Can I jump in here and ask for some help please?

I've been left totally confused after an early scan today. I've had a previous mc and am officially 6+1 but according to temps/opks am 5+1. Had very minor brown spotting a week ago so was referred to epu. They scanned me and found nothing. They did an hpt which they first said was negative then said was faint positive (I saw it and it wasn't as dark as control but it was pretty obvious positive for the cheapy doctor's tests). The midwife said I could have miscarried but not bled, has anyone heard of this?

I now don't know if I'm pregnant, not pregnant, awaiting a mc or just too early for things to show.

jaffacakes16 · 19/10/2016 16:09

Just to update I've been told bloods show it not to be viable. Hcg levels 67 and progesterone 1.7. Still confused about lack of bleeding and what these numbers mean.

Alb1 · 19/10/2016 16:27

Sorry jaffa no useful advice, so sorry that's it's not viable though. Have they ruled out ectopic? I no ectopic can mess with hcg levels but don't no enough about it to give any useful advice Flowers

jaffacakes16 · 19/10/2016 17:28

I'm not even sure if ectopic is ruled out, would an ectopic show up on a scan at 5 weeks? Kinda feel like I've been sent away without much of an explanation I didn't think a single hcg level even meant much without watching progression. Maybe that's where the progesterone comes in??

McBaby · 19/10/2016 17:35

Hgc of 67 sounds v low for 5+1 so they may be right in it being non viable but I would be pushing for further bloods to monitor how it progresses and a scan to rule out ectopic.

It might just be taking your body a while to realise you are not pregnant and then you will start bleeding.

jpeg28 · 19/10/2016 17:40

Jaffa I'm really sorry... definitely push for more bloods as in this pregnancy they took bloods early on as I was bleeding and they said it was about the rise rather than the exact values. Maybe call the EPU back tomorrow and see if they will see you again? Thinking of you.

MoonlightMojitos · 19/10/2016 18:00

Thanks newshoes for reassurance about the headaches. I've had awful cramps like period pains (plus every other type of pain down there too!) And I'm sure you'll be fine. Especially now you're getting further on it must really be starting to stretch and move around in there! I hope you don't mind me asking but your name rings a bell from ttc threads, am I right in thinking you're going this alone after IUI? Might be someone else sorry if I'm getting you confused and if so I hope you don't mind me asking!

whatsername that's so reassuring thanks :). I need to remember that, every pg is different stop comparing to others and don't trust the symptoms too much.

bec hope the midwife was nice. Sounds nice to have done a bit of shopping too! I can't wait to start that. Hoping I'll get some bargains in the Jan sales as I'll be starting to stock up on everything by then! My oh wanted to buy a steriliser yesterday as there was a tommy tippi one in the sale less than half price with loads of bottles, talk about getting carried away! I told him to wait a while yet. I'm not ready to be looking at things like that yet just in case. I know I shouldn't think like that but it's still so early on for us.

lynsey that's reassuring that you're further on than me and not rushing to get the flu jab, has your midwife mentioned it? I think I'll probably wait til I see her then.

jaffa I'm so sorry :(. Like the others have said I'd definitely call them and find out what the next stage is, that's really bad to leave you in limbo like that not knowing what to expect. I'd expect them to repeat the bloods to see if they are increasing/decreasing and monitor you and decide how to proceed from there. I lost my last pg about a week before I started bleeding so it can take a while for anything to happen. I know some people go for weeks before finding out at a scan that something has gone wrong but I really hope you get some answers soon. Thinking of you.

jaffacakes16 · 19/10/2016 18:25

Thank you all for your responses. The epu seem to have discharged me now, they just told me to do another Preg test in 2 weeks and that I may not bleed (which I'm finding really hard to get my head around). Will speak to my gp tomorrow. I don't feel like I can start to move on until I bleed or know that my hcg is dropping.

McBaby · 19/10/2016 18:43

Jaffa - you could go to your gp. And ask for another boood test for piece of mind and to help anxiety that it's going down and resolving it's self.

It took my body six weeks to bleed after the baby died. I only found out at 10 weeks that there wasn't a baby.

LynseyH · 19/10/2016 19:17

I'm actually due to see midwife next week so will see what she says then. I've just asked if she'd prefer me to postpone our appt with it being half term.
I've had it twice before with my boys and had no concerns either time. That's one thing I'm not actually concerned about!
jaffa I so hope you get some proper answers soon. Limbo is the worst place to be Flowers

doleritedinosaur · 19/10/2016 19:33

Jaffa if they've discharged you it's because you can absorb the products back into your body if they found nothing on the scan.
Sounds weird but it does happen, really sorry you're in limbo. Could see your GP about a blood test?

Moonlight you can have the flu jab anytime you want, I've had about 5 letters over it.

Got my whooping cough jab tomorrow In between 2 sessions of messy play for DS, anything to tire him out.

Thank you everyone who said I'm calm, I think the anxiety exercises, the hypnobirthing & the pregnancy yoga are all working to keep me level.
I know I can't change anything & got 12-14 weeks until I could potentially be put on bed rest so throwing myself into finishing the house.

Baby wakes up at 10pm every night, hope this schedule changes outside!

Hope everyone is doing okay.

Bec Next is so expensive but I love their babygros. Boxing Day sale is their next one but the babygros do go fast.

INeedNewShoes · 19/10/2016 19:41

Jaffa - I'm pretty sure that because you are quite early on that your body will just deal with it without the need for medical help. Sorry Flowers. Its an awful thing to go through and I'm sorry that the hospital left you unsure as to what would happen next.

