Embarrassing. Tmi. Please help

extremely embarrassing but desperate..

I'm 18 weeks pregnant. Been constipated for about 2 weeks nothing too major or difficult and always managed to get everything out

However today went to the toilet and got a few tiny tiny balls of poo out and can feel there's a massive part stuck up there , I can not get this piece out its soooo uncomfortable! I tried having my feet placed up higher to try and help but nothing! I can't get past "turtle head" (oh god so embarrassed) it's stuck up there and I had to give up , when I "wiped" there was blood I assume from me pushing so hard. I can't physically get fingers up as its RIGHT THERE..

I am truly mortified posting this but i really hope someone can advise me on what to do I'm terrified

I experienced this in pregnancy truly horrible and painful. My advice is to stop trying to push it out and if you can try and go for a walk or do some gentle physical activity. I find eating makes things progress too not sure why. This worked for me without needing medical help. However if the issue persists you probably do need to see a medical. Prevention is key get on the prunes!

Yes, suppositories are the only thing that will help now.

Ask for Lactolose over the counter at the chemist. Safe during pregs and works a treat.

Are you taking a pregnancy multivitamin that contains iron? They had this exact effect on me! Switch to a liquid medicine pregnancy vitamin (Pregnacare do one) and it doesn’t cause turtle heads!

I second lactulose as well!

Drink tons of water literally drown yourself with water and eat fruit and everything that's likely to move things along. You will eventually give birth to it trust me. Just leave it alone and start drinking loads. It will help lubricate things up to get moving.

I had this and it was agony. I did take lactulose and eat oranges but it didn't do anything for what was actually there stuck and not coming out. I ended up putting on vinyl gloves and picking it out. It was grim but once it was moved the relief was indescribable and the stuff that had been loosened by the lactulose and oranges was able to come out. Debated whether to post as TMI but remember how awful it was.

Have you got any cocount oil in the house. If you rub a little around the area it should help you pass it.

I agree with what's been said. Have you tried rubbing your back, massaging your stomach and lifting your arms high in the air, all while sitting on the toilet btw. Best wishes, I've been there too.

You have my sympathy - I really suffered with constipation throughout pregnancy. I also recommend Lactulose. It does the trick, albeit slowly.

There's another 'technique' you can try too. I read it on a MN thread ages ago and thought there was no way it would work...but it did!

Basically when you're sitting on the loo, bend backwards and forwards from your hips for a minute. It must stimulate bowel contractions or something...but I swear by it! Really hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone! I know I'm being somewhat over dramatic but I'm just so upset I've had the worst pregnancy ever so far and it's just one thing after the other! I'm trying to work up the courage to get up and dressed to the shop to get a few of the things suggested..
I'm the worst for panicking so I've convinced myself that it's far too large and never ever going to come out!

I had this last time and had to get the gloves on and rummage. Grim indeed but had to be done. Felt like I had a bowling shoved in my bum.

I really feel for you with this one. I haven't experience this from pregnancy but I have Crohn's disease with scarring in my bowel and have been hospitalised twice literally from constipation (I'm not bothered about anyone seeing this as I'm on a mission to normalise poo talk, you have to with Crohn's 😂). Lactulose is really good and I also agree with other about drinking as much water as you possibly can. If you're really struggling with this for a while try a low residue diet as well which is good for constipation. Good luck and you really have my sympathy!

Lactulose is great but can take a few days to work. So do the suppositries and then I'd do a few days, if not weeks, of lactulose to keep things going. I down the stuff from the bottle when pregnant. It's a glamourous job being pregnant.

The progesterone in your body relaxes smooth muscle, which is what your intestines are.

Lots of fruit and veg and liquid. (You need soluble fibre and not to ever get thirsty). Try porridge, stewed apple and orange juice for breakfast, and a hot drink and a sit on the loo. Daily. Going very regularly can help keep things moving. The suppositories will help here.

Lactulose is an indigestible sugar that holds on to the liquid in the stools. You can get other similar things if you find this does not help (ask doctor).

Often fybogel is offered. It is very safe. It is just fibre. If you have plenty fibre in your diet, it is useless. If your bowels are moving slowly, then too much liquid gets taken out and the fybogel dries up, like peat based potting compost, and adds to the bunging up. Likewise bran.

Hmm having looked at other people's suggestions actually I'm not sure if low residue would be good for you as you probably need more fibre. Also I hope I didn't worry you with the hospital thing I just wanted to emphasise that it's not something stupid to be embarrassed about and people underestimate it as a problem!

I used make up this compote - soak 4 oz each of prunes apricots raisins overnight in water, strain off most of the water then blitz, then use compote with yogurt or on porridge. Also flax seed and linseed super.

Lactulose is a softener so make sure you drink lotsand lots extra.

Walk squat walk walk some more to keep things moving and eat plenty of oranges kiwis and grapes.

Manctart I agree with you, people need to be able to discuss these things without embarrassment, part of the human condition bodily functions, a problem shared and all that.
