So glad to hear all scans are OK! The flutters are definitely getting stronger now, still not enough for hubby to feel though but it's so lovely to feel bubba wiggling away! Even when I'm trying to sleep!

Due to a genetic disorder I've been booked in for extra growth scans at 28,32 and 36 weeks. Would have been torture not seeing bubba again after 20weeks so would have definitely gone for private scans.

emvy · 08/12/2017 17:42

Congratulations on the positive scans guys - so lovely! Lots more on the blue bus! Yay! I keep looking at baby boys now and thinking, "Ahh! I'm actually having one of those!" 🙈😂

Yeah the NHS typically don't do scans after 20 weeks unless there's a problem. All problems that can be detected should be picked up at 20 weeks so once you're past that, there's no medical reason you'd need a scan. You of course have movements to help reassure you everything is ok then. My OH is very keen for our experience to be "normal" due to previous miscarriages and so if I don't end up through the consultant due to low bmi (still waiting on a letter 🙄), we won't get extra scans and OH is adament we won't be paying privately for anymore. Rather frustrating because I'd just like to lie and stare at our little bub for a while, that's all! Will be so jealous of all your exciting 4d scans you've got booked!

AnnaMadden · 08/12/2017 17:52

How strange that different areas offer different things...my midwife said a 35-36 week scan is standard and offered to everyone...she said it's where they can pick up placenta failings, amniotic fluid changes and general growth issues early enough to be able to intervene if they need to. It should be offered across the country in my opinion!

Bez9087 · 08/12/2017 19:48

They don’t routinely scan here after 20 weeks either unless they suspect an issue like reduced movements or growth. Or the placenta blocking the way like pp said.
I’m quite fortunate we get them every four weeks for the twins then every two after 32 weeks to monitor their growth. They have already found my ribs and bending is starting to prove difficult. I feel like I spend half my time huffing and puffing 😳
@rae banana before bed is good for cramps not sure if an old wife tale or not but I found it helps. I keep waking up in my back I read something somewhere that said as long as when your trying to sleep you are on your side don’t worry if you wake up on your back just move.
Can’t believe we ar over halfway. So many blue bumps too congrats all.

Ninjamilo · 08/12/2017 23:11

20 week scan today....all good 😊 Pip is measuring a bit on the small side, but all in proportion so nothing to worry about.

Also found out I have an anterior placenta, which is why I can't feel movement as much now my uterus, which was a massive relief and an annoyance at the same time! But at least I know all it ok now.

Ninjamilo · 08/12/2017 23:12

Meant to say now my uterus has moved up - a few weeks ago I felt flutters constantly

Loosemoose28 · 09/12/2017 00:13

@annamadden I would be interested as to why they scan at 36 weeks. 3rd trimester scans can be quite inaccurate at times apparantly. Especially with regards to growth.

Im anothe than needs a repeat scan at 34 weeks.
Low placenta. Mine is anterior as well- explains why not feeling movement as such.

AnnaMadden · 09/12/2017 09:11

@Loosemoose28 I mentioned the reasons above. A colleague of mine had her baby delivered early due to a severely failing placenta...only picked up at the late scan. After delivery the ob said the outcome could have been very different if nature had been left to its own devices so I for one am very happy with that 3rd trimester reassurance.

Rae2017 · 09/12/2017 09:35

@Bez9087 thanks ill try that! See if it helps.
Think movements are getting more prominent now. Feels like little prods this morning 😁

Went to see my friends - one has a 5 week old boy and the otger a 4 week boy. Made me so excited. I don't want to be wishing the pregnancy away but so excited for April!!!

Bez9087 · 09/12/2017 11:36

@rae anything is worth a go isn’t it.
Iv been told won’t be allowed past 38 weeks so I’m technically now no later than 31st March but I’m not board hopping 🙊
Got my pram back last night we got a second hand one off fb for £80 (bargain) and then the carrycots for £120 off gumtree for the two so all in its cost me £200, so quite happy with that as new it would cost me over a grand with the amount of stuff we got aswell like rain covers etc. Anyway dh took it to work to be re sprayed and the chassis looks brand new so been having a play this morn can’t wait to have two tiny newborns in it 😍

Alnilham · 09/12/2017 13:12

Well guys.. Gender reveal was last night in the form of a tree trimming.. USS on Thursday went well and everything is fine.. Also have an anterior placenta but that has to stopped pumpkin from producing movements I feel. I am on team....... Pink.... Excited.. Wanted a girl first.

