Glad they’re both still snug in there Bez and that you managed to get a decent sleep. Each day you get through is an achievement Smile. Hope you get some more info soon!

HarryHarry, I get Braxton Hicks sometimes. It really just feels like my stomach muscles are really tense and I can’t relax them. It’s uncomfortable rather than painful and will last a few seconds, then release, and will repeat for a period of time. They often happen when I’ve been overdoing it! Does that sound similar to what you’re experiencing? There’s a definite difference between baby position and Braxton Hicks.

dkb15164 · 26/02/2018 21:52

@HarryHarry wouldn't worry about it, just means you're more hydrated than other pregnant ladies. I had them really bad between weeks 24-30 (up to a few times a day sometimes) but they cleared up once I got into the habits of drinking more water regularly and throughout the night. The ones toward 30 weeks I didn't even really feel, I could only tell they were happening if my partner and I were touching the bump and felt it tense up. Haven't had any in the last few weeks but no doubt they'll come back nearer to my due date.
My mom pestered me for weeks to have a baby shower so I gave in and agreed to a small intimate lunch at a restaurant with immediate family (max 12). She told me on Friday that the venue had changed to her house (a big family home). I cautiously showed up on Sunday to full fledged social event of the year with between 45 and 65 people with balloons, bunting and a personalised cake (photo below). I know I should be grateful that so many people showed up to support me and there are so many mums who don't have any support but it just reminded me of when my brothers and I were younger and my mum would drag us to parties (her own or other people's) for us to perform as entertaining monkeys. I guess it's good as now I feel comfortable talking to any strangers but I still hate these events as they make me feel so socially awkward especially as the baby shower was girls only meaning I didn't have the support of my partner or brothers to help me through it. I'm quite shy and hate being the centre of attention or any attention at all which my mother knows by my many attempts to avoid Christmas parties, weddings etc etc. Do you think I should just be grateful or do you think she was being unreasonable expecting a 33 week anaemic pregnant woman who is in the middle of moving house, middle of the university deadlines freefire, nearing the end of an internship and had just had a 12 hour shift at the six nations rugby match the day before to come socialise with 45+ guests. It's over and done with now however and I finally have floorboards in my living room as well thanks to my amazing partner.

@dkb15164 Must be annoying when people don't listen to why you'd prefer but I'm sure it was done out of a place of love and excitement for you not to annoy you.

@HarryHarry I think everyone experiences Braxton Hicks differently so maybe you're just not even noticing them or those times when your bump goes hard is them?

Just had my 34 week check up. I wish I had a picture of my midwifes face when she measured me 😂 turns out I'm still measuring big 😳 I've stopped worrying though. My blood pressure, urine and sugar levels are normal and baby is moving loads and heartbeat is fine. Roll on growth scan on the 12th

WonderfullySunny · 27/02/2018 14:37

Hi all, have been away for a while but following how everyone has been getting on time really has flown! Lovely to see people heading into the last month, will be 32 weeks tomorrow.

@HarryHarry how is it going I can imagine it's still snowy and freezing with you? I hope LO is keeping you a bit warmer at least. I'm the same with braxton hicks, no contractions as such but baby is pushing against ribs and not shifting position so feels like one spot is bruised all the time. I hope people have been a bit more considerate where you are as well. I dropped some brioche in the supermarket earlier and before I knew it a lovely guy had picked it up for me, was a bit embarrassed but was nice even still. Doctors here also refuse to give whooping cough vaccine to pregnant women Hmm another odd thing to add to the list!

@Bez9087 how are the girls doing? Have been thinking of you, if I drop anything in the car footwell at the moment it's lost for all time, having two must be so much harder. I hope they've shifted a bit as well!

@dkb15164 my family is the same, despite specifically requesting not to do something they will go ahead because it's what they want. The heart is in the right place but can be upsetting at times when you're not listened to.

Is anyone else still struggling with names? DH and I can't agree on anySad

WonderfullySunny · 27/02/2018 15:27

Also this is an interesting read in case you've not seen it, the WHO released new guidelines about two weeks ago in reducing medical interventions during birth.

AnnaMadden · 27/02/2018 16:14

Hey everyone...been off line a bit lately as so busy at work then so tired at home. 34 weeks today and had my midwife check up...all seems well. She told me to look into sterile water injections as a consideration for pain relief when in labour. Has anyone else heard or these or had any experience with them?

