You're so lucky to still have a belly button!

TheLionQueen1 · 22/09/2017 19:23

Agree with Jules! Mine is completely out Grin

Missonhartbaby · 22/09/2017 22:56

I have my baby shower tomorrow, I can't wait!!! Also my belly button is complete ly out aswell! @lionqueen I thought I was leaving my shower till late at 37 weeks... Would be nice to do the baby shower with your little in though, means everyone can get a cuddle in one go too!

Bobbiepin · 24/09/2017 09:29

Girls has anyone had a proper stinking cold? I'm feeling rough as hell and don't know what I can do. Paracetamol helps a small amount but I'm coughing until I throw up, my head hurts so bad I swear I can feel it in my teeth and I'm all blocked up. I don't usually get colds very often but I'm susceptible to chest infections as I'm asthmatic, last one I got I couldn't fight off even with antibiotics and ended up with pneumonia. I really don't wanna get that ill again Sad

ScotsLamb · 24/09/2017 10:03

@jules I got button down from Primark too. They have check sleep gowns with buttons all the way down. I also got some large size cotton nighties that have buttons that go down bellow my boobs.

TheLionQueen1 · 24/09/2017 10:18

Sorry To hear @Bobbiepin Sad I think @mrsjkerry had one recently too?

Paracetamol, loads of fluid and rest and we can take throat soothers, nose/throat decongestants so maybe them? I used tyrozets when I had tonsillitis because they have the anaesthetic to numb throats and antibiotic to fight infection, they're just over the counter.

Hope you feel better soon!

mrsjkerry · 24/09/2017 10:23

Yes @Bobbiepin I had a terrible cold. Was so painful as usually I dose up on lemsip and night nurse. I took lots of baths. Had lots of vicks rubbed into my back and chest. I bought nose strips they also helped me breathe. I took fruit teas with sugar and honey as well.

If it’s that bad you should go to your gp. My midwife did suggest that to me. She said though the cold won’t harm the baby I could potentially get much worse. I didn’t go however and though I have still got a chest cough I’m generally ok.

Bobbiepin · 24/09/2017 10:48

Thank girls, I don't really want to go to the gp unless I have a temperature because there's nothing they'll be able to do for a cold and I'd feel awful taking an appointment away from someone who needs one.

Gonna try some honey and lemon and more paracetamol today but DH is out with the car so getting anything else is tricky. Surprisingly my throat doesn't hurt any more, so throat sweets wouldn't do any good either way. Think i'll just have to sleep through it and hopefully that'll help.

ew1990 · 24/09/2017 14:24

@Bobbiepin hope you feel better soon,

Are any of you girls planning a water birth?

ScotsLamb · 24/09/2017 14:30

ew1990 I would like to but my partner isn't keen at all. I'm trying to work out why he isn't keen. I spend half my life in the bath and love love love water.
He is very traditional so I wonder if it's the thought of what others will think. Or if he thinks he needs to get in too.
I'm sure I will be calmer than birthing on the bed.

ew1990 · 24/09/2017 14:39

I didn't want one until this weekend after ante natal classes, my partner said he will get in with me if I want to,

I'm just wondering what you wear? A bikini top?

ScotsLamb · 24/09/2017 14:55

I'm thinking bikini top or tankini top. Not thought a lot about it to be honest... need to convince OH first.

ew1990 · 24/09/2017 15:05

I was just thinking about doing it naked? I want to breastfeed so would have to take top off anyway? I might pack a bikini top though

mrsjkerry · 24/09/2017 15:33

I definitely want a water birth. I think you wear a tight fitting top so it doesn’t float around you. Maybe like a gym bra or something. Some women do it completely naked @ew1990.

