I was on my own but after an (unintentionally) weepy phone call to DP -I only phoned to tell him he'd forgotten his sandwich!- he's come home so at least there's someone about now .It's just this overwhelming feeling of 'I can't do this anymore ' that I'm struggling with just now . I've even started to think favourably about an induction, something I was'nt so keen on.
Are you at work ? hope you're having a good day .

weeonion · 20/02/2007 13:58

i'm working at hom e- coudlnt face the commute.
glad he is home with you - the cabin fever must be setting in by now. how long are they goign to let you go before they want to induce. fingers crossed that it will start itself but as you say - if you are reachign teh really uncomfortable and unhappy stage - you just want some kind of action. thinking of you babe. xoxoxoooxo

Anjo1 · 20/02/2007 18:30

Thanks WO x
working from home seems a good idea - your commute is crazy long .
Not sure how long they are going to let me go on I think the maximum is 42 weeks which will be 4 days away tomorrow so I am assuming if I agree , which I think I will ,they will probably book it either end of the week or beginning of the next .I'll see how it goes tomorrow

Loulee · 20/02/2007 20:45

Hi gals, just back fom a w/e up north - fab weather and very mellow

midnightexpress - poor you with the antibiotics and dc's chickenpox - hope it sorts out soon and your scar heals fast - think I must've been really lucky as i never had any probs. Have you got lots of help, I hope? and a wee bit of time off??

Do you mind me asking what part of south side you are - or rather how south??! we are going to have to move, hopefully before LO is born and are now looking south because of space, gardens family and schools - i have the fear though and think I will desperately miss the west end.

Good to hear more positives for radnor ST - did think how great when she suggested as it's next to a nice cafe and the park!!

WO - don't know how you do the commute - i used to do it twice a week and found it exhausting..

vio - I had group b strep with dd1 (they found out as she was born) - memory of it all is a bit vague, but she was put on antibiotics straight away as a precaution while the swabs were sent away to a lab to be checked. All fine and sorted pretty quick and we went home at the usual time after a c-section armed with antibiotics to administer.

anjo - I'd stick out for not being induced if you can. First time, i got as far as being tagged and sitting on the hospital bed waiting to be induced and then thought what the F* am i doing here, got up and went home. I think you can be put under a lot of unnecessary pressure and you're just better chilling out and waiting..

trixymalixy · 20/02/2007 21:19

Hi guys,

DH is going back to work tomorrow, can't believe that's a month gone already!! God knows how I'll manage to eat/shower/get dressed without someone else to help me!!

Anjo, sorry to hear your feeling down and exhausted, make sure you get a good rest. BTW my SIL had a really good labour after induction and did it with just gas and air so induction isn't necessarily bad.

Loulee, I was a die hard west ender until DH and I came to buy our first flat together and realised we couldn't afford anything there. We lived in Shawlands for 4 years and I absolutely loved it there. I now live in Burnside which is basically as far south as you can get without being in east kilbride!!

Clarkston, Newton Mearns, Giffnock (basically anywhere in east renfrewshire)are all nice and good for schools, but really dear.

Anjo1 · 20/02/2007 21:25

Loulee-whilst I'd still like things to happen as nature intends them ,I also feel like I can't take anymore ( and then I feel guilty for being selfish ) . what I have decided to do is if they want to book an Induction they can do it as long as it is after day 14 which is this sunday .
It's all a bit much because on one hand I've read all the horror stories about inductions and on the other hand I have also read that the longer you leave getting an induction done , the more likely you are to end up with an emergency C-section due to the baby having grown so big.
what was the outcome of your walking out of your induction ?

midnightexpress · 21/02/2007 11:03

Hi all

Anjo, hope everything kicks off soon. Only advice I can offer is to climb hills (in the park I mean - not suggesting Munro-bagging at 9m+). With DS1, I stomped round Queen's Park every day in the rain for a couple of weeks and insisted on climbing up the big hill in the middle and he was only a couple of days late. That said, I did b*er all with DS2 and he was a day early. Must be miserable though - you build up that EDD in your head, so every day after that seems like an eternity. I suppose you just have to say to yourself that in a week or so you'll definitely have a baby! Enjoy the peace while you can.

Loulee - I'm in (well, next to) Queen's Park, and while it's not exactly Hyndland, it's very nice and much cheaper than WE. Not sure about schools - haven't got that far yet, but I think Battlefield and Langside are supposed to be good, and of course there's always Hutchies. Main problem for me is that work is in Bishopbriggs, so big schlep every day, but good apart from that. Friend moved from WE to Newton Mearns and when she told her kids to go and play in the garden they said 'but mummy, we don't know HOW to play in the garden'. However, 'spending 'free' time browsing HSPC website and dreaming about living in the country. Am even getting flat valued tomorrow, as fell in love with old wreck for sale in Highlands. It must be my hormones...even less convenient for commute to the Briggs!