Braxton Hicks are becoming troublesome for me at the moment...really strong and at times regular but nothing develops thankfully. It's stopping me wearing my brace a lot which is in turn affecting my mobility with my SPD...oh the joys!

Had my baby shower on Saturday which was lovely...Peanut and I were thoroughly spoilt!

My spritz for bits and no harm nipple balm turned up this week so that's my hospital bag completely packed and ready for the main event. To be honest...I'm more than ready too! 2 1/2 weeks left at work so at least there's a plus lol.

Hope all you lovely ladies are doing well...stay safe in the snow (about 6 inches here!)

ICantThinkOfAGoodOne · 28/02/2018 06:24

@WonderfullySunny baby went through a stage with me too of constantly pushing on one spot, several times a day. It does it less now, but I always joke that it's mooning me 😂

I can't even get my DH to discuss names with me - he's always been quite bad when it comes to taking action on important decisions, but there's a real time limit on this as I'm 31 weeks on Friday...

Can't believe I'm pretty much on the home stretch now, at least as far as work goes - only 4 weeks left in the office, 3 of which are a four day week for me, plus a week at home (also a 4-day week!).

Is anyone else paranoid about giving birth early? I'm largely unprepared and still traveling into London a couple of days a week, it plays on my mind all the time!

Bez9087 · 28/02/2018 07:09

@wonderfullysunny they are both still hanging in there by the skin of their teeth I think Confused
Got the midwife at hospital Friday and my growth scan a week tomorrow to see if the left has continued to drop lines. I’m hoping she’s picked up but the fact there’s very little space in there now I personally can’t see it happening. We are ready for them either way and they would be in special care if they did come now so it’s just trying to keep them growing as long as I can although it’s gettig hard.
Totally fed up now so out of breath all the time, both girls still breech Hmm buggers! So I keep getting lots of kicks down below and little heads rubbing in my ribs it’s agony but then some days they are so low I’m convinced they are just going to fall out. Still having Braxton Hicks although not as regular but some are so tight I feel my belly’s gonna pop open! Not long now ladies we are on the home stretch I keep trying to remind myself will miss it when all over but it’s not working at the minute.
On plus side after being told to rest more by the drs when I was in the other week dh has been doing a lot more round the house and school runs etc and been lucky a few friends and other family members have taken them or picked them up for me so it’s not too bad so I’m only having to go a couple of times a week rather than the 10 I used to do of there and then pick up later on.
Feel so sorry on the kids as we haven’t been doing much recently because I physically can’t anymore but they are being so good and understanding. Booked two tickets on groupon yesterday for odeon for £10 as my daughter wants to see the greatest showman so promised her a date at weekend just me and her to go watch it which will be nice to spend time with her (and sat down haha!)
No snow where we are we had a sprinklig yesterday but by lunch had all melted booo! Downside to living by the seaside. Have a lovely week.

DaisyLand · 28/02/2018 08:15

Bez hope the girls pick up a little bit , otherwise they’ll be almost ready to be born so I’m sure hospital would do their best to get them ready to go home. A friend of mine I believe his wife had the twins at week 36 so you’re nearly there.

I saw on the April fb group that someone had given birth today ! (Sorry if you’re around not sure what your name is in here !). Believe her dd is same as mine ! Told husband tomorrow he wasn’t happy at all haha I said can you imagine that we could have our ds tonight here with us :). Baby is doing fine apparently so that’s good news.

I’m on my way to hospital. I’ve got growth scan as well as obstetrician for my anxiety , hope they both give me good news. And tomorrow 34w mw review, not sure why bother going as I’ve been in hospital for the last month in and out every week so I know more about myself :). Only interesting thing is if she suggest the birth plan which I’ve no clue about

OP posts:
Bez9087 · 28/02/2018 08:34

@daisy that’s what my consultant said (well one of her team) that if she’s dropped again at the next scan and she goes below the 10th percentile then they will be coming out. I asked when and he said depends on how big a drop could be the day after Blushwhich would mean next Friday! I’m pooping my pants now. She started on the 90th centile at very top and now just above the tenth but can’t see her growing too much as the time they put on most weight twins is between 24-32 weeks so I’ll be 34+5 at my next scan so I’m not holding out much hope. They have had steroids already so that’s going to hopefully give them a good chance. Iv heard twins do quite well as used to having to fight shall we say for growth etc.
It’s her sister taking up most the space and squashing her. Been a few times for reduced movement for my left twin and they always say because my right is so active she’s not giving the left much room to move etc. I just hope they both do fine. Scary to think next weekend I could have potentially had them or be booked to have them the following week.

bubblegumble · 28/02/2018 11:54

I was awake from 4:30-5:45 this morning feeling dizzy..
kids woke me up at 6:30, I looked out of the window and told them to get back in bed because we were skipping school today! Snow is hideous! Every single school in my county is shut.. except ours!!
Refuse to walk 30 minutes in the snow with a 4 and 6 year old while 34 weeks!!

