Hi Girls

We found out on Good Friday that we're expecting our first child and we won't be telling our parents for a few weeks so for now I thought it was worth starting a thread so I've got a place to get excited about all things baby with people due at a similar time - without chewing DH's ear off about it constantly. Bless him he's excited too but I seem to want to talk about nothing else right now which is hard seeing as we're the only ones that know our little secret!

My EDD is 2nd December according to the NHS website which makes me 4+5, and I've got my first doctors appointment this Friday. I understand they won't really do or say a lot but think they'll refer me to the midwife? Or do I do that myself?? Anyway, I'm excited!!!

Hope everyone's feeling good and upbeat, looking forward to some due date buddies to chat to Smile

cnchapman yes it's my first, at the tender age of 40, so even more anxious! I am very fit and healthy though, so hope that helps.
ermmm hope you get in at the dr's

mamof32b · 18/04/2016 09:14

Hi can I join, just found out due 21/12, very early days. I'm in Ireland (anyone else?) so different procedures with appointments and the like from the uk. This thread is so long, off to read it in full to get to know what's happening. Smile

cnchapmanxx · 18/04/2016 10:06

helbelle aw my god that is amazing!! I'm 26 been married 3 year i only came off the pill in Dec didn't think it'd happen this quick! Same here I go to the gym 3 times a week and try to eat well but it's gone out the window this weekend haha!

Hi mam2be aw congratulations you should be same as me I'm due around Boxing Day! Exciting! X

Helbelle75 · 18/04/2016 10:26

Yes, we got married in October and only starting ttc in January. It's happened much quicker than we thought but we're over the moon!
Welcome mamof32b, congratulations!

Rugby01 · 18/04/2016 13:41

Oh ermm - hope you are ok. Did you get an appointment with the GP? I hope it's reassuring and you feel less anxious now.

hellbelle - I know what you mean about thinking about twins! That would be an interesting twist! How would you feel about it?

I wish I could tell people at work... So much planning going on for the months ahead and I just want to say 'nooooo'!!

Helbelle75 · 18/04/2016 13:57

rugby01 I'd be delighted with twins to be honest! I'm probably a little mad.

Can't stop panicking that something's going to go wrong. I've not had any sickness yet, so it doesn't quite seem real yet.

Kajlo · 18/04/2016 17:06

helbelle - I know how you feel, I would be delighted too! (I'd never have to go through all this again for starters..) Though also a bit worried as not feeling sick yet. I suppose every pregnancy is different though.

rugby - with you on the work business, we've done lots of planning ahead today and I've had a hard time keep my mouth shut! Especially when dividing tasks over the new year... or setting dates for meetings in early 2017.. yikes! Here's hoping I wont make any of those meetings. Wink

bumbleclat · 18/04/2016 17:31

I was taking seven seas trying for a baby pre conception tablets before I conceived- should I carry on taking them will they suffice as my daily dose of folic acid? I'm confused!

I just went to the Dr for a follow up on some unrelated blood tests I had before I got the BFP, she just said book in with a midwife for your sixth week.
I really don't want school to find out (I'm a teacher) and I think they will if I keep going for appointments.
When are you telling your bosses?
Thanks in advance :)

Helbelle75 · 18/04/2016 17:42

I'm a teacher as well bumbleclat and I think I'm going to tell my line manager this week (I'll be 7 weeks) as I want them to look out for me really. They'll probably be cross as I only started there last June, but ho-hum!

bumbleclat · 18/04/2016 18:18

Thank you, that's a nice positive way of looking at it :)
I know that my head will be supportive but it's just bothering me that I might be treated differently I hate being the focus of attention too.
Maybe I'll just tell the head in a couple of weeks.

FluffyPickleMonster · 18/04/2016 18:28

cnchapman I'm 5+2, I think! Due date is 18th according to the NHS pregnancy calculator!

kajlo I did get appointment sorted thank you. I rang gp surgery and they booked me in with the midwife, the annoying thing is she's only available on a Tuesday morning, they offered me tomorrow but I can't make it and they're booked up next week so I'm booked in for the 3rd instead. That will mean I'm 7+2 for my first appointment, I thought that was quite late? Ooh, how exciting about the thought of twins!!

Hi to everyone I haven't met yet! Smile my day started of crappy as I slept in by a whole 2.5hours!!!! Was only 40mins late for work though but have been flustered all day! My day got better though as I came home today and my wonderful DH has bought himself a pregnancy book for men, bless him! He said that he hasn't got a clue about anything and wants to be able to help me, aww!

Rugby01 · 18/04/2016 18:33

helbelle - I didn't start feeling sick til week 7. And even now it's only in the evening so I shouldn't worry. I make the most of it though, when getting OH to do his share around the house Grin.

ermmm - how are you doing?

