Billy doesnt get paternity leave as he is self employed the same as me... he will just take a week after the baby is born, and odd days as and when we need it. Means he doesnt get paid though so we will have to be careful.

Cant understand why his brother is being such an arse... you'd think he'd be doing everything he could to help out... bit of green eyed monster do you think?

weeonion · 26/02/2007 13:17

hey gmm - posted on the other thread as to dreaded BIL. he is a dick! it started with his saying that he expected this child to be named after him as he
1/ had given us a sizeable cheque recently, 2/ he has been good enough to give frase a job and
3/ as he is basically the coolest manyou coudl meet - an honour to be named after him.

after i calmed down rfom semi-hysterical laughter i realsied he actually was a serious and told him in no uncertain terms that no way on this earth woudl the child be named after him and he could have the cheque back. much stropping later - he is no playing the heavy handed boss.

so much for family support!!

ah well - such are the joys!

i forgot billy was self employed - doh! he still a proud dad to be??

Vio · 26/02/2007 13:41

hi, everyone! i dont have anjo's mobile number..hope shes alright.

Martin is also self-employed so i dont think he will take time off work..maybe a few days?? but he doesnt get paid though so we have to be careful...fortunately, my mum will be here by end of Mar so she can probably help me out.

Loulee · 26/02/2007 17:34

anjo - congratulations! that is fantastic news! i am just sorry i didnt check this thread last night. cant believe it was all so quick in the end.

faby · 27/02/2007 08:46

Hello

Please can someone give me some advice; I live in West Lothian and just recevied news that my screening test for downs has come back as high risk. I have an appointment today for a amnio and I don't think I'm ready to say whether I want this or not ( I only found out yesterday) has anyone been in a similar position?

geordiemacminx · 27/02/2007 09:32

Faby;

Sorry I cant be of any help on this - dont know of anyone on this thread that has had a higher risk... the best think to do would be to post a new conversation on the pregnancy thread and someone with experience will be able to give you some advice. Hope this helps.

ANJO!!!! Am chuffed to bits for you!!! What weight was he? I am finishing work tomorrow, and our computer at home is fcuked, but please email me on [email protected] then once all the realtives have been and david has gone back to work I will pop round if thats ok?

faby · 27/02/2007 09:35

Thanks for message started new thread

weeonion · 27/02/2007 09:37

faby - i am sorry i cant help either.

suis · 27/02/2007 10:17

Faby - we had a high risk result too, but it was regarded as high at 1:202, so it was very much the low end of high iyswim. We had a few days to decide about the amnio, but eventually decided against it on the grounds that the risks from the amnio were higher than the risk of downs, which didn't seem to make sense to us. Also as it would have been passed 22 weeks, we decided that we wouldn't have done anything about it even if the downs result had been positive, so again there didn't seem any point in taking the risk of the amnio. However, had the risk factor been higher we might have chosen differently.

Our LO is now 2 weeks old and absolutley fine, but I did have the paedeatrician check him out for any signs of downs when he was born.

It is a very personal decision on what to do about this though. I know other couples in the same position who have felt more comfortable having the amnio as they felt it better to know than to worry. You can only talk it through with your DP and see what is right for both of you. If you aren't ready to decide yet, is it possible to re-schedule the amnio for a couple of days time ? Unless you are very near the deadlines for taking the test it should be possible to take a day or two to think about it surely ?

Hope any of this helps.

BEGEMOTH · 27/02/2007 10:22

Congratulations Anjo!! Wonderful news.

Faby: Sorry I don't know anything about this. Hope to hear more from you though!

Yup, Loulee and Tallulahbelle, will try again next week.

midnightexpress · 27/02/2007 11:17

Oh Congratulations Anjo, that's fantastic news! So pleased for you . And delighted that the delivery all went so smoothly in the end - you lucky thing!

Enjoy the relative sleepiness while it lasts: I think if I ever become dictator (unlikely, with childcare to consider) I will provide my secret police with:

  1. an insomniac newborn
plus
  1. a toddler with a tummy bug

The opposition would be on their knees by lunchtime.

Am sooooooooooooooooo tired after feeding all night and then getting up at 4am to change ds1's sheets covered in sick. Mmm hmmm. Anyone got any tips for getting the smell of vomit off teddy bear??

Faby, sorry to hear about your worries. i can't offer any advice as my tests both came back low risk. I think the things to weigh up are whether the risk is higher than the amnio risk (as suis says), and also what you would do with the information if you had it. Also, keep in mind that even a 1 in 100 risk still means you have a 99% chance of everything being fine. That last fact helped me with DS2, when, although low risk, the risk had increased hugely from ds1, who was only a wee bit older. Difficult thing, I think, is that you don't get much time to make up your mind, do you? Anyway, hope you get some useful advice on the other thread - good luck with whatever you decide.

