Hi All, I hope you don't mind me joining. I feel like I already know some of you as I lurked in the sidelines of a few of the MC threads last year. Congrats to you all.
Here's my history:
Have adorable DD aged 20 mos and had MC at 10 weeks on my birthday last August.
I'm now nearly 6 wks pregnant and due to see Dr tomorrow. Does anyone know if I will automatically be offered an early scan or is it likely I'll have to fight for it?
I am over the moon about this pregnancy but very cautious and you will all understand. Fortunately have very loving and understanding DH.
Uki - coincedence - my due date from pg that ended in MC was my DH's birthday, which is coming up in a couple of weeks.

Katsh · 18/02/2007 19:49

Welcome Hillbilly. Like you I had a mc at exactly 10 weeks last July, and I'm now 6 wks preg. My GP and midwife won't let me have an early scan, unless I bleed - which of course I am hoping is not going to happen. I'm trying to find out about other ways of getting a scan. Seems however to be a bit of a lottery, lots of people on this thread have been offered early scans, so I hope that you get one without the fight!

monalisasmile · 18/02/2007 21:57

I find it unbelieveble how difficult it can be gfetting an early scan post m/c. when I impressed on the gp and hospital that I was anxious because I was exactly at the stage that I had the prev 2 m/c, they basically said that it was no indication of mc this time! WHAT!

I was so stressed out by it that I followed some advice given here and told the hosp that I was in pain. Well it wasnt EXACTLY a lie, and not tempting fate, cos i WAS in pain, in my back and shooting pains at the top of my legs. THEY were the ones who assuned it was in my stomach...and they didnt even bother to ask!

I'd say do what you can to get an early scan if it will put your mind at rest and reduce your stress levels. I did on the basis that the stress I was going through was undoubtedly having a negative affect on me AND the baby(ies?). I cant believe how blaze and matter of fact the medics can be.

Good luck and hope that those who want it get the scan soon.

MrsFish · 19/02/2007 08:59

Morning all. Well I had my booking in with the mw on friday, and have my scan booked for 13th March, I will be 11 weeks then. I hate waiting though, just have to keep my fingers crossed that things will be ok this time.

I have had no more ms since last saturday and no other symptoms, also have not put any weight on yet (been trying not to pig out) the books reckon you only put 3-4 pound (baby weight) on in the first trimester so I am expecting to go up at some point, mind you not too worried if I don't as I have started off with more than I need anyway

Congrats to those that have had early scans, I hope it has helped put your minds at rest, I am just trying to remain positive. My due date is 1st October.

pinkranger · 19/02/2007 09:07

T4t - its here!!!!!!! - cant wait to hear your news. Good LUck !!

Hi to everyone else , Mrsfish your due date is my birthday!

Hope that eveyone is fine , i know its hard worrring about the scans as some gps are really understanding and others are not and dont seem to do anything different until you have had 3 m/c !
i had a bleed at 6 weeks and thats how i got my early scan but i dont think my midwife would have booked me one! I am also a worrery and have been going for private scans aswell and i am so pleased i have as i had my NHS one last monday and there eqipment is rubbish compared to private, i have my last private one today for the nuchal ( 1m 13+5)
Just push them for that scan ans if they dont and you can afford to go and have a private one, just to put all your minds at rest -

Hi uki, i have been thinking about waht you Gyne said about the 14 weeks, you must be there now ?? they are covering all aspects as i know they is conflict on when the second trimester is!

Can I just ask, for those of you who have gone for scans privately have you done it through private clinics, or does your hospital do private scans?
T4T - Have a great day!

pinkranger · 19/02/2007 10:56

katsh -
I went thorough a private centre , really good price , £50 for an early scan and £120 for the Nuchal, my friend wen through Bupa and they wanted a referal from the doctor and fpr Just an early scan they charged £120 - Worth googling places in your area x

Katsh · 19/02/2007 12:05

Thanks pinkranger - I can't seem to find anything very local - I'm in Surrey. Nearest may be London. I'll keep looking

Mumpbump · 19/02/2007 12:29

Morning all!! I seem to have missed something on this thread - is T4T booked in for an induction today or something???

Uki - pleased to hear that the due date wasn't too bad for you and that you had a nice evening out. I can well imagine that it helps to be pg again...

Katsch - where in Surrey are you? I seem to remember locating a private clinic for scans in Sevenoaks (Kent) which might be closer than London if you're in East Surrey. Otherwise, I agree with monalisa - lie if necessary! It had crossed my mind, but I could justify an early scan for dating purposes, the need didn't arise...

