Hi Girls

We found out on Good Friday that we're expecting our first child and we won't be telling our parents for a few weeks so for now I thought it was worth starting a thread so I've got a place to get excited about all things baby with people due at a similar time - without chewing DH's ear off about it constantly. Bless him he's excited too but I seem to want to talk about nothing else right now which is hard seeing as we're the only ones that know our little secret!

My EDD is 2nd December according to the NHS website which makes me 4+5, and I've got my first doctors appointment this Friday. I understand they won't really do or say a lot but think they'll refer me to the midwife? Or do I do that myself?? Anyway, I'm excited!!!

Hope everyone's feeling good and upbeat, looking forward to some due date buddies to chat to Smile

Glad (but sad) I'm not the only one worrying about splitting and managing finances.

Brought the conversation up a couple of days after finding out and spent 3 days arguing and he stayed a friend's for a couple of nights.

He earns much more than me, but I'm much more financially secure because it's been my priority for a long time and he's divorced with a 17 and 22yo and so still contributing 60-70 percent of his salary to his ex wife.

My fear is that he's going to leave me to pay for the baby and is relying on me to do so because I'm resourceful. Still, my salary will only be my basic for 6 months and then stat for 3 and nothing for 3 and his maintenance settlement doesn't end for another 4 years.

My job is incredibly high pressure and I'm not confident I want to go back to it after baby. I don't want to do it now but trapped by the money and mortgage - I own our flat and another property as well.

He's assured me 'it will be alright' but I've spent my life grafting to ensure it where as he's drifted along and met someone who guarantees his financial security

Perhaps this is just our role in the relationship - annoying tho and doesn't make me feel secure and peaceful. Id be so happy if he guaranteed he'd pay half but he's not given me that guarantee and told me to save

Rugby01 · 16/04/2016 11:57

jilly - oh how difficult for you. I'm sorry it's been so hard to discuss it all with your OH. I think the OHs often (not all I am sure!) just don't always think about the impact it has on us financially really. Plus we naturally look ahead a bit more as it is actually happening to our bodies/jobs. I sympathise with how difficult it can be to discuss these things, especially with hormones and emotions running high... Feel free to rant on here. You certainly aren't the only one. Cake

Vb87 · 16/04/2016 14:25

Does anyone else feel like time has stopped since getting that BFP?

With the money issue, my DH earns nearly 3 times what I do but I've always been very independent when it come to money. When we decided to to start TTC we made a list of all our outgoings and income and included periods of time with maternity pay and nursery fees etc and we just said whatever was left after all bills had been paid we would split 50/50 regardless of who's money it was. Still not sure how I feel about it though because about 85% of what's left over will technically be DH...

FluffyPickleMonster · 16/04/2016 14:35

Hey ladies, can I join your club please? Congrats to you all. Got my BFP this morning and think I should be due 18/12 with baby number 1, my honeymoon baby! I was going to leave it a few weeks before going to the GP as I'm aware things could change, does that sound like a good plan? How quickly are you booking in?

Rugby01 · 16/04/2016 15:28

Welcome fluffy! I got my appointment with GP about s week after my missed period. Then he referred me to midwife who I have my 'booking in' appt with next week (end of week 8). So I don't think you need to wait!

vb - I know what you mean! I want the next four weeks to go quickly!! I have no symptoms apart from evening nausea and sore boobs so I often forget about it completely on a busy day! Fingers crossed for all of us to make it through the hardest trimester!

Good that you have got it all sorted with OH regarding finances. I know what you mean about pooling it and sharing it out when it will mostly be their money. I am also anxious as, like many people, I've always been fiercely independent even with splitting bills at dinner etc. So it will be tough but I guess we have to remember it's the system - biologically and administratively - to make the woman pay! Ha! Though I obviously revelling in it at the moment - I am so excited! 😀

gumdropss · 16/04/2016 16:10

Hi Fluffy and congratulations! I had to register at a new surgery as I moved house recently, and when registering I just asked the receptionist what the process was. She just wrote a note in the midwife's diary and a few days later the midwife gave me a call to arrange booking appointment. I guess the process varies from county to county but I'd think that unless you had a specific concern you needed to see the doctor about, perhaps just check with the surgery first x

FluffyPickleMonster · 16/04/2016 17:30

Thank you Rugby and Gumdrops! I'm still in shock really! I think I'll call the surgery next week and see what they say. I've got a smear booked actually so I'm guessing I'll have to cancel that. I just didn't want to go too early in case it doesn't work out. I'm getting quite a bit of pain and cramping on my right side, Google tells me that this is common but are any of you getting it too?

