeling there at mo if it's still in the same position!!

SoaksAndNaps · 14/01/2018 20:28

Hi All, very new to Mumsnet and came across this thread.. I am a first time mum due in May 2018. Really excited to see lots of great advice out there.. just wanted to say hey! X

duckii · 14/01/2018 20:32

welcome @SoaksAndNaps I'm a first time mum also due in May. How far along are you? Xx

Arianna1 · 14/01/2018 20:40

I feel the kicks below belly button too, and mainly on my left and right sides above the hips. Which made me think that the baby is lying horizontally .. but who knows??

OP posts:
SoaksAndNaps · 14/01/2018 20:45

Hi @duckii I am 24 weeks tomorrow!! How about you? We are having a little boy which is so exciting!

Fizzysx · 14/01/2018 21:06

I feel them both left and right side from just above my belly button down. Hes so active wakes me up about 4am every morning kicking hard, so I am starting to look like a zombie struggling on sleep already least he's getting me ready for his arrival I suppose 😂

duckii · 14/01/2018 21:18

@SoaksAndNaps Aww lovely. I'm 23w5 and having a little girl! Are you working at the moment? When will you be going on maternity leave?

McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe · 14/01/2018 22:21

All kicks seem to be below my belly button here too. Baby is definitely nocturnal and has a good old thrash around at night 😂
I’ve got this horrible cold that’s been doing the rounds at the moment. No work for me tomorrow (shame).

nats1017 · 14/01/2018 22:50

Hey everyone! Has anyone got any tips to help heartburn? I’m 23 weeks and it’s just started at night over the past week :(

grace7 · 14/01/2018 23:01