DH made me a cup of tea in bed but I had to jump out of bed and run downstairs before even getting one sip so I could be sick! (He was annoyingly in the upstairs bathroom, thank god for 2 toilets!)

I ordered a cat net for the cot. I decided to try it out and caught the bastard sitting on top of the net this morning.. but he's so fat that it dipped and he ended up sitting on the cover anyway!!

Still haven't felt any braxton hicks, but I've only ever had one in all three pregnancies. I'm also very lucky because I don't feel contractions. They can be felt on the outside, but I actually don't feel them! I get a very dull ache when they happen, but that's it!

Pumpkinma · 28/02/2018 13:02

@DaisyLand I had my 34 week check up yesterday. My MW went over birth plan just asked what pain relief I wanted, if I wanted the injection to help with the placenta, if I wanted baby to have the vitamin K injection/oral dosage. And just a bit of advice nothing to in depth

Wow @Bez9087 those little girls are going to be here before April for sure by the sounds of things! So exciting and I'm sure nerve racking for you! ☺️

@bubblegumble Hope you're feeling better

DaisyLand · 28/02/2018 14:56

@Pumpkinma thanks! Most of it rings the bell to me cuz it's been mentioned at my daisy birthing class. I had growth scan this morning baby is 34w and he's 5lb 1oz, he's in the 37% of weight but he's doing fine so nothing to worry about

@bez hope they behave this week and you've got good news the next week

OP posts:
HarryHarry · 28/02/2018 17:06

dkb15164 I do drink a lot of water so that might be why I haven't been feeling any BH.

WonderfullySunny At its worst, the snow here is thigh-deep, which is almost impossible to walk through when pregnant, as you can't lift your legs up high enough to climb out of it without your bump getting in the way. It makes me laugh to see what a fuss my friends back home are making about a few centimetres of snow but I suppose it's because the UK is less prepared to cope so everything shuts down.

Bez9087 I can't imagine how tired and uncomfortable you must be carrying twins. Hoping for good news for you.

DaisyLand - good luck to you too!

Bez9087 · 28/02/2018 18:33

Thanks ladies. They told me all along they would be here by end of March at latest anyway as I’m not allowed past 38 weeks and seen as I’m due 14th April that puts me Easter bank holiday weekend. But it’s so scary thinking it may be sooner. Especially how quick the weeks are flying by and months like we are in March tomorrow?! It really scares me how quick it’s approaching.

Glad to hear all your midwife appts and scans are going well. I can’t believe how close we all are too meeting our babies. Who’s starting their mat leave soon?

emvy · 28/02/2018 20:41

Bez, keeping everything crossed your left twin gets a little growth spurt on, even if it’s not what usually happens! Crazy to think you’re having your babies this month! (I’m now mentally in March even though we still have a few hours 😂).

Glad to hear all other scans and appointments are going well! We talked about some of my birthing preferences at my last midwife appointment - basically which hospital and she just told me I’d have no trouble giving birth? Not sure how she could possibly know that but it’s nice to know she thinks I’ve got it in hand? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry you’ve not been feeling well Bubblegumble. I don’t blame you for ditching school!

We’re still waiting for the snow here - I’m in the Cotswolds. It’s due tomorrow but I doubt school will end up closed until Friday if at all. One can hope!

