@TeaAndToast85 I'm sorry that's really crap of your DM!! Does she normally make comments like that? If they've been weighing you at the appointments and not said anything then you must be within the expected range.

ClaireBear1986 · 03/01/2018 09:03

Omg @TeaAndToast85, how rude of your Mum!! I agree with PP, that if you had put too much weight on then the midwife would mention it.

I have joined up to pregnancy yoga, going to swim one day a week (well try anyway, will see how that works out) and have a pregnancy workout DVD as well for home.
Not going crazy for exercise, but doing a bit just to keep active.

My Manager has ordered me a maternity uniform now and it is hideous. Never seen anything so unflattering in my life. It's from Next, and I just look like a hippo in a bin sack. Ha. So it's definitely put me off buying any maternity clothes from Next.

I've got bad back pain, but mine is lower down on the left side. Originally thought I had pulled a muscle coughing, as I have had a really bad cough for 4 weeks now. However, it seems to be getting worse so not sure if it is something else.
I'm just resting and using my hot water bottle/wheat cushion for it.

Pumpkinma · 03/01/2018 14:31

New Look online are having a sale and have some nice maternity bits. I got a few tshirts and tops for between £2 and £5 worth a look for anyone needing anything 😊

ClaireBear1986 · 03/01/2018 15:23

Thanks @Pumpkinma. Just got a lovely dress for my anniversary meal in the New Look sale :)

Wonderfullysunny and TeaAndToast, as others have said, it sounds like nothing to worry about if the midwives haven’t said anything. Everyone experiences things differently and they’ll be very quick to tell you if they’re worried. Also, I’ve put on a stone! I was underweight to begin with and always have been but not purposefully, so I’m quite reassured I’m putting on weight. However, it seems an obscene amount!! I’ve not been weighed at a midwife appointment since the first though.

I’ve had Braxton Hicks the last 2 days! So bizarre! I rang my mum to see what she thought (she’s a midwife) and she said it certainly sounds like it. She told me to take it easy but it was first day back at work today so they were back by the afternoon. Has anyone else experinced these?

lisara79 · 03/01/2018 19:56

Hi All... I've been here on and off but was trying to stay quiet and away from groups as I was getting so anxious... baby moving regularly now though and anxiety is dropping a bit as I'll hit 6 months on Friday. I've had a read and catch up and glad to see you all... @envy I've also had Braxton hicks this week... such a.weirs feeling. What a luxury to have a midwife for a mother. With regards to weight... mine has been commented on by my consultant (as my bp is rising) and although not told the 8lbs I've put on has not been considered too much, I've been told to watch it... my bmi was 43 to start mind so no real surprise. Is anyone else doing a gestational diabetes test soon?

Pumpkinma · 03/01/2018 20:16

That's okay @ClaireBear1986 Ooo hope you have a lovely time for your anniversary. I'll be 32 weeks at mine so don't think we will be doing too much 😂

@lisara79 I had a GTT a couple of weeks ago, all came back fine. Have you got one coming up?

lisara79 · 03/01/2018 20:34

@pumkinma I have mine booked in for the 19th... I was talking to the midwife about it today.... I'm hoping all will come back ok.

Pumpkinma · 03/01/2018 20:49

Good luck with it! Take a book or a magazine with you, 2 hours is a long time to sit around doing nothing! @lisara79

lisara79 · 03/01/2018 20:54

the is @pumkinma great advice... I will do.

Fieau · 03/01/2018 21:02

I had my diabetes test on the 30th. No idea when I'll get the results though! It made me feel really sick.

We've done some window shopping for nursery furniture. One of the things we want is a chest of drawers with changing table on top, but all the ones we've seen you can only pull the drawers out half way (so can't reach the stuff in the back!) is this a safety thing to stop them tipping or will I be able to find some where I can actually open the drawers properly?

amysaurus87 · 03/01/2018 22:08

Bit clueless here, do we have to have the glucose test or is it optional? My midwife has never mentioned it to me, that said I have my 25week appointment tomorrow so she might mention it then.

No Braxton hicks here, weight gain so far is 1stone 3, but I was a fairly normal weight before I found out I was pregnant, so midwife is not concerned, everyone else is and insists on telling me I'm going to have a big baby!

I've started to get lower back pain, which means I'm spending lots of time in the bath in nice warm water to soothe it, not complaining as bubba loves the bath and has a right old wiggle round while I'm in it! I have started to get a numb thigh though, not totally numb but more like it's got really really cold, to the point that it can be a bit painful, anyone else having this? Dr google says it's normal but will be asking midwife tomorrow.

Fieau · 03/01/2018 22:18

I think the thigh thing is from pressure on the nerves.... But definifely check with the midwife!

