poppy seriously, if I was nearby I would love to have tried to help you in some practical way!! Sorry it has been so rough for you.

28 weeks scan and checks all gone very well for us today and yesterday. Baby measuring exactly on 50th percentile for head and abdomen! Feeling knackered today though... Our house move next week is exhausting just thinking about it hmm.

susiegrapevine · 23/05/2012 13:19

Hey everyone nice to see you are back on a normal ward poppy!

Finanally decide the itching was too much and went to the docs today actually got through on the phone 2nd time which for my docs is like the miracle of all miracles!! Sorry if tmi! Hopefully will be all better now and bless him he was so nice and said if you have any other worries or concerns just come and see me much better than the cover midwife i had last week am gonna say to my midwife about her as the more i think about it the more cross it makes me!

Anyway gotta clean a tidy the house now as my parents are coming over to baby sit ds later as dh is in the works talent show so we are going to that!!

MrsMigginslovespies · 23/05/2012 14:01

Hello all,

Sunny sunny sunny. Love it! Although have been painting half the morning, and the rest having bloods done. I asked again what they were for and one was for gestational diabetes, one for iron and one just in case I have to have a transfusion so they've got the right group...Confused.

Tash CK used to do those stickers, and in the planes pattern too, but stopped a while ago. I even rang head office to see if there were any more about, but no. I've found some other cute ones though. Have also ordered my bunting tie-backs and a matching cushion, all from Ebay shops for less than the price of the material by itself. Hurrah.

So glad to hear you're out of trouble Poppy. Hope you're keeping ok and not going too mad in hospital. Are you getting much rest there? I found that I couldn't sleep at all whilst in, so was exhausted just from being there by the time I came home. Hope you've managed to sleep where possible.

With you on men in kilts, Ham Smile. Lovely.

Have you all started your antenatal classes now? I'm getting a bit worried as have heard nowt from my MW and am feeling bit abandoned. How many NHS ones do you all get? I think I get 4 of about 90 mins each. Is that normal? God knows when, however. Have suddenly got a nice bump that has really grown over the past week. I love it!!

Also, is anyone else's skin going freckly? I've never had freckles, and suddenly have lots over my cheekbones. V odd.

Sorry, another long rambly post. I type quickly! x

Lovemarmite · 23/05/2012 14:46

I found http://www.hamillbaby.com/wall-stickers---air-transport-1840-p.asp these wall stickers the other day MrsMiggins and thought they were very cute - we might go for the owls on the tree. Though a little expensive, thought they're fun and not as expensive as other options I've been spying!
Just thought I'd share.

Not started any antenatal classes yet - the NHS ones here start mid July and the last one is early August and so I hope we don't have an early stork as otherwise we'll be totally unprepared :o

ooo freckles - nope, had them as a kid, they disappeared but not come back (yet) although glad to say my 1st trimester acne has cleared up and if anything my face looks to have bloomed.

Wow panpipe that is low - mine was 85/55 last time and so interested to know what it is tomorrow.

Yikes susie gently does it yeah! hope it clear up soon!

Wow, have been getting huge movements the last few days, I think LO is shifting around and flipping in a confined space now and I get odd bulges and my belly is lopsided at times. Less kicks but more huge rolls! is this normal? I can't really walk when she does this as it's such a big feeling! ahhh.

Vinolover · 23/05/2012 15:36

Good news about coming out of the labour ward Poppy. That place can be scary at the best of times! I can only imagine how frustrated you must be feeling having to stay in hospital, especially with moving :( Im really hoping the next few weeks speed up for you!

Needles I have that pain also :( Sometimes I feel asthough I have been hit full force with a blunt object. Mine seems to come and go though and I can't work out any triggers.

Im not sure my baby likes the heat too much as he's been very quiet all last night and today (although Im getting some lovely kicks now :)). I on the other hand am loving it!

MrsMigginslovespies · 23/05/2012 15:39

Thanks Love, they're v cute!

panpipe · 23/05/2012 16:57

Not to worry you marmite but mine was that low at both 24 and 28 weeks Confused. There isn't much that can be done about it except to drink lots of fluids to try and raise the pressure. Isn't that the answer to everything?!