Congratulations everyone. Alnilham The tree thing is a really cute idea.

How do you all know if you have an anterior placenta? I've had the usual routine 2D scans as well as some extra 4D scans because of a research study I'm taking part in but nobody ever tells me anything in detail because we can't speak each other's languages! So kind of pointless really Grin In the last one the baby seemed to be using the placenta as a pillow.

WonderfullySunny · 10/12/2017 10:05

Had our 20 week scan this morning, sonographer was impressed how much little one was moving and even head down already! Was incredible to see little one swallowing as well, we also found out we're expecting a boy! Starting to feel much more real now Smile

Rae2017 · 10/12/2017 15:30

It's an amazing feeling isn't it. And lovely when finding out gender. We found out at 17 weeks as had a private scan and first thing we did was go and buy something for a boy. Great feeling!

Teeeee · 10/12/2017 15:56

Congratulations all on your scans! What a relief and we‘re all more or less half way there or more now!! Crikey!!

@wonderfullysunny, have we got the same due date? I seem to remember something like that.. 26April me.

Xx

WonderfullySunny · 11/12/2017 03:36

@Teeeee yes we do Smile Still on for 26th April, it's been lovely watching everyone have their scans just feel a bit late to the party sometimes!!

ClaireBear1986 · 11/12/2017 10:48

The whole world seems to be having boys!!

I'm the same @emvy, can't help looking at babies and thinking how amazing it is that I will have one next year!!

Went to a Mothercare Expectant Parent's morning at the weekend, but wasn't very impressed with it.
However, with the help of a really friendly and knowledgeable member of staff I think we have chosen our pram and crib.
Will be going back in New Year with a personal shopper to make final decisions and purchases. I can't wait now.

I'm still in shock every day at how hard little man's kicks are at this stage (21 weeks 4 days now) I think I am in for one hell of a kicking as he gets bigger. I love it though :)

Teeeee · 11/12/2017 12:19

Very exciting starting to collect baby things! I've been given a couple of things which is lovely and makes my life a lot easier.. but thinking about all the things to organise in the new year now...

On a seperate note... My belly is increasing at an alarming rate!! Just noticed in the shower this morning the difference in a week!! Anyone else 'popping'? (as one of my friends likes to put it)

Xx

AnnaMadden · 11/12/2017 12:33

@Teeeee oh yes! Popping is the word! At 22 weeks...

Hello girls ! Having day off today as have days left to use. Won’t be able to enjoy this peace next year haha. Went for a swim hoping pelvic area would calm down but now have some other pain

Will get the pram and car seat tho from a local store , sometimes is good to support local stores ! Going with mil next week to an event in John Lewis as well as dh is busy

Teeeee this week my belly increased 1cm I’ve been measuring nearly every week haha

OP posts:
AnnaMadden · 11/12/2017 16:03

No...I think you have about a month for use them...online or in store.

ForeverHopeful21 · 11/12/2017 16:11

Just out of curiosity, what did everyone get to see at the 20 weeks scan???

I had mine a couple of weeks ago and was a bit disappointed as it was done in complete silence, no discussion about what the sonographer was doing or looking at. She showed us baby on the screen at the start and pointed out the heartbeat but thats all we got to see. Most people I know seem to have been shown baby in detail.
I even had to Google the graph abbreviations when I got home so I could understand them. Not really what I was expecting.

DaisyLand · 11/12/2017 16:22

Thanks annamaden! Let’s see what they give us this Thursday. Some people in other threads were saying it had to be used in the day

We got every single detail of it or she was saying now I’m searching for the lips , aw they seem to be properly form and so. She didn’t go into detail of measurements apart from the femur seems correct Length and so
