extremely embarrassing but desperate..

I'm 18 weeks pregnant. Been constipated for about 2 weeks nothing too major or difficult and always managed to get everything out Blush

(This is where I get graphic)

However today went to the toilet and got a few tiny tiny balls of poo out and can feel there's a massive part stuck up there , I can not get this piece out its soooo uncomfortable! I tried having my feet placed up higher to try and help but nothing! I can't get past "turtle head" (oh god so embarrassedBlushSad) it's stuck up there and I had to give up , when I "wiped" there was blood I assume from me pushing so hard. I can't physically get fingers up as its RIGHT THERE..

I am truly mortified posting this but i really hope someone can advise me on what to do I'm terrified Sad

Don't worry OP, all dignity goes out of the window during childbirth anyway Wink
You sound so uncomfortable. Definitely suppositories and a bottle of lactulose for when you next start feeling like you're starting to get constipated.

Sashkin · 23/09/2017 01:12

I didn't find lactulose or fybogel did much (I was taking 20mls of lactulose 4xday and still nothing. And drinking six pints of water. I'm vegetarian and already eat plenty of fibre).

Dulcolax (sodium docusate) worked a treat. And the whole constipation thing went away in the second trimester, it was at its worst between weeks 8-14 from what I remember. I'm sure half of my morning sickness was constipation-related.

MrsLilymunster · 23/09/2017 01:30

I've had this problem before. Though I massaged and pushed on the area surrounding my butt hole. You can usually feel everything but that way it csn move around abd separate. Often changes to an angle it can come out at xx

Lovechild2016 · 23/09/2017 08:13

I birthed the hugest poo the other week after several days of terrible constipation. It was so big it took about 4 flushes. It was agony but also wonderful. I'm now on a strict diet of fruit!

LuluJakey1 · 23/09/2017 10:44

Warning TMI.

When I was in hospital with pancreatitis my gut just stopped- for 12 days(didn't eat at all for 4). Anyway, they would not let me go home until I had pooped. I was given two bananas ever morning for 3 days- all bran, had an enema- nothing.
They tried another enema and it worked but the poo was huge and got stuck. I was sitting in a hospital bathroom and the pain it caused was terrible. I had sweat pouring off me to the point where I had stripped off. It was stuck and I was desperate to get this poo out but scared of the pain. It took about half an hour and the nurse knocked on the door to ask if I was ok. I just said yes and leave me alone. Eventually I got it out and it was round and just huge and all knobbly. It caused a small tear which bled. I sat on the loo in exhaustion for a while soaked in sweat then had a long shower before I went back to bed. It was like giving birth.

It took weeks for the tear to heal up.

Pancreatitis was awful- pain of that was worse than childbirth. It was caused by a gallstone. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I am so careful now. Water, fruit, and these in the picture at any sign - I just take half a one, they are chewy and you can get them at Holland and Barret. I always have them in the house.

Any joy OP? Hopefully you're having a nice lie down feeling lighter.

Terrylene · 23/09/2017 11:02

Dulcolax (sodium docusate) worked a treat

I will repeat that this causes cramps, pain and shock in some individuals (please google) and I would not recommend it to the general public. There are gentler laxatives around such as movicol. Talk to a doctor or midwife about laxatives, or better still, a physiotherapist with an interest in constipation.

Terrylene · 23/09/2017 11:03

Lulu - pancreatitis is indeed awful. I had a relative die from it. Flowers

Binglesplodge · 23/09/2017 19:40

Another pregnancy constipation veteran here: vaseline and a root around with a latex glove will do the trick. If it's big and hard you'll need to break bits off and usher them out one by one. Once you've dealt with the big obstruction your should be able to get any remaining poo out easily.

Then it's a case of getting on top of the hydration/fibre on an ongoing basis to avoid a repeat. You'll be fine. Good luck.

Kiwis really do help!!

KalaLaka · 23/09/2017 19:59

I had terrible painful constipation after my csection so just look upon this as a learning experience so you can plan ahead!! Don't be embarrassed Smile

LittleWitch · 23/09/2017 20:02

Dried apricots, then in the morning drink a cup of hot tea while lying on your left side before getting out of bed. I promise this works.

Whereland · 23/09/2017 20:07

I am so glad you posted this- the same thing happened me he other day and I was traumatised 😂 it was agony, I was convinced actual labour will be a breeze compared to it!! Must buy some suppositories to have in stock in case it happens again.. oh the joys.

Iusedtobeafreeelf · 23/09/2017 20:13

How are you doing op? I found kiwis really helped. After the first painful pregnancy poo I ate one a day.

SummerRayne17 · 23/09/2017 20:16

This happened to me whilst pregnant, after a stay in hospital on morphine and pethidine. Poo was rock hard and all balled up, i tried everything. Was sat on loo in tears, feeling like death. The only thing i could do was to get a latex glove on and manually remove it bit by bit (i had seen a Dr doing it on The Island) with my finger. Sounds disgusting but it worked to clear the blockage. You should then be able adjust your diet going forward and increase your fluid intake, to help prevent a recurrence. Good luck x

BillBrysonsBeard · 23/09/2017 20:18

I agree with the suppository, magic things! I remember when I was constipated aged 17.. I was on the toilet for two hours pushing an impossible poo out. I was at the point of no return- it wouldn't come out further and it wouldn't suck back in either. It was like King Kong's finger. Anyway I had to break it with my gloved hand Shock This might sound gross to some, but if I ever feel a bit bunged up nowadays then anal sex does the trick.

Good luck OP! Grin

Lulu2515 · 23/09/2017 20:20

Op really hope you're feeling better. Any movement?

I'm actually following this avidly like a 'going into labour' post.

Sending lots of positive vibes Flowers

ferrier · 23/09/2017 20:21

I suffered post operative constipation. Five days of lactulose and fybogel made no difference but half a tin of prunes did the trick in about half an hour. Was bloody painful but it worked.

IndianaMoleWoman · 23/09/2017 20:28

I came back hoping for news from OP but "King Kong's Finger" has just made me wake the baby laughing.

KermitsLoveChild · 23/09/2017 20:48

King Kong’s finger Grin. I am dying here 😂.

OP hope you’ve had some relief.

IndianaMoleWoman · 23/09/2017 20:51

I think we need a King Kong's finger emoji, MNHQ.

SnowiestMountain · 23/09/2017 20:59

Another one here willing you on and hoping it's out!! Grin

PeaceAndLove1 · 23/09/2017 20:59

This has given me such a good laugh too, not the pain of course. King Kongs finger, crying Grin

Rachie1986 · 23/09/2017 21:07

Hope you are ok OP x

twinkledag · 23/09/2017 22:04
