For not did

I also have a fear of blood tests. Doesn’t sound as bad as you but I have been known to cancel or not attend because I really don’t like them. It’s true. When it’s for the baby you want to do what’s best.

And when someone said “that’s nothing compared to pushing it out” it put it into a bit of perspective!

This booklet makes out it's like 10 times and I just thought I honestly can't go through that. Especially when it says one is checking for blood type, when I already know mine it seems unnecessary. I know it sounds stupid and selfish and I really don't mean to be. Especially as I need my license for work. It really isn't clear exactly why the need to take the blood either. Is that something they will explain at my first appointment?

TheLionQueen1 · 24/09/2017 20:43

Yes they will explain at your booking in appointment, the first one. Why would they take your licence away because of a seizure as a reaction to a phobia? I would question that as well, your Midwife will be able to alleviate your worries in regards to that.

Bambi29 · 24/09/2017 20:55

Apparently any seizure would result in a 12 month suspension for safety reasons? I'm not really sure to be honest, I was really out of it when I came round! Hopefully the midwife is able to explain it better, just wish I didn't have to wait so long. Just feel really stupid and scared to be honest which is pathetic for a 34 years old.

Bobbiepin · 24/09/2017 22:07

I can only recall 3 lots of bloods and I'm 35 weeks so don't panic so much about that. The one where they check blood type is done with a multitude of other tests so its not only that. I would recommend seeing your GP to see if you can have some counselling or maybe start hypnotherapy to tackle the phobia, even taking the first steps may help. Its worth asking the midwife if there's any method of sedation for the tests too. Otherwise i agree with the others, your mindset changes completely, this is no longer about you, the lengths you will go to for your child will surprise you.

Just out of curiosity, how did you receive a general anaesthetic without needles?

Bambi29 · 24/09/2017 22:23

They gave me a mask to breathe in the gas and then put the needle in my hand while I was knocked out, when I came round I only had a plaster as evidence! The dentist suggested sedation, that's usually done with needles too :(

Kit17 · 24/09/2017 23:08

Bambi29 was that at a midwife appointment or something else at the hospital? Sounds like I'm about as severe as you and I'm freaking out about my booking in appt!!

Missonhartbaby · 25/09/2017 00:16

@Bambi29 firstly congrats! I only had my blood taken three times and the third time was only due to them finding out I was anemic the second time. They really don't take blood that many times unless it's for a specific reason... I can't really empathise as although I don't like it, i can handle it when I need to you but it must be horrible for you to be that petrified :( Like another poster said no one can make you have it done but they do alot of screening with the first lot of bloods so it is important. Make sure you explain clearly to your dr/midwife and try to sort out some sedation (of the non needle variety!) for it. I hope it goes OK for you, try not to freak yourself out too much about it!

@ew1990 I'm planning a waterbirth too if all goes to plan! Probs gonna do it either naked or start off just in like a sleep bra or something. I'm 37 weeks on Tuesday and he was head down in engaged at last week's appointment so I'm hoping he just stays in the right position!

Anyone else around 37 weeks or so getting incredibly sore nipples? Do you think I can start using nipple cream now?

Bambi29 · 25/09/2017 06:51

@kit17 I've not had my first midwife appointment yet, this has been other things at hospital or dentists.
@missionhartbaby thanks, I'm hoping the midwife can suggest something when I see her. I'll try and keep the freaking out to a minimum until then!

lydiangel83 · 25/09/2017 07:08

@Bambi29 congrats I also only had 2 blood tests and am now 35 wks. Hope they can work something out for you.

Bambi29 · 25/09/2017 07:35

Thank you :)

ew1990 · 25/09/2017 18:26

Girls I haven't a clue about nursing bras, my boobs haven't grown (33 weeks now) but I know that could change when I breastfeed so I don't know what size to get? Just when I thought I had it all figured out something else pops up! 🙈

Julesbegone · 25/09/2017 18:44

@ew1990 I'm in exactly the same situation so watching with interest!

lydiangel83 · 25/09/2017 18:56

Iv only got 1 nursing bra and am planning to buy more once baby is born / I know what size I am / I know I can breast feed

TheLionQueen1 · 25/09/2017 19:01

Same as @lydiangel83 I have one that I got around 30 weeks and was measured and then will get more if needed after!

ew1990 · 25/09/2017 19:29

I'm just gunna get one for now the. Till babies here

Missonhartbaby · 25/09/2017 20:27

I bought a pack of two from Newlook which seem to be really comfy and have the clip straps etc for nursing. I did get measured first somewhere else though before. Not sure if they will still fit once my milk comes in properly but dont your boobs fluctuate so much then that's its hard to get any bra to always fit really well?

Missonhartbaby · 26/09/2017 17:14

Is anyone else in there third trimester just feeling really fed up? I'm 37 weeks and to be fair I've had a great pregnancy but I'm just so bored of not having anything to do! It's driving me crazy! Nursery is done, house is sorted etc. I just want him here now!

TheLionQueen1 · 26/09/2017 17:32

@Missonhartbaby completely there with you! I'm 38 weeks today and am getting beyond bored! Have done everything I wanted to do and finished all my shopping and just want to meet him now! I'm trying to do lots of swimming and staying active to force him out!

lydiangel83 · 26/09/2017 18:04

@Missonhartbaby @TheLionQueen1 I'm 35 wks tomorrow, finish work tomorrow, feel so tired and sick today as well, bad back everyday. Not at the point I am ready for baby yet but I think give it another week and I will be! We have intensive course of NCT this week and next and then I will feel more ready (and when House is ready too!)

Bobbiepin · 26/09/2017 19:56

@missionhartbaby absolutely! I finish work next Friday and we're still having our kitchen done but I'm so looking forward to having her here. She keeps sitting in this odd position pushing her bum out my bump, its really uncomfortable!

lydiangel83 · 26/09/2017 21:30

@Bobbiepin I think I have the same position it is uncomfortable!!

Bobbiepin · 26/09/2017 22:24

I'm glad that made sense. Feels like my skin is just going to tear open and she'll fall out. That's one way of avoiding labour, I guess!

ew1990 · 26/09/2017 22:53

Bobbie her bums always sticking out just under my ribs! Feels like she's twerking sometimes 😂😂 it's weird to watch her stick it out then in again