DS2 fully recovered from the Pox - think he got off with a light dose, as he was charging around as if nothing wrong, only spottier. Not sure if that means he might catch it again, but hopefully not.

Vio · 21/02/2007 12:09

hi everyone & midnightexpress, loulee and trixy. good to hear from all of you again.

So, Loulee, you didn't know you had Group B Strep beforehand? then I supposed you only found out when DD1 was born and then everything went ok right? I asked the midwife in my class yesterday and she said they don't do any screen test routinly as it rarely happens...well, i guess i am worrying too much maybe..hopefully everything will go smoothly...31weeks now i am...feeling tired all the time as the bump grows really big and really looking forward to giving birth now.

ANJO...i agreed with you...if thats me...i think i will wait till 42 weeks..thats the max time for myself cos like you said..if the baby grows too big..you are likely to have a C-section. i know its worrying and i dont have any advice to give cos i am a 1st timer but i am thinking of you...

Vio · 21/02/2007 12:26

hi, just a question to ask. DH's family is coming up to Glasgow this Sat and we are going out for a meal..as i am new in this country so don't know much good restaurants as seldom really dine out. Any of you have any good suggestions in the city centre?

midnightexpress · 21/02/2007 13:10

Hi Vio

I had a really nice meal in the restaurant at the Arthouse Hotel on Bath Street recently - they do a good pre-theatre deal (look at 5pm.co.uk for others). Other possibilities that are nice: Cafe Gandolfi in the Merchant City; there are a coupleof good Indian restaurants on Candleriggs too. The restaurant at the Tron Theatre is quite good too. Depends what kind of food you like really of course? We really love Asia Style at Charing Cross too - cheap and cheerful Chinese/Malaysian food, and very good, though not exactly gorgeous surroundings.

Vio · 21/02/2007 15:00

hi midnightexpress, thanks! had a look at the website you mentioned...found it v.helpuful..did you say you had a nice meal at this restaurant- Abode at The Arthouse Cafe Bar ? the menu seems good.

MrsMcJnr · 21/02/2007 16:37

Hello - sorry to jump in after so long, did any of you or are any of you having a doula at your birth and if so, what kind of experiences have you had to date? thanks so much

midnightexpress · 21/02/2007 18:29

HI Vio - yes that's the place. I thought it had a different name from the hotel, but couldn't remember what it was. It was really good and (unlike some pre-theatre places) the portions were really generous and the food was scrummy.

Loulee · 21/02/2007 19:36

Vio - don't know if you've chosen yet but would second asia style as delicious - but very basic surroundings - not a posh night out but a very tasty one!
Stravaigin (Gibson St) and Stravaigin2 in Ruthven Lane are both very good. - european food with a scottish twist/local produce, relaxed. You need to book. In town for fish you have to go to Gamba - west regent street i think - beautiful ambience and food, but pricey. A bit more reasonable for fish is two fat ladies - there's one in west end and one in town.
re: group b strep - yes, i didn't know i was a carrier, found out when i had an emergency c-section with dd1 - all was fine and sorted out pretty fast. I really wouldn't worry.

Anjo - didn't mean to sound hardcore on the waiting it out. I know how frustrating it is going beytond your due date, but totally agree with midnight express - if you CAN relax and enjoy the remaining free time. How about a pregnancy massage? or i know lots of people have had success with reflexology to bring on labour - might be worth a try?? i went for manicures and pedicures and a haircut when waiting for dd1!!
Re: walking out of induction - I went into labour about 2 days later - just short or 42 weeks i think. oh i was also quite small, so no issues about baby getting too big. My birth story for dd1 was a bit of a never ending nightmare ending in a section, so don't know how helpful details would be!? - the short version is that I was allowed to do everything as naturally as possible but each stage had a time limit (which they were generous with - afterall i had been planning a home birth ) - my problem was that i just wasn't dilating - and even when all drugs and interventions were started, I still didn't dilate. I got to 3 cm after nearly 2 days (!) before baby was in distress. same happened with dd2. I read a very inspiring book by Sheila Kitzinger: Birth Your way and really would prefer I was going the natural route - but now I'm resigned to the c-section and sort of feel better the devil you know iykwim...

mrsMcJ - haven't had a doula before, but have heard really positive comments from friends that have. i just think you want to be careful choosing as you want someone you'd feel totally relaxed with. The other thing my friend suggested is get a doula who's also a massage therapist - there's one in Glasgow i think.

trixy and midnight - know what you mean price wise etc. At the moment it' looking like it will be east renfrew so we get the schools. clarkston / giffnock/netherlee etc - never thought i'd be speaking like this but i guess that's what kids do to you! both of ours are sick at the moment so rather miserable, hopefully won't last long.
my posts are getting very long - don't know whats up with me - you'd think i'd nothing better to do!!

lazyemma · 21/02/2007 20:38

I LOVE Asia Style! It's my favourite place to eat out in Glasgow. My favourite dish there is the fried fish with ginger and spring onions, closely followed by the soft-shelled crab.

