It hasn't occured to me to order a range of nursery furniture - surely the only baby-specific thing you need is a cot? For the first 6 months the baby will be in our room anyway (in a moses basket, then a cot) and after that I can't see us needing any extra house-type stuff apart from a new chest of drawers, a colourful rug, a couple of pictures and mobiles etc.

I'm going to Ikea tomorrow to get the cot - they've got one for £40ish.

trixymalixy · 03/01/2007 06:22

That's what I thought at first as well Lazyemma, we were just going to get an Ikea cot, an over cot changer and a normal (i.e. not baby) chest of drawers and wardrobe. But by the time we added it all up it came to nearly the same as just buying the Murano range which came with a cotbed, which'll save us going out and buying another bed at some point later.

Plus we didn't like any of the Ikea cots.

We've been lent a moses basket for the first few months and baby will be in our room.

It's just nice to have the nursery all decorated and ready before we get really skint. Only just started my mat leave and panicking about money already, we spent far too much at Xmas!!

geordiemacmincepie · 03/01/2007 09:04

Morning all!!

We thought the same, that it would be cheaper to buy a normal set of drawers and wardrobe, but you are right, by the time you add all the stuff up it isnt short of £400, plus like you we are thinking that if we get it now while I'm still working rather than having to pay out in a years time.

My mum has bought travel system and is buying moses basket so we have been quite lucky!!

well, we braved Ikea today and didn't get much change out of £90. We did alright though: we got a cot, a cute net thing to hang over it, a mattress, mattress protector, fitted sheets, and some bibs.

I think you've both got a point about spending the money now whilst we're working. So far my biggest expenditure has been on re-usable nappies, bizarrely - approx £150 - but should hopefully work out cheaper in the long run.

geordiemacmincepie · 03/01/2007 14:23

We tried to go yesterday, managed next home... total waste of time, so by that point I couldnt even contemplate ikea... it was mobbed over there!!! I only needed some of those big storage bags as my handbags (all 38 of them) are in the process of being eveicted from the spare room in favour of baby stuff!!!

Did they have much else in the way of nursey sets.. wardrobe changer etc? If not then you will save me a night time visit..

hi everyone!!! hope you all had a very happy xmas and happy year. My hushands family stayed for a few days so we had 9 ppl in our house ...wasn't easy cooking for 9 but we all had a very good time except that it was so windy on new year day that our dish moved and so we couldn't watch sky so nothing good to watch on telly...sky will send staff to fix it tomorrow but charge us £65,,,bit unlucky!

LJK-we've bought the M & P omni range before xmas from the PRAM centre...they are nice..our nursery is nearly finished and we've bought a pram already..only need to buy a moses basket. Think i am going to hire a TENS cos WO said its good.

i am getting bigger as well..like you WO - i feel like i am waddling around
!!!

lazyemma · 03/01/2007 15:41

geordie, they had a sort of large chest of drawers with a top shelving section - like a miniature dresser - with a folding-out changing shelf for about £67. It was a sort of dark pine and was very nice - I was tempted. Other than that, I didn't see much in the way of nursery sets, but then I wasn't looking. Maybe try looking on their website.

Anjo1 · 03/01/2007 19:22

Hi all, I'm expecting no2 in June, have dd who is coming up 16 months. We're in Dumfries but usually live in Aberdeen - we've been down here for a year with dh's job, heading north again start of next month.

Nice to see Miaou and susi2 on here and congrats - I've not posted on our post-natal thread for what seems a lifetime so very behind on chat! Hope you're both keeping well.

Twiga · 03/01/2007 19:32

oh and meant to say congrats on the safe arrival of your wee boy Lolli!

LJK · 04/01/2007 22:10

Got our nursery furniture delivered today and hung up all the clothes I've bought aswell as a wee bear - still to get pictures for wall and a matress for cotbead but starting to look like a real room. Went pram shopping yesterday - wot a nightmare - way too many to choose from but knew I wanted a travel system with a car seat that could go straight onto the frame so ended up between the Quinny Buzz and the Loola - eventually after about 3 hours in the pram centre, decided on the Quinny Buzz - hope I made the right choice?!? Getting it delivered in March which will give me a few weeks so suss out the car seat etc - other people ordered prams yet? Also, I like the look of a Fisher Price Bath that I saw that you can use from birth to toddler - anyone know if it's worth getting? xx

geordiemacminx · 05/01/2007 09:49

Hey ladies!!

All well over here, just incredobly bored with work and life in general!!!

LJK, which nursery furniture did you go with? I (well my mum) ordered the m&p travel system just before xmas as it was reduced from £450 to £230... wasnt expecting it to come quite so soon... the day after boxing day!! Still not to worry, its in her loft as I'm a bit supersticious about having it in the house until wee man is here!!

Re the fisher price bath thing... is it like an inflatable boat thing? Have seen it and was quite impressed, although think we might just go for a normal baby bath for the time being so he can be bathed downstairs.. although you might be able to do that with the FP one, depends on how sturdy the sides are?

WO...aint heard from you in a while, drop me an email and let me know how you are getting on!!!

