F***ity f*** f***, is 49 too old for a child?

I never swear but jeez I’m in shock. DH and I never had kids due to my endometriosis and in the end we just gave up...we do however have two beautiful step-children who I class as my own flesh and blood.

Today I found out I am pregnant. Missed my period and knew something was up as it’s like clockwork. Decided take a test just to rule it out and both tests had a big blue line! My DH is away on business and I’ve spent the day in a daze....I’m worried I’m too old and there’ll be a mass of medical complications...please someone tell me this can work out....

ah how wonderful! Best advice is to go and see your GP ASAP. TO be honest as long as you are fit and well then you may well sail through. Obviously risks are increased but you have got this far. Good luck!

Racmactac · 20/12/2017 21:30

Wow. Congratulations !!
Gp straight away.

RandomMess · 20/12/2017 21:31

Just take it one day at a time! Really hope it works out Thanks

LaContessaDiPlump · 20/12/2017 21:31

Congratulations! Anecdotal evidence (much of it on here!) says you should be fine. Don't worry Smile

McTufty · 20/12/2017 21:31

It is absolutely not too old - provided you want a child! There are increased risks that a doctor can discuss with you but hopefully everything will be fine. Congratulations and good luck!

Borridge · 20/12/2017 21:31

Not too old. Congratulations!

AnaWinter · 20/12/2017 21:31

Wow! Congrats op

lucy101101 · 20/12/2017 21:32

It happens! I had two in my 40's (admittedly not 49!) and have met mums who had them in the upper 40's (quite common here in London). If you can get pregnant then you can have it! Don't be too scared by the stats... in real terms there is only a small actual increase in problems due to age. If you are worried and can afford it then go somewhere like the FMC for Harmony (or similar testing) and scans etc. My only other advice is not to go over your due date (sage advice given to me by a friend who is a consultant). Good luck and congrats!!!!

shakeyourcaboose · 20/12/2017 21:32

Your pregnant so your body says it's fine! Huge congratulations!

Lifeofpies · 20/12/2017 21:32

Wow congratulations! You must be in shock!
Good luck and no it's not too old!!

Flomper · 20/12/2017 21:35

My friend recently had a baby at 47 - another surprise. It was fine! Easy pregnancy and healthy baby. Congratulations!

ihavetogoshoppingnow · 20/12/2017 21:35

Congratulations Flowers

Mrsknackered · 20/12/2017 21:38

Of course you are not too old. It is a higher risk, which I'm sure you know, but it is still hugely likely you will both be just fine.
Huge congratulations OP.
My aunt has just had a baby at 48, and he's absolutely perfect Smile

Snowman41 · 20/12/2017 21:39

Oh wow, congratulations - I know a lady who had her first andonly when she was 48. She sailed through the pregnancy.

Tinselistacky · 20/12/2017 21:40

Look after yourself!!

KCWW · 20/12/2017 21:44

That's quite a Christmas surprise! Congratulations.

usernameinfinito · 20/12/2017 21:46

My great aunt had a baby in her late forties. She thought it was the menopause. Her baby was premature but it all worked out. The ‘menopause’ baby is now 35 years old with two children of her own.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 20/12/2017 21:47

Are you in good health generally?

LivelyMummy · 20/12/2017 21:49

Congratulations!

Mishappening · 20/12/2017 21:50

Congratulations!

Just think about those women who have conceived by IVF when in their 60s! - you are a mere babe in comparison!
