Afternoon all! Hope everyone okay.
Firststar its reassuring to know that hair is supposed to fall out - I can't believe how much I have forgotten about pregnancy! Every one has been different though.
ejb How's your new hair??? Had mine cut last year from halfway down back to a bob - DH loves it short. Do have to wash, dry and straighten it every day though because I look like I have stuck my finger in a plug socket in the mornings! Doesn't take long though - only 5-10 mins (depending how well I do it). When it was long all I did was pull it back wet into a ponytail so feel better with it shorter too - hadn't thought about post-birth photos though! I can just imagine it sticking up all over the show!!!
Pecka how are you doing today hun?
I am feeling a little more positive today although like you ejb I am trying to stay a bit detached until I get past the 'danger' dates. Apoke to a friend last night who said she had cramps and bleeding with both of her pgs quite early on and the midwife told her it was baby implanting deeper - similar to what they told me so perhaps it will be okay. I was quite sore last night but am much less crampy today and seem to be much more tired! Last night I stayed up to finish the ironing (only a little bit left), finished it, unplugged the iron - then woke up half an hour later with the plug still in my hand! Had a call from the hospital today replying to the message I left yesterday - they seem to have lost my scan request form! Fantastic. So I phoned the doctor to ask him to send another and apparently he has already sent 2, both got 'lost'. So still waiting on that...

Daisybump · 01/05/2007 21:07

Pecka...really feel for you....I had an empty sac at 10+5 when I had my first MC, but I knew before then it was all over as I'd passed some very big clots. As someone else says, it depends on how far along you are...if only a few weeks then there may still be some hope?...i just don;t know I'm afraid. How bad has your bleeding been?

Becklespeckle for your crap service...we have such great care here and it pisses me off when you read of how shitty it is elsewhere. When I was bleeding early in this pg I phoned the EPAU direct and they gave me an appointment for the very next morning....didn't even have to go through my GP. Keep us posted.xx

Hair....I must do sommething about mine its getting out of hand. I had it cut into a very short bob mid December adn all that has been done to it since is I've hacked t my fringe a couple of times. Mind you, if my birth is a repeat of DSs....nothing, and I mean nothing, is gonna make me look better. I still shudder when I look at the photos DH took the next day

PeckaRolloverAgain · 01/05/2007 23:39

Bleeding very very minor (like, not even red but a brown discharge)

I thought I was about 7 weeks but they think if it is ok i would have to be 5 or less, thats the bit im unsure of

i HAAAATE early pregnancy, not sure I will have it in me to try again if this one turns out the same as the last.

It is harder each time I reckon

Glimmer · 02/05/2007 09:51

Good morning everybody.

Pecka -- hi and welcome here. I have posted to you on the other thread. I am very sorry to hear about the bleeding, but it still can go both ways: I bled from week 3-7 and verything was fine. If things turn out bad, you will find the strength at some point to try again. It mighte take a while but it will come from somewhere. (Not sure if this is helpful, or one
of these unbearable support comments.) Al lot of strength for this hard time.

Daisybump · 02/05/2007 09:52

Brown discharge is good I was told...that means old blood and no fresh bleeding....I've got everything crossed for you. Dxx

Glimmer · 02/05/2007 09:53

Okay. What a bad timing in the thread but:
My 12-scan went well!! Everthing as it should be and a risk of Downs and Edwards syndrome that we are willing to accept and can life with. I had been crying for hours and hours every day in the last week and now I can't believe everything is fine! Am very happy.

Pecka - try not to stress too much about it. At this stage, things can change a lot in a couple of weeks. I went for an early scan at 8 weeks and they thought I was only 7 weeks. Then when I went for my 12 week scan, they thought the baby was bang on size for 12 weeks. It is still very early days...

Glimmer - fantastic news!!! SO pleased for you after having such a horrid week last week. Here's hoping for a safe and uneventful 28 weeks for you!!

Firststar - pleased to hear your back on for a normal birth. Must say that I am not looking forward to the labour - dh said he was to which I replied "what - you want to see me in pain again?". Of course what he meant is that giving birth is just an amazing accomplishment and if you can do it naturally, you recover so much quicker!

Beckle - can you just ring the scan department directly? That is what I did last time. This time, my form for an early scan got lost and I managed to persuade the doctor's to fax it to the scan department directly. Keep hassling them to make sure you get your scan!

All is reasonably well here. Bit p*ssed off with our au pair and thinking of letting her go earlier than the end of the month when she is meant to leave, but that's a different thread! Getting quite excited about our dinner on Saturday! Most of my good friends are going to be there so it should be a really good night, even without being able to drink that much!!!

rubles · 02/05/2007 13:34

Glimmer - that's just the best news. I am so pleased for you. Did you get a piccie? And if you did, are you daydreaming over it constantly?