I was posting on this thread but I haven't for ages. I've moved from Glasgow to Tayport in Fife now, and I'm 33 weeks pregnant - due on April 7th. I'm starting to get a bit antsy - Ninewells (the hospital I'll be giving birth at now) are taking ages to give me an appointment for an ante-natal check up - I went to see the GP here nearly 3 weeks ago for a referral. I've been to see the local midwife team and everything seems fine so far. Although I feel a bit sicky today - hope it's not dreaded third trimester morning sickness...

Anjo1 · 22/02/2007 11:27

hey everyone ,
loulee - not at all , you did,'t come across as hard core , I hold the same views on inductions and was pretty adamant I was not having one but at 41+4 I've had to start accepting that It just might have to happen.
Went to see the Midwife yesterday and I'm so glad that her and the consultant are of the same mind and so we've all agreed to leave it until 42 +2 which is next Tuesday , so looks like one way or the other I'll have my baby on Tuesday/Wednesday next week .I've got to monitor the baby's movements and I've also got a CTG booked for tomorrow to make sure the baby is fine .
so looks like the end is nigh .
hey Lazyemma , hope you aren't feeling too sickly , I still get that ( yeah I know , at 41+4!!) but it usually means I'm hungry or I've eaten too fast , greedy guts !!
hope you get your appointment sorted soon

Vio · 22/02/2007 12:12

hi Anjo,...good that your and the midwife hold the same view ..at least you have already made up your mind ..:O)

Lazyemma, hopeyour sickness will go away soon!

Loulee, Lazyemma & midnighexpress, you all have made me feeling v,hungry and wanting to eat asian food!!! since you all said its a good restaurant, i have just read some reviews about this asia style restaurant as well,.think i must give it a try..if not this sat ( cos not sure if his family members prefer chinese food)...then will be some other time...really hungry for authentic asian food ( i am chinese originally from Hong kong).

TALLULAHBELLE · 22/02/2007 19:56

Vio - Chinatown restaurant, New City Road, @ Stow College, has yummy Chinese food and do a good buffet - you order from the menu, a soup plus starter and as many mains as you want(rather than help yourself to stuff that's been lying out for who knows how long). Good if there's a few people and you want to try lots of things.

If you like Thai food, then Thai Siam in Argyle Street is to die for - would have to book as it's teeny.

For Scottish fayre, I would also recommend Stravaigin,Gibson Street, either for the pub food, or fancier downstairs restaurant.

midnightexpress · 22/02/2007 20:21

Hi Vio - if you want real Chinese food, there's a Chinese restaurant at the bottom of Sauchiehall Street where I went with a Chinese friend and she ordered off-menu - apparently, all the Chinese people who go there order completely different things from what's on the menu. We had a great meal. I can't remember the name of it (I can't remember ANYTHING since ds2 arrived ), but I'll find out and let you know. But Asia Style great too.

All this talk of food is making me hungry too -

derlor · 22/02/2007 22:05

hello to you all, just found this website 2 days ago and have become addicted. i am currently over 5 months pg with no3 child and will be delivering in wishaw early june hopefully!! i have been laughing out loud at some of the threads and also shocked at the bitchiness in others!! typical bloody women! Anyway just wanted to introduce myself so you regulars don't think i'm gatecrashing your wee possy. later...

weeonion · 22/02/2007 23:47

BEGEMOTH · 23/02/2007 14:31

Hello ladies!

Hope you are all well.

I just wanted to ask what your experience/ thoughts were on food and drink during labour?

On our hospital tour at Queen Mum's the physio informed us that once we were signed into the hospital we would not be allowed any food or drink other than water. I'm sure I must have this wrong though...

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be up to a big meal but thought that lucozade or ribena would be acceptable. And if they really are that strict am I going to have to sneak stuff in?

Loulee · 23/02/2007 14:48

hi all,
begemoth - you've not got it wrong - it's in case you have to have a general anaesthetic. (sp?) i remember them being pretty strict. I had a wee pack of glucose sweets that dp would sneak me every so often. tbh didnt really feel like eating as with dd1 labour I was throwing up throughout - lovely!

tallulah - yoga tomorrow, so how will i look out for you? Am going to go and find some clothes that will fit me and then I'll let you know what i'm wearing!!

derlor · 23/02/2007 14:52

Midwife will float in and out during early labour so sneak lots of food in and just eat it when she leaves the room if necessary!! by latter stages of labour a mars bar will be the last thing on your mind - you are rewarded with tea and toast on delivery - never enough though 2 slices if you are lucky. All that work for 2 measly slics of toast - shocking. oh yeah, you get a baby too!!!! (not to eat though)

derlor · 23/02/2007 14:54

oops i meant slices of toast.