Vio · 27/02/2007 12:55

anjo - congratulations!!!!! what a great news!!!! you must send us a photo of your wee man..god its getting closer and closer for us as well... was thinking about you last night cos its Monday night and i remember you telling us that you would wait till tues...i am so glad that things went so well at the end..it didn't sound like a long labour..i am sure he's a lovely boy!!! ..i am soooo happy now.. cos knowing that you have a healthy lovely boy and it all went so well ..i am less worried about going into labour now..

Anyway, just came back from PRM..had a birth rooms tour today..midwife showed us the labour ward and MBU...surprisingly it wasn't busy at all,..you would have thought its a popular time to have a baby..anyway, the birth pool looks good..you cant deliver your baby there but you can use the pool when you are in labour..the MBU seems very good..very relax..less equipments there but very relaxing atmosphere though.

Faby-sorry cannot give you any advice...a friend of mine said to me that ( before i had my blood test ages ago)..her friends got high risk result too and shes worried so so had amnio..the result at the end was negative and they went on to have a healthy baby...i suppose it really depends on how you feel...give yousrself a bit of time to think it over..my thoughts are with you.

Loulee · 27/02/2007 15:48

Congrats Anjo - wonderful news - and so glad the birth went smoothly - and so fast - lucky you!!!! enjoy your babymoon

Faby, no advice i'm afraid - just don't rush / get pushed into anything.

faby · 27/02/2007 16:15

Thank you for your support. I went to the hospital today and discussed my options. I knew that I would not have a termination if my baby had downs, so I asked to have a scan instead of an amnio. Although, the scan is not at all a diagnostic test it could show some abnormalities associated with DS. Scan was normal. I am back again in two weeks for a fetal heart scan and can think again about amnio in interim. I feel a lot better than i did this morning. Thanks.

geordiemacminx · 27/02/2007 16:22

Pleased things aseem to be looking up for you, I'm sure everything will be fine for you and your perfect little one!!

Anjo1 · 27/02/2007 17:00

afternoon!!
what a dreachy day!! commiserations for those who have to be out and about today x

thanks for the lovely messages everyone
GMM -check your mail.
LO weighed 6lb 14oz, less than I thought he would seeing as he was overdue (and also means that that 2 stone I put on was all chocolate and I am going to remain a lard ae for a while )
have to say it's amazing just being able to eat without feeling sick subsequently am eating like a horse which is not going to help the lard a
e state but never mind!
we survived our first night ,most of it was spent awake as he seems to have his clock completely the wrong way round he's asleep just now and has been for hours !! which means he will be up all night again ,just have to adjust to his sleeping pattern I guess .
( oops sorry for the long ramble )
off to get DP to post some piccies
xx

trixymalixy · 27/02/2007 17:15

Congratulations Anjo!!!

I'm so pleased everything went well for you.

I think all newborns are nocturnal to begin with, it's totally knackering. My DS was wide awake from 1.30 am to 7.30am the other night!!

He has been a bit better the past couple of nights as I've gone back to swaddling him and and given in and got him a dummy . I don't like them, but he was just wanting to suck on me every ten mins instead and i was totally worn out!!

Faby, can't really offer any advice, but have had a lot of contact with adults with Down's syndrome and they are the happiest smiliest (sp?) people you could meet so I had always thought that i would never have an amnio or termination if my results came back high risk.

Anjo1 · 27/02/2007 18:13

here's the little man!

Aidan Baloyi Quinn

Anjo1 · 27/02/2007 19:25

Hey Trixy - gald I'm not the only one keeping mad hours , It will be nice at 2 in the morning to think 'ah , at least I'm not the only person awake in the world'!!
how are you finding the BFing ? has everything settled down now? .Hope so , I'm only today getting into the hard sore boobs stage , ah the joys....
x

midnightexpress · 27/02/2007 19:41

Awww, what a cutie!

BTW, where does his middle name come from? And how do you pronounce it?

And certainly not the only one awake at 2am!

trixymalixy · 27/02/2007 20:25

Anjo, he is absolutely gorgeous!

The BFing is going a lot better. I've managed to get rid of the nipple shields now it has healed up. Was a bit sore still for a bit, but is getting less painful all the time. Which is just as well as DS has taken to trying to launch himself of the cushions taking my nipple with him. Ouch!!

Are you getting on Ok with the bfing?

midnight, sounds like you're having a bit of a hard time of it! It's bad enough just having a newborn!! hope your Ds1 gts better soon!

Vio · 27/02/2007 20:31

ANJO----OH he's a lovely boy!!! I am so happy for you...