On the subject of the flu jab, I've had it every year for over 20 years without any side effects ever apart from a slightly sore arm. I decided (probably for complete irrational reasons) to have this year's flu jab after my baby has done it's main neural/brain development so I'm waiting until after 12 weeks. This is based on no medical evidence whatsoever! I've booked to have mine at the start of November.

Moonlight - well remembered! That is me. Yes, I'm doing this on my own. This is my 4th IUI attempt using a fab clinic in Denmark and Danish donor sperm. I've remarkably become pregnant on every IUI but had a chemical pregnancy, then the MC at 11 weeks, then another chemical, and now this pregnancy. It has been somewhat of a rollercoaster!

dreamingaboutcheese · 19/10/2016 20:15

Jaffa I don't want to give you false hope but just to say EPU sent me away at 5 weeks with a negative urine test saying it must have been chemical and to wait for my period. I'd had one day of light bleeding. Four weeks later and I'm 9+2 with a viable pregnancy. I would ask for a repeat blood test 48 hrs after your last to double check it's not rising if you're feeling they might have got it wrong. Dr can do this for you too. Flowers After 2 chemicals, 1 MC @ 7 wks and the confusion over this pregnancy all this year, I know how you're feeling.

MoonlightMojitos · 19/10/2016 21:37

newshoes that's amazing! I remember you saying about having to book a flight asap to get out in time that cycle! Must have been a crazy few months for you recently, well done you for staying sane. Have you got anyone close in irl for support?

Thanks for flu jab advice, I think I'll just wait til I see the midwife. I just suffered so bad with the cold I had when I first got my BFP that there's no way I could cope with flu! I've never had it before so fx anyway!

theAntsareMyFriends · 20/10/2016 08:49

Sorry for not catching up properly. Just going to update and run. Had a successful 12 week scan yesterday. I so happy. I'd prepared myself for the worst and was over the moon to see the right size baby with a strong heartbeat. It was jumping around and kicking and refused to get in the right position so the scan took ages and I got to watch its little face looking towards us. Measuring 12+5 but in my area they don't change your due date unless you are over a week out so still officially due 1st May. Convinced its a boy although I would be happy with either. Will try to put up a scan pic when I'm not at work as not telling anyone here for a while.

Sah1987 · 20/10/2016 08:54

So glad it's good news for you, I am so worried about saturday, I just keep thinking, I'm still pregnant I'm still pregnant, but I keep imagining the worst, every pull and tickle. Just want to know now! At least I could prepare myself

dreamingaboutcheese · 20/10/2016 09:06

Congrats Ants. Must be such a relief.
Keep strong Sah, you're nearly there. I'm the same leading up to a scan. Try and stay positive.

Is anyone else here on Cyclogest btw?

Badgerbird · 20/10/2016 11:12

jaffa just wanted to say sorry for what you're going through. Sounds very upsetting and confusing. I hope you get to the bottom if it sooner rather than later.

ants that's fantastic news :) nearly 13 weeks, woohoo!

I'm on cyclogest cheese......

Alb1 · 20/10/2016 11:46

Congratulations on the scan ants

I'm abit behind on here, been having trouble with the site, it's rubbish on my phone!

5+2ish today, got an appointment with the GP tomorrow to try and push for an early scan seen as they wouldn't do repeat bloods. Can't wait for these early weeks to pass if we make it that far! Because we lost DD at 35 weeks there will never be a safe point for us in this pregnancy but somehow I think the first trimester is still the most torturous!

jpeg28 · 20/10/2016 18:03

Great news Ants on the scan!

Alb and Sah hang in there!! An early scan sounds like a good idea Alb just to put your mind at ease. I had a few at around 5-8 weeks because I was bleeding but it was so good just to see the little heartbeat flicker to put my mind at ease.

Feeling very fat today! Think people at work thought I must have put on weight today as my bump has popped! Just looks more like a fat belly though right now, want it to be a real bump!

LynseyH · 20/10/2016 18:17

jpeg I had a fair few people saying I had popped this past week! I'm told it's much more noticeable than before.
I was weighed recently and told I've only gained 2kg since I was 8 wks and now I'm 24 weeks tomorrow. I don't think that's too bad is it?!
I felt ok with it!

OP posts:
jpeg28 · 20/10/2016 18:26

Wow Lynsey that's amazing if you've just popped at 24weeks!! I'm only 14+4! Definitely eating a bit too much I think though! I've put on about 3lb since the start so not bad but I'm sure by 24 weeks I'll have put on a good stone!!

MoonlightMojitos · 20/10/2016 19:13

jpeg 3lbs?!!! 😂. I've put on 4lbs in 3 weeks lol! Eating is the only thing helping the nausea!!! I'm going to be a whale by the end of first trimester at this rate!

ants congrats on the scan! Great news :)

LynseyH · 20/10/2016 21:45

I thought I was showing much more than people are telling me! I have been wearing my normal jumpers so now they are more snug maybe that's why people are only just starting to see it more. Or maybe they are just polite!!
3lb and 4lb is nothing ladies, I was eating to combat the nausea too in the early stages and thought I'd be huge but things seem to have evened themselves out.
My nausea snacks consisted of lots of salt and vinegar crisps so not like I was healthy either Blush
Can't stand the idea of crisps now but seem to have a new love of chocolate. Could take or leave it before.
I hate planning my meals at the moment. All seems too much like hard work.
Loving fruit juices though!

Mmm chipsticks are my thing at the mo :). I usually have a massive sweet tooth but am completely off anything sweet, all salty and savoury! I'm hoping after the sickness goes I will even out a bit too and not gain much 2nd trimester. Not really worried about it at the moment though as long as baby is healthy :). I've already put on nearly a stone this year since I came off the pill and quit smoking so might as well put on a bit more lol.