I like what your dh said Mumpbump, it sounds like he is proud of you and what you achieved last time. He probably thought you were a rock-hard superwoman.
It's more helpful to have a birth partner with that attitude than one who is petrified of seeing us in pain and so pushing us in the direction of epidurals and c/s if that's not what we want.

Firststar, glad to hear you are under midwife care.

I hope it is just old/implantation blood Pecca. As I said before I have spotted plenty in all my pregnancies, unfortunately you only know in hindsight whether it was harmless spotting or a more serious kind.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 02/05/2007 13:47

Copied this from my antenatal thread what do you think

"I had my blood taken this morning, wont find out results from that til later this afternoon.

BUT the level on monday was 27,549 which strikes me as really high as last time my first reading was 816??? Dont know what to make of it and I suppose it makes no difference if they dont double.

Feel SO sick"

Mumpbump · 02/05/2007 13:49

I know that they say a sick pregnancy is a safe pregnancy and that statistically, if you have morning sickness, you are much less likely to miscarry. Sounds positive to me if your hormone levels are going through the roof and you're feeling like cr*p!!

gothicmama · 02/05/2007 14:18

Glimmer glad all is well

Glimmer · 02/05/2007 14:55

Thanks for all the good wishes!!! DH doens't come until the last day of May, so he wasn't there for the scan (but I rang him immidiately afterwards). Have some pics, but honestly, they are not all that good. Little one showed off by
moving his/her hand to the face (probably sucking thumb?).
Now here is something that I only realised after leaving the surgery. The consultant said at least once 'she'. Was way to excited about everything else to notice at the time. So my question is: was this a slip and he has a haunch (I know it's too early) or did he just use 'he' and 'she' in turns rather than 'it'. Either gender is welcome, just curious...

Fingernails · 02/05/2007 15:48

Glimmer, brilliant news. Been having lots and lots of worries lately - booking scan not for another fortnight, boo - and it's so good to see that things can go ok.

Pecka, fingers crossed for you (the bits I haven't chewed off, anyway).

Good vibes for everyone else.

Wow - having difficulties keeping up!

Glimmer - so pleased for your news

With the bleeding - I was told when I had a bleed earlier in this pregnancy, that as long as it's not prolonged and bright red, they tend not to worry too much.

Hair - mine was short, short, short (cropped) when ds was born - I looked like a pinhead - big bloated body (grey face) ... no wonder there are no photos with me in until ds was 3 weeks old! I have now grown my hair, and it's half way down my back - I find it makes my life easier as when I've been puking, I've just had to scrape it back into a ponytail, and I don't get puke in my hair. I wear my hair back every day for work - the school where I work has very high levels of deprivation and social problems, and there are lots of the children who have various tings living in theirs - which I obviously don't want! Also, wearing my hair back means that I have a handy holder for my pens and pencils ... I come home everyday with at least one of each sticking out of my hair!

Daisybump - back to your blanket - the action of the washing machine on a colours wash (agitation), as well as the temperature will have felted the last thing you put in by mistake. A wool cycle / handwash cycle doesn't have the same level of agitation, so should be ok - the idea of putting your tension square in to test it is a good one. I felt (on purpose) a lot of the things I make as they sell better than plain crocheted stuff (at least the things I make do anyway, but it's not what you would call 'traditional' stuff ...

Right, off to wash the aforementioned hair - it dries overnight - takes me nearly 1/2 to dry it with a hairdryer, so it's an overnight job (with a towel on my pillow to soak up the wet!)

love to all ... hope everybody stays keeping well!

Furrymummy · 03/05/2007 06:48

Hey everyone, Pecka please don't lose hope, are you booked to go for another scan?

Being feeling really sh!tty since Tuesday night, horrible migraine, so vomiting loads and not eating much, took day off yesterday, still feel ropey today but HAVE to go in coz of so much stuff to do at work, though will probably end up leaving early...

Glimmer · 03/05/2007 09:55

Fuhrymummy -- pleased to hear that you feel miserable (certainly only for it's implications ):-) ...

Fingernails -- sorry to hear about your worries. It's a hard time and two weeks seem like an eternity. Nobody knows better than I.

About hair... I am embarrassed to tell, but mine is thicker than it ever has been (and it's very fine normally and dries in 2min!!). Fully intend to show off and let it grow out. (I had short hair but now the long parts are reaching the shoulder.)