MrsFish - will you be in time to get the nuchal scan done if you want it? If not, I'd push to get your scan booked in. In my area, the doctor gives you the paperwork to get a scan, not the midwife.

Don't have time to go through the thread in detail, but hi to everyone else!!

Had a few achey pains in my tummy over the weekend which was a bit worrying, but they haven't developed into anything more severe and I keep telling myself it's just everything stretching. Feeling slightly nauseous from time to time which is about as much m/s as I get, so hopefully that remains a positive sign... Feeling nervous about Thursday - dh is talking about coming to the hospital and then taking the day off. I think it might be a good idea in case the news is not good. Not sure I will fancy going into work directly afterwards!

Otherwise, think I have a little bit of a bump - my bust has definitely got bigger again - hurray!!! It's like seeing old friends again! I'm still fitting into my normal clothes, but suspect I'll be into maternity stuff earlier than last time, all going well!!

Hillbilly · 19/02/2007 13:09

Had my dr's appointment this morning and was told that I will have to deal with the hospital directly re early scan. So now I will have to wait to see if my chosen hosp accepts meand go from there. Should know by the end of the week.
My due date is 18th Oct.
Well done to those who have had early scans - I may well investigate doing it privately.
Pinkranger - £50 seems like a good price for private scan.

Firststar - thanks for filling me in!!! Nothing important then - not!!! My scan is on Thursday, thanks for asking - will report back as soon as I get to work (or sooner if bad news...) Glad to hear that all is well with you! I get the general impression that you are quite a calm person and a good example to all of us!!!

Hillbilly · 19/02/2007 13:47

Firststar - thanks for scan info. My dr seemed pretty uninterested in early scan request. Said it's only if the hospital is concerned. Well I'm going to get on the case asap as I am concerned.

I don't know if anyone is around but am posting this for some quick opinions. I have my 9 week scan booked on Friday, but I am feeling really, really negative. I feel convinced that my baby is dead.
I suspected my discharge to be a bit too dark (not pink, more orange) last Thursday and then again yesterday but it was so subtle I tried to forget it. Then this morning I have had another spot and my discharge is very fertile-like but with just a hint of brown. It's not really blood, but there is a hint of colouration. Now this could be
a/nothing, just one of those things or
b/the beginning of the end.

I feel very down and very doom-laden and I just want to go an hide somewhere dark and be on my own.
What I need opinions on are whether to call the epu and see if they can bring my appointment forward to tomorrow or whether to wait until Friday's appointment. Part of me says there's no point in changing the appointment, it won't make any difference and will save me having MORE time off work, but the other part just wants to know if I am being hysterical or if I am right.

rubles · 19/02/2007 14:57

By the way, I will be making my decision at 3.15 after another trip to the loo

Thanks firstar, that is what dp has said.
It's so tough, I mean I know that spotting is common and relatively normal in a healthy pregnancy, but you only ever know in retrospect that it was a harmless bleed, at the time you don't know if it is the beginning of the end.

rubles - sorry only just seen this.

I had implantation bleeding from week 6 - 7 ish. I also had lots of cm in the first 12 weeks and it was sometimes discoloured.

I can totally understand the concerns you have. I had a 6 week, 9 week AND 12 week scan. All were fine. (Now 26)

Let us know how you get on. xx

Mumpbump · 19/02/2007 15:56

I know it's probably too late now as you were decision-making at 15:15!! I had dark bleeding shortly after my last period and think that it must have been old blood. So I think dark and therefore old blood might not be as significant as fresh bright red blood. But with both of my m/c, the bleeding was bright red, not dark. So, although I don't know, drawing on my personal experience, I would say that it might not be bad news and to try to think positively. Sorry if this is jumbled - typing in a rush...

Mumpbump · 19/02/2007 15:57

PS - try and get the scan brought forward as there is no point spending the week worrying... EPU should book you in directly if there is any bleeding, as I understand it...

rubles · 19/02/2007 16:27

Well I rang the epu and the woman said that as it was only spotting they wouldn't recommend bringing the scan foward but just monitor it (as if I wouldn't be!!!) in the meantime and ring them if it gets heavier. I just went with what she said and didn't push it, mainly because I wasn't 100% convinced about what I wanted to do.
I just have to watch and wait until Friday (which is my 9 week milestone).