I have 3 and a half weeks until maternity leave! My maternity cover is in doing transitions and covering my antenatal appointments as of next week so it’s definitly starting to feel real!

dkb15164 · 28/02/2018 21:50

Anybody know what the usual NHS policy is for rearranging cancelled mw appointments? I'm in Scotland in the red warning zone and as we're on lockdown in the flat until at least 10am tomorrow (they said they'd update soon) I figure my appointment at 1pm tomorrow is probably going to be cancelled. I was supposed to have a midwife appointment on the 20th February however moved flat and had to change it to a closer midwife resulting in a delayed appointment. It's 30 minutes walk through the snow which is about a foot high where we are so guessing the advice would be not to go. However as my last appointment was on 23rd January and haven't been seen by anyone since, I wonder if I should mention this when trying to rebook my appointment. I feel fine and babies kicking but I can imagine a midwife being a bit panicked finding out I haven't seen anyone in 6+ weeks while in third trimester and that's presuming I get an appointment next week and not in a few weeks time which seems more likely given they'll have a huge backlog of patients and of women triggered into early labour by bariatric pressure. I'm not worried more just curious as to how they reschedule if it's by priority or what.

Bez9087 · 28/02/2018 22:19

@dkb have you a number for the midwife team you could call in the morning?
Not the same but when dd was a baby we got discharged when she was a day old and my mw was meant to come out when she was three days old we had snow not loads but it was really icy on our streets (we don’t get gritted on small side streets) and she phoned me to check all was okay and apologised she couldn’t get out. Health visitor cancelled too. So maybe worth phoning them in morn and see if they can do a home visit perhaps? Or a bit of a reassurance chat over the phone.

AnnaMadden · 01/03/2018 15:46

Eekk we're all due to meet our babies next month guys! Some even sooner...how exciting!

I'm not getting any updates when someone posts so I'm having to actually dig out the thread to check each day so apologies if I seem out of it all.

2 more weeks at work after this week for me...3 weeks annual before my mat leave kicks in and I can't blooming wait! I'm so tired all the time and struggling with my back and SPD so can't wait to just chill a bit!

Rae2017 · 01/03/2018 17:01

I know @anna next month! All hitting home and I still haven't packed hospital bag yet 😳.

@bez ooh hope your little girls hang in a little longer. Exciting times.

I'm trying to go up to 38 and half weeks so still another 5 weeks to go at work!

ICantThinkOfAGoodOne · 01/03/2018 17:12

I need people to commiserate with - sat at home in this cold weather and I really want a hot chocolate but my blood glucose was up a few times this week so being extra virtuous right now. GD sucks 🙁

amysaurus87 · 01/03/2018 19:06

It's crazy how quick it's all gone, baby is due here in 45 days! I've got 5 days spread over the next 2 weeks left in the office, before I go on 2 weeks leave and then mat leave officially starts on 4 April.

So glad I've been off these last few days with all the snow, thought my ante-natal class tomorrow has been cancelled as they are predicting more snow tonight and tomorrow and they didn't want a whole load of heavily pregnant women struggling to get to the classes. Luckily I'm in London so it's not horrendous here, but it's still the worst I've seen in a good few years and enough that I'm not keen on going outside as its so icy.

Hospital bag is partly packed, I'm waiting for a few more weeks before I get measured for nursing bras, but otherwise I've got most of what I need, just need to pack babies bag and hubby needs to pack his!

dkb15164 · 01/03/2018 20:05

Appointment and triple p classes cancelled today. Midwife called and said to book next week, she seemed quite concerned when I mentioned I haven't seen anybody in 6 weeks. Phoned up today to make an appointment for next week on the number she gave me but they said they didn't have anybody in to make appointments at the moment and to call back on Monday. Don't know if they'll have any appointments left for next week by that time though. Would be good to get measured properly as everyone keeps remarking how neat and tidy my bump is and mum said that I look small for 33 weeks despite measuring big back in November. Mum might come through next Monday with her stuff to measure bump, check baby's heartbeat, blood pressure, urine test, etc.

Rae2017 · 01/03/2018 20:47

@dkb yeah that would be good if your mum could come round and measure. Just to reassure you.
My ankles are suffering at moment. I get home from work and they're really puffed up. Trying to drink loads of water but finding it difficult at work. Easily get to lunch and then realise I've had hardly anything.

Want to tackle hospital bag at weekend. We still need to buy going home outfit for baby. I bought some nighties the other day. Just a case of packing it all

Pumpkinma · 01/03/2018 21:07

Hey ladies. Hope you're all well

I've been getting period like pain and cramping in my lower belly mixed with dull back ache. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to it but isn't comfortable at all. I'm 34+4 ... reading online is mixed with people saying it's normal and some saying they had this and then soon went into labour 😳

I think I'm just getting anxious and over analysing every little feeling now. What do you guys think?