FluffyPickleMonster · 16/04/2016 18:02

Oh I just read the previous posts and see that there's lots of talk of cramping, phew! That's reassuring, sorry should have looked first.

Stupid question I'm sure but I'm not sure how many weeks I am, can you help?!.... It's three weeks exactly since I ovulated (27th March) but I don't have a 28 cycle so last period was 16th March, ovulation was on day 12. Do I still say 5 weeks even though my period wasn't two weeks before ovulation?! Sorry for being a bit thick, this is my first pregnancy and I can't work it out. Hmm

cnchapmanxx · 16/04/2016 19:49

Hi girls!!

Found out today I'm 4 weeks 2 days.. Got my bfp after AF didn't appear today! Worked out I would be due Boxing Day! Any one else due around then? Congrats to everyone else who's pregnant ❤️❤️❤️FlowersFlowers xxx

ermmm · 16/04/2016 22:16

Congrats fluffy & cnchapman.

Today I woke up really ready to take on a marathon. Had nephew over for a sleepover so we went for a morning stroll in the park.
Early evening I got so tired but mum popped over. Didn't really want to tell anyone till after 8/10weeks but couldn't resist lol.
Anyone else thinking of holding off telling fam ?

Of the boobs are a bit sore today. Sickness is still through out the day here😩. Hope that subsides but with DD I was suffering from sickness even before AF was due.

ermmm · 16/04/2016 22:16
  • and all through pregnancy
Rugby01 · 17/04/2016 07:28

Hi ermm - I have only told very close family. I decided that if it didn't work out I'd need their support anyway. fluffy- not sure about all the dates calculations either! Sure the midwife will tell you. cnc - congrats. You will have a memorable Christmas!

Rugby01 · 17/04/2016 07:29

My worry for the day is whether I took my prenatal last night and if I didn't should I take one this morning, or is that bad! Oh dear....

FluffyPickleMonster · 17/04/2016 08:26

Ermm- thanks! We've decided we're not telling a soul until the 12 week scan, I like the fact it's our secret at the moment because as soon as family and friends know it will be all they can talk about. Also want to save them from unnecessary heartache if it doesn't work out.

Rugby- I've decided that as its 38weeks from conception and the first two weeks are just added to help work out when ovulation and conception was that I'm going to say I'm 5weeks today, until the midwife corrects me! I've taken two prenatal vitamins at opposite ends of the day before when I've forgotten, can't see it being a big deal, for example they don't tell you not to eat certain veggies whilst taking them so you could easily be getting the vitamins from elsewhere. Also do you live in Rugby or just like it?!

Cnchapman- congratulations! I think I'm due around 18th Dec so just before you.

Kajlo · 17/04/2016 09:39

Congrats to all newbies on the thread - so exciting!

Helbelle - well done on doing all that dancing! and Clarabelle, I think I might end up going down the walking and swimming route too. I've cancelled a few body pump classes for now, mainly because I'm dead tired in the evening.. but will try to get back to that, though with significantly lighter weights. Aqua aerobics also seems ok, and a bit of pilates.

And helbelle, piles here too.. Hmm, otherwise I've got sore breasts, serious tiredness, lots of cramps all around though getting better, shortness of breath, random hunger pangs, and... a fair bit of bad temper... (due to tiredness, I think.. poor DH)

About money, it's a tricky one, but as we've tried for so long, and also were prepared to go down the adoption route we've had all of these conversations already, and DH fully understands what's involved. Having done the maths we'll have to do with my being off for 26 weeks, and then back to work + nursery or we'll be in trouble - neither of us have family anywhere near us, which is making it really tricky.

fluffy welcome! I'm having my first GP appointment on Tuesday (waited 2 weeks) - cant wait to get the ball rolling now though :)