Has anyone signed up to NCT classes in your area yet? I keep signing up and then being asked to pay but don't want to until 13 weeks!

Kajlo · 18/04/2016 18:40

bumbleclat - on pre-conception tablets, Im still on them too - at least the packaging says it's ok but will ask my GP tomorrow and let you know.

On telling work - I've decided on waiting until the first scan or week 12, whichever comes first. I know that my line manager will freak out (though be privately happy for me) - as we're really stretched for staff and funds on the team, and I'd like to keep the freaking out to when I'm more certain of everything going ahead as hoped. Though if there was a strategic meeting about resource/task allcoations that where my not tellilng would have a serious impact on the running of our organisation, I would tell.

Kajlo · 18/04/2016 18:46

fluffy - glad you got an appointment :) Though shame it's so far ahead... but at least your first will be with a midwife who will be able to say/do things, whereas my GP appointment will be an appointment for a referral to a midwife... roundabout way of doing it really.

Aww, wish my DH would buy himself a book too - how sweet :)

mamof32b · 18/04/2016 20:22

Yay cnchapmanxx bump buddies. I will be having a section so will probably go a week or so before due date. Exiting times.

FluffyPickleMonster · 18/04/2016 21:27

kajlo I know bless him. I'm scared to death so it must be hard for all of the DH's too.

I'm thinking of booking an early viability scan around 8weeks to help calm my nerves. I can't wait until 12 weeks to find out what I've got going on in there. Anyone else thinking of doing the same or had one? I've googled companies where I am (west midlands) and there's plenty, looks to be about £70-£90 which I thought was reasonable??

cnchapmanxx · 18/04/2016 22:54

fluffy aw lovley yep mines says Boxing Day! Are you having twins?

mamof32 yay! I'm so exited! I sort hope I come befor my due date really don't want to be spending Boxing Day in hospital but st that point I won't care haha!

Anyway I had to tell work today because of my job, my boss was over the moon so all good!
Went to the Drs today what a pointless appt, he said congrats gave me a number for the midwifes who only open 9-10am mon-fri haha what use is that.. Then prescribed me folic acid. 8.50 for 28 pills when they sold 90 for 99p in the same chemist 😂😂

Cramping is on and off today don't feel hungry at all just eating for the sake of it. And so thirsty!
Hope everyone else is ok xxx

FluffyPickleMonster · 18/04/2016 23:11

Not that I know of cnchapman !!! It was kajlo who was saying that twins run strongly in her family, not in mine though, it would be lovely obviously but one baby is scary enough for a first timer like me!

Hira87 · 18/04/2016 23:42

Hi Girls!!! My DD is 6/12 ac to nhs calculator. M seeing my midwife 2 weeks later.the condition is so hard for me. Really can't eat, Tired like crazy...what about you ladies!!!

Rugby01 · 19/04/2016 06:21

Hi All. fluffy - I wasn't sure about the early scan either. I think I will wait. Though I am tempted. What have you decided to do?
cnchapman - glad work were positive for you! And at least it's out in the open now. Well done.
Welcome hira. I've got similar DD as you!
helbelle - have you told work yet?
I was carrying a load of stuff around at work today and wondered if I should be more careful. Hmmm.

Looking forward to hearing how everyone's booking in appotments go! I've got mine on Thursday! Can't wait - mainly as it means time is moving on. Why is this four weeks slower than the tww?! Normally work speeds up time but I can't seem to make it go any quicker....

Waves to everyone.

Helbelle75 · 19/04/2016 06:47

Hi rugby, I have a meeting tomorrow, so will let you know how it goes.
Hope everyone has a good day

Kajlo · 19/04/2016 06:57

Welcome hira! Very very very tired here too, sore breasts, hunger pangs, funky mood swings, and had lots of cramps over the past two weeks, but fortunately they've gone down a lot. Just wondering where the morning sickness is... probably next week when traveling Wink

Rugby01 · 19/04/2016 07:17

Kajlo - yes that'll be it! Sickness when you least want it! Actually I find I feel most nauseous when travelling or just after eating. Hmmmm.

God luck at your booking in tomorrow - helbelle! 😀

ermmm · 19/04/2016 08:02

Morning all. . Haven't had any sickness last two days after having been sick all the time😃. Not wanting to eat anything at all .The tiredness has finally caught up
Woke the Dc for school this morn and DS tells me by the time he got up I was snoring away again... ( I don't snore but dream of motorbikes😊).

lisacatjohnson · 19/04/2016 09:35

Can I join? According to NHS, due on 9th Dec. I'm going insane Googling stuff...this is my first, found out one week before my wedding (which was last weekend) that I was pregnant...talk about timing! I thought it would take a while on account of my Endometriosis.

Very excited/nervous/anxious...I haven't really had any symptoms other than being very tired which is also worrying me. If you can't tell already, I'm a bit of a worrier :)