My query is - how do you ensure you get one? In my midwife led unit there’s four rooms and only three have a pool. Baby is currently breech and they won’t let me go there if she doesn’t turn. In the labour ward there are 9 rooms and only one has a pool. I know I so so so so want a water birth but how do you ensure you get one 😩

OP posts:
ew1990 · 24/09/2017 15:57

At my hospital they have one room with a pool in it - but have 9 big inflatable pools if that one isn't Available, I can imagine wearing something whilst in the water annoying me

Bobbiepin · 24/09/2017 15:58

Thanks @ew1999

@mrsjkerry I don't think there's any way you can guarantee it unfortunately, its just luck of timing. They can't reserve a pool if someone else is there first and wants it. I think you just need it in your birth plan and tell the midwives when you arrive. Not much else you can do, and I'm not sure if they'd let you have a water birth if baby is breech, too high risk.

TheLionQueen1 · 24/09/2017 16:42

I'm planning a waterbirth, I've bought a maternity tankini too from Tesco but am likely to just be in a nursing bra realistically!

I'm luck as the MW led unit I hope to go to has pools in all 4 rooms, so there will be a pool available, it will just be down to whether I am allowed in for any reason!

Unfortunately the only way to guarantee it is a water birth at home!

I did an NCT waterbirth group, was quite interesting to hear about dad still being able to be involved, easier if anything as he can be hands on and catch baby as he comes out!

mrsjkerry · 24/09/2017 18:18

Yeh it’s that allowed in! I’ve had some issues with my heart in this pregnancy and I need a letter from my doctor to say my heart is fine if I wanna use midwife led 🙄 also the fact that baby isn’t head down currently but at 33 weeks that isn’t major.

The only other thing is that if you test positive for strep b you can’t use MWL. I’m having the test in a few weeks 😏 so many hoops to jump through first. Just wanna get in the damn pool and push her out now.

TheLionQueen1 · 24/09/2017 18:39

Exactly how I feel @mrsjkerry !!

Also mine wasn't head down, or was but head facing up towards me too much at 34 week app and MW told me to get an exercise ball and bounce or get on all fours. I've done that so much since and at 36 week appointment he was spot on! Well worth getting one!

I'm currently sat on mine now and trying to for at least an hour or so a day to bring on labour! Bags packed, we are over 37 weeks so not preterm now just bored as hell!!

mrsjkerry · 24/09/2017 19:15

Uhhhh I feel so sick and uncomfortable generally I can’t bear the thought of not just lounging on the sofa and having to sit on the bouncing ball instead. Not being able to just lounge will be just one more thing I can’t do like lying on my front or back!

OP posts:
TheLionQueen1 · 24/09/2017 19:20

How's everyone's bumps looking!? I need mine to drop so I know he's on the way! Also attached a little thing I saw on FB the other day that I think a lot of us can relate to!! Grin

I've just found out I'm pregnant and we are guessing we are about 6 weeks-ish. I phoned the doctors who have made me an appointment with the midwife (3rd october). We were nervous and a little excitement and then we got out midwife pack through the post and it seems to talk about endless blood tests. I am petrified of needles and now I'm just a complete mess about the whole thing. I'm not just scared, it's a genuine phobia. I recently had to have a general anaesthetic to have some routine dental work because I can't handle needles. The last time I had blood taken I had a seizure and the doctor said if it happens again they will have to suspend my driving license. The whole needle thing has ruined this for me and I have spent the last 4 days in tears and honestly I don't think I can do this. Is there anyway of not having them done?

mrsjkerry · 24/09/2017 19:34

No one can make you have a blood test @Bambi29. No one can force you to do anything.

It’s up to you if you want to go through your pregnancy without checking for various things. However it’s not wise I don’t think.

OP posts:
TheLionQueen1 · 24/09/2017 19:37

I have had 2 blood tests my whole pregnancy and I am 38 weeks so not necessary that you need them all the way through. I had a phobia of blood, so have taken my partner both times and have had to lie on the bed (he held me down the first time!!)

You can refuse them, I decided not to as ultimately it's about the baby not me, it's amazing what strength you'll find when it's for someone else.

ew1990 · 24/09/2017 19:45

I have a massive phobia of needles if I'm the one having them, it's part of my job to take people's blood and I can do it no problem, @Bambi29 you do get the strength when it's did baby