I think the glucose tolerance test is only for people at risk, I had to have it as my dad and grandad both have diabetes which puts me in the high risk group.

Fieau · 03/01/2018 22:28

Also I haven't been weighed at all apart from my booking in appointment. I've put on 6kg and no idea if that's the right amount or not Hmm

MissYeti · 03/01/2018 22:44

@fieau you're lucky, ive been weighed at every appointment -_- ive put on 4-5kg so far but was at a high bmi already so I'm advised to not put on so much. There are calculators online that show you what weight range you should be aiming for each week based on your pre pregnancy bmi

DaisyLand · 04/01/2018 09:33

Hi all!
Mum bought me a changing bag yesterday, it's the bugaboo one, it's one of the ones i had in mind to get and there was £20 discount off in the shop next to my parents house.

In case you're ftm like me and have no clue what you need to put in this bag, i've opened a thread today and got really good advise! Might need to go and get a bigger bag now haah

That's really helpful @DaisyLand. I have the Silver Cross Chelsea changing bag to match my pram, but not actually thought about what goes in it. Ha.

Not even thought about what goes in the hospital bag yet either. Think labour just seems so far away still. When do people usually pack their hospital bag?
I also have a large holdall, will this be OK to use, or would I need something bigger?

I've been weighed at all my apps so far, but I'm just really hoping that they listen to the heartbeat next week as they haven't done that yet.
My Midwife said she will also check my blood again, as the tiredness I have felt during the 2nd trimester has been insane. A lot worse than 1st trimester.
I have suffered all my life really badly with anaemia but on my last blood tests my iron was fine for the 1st time ever, so wondering if iron levels have dropped again.

How is everyone feeling, returning to work after the festive break?

DaisyLand · 04/01/2018 11:07

@ClaireBear1986 I've done another list using this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/3127676-Hospital-Bag

Do you take pregnancare? Not sure whether it's cuz of that but my iron levels have been really good according to the mw

OP posts:
MissYeti · 04/01/2018 11:54

I'm planning on using my changing bag for hospital. We're only 10 minutes away from the hospital so if I forget anything the OH can just bring it for me. Even for a c section nowadays my hospital usually only keeps you in one night so I'm not expecting an extended stay!

I've magically managed to lose half a kilo since Monday. Pretty impressive given that I've been lounging around eating Christmas leftovers 😂

ClaireBear1986 · 04/01/2018 12:08

Yeah I take pregnacare max. I wouldn't be surprised if my iron levels are low though, as I have suffered with it most my life.

Used to eat a lot of steak and broccoli which helped, but don't like steak well done and since being pregnant even the thought of broccoli makes me feel sick.

Thanks @DaisyLand, all your lists are so helpful.

Wow, you have lost weight @MissYeti. Even when not pregnant, I have never ever managed to lose weight at Xmas. You must have a secret. Ha.

MissYeti · 04/01/2018 12:22

@clairebear1986 if I have a secret its a very good one cuz I don't even know what it is!! I'd like to apply it to the rest Of the year! 😂

TeaAndToast85 · 04/01/2018 12:31

Hi everyone Smile can somebody who has had their 25w midwife appt tell me how long the appt was? I need to know how much cover to request at work, because mine is on Monday x

DaisyLand · 04/01/2018 12:39

@TeaAndToast85 mine was only 20 mins or so, they run 20mins slot in my place . Could have been even little bit less (15)

@MissYeti share it with us! :) i keep going up and down in weight. I lost 2.5kgs in 1st trimester, and now i'm just 4.5kgs over my 1st appoitments weight, so in total 7kgs i guess but it's good it's only 4.5kg. I've got 29.5 BMI so was recommended to put 9kgs or so on... so i've already done half! In a private scan the other day i was told little me weights 800grs... I told the people at there WHATTT ARE YOU TELLING ME THE REST IS THE XMAS FOODDD :)

@ClaireBear1986 you're welcome, some of your threads i've seen have been really helpful as well for me :)

Also, We've chosen/announced the name of the baby. In the spanish culture it's really common to do it. I know it isnt so much in the british, but i'm not worried of anyone "stealing" it from me, it's such a strange name that nobody would :) How is the name search for the rest of you going?

MissYeti · 04/01/2018 12:52

@daisyland I was 30.5bmi when I got pregnant. Started at 91kg, dropped to 89 now I'm up at 95 so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself! Its awesome they can guess how much your mini me weighs! Don't worry about Christmas food, it is Christmas after all!! Grin

MissYeti · 04/01/2018 12:54

@daisyland we settled on Theodore a few weeks ago but my partner refuses to commit entirely in case he doesn't look like a Theodore when he's born. I can't imagine calling him anything else now, he's my little teddy bear 💙