Anjo, hope you are ok, not long to go now!! If there is anything I can do to help you move then just give me a shout... although not sure how much use I would be.. you could always come and hide at my house til everything was moved and unpacked!!

lollipopz · 05/01/2007 12:08

Hey all thanks for all the messages, JJ is doing great, back up to his birth weight and feeding like a trooper!!
Hope you are all doing well, not so long to go now esp anjo! good luck and i will keep popping in to see how you are all getting on xx

Anjo1 · 05/01/2007 13:58

Thanks for the offer GMM
I think DP's mum has got it covered and I'm to stay at her house while DP and his dad move everything.Hopefully baba won't be here yet as I will be, strictly speaking, full term by then ( wee bit worried about that ).Other than being bored , how are you keeping ? when do you start your ML?
Lolli - Good to here all is well with you and JJ

geordiemacminx · 05/01/2007 14:11

Pleased they are looking after you!!!

Not for agesssssssssssssssssssssss yet!!! 12 weeks or something rubbish like that...although we have just booked 5 nights in Barcelona for Feb so that will break up the time a little bit!!!

Will it be ok to come and see you once the little one is here? Have a practice at holding a real life one?

bananasarny · 05/01/2007 14:58

hi all,

Happy new year!

Congrats on baby JJ lolly thats wonderful, sounds like it was all pretty straightforward thats great!! (thats really encouraging for all of us)!!

bananasarny · 05/01/2007 15:05

Hi just general question but how 'big' is everyone?

I'm 22ish weeks and feel so chunky!! I cant believe I'm going to get any bigger, my waist has practically disappeared already and I'm feeling enormous and waddling, my stomach feels big too, all pushed up - any body else getting shocked by their size. Did ask MW if I was normal for dates last time and she said yes, but then again, that was before Xmas!! I've had to go and buy more tops, the usual ones just aint doing it now!

Anybody on the gaviscon already?

geordiemacminx · 05/01/2007 15:16

I think I'm pretty huge too... people keep asking me how long I have left.. and look aghast when I tell them 4 months... but apparently if you measure from your pubic bone to just about your belly button in cms it should measure the same as the number of weeks that you are if that makes sense.. mines is exactly right which is reassuring.. on the down side my waist has gone from 28" to 41"... and I have put on 10lb!!!

I guess it all depends on your frame and such like... you probably arent as big as you think you are!!! And at least there is a reason... the bigger you get the more the LO is growing which is all good...

bananasarny · 05/01/2007 15:24

Ha me too, people ask me when I am due and I tell them begining of May and they seem to try not to pull a face!

Maybe its being short that makes you look bigger, I'm 5 4" and short waist so may be worse than somebody taller!

I'll try the measuring thing, I dare not get on the scales, I'll panic! I'm sure is at least a stone!!

geordiemacminx · 05/01/2007 15:43

I'm only 5"1... apparently if you are little there is less space for the baby to go so you just go out... handy eh?

Anjo1 · 05/01/2007 16:05

GMM of course you can come see baba !! I'll probably have a housewarming / DP's birthday ( the big 30!!)/say hello to baby /thing at some point in February ,all being well ,and you're welcome to pop along ( or is it waddle along ) to that , or any other time you fancy .
Barcelona - so jealous , totally love Barcelona , probably my favourite city ever.have a fab time !!

about the size thing , you're right about the height /bump size co-relation. if you are tall your uterus expands upwards as well as outwards , if you are on the short side it tends to be more outward as there is less room for expansion upwards, I'm about 5"7 and everyone keeps saying I look neat, Midwife said bump is all baby the other day.Not convinced as I have put on 22 pounds (yikes !!!)
Bananasarny -I'm nearly 35 weeks so yes the gaviscon has had to come out -yuck !! hate the stuff , made me sick a couple of times - hope you're coping better with it x

bananasarny · 05/01/2007 16:16

Never mind - my change my name to rollerball!!

geordiemacminx · 05/01/2007 16:17

well it just so happens with dp's team playing barcelona in the champions league or something, still a holiday is aholiday.. just dreaming of all those cute little spanish baby outfits..

Housewarming sounds great... if not in Barca I will be there!!

You have a lovely neat beach ball shaped bump.. very !!!

I'm pleased I actually look preggars now as opposed to looking like I have been pigging out!!!

The gaviscon cool tablets are ok as gavison goes.. dont think you can get them on the NHS but they are only a couple of £'s..

Oh get me btw... I'm off to Parkhead tomorrow for a day of corporate hospitality!! Shame I cant take advantage of champagne reception.. still there will be plenty of free food!!!!

bananasarny · 05/01/2007 16:23

thanks anjo, drinking milk before bed at mo, trying not to start on the gaviscon tastes horrid!!

TALLULAHBELLE · 05/01/2007 17:15

Been on the Gaviscon since I was 8 weeks, now 18 and have heartburn almost 24/7. Thought the peppermint stuff was vile till tried the aniseed, OMG , yeeeuch! Have tried drinking milk, water and eating nat. yoghurt but nothing really helps.Anyone any magic cures?