FluffyPickleMonster · 17/04/2016 09:51

kajlo I'm going to call gp on the morning, I was going to wait but if I have to wait ages for an appointment it will drive me mad. My surgery is really small but I chose it as the gp there specialises family health. How many weeks are you?

bumbleclat · 17/04/2016 20:08

It is all so exciting!
I had a bit of intermittent brown spotting I've read that this is normal for the fifth week so fingers crossed!
I've just been planning the clearing of my credit card within the next 9 months and shall try to buy a years worth of car tax, insurance to get rid of most of my monthly outgoings before DH is supporting us.
I wouldn't feel comfortable with him paying my credit card off each month.
I wish I had been more organised and saved money but I think we're going to be okay.
I'm so preoccupied with this new pregnancy that I haven't got any planning done today (Im a teacher!)
Will have a (warm) bath and start soon, I can go in very early tomorrow and get the rest done.
Congratulations everyone Christmas babies here we come!

FluffyPickleMonster · 17/04/2016 22:44

I hope you enjoyed your bath bumble, I've heard that 5-6 weeks is common to start spotting too. I'm 5+1 so am bracing myself for it, I'm kind of avoiding the toilet as much as possible! Sounds like you're being sensible with your credit card, I had lots of debt years ago and it feels amazing when it's paid off, at least you have a plan!

ermmm · 17/04/2016 22:47

Was surprised to hear hubby all excited about the baby... I did share my concerns of my health and he said 'u just give birth and let us take care of u both' lol.
It's not even 6 weeks and he is getting the kids to help out around the house- mainly to be responsible for their own stuff a bit more. Like 'mum where's my PE kit' lol.
Thank goodness money here is not a main concern as hubby has been the sole earner for nearly 10 years now due to my past health problems. I was the main earner before the babes came and have always been a saver so still have a safety nest hidden away from then -14 years ago 🤓.

Obviously expenses will go up but am hoping his salary will stretch to cover it... Plus helps I'm a frugal person -

Kajlo · 18/04/2016 07:29

fluffy I'm 5 and a half weeks, though feels significantly more than that! With all the cramping, twins in the family (my mum and uncle are fraternal twins...my gran would have been in exactly this situation + a few weeks exactly 70 years ago), and being 35 Im starting to wonder whether I might be having two.. yikes! Now obsessed with the thought!

I hope you manage to get a GP appointment soon. Great you've found a family oriented GP though :)

cnchapmanxx · 18/04/2016 08:12

Morning girls Smile

Well I've been up since half 6 this morning, last week I couldn't get out of bed and was going to sleep at like 10!! Not had as much cramping yday as I did on Saturday.. Always worried something is up! :/ this early pregnancy stuff isn't good for my health haha!
Off to see the dr today which more than likely they will just say congrats and nothing else but excited haha!

How is everyone? Xxx

Helbelle75 · 18/04/2016 08:33

Morning cnchapman! Yep, with you on the constant worry that something is wrong.
At my dr's appointment, he took my blood pressure, felt my tummy, said congratulations and that was it! Booked in my midwife appointment though, so that's exciting. It's not until a week on Thursday, and I'm so impatient for it!
Hope your dr's appointment goes well.
kajlo - I felt a lot more pregnant than I was a couple of weeks ago, due to the bloating. There are twins on my mum and dad's side, so like you I'm pretty obsessed with the thought now.

cnchapmanxx · 18/04/2016 08:43

helbelle isn't it horrible! And the fact we have to wait until 12 weeks to hear a heartbeat 😢 Oh how very exciting bet you can't wait Hun! Is this your first??

fluffy I didn't see your earlier post until this morning thankyou! You must be around same as me then about 4/5 weeks?

Xx

ermmm · 18/04/2016 08:53

Woke this morning to some serious spotting. Cancelled my walk so I can rest.
Going to try to get an appointment to gp.
Finding out so early in of pregnancy has made me anxious and mind is running wild with what can go wrong...

cnchapmanxx · 18/04/2016 08:59

erm bless you Hun. How far are you?
Isn't it normal for spotting or is it heavy? Defo get a dr appt of if you can't get one maybe th walk in? X