Mumpbump -- have a great get-together on Saturday.

becklespeckle · 03/05/2007 10:12

Morning all, Glimmer - glad all was well at your scan! Especially after how worried you were. Fingers crossed that the rest of your pg will go very very smoothly! I am not sure if they can see the gender of the baby at 12 weeks though, thought it was too small? Am no expert though!
Well anyway, I've got a date for my early scan now and it is next Wednesday morning. Am a little worried they won't see much as I'm sure I'm a fair few days less pg than my LMP would suggest but they said they do the scan at 7 weeks to allow for that. Will be very reassured if it is all okay as last time I missed m/c at 5 weeks. They have also told me I will get a dating scan at 10-12 weeks too, am hoping it will be at 12-13 as first missed m/c was at 12. I know I won't really feel confident about this bubba until I feel it moving though. Also, I know this sounds daft, but I am going to see Bryan Adams on Wednesday night but what if something is wrong at the scan? On the plus side I am starting to feel queasy, the smell of bread set me off yesterday lunchtime! Stomach just feels a bit shaky like when I'm hung over! Been starving at bedtime last 3 nights too (although last night had to force something down). Hope everyone else okay and babies growing nice and safely!

Mumpbump · 03/05/2007 10:33

Morning all!

Glimmer - does that mean dh will be around for the 20/22 week scan? You can see so much more on that one!

EJT - sympathise with not wanting to pick up any little friends. My dsd was plagued with them - her mum finally seems to have got on top of it - and I caught them at the end of last year. It was so awful!!! Just the most distracting thing ever!

Furrymummy - I echo Glimmer's sentiments! Pleased to hear that all your pg hormones are kicking in nicely!

Becklespeckle - likewise, if you're feeling sick, it's a good sign! Re: Bryan Adams, I think you just have to see how you feel...

Hi to everyone else. Ds was up at 05:45 this morning, but at least I got a load of housework done before leaving for work. Have sent our au pair a very neutrally worded email asking if she might like to leave earlier than the end of the month so waiting to hear back from her. The hassles of employing live-in help!

Hello all, sorry I haven't been around for a while - rl has been manic just lately!!!

Took me ages to catch up on this thread and I realised how much I have missed you all!

Hope your mum is doing OK mumpbump, really feel for you at such a difficult time (hugs)

Yes, I had major hair loss with DS1 and remember being gutted as I've always been very proud of my thick hair. Haven't noticed any increased hair loss this time though...

I've got quite a bit to report being as I haven't been on for a while!

Thrush - its been coming and going but I've managed to keep it under control with some canesten. Thankfully it just seems to be external but I do remember having to use pessaries when heavily pg with DD.

Have been feeling baby move this last week and had the first proper kicks last Friday. I was at my best friends house when it happened and she is 33 weeks and her bump started dancing around at the same time! Only thing was, baby was then very very quiet for the next couple of days so I got myself in a state thinking it had strangled itself with its umbilical chord and it was asking for help when it was kicking me. Thankfully it started moving around again on Tuesday and we had another bout of kicking that dh could feel on the outside - phew!!!

I've got my 20 week scan tomorrow morning and I'm ever so nervous although I can't explain why! I'm still amazed that I've got this far in and half expecting something awful to happen. At the same time, I can't wait to find out if this is a boy or girl so I can get on with bonding and getting ready for a new arrival - I guess I've not let myself accept this pg completely just yet.

pecka - hope things work out for you, I remember feeling completely out of control and not knowing what is going on - have you got another scan booked and have you had your second lot of bloods back yet?

I'd better get on with some housework - dh has started a new job so I booked today off so I could keep up with the house and take my mind off tomorrow morning...

Hello to everybody else and take care xoxoxox

Helloo

Glad all was grand with yr scan, Glimmer. Nah they wouldn't be able to tell the sex at this point - they just say he/she rather than it. I was convined when pg with dd that it was a lad - I'd had so many scans later on in the pg during which all the radiographers / midwives / doctors were saying he I thought it must be. Was v suprised he was actually a she.

I think I'm having a boy this time. Dh really didn't want to know from cvs (would know for sure from that - yr either xx or xy so no mistake!) so it was left out of our report. On booking in at hospital yesterday I saw in my notes (whilst mw went off to get some things for blood test) 'xy - apparantly normal male karyotype'! So that'll be a little lad then Aww I don't care anyway. Still a slither of uncertainty cos that could always have been a reference to dh from his bloodtests 2 years ago?? Didn't have time to snoop that deeply into file!

Pecka - have got everything crossed for you. Agree that brown blood is better sign. Had that myself last week but all seems fine now. was told that it was old blood either from cvs procedure or fibroid.

Hair is looking much better, ta! I spent 1 minute straightening the odd chunk of it and it looks fine. Haven't washed it myself yet though. That's the acid test! Oh when I was having it cut - I was gutted that the hairdresser asked me whether my hair had fallen out? Eeek! Hadn't thought so.