Re classes - my NCT ones started yesterday and they go on until mid July. I think the NHS ones round here are only once a month or something and you choose which one to attend. Actually maybe some of you non first-time mums can help me with some NCT homework too please - what was the one most useful and one least useful item of baby equipment that you bought for your first?

NeedlesCuties · 23/05/2012 17:51

Miggins I have a true Irish complexion so freckles are a life-long feature of mine Grin Not sure if pregnancy has added to them though...

Also, I'm not doing ante-natal classes this time as I only had DS 2 years ago and they only seem to offer them for subsequent births if there has been a bigger age gap. No worries though as I can remember every.little.detail of pain relief, positions, feeding etc etc.

Marmite yeah, those movements feel a bit like how DC2 is moving atm. A bit freaky sometimes when I catch sight of my naked belly if I'm getting changed or something and can see the shape of bump move as the baby moves! Didn't have that so much with DS as I think I was a bit chubbier then Blush

panpipe I'm really low maintenance and didn't go mad buying things when pregnant first time round, but I will say:
BEST thing I bought:- a play mat for baby to lie under, with an arch of toys over it which dangle down. Got one in Toys r Us for about £15 and was great for leaving DS to lie and play before he was able to roll or crawl. Also is good for 'tummy time' as the mat had lovely textures and patterns. similar to this playmat

WORST:- (I didn't buy this, but a friend lent it to me) one of those swinging seats that plays music and has lights. Not this one, but something like it swing It took up so much floor space and DS screamed and cried every time I put him in it. I gave it back to my friend after a week. Pity though as I've heard other kids really like them and my friend's wee girl loved it.

ffscatmove · 23/05/2012 18:15

Hey Poppy so glad to hear you're out of the labour ward & all is well - thinking of you!
marmite I agree about the rolls, sometimes they really take my breath away - LO seems to be mainly spending time facing inwards now so I get less hard kicks & more general 'wriggles' (although sometimes s/he likes to wake me in the night with a good jab in the ribs!)
Very glad I'm not suffering the insomnia but do seem to wake very early now - still I'm more productive in the mornings generally [sceptical]
MrsM I too am a freckly person anyway & they always pop out with the sun - if you're not usually is it the chloasma thingy in the books d'ya think?

Much as I am loving the sun I am finding it a bit warm to do anything.... need to get up & go and do some weeding!

ishopthereforeiam · 23/05/2012 21:08

panpipe the best thing I bought was the tommee tip pee sterilizer but I was. Gifted a swing (similar to needles) the fisher price jungle swing which is bulky but was the only way to get dd to sleep in the day sometimes!

Tbe worst... The baby Bjorne dd hated it so it's only been used twice!

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 23/05/2012 21:17

Awww, thanks Capecath. Thanks Luckily, my sister has been getting stuff for the baby, so she's got a few bits.
Glad 28wk scan went well, good luck with your house move. :)

susie you made me actually laugh out loud at your drs comment..!! :o Glad your dr was nicer than the cover midwife.
And I really hope it clears up soon, especailly as it's so warm atm.

MrsM your bloods sound the same as mine, I have to have those done everyday (except the diabetes one). Once I have given birth and am
all well again, I am definitely going to go and give blood. They've had to have so much blood for me in stock, I feel like I need to give some back.

I am not getting much rest at all, hospitals aren't very restful place. They do their last obs checks at 10pm and then wake you up at 6am to do the next lot
and then stick me on the monitor. Then breakfast lady comes at 8am, first dr at 9am, consultants at 10am, so by the time that's all over and I've had a shower and dressed,
updating DP and Dsis it's lunch and then obs start again.. so no time to catch up on lack of sleep Confused.

Anyway, enough of my exciting days :o

Marmite my bump is lopsided at times too, I get a bum sticking out the right hand side and the back of a leg above my belly button..! Baby is in a very weird positon.

Thanks again for all the wishes, you're all so lovely. Sending you all Wine, Brew and Thanks.

warzonemummy · 24/05/2012 04:13

Ladies I need reassuring. I have been leaking liquid and a bit of blood last 16 hrs on and off. I went to the hospital and they say I am 2cm dilated. They sent me home to rest. Pain has eased up.

Westcountrylovescheese · 24/05/2012 06:47

Warzone, here's a hand to hold.

Are you back in the UK yet? If the hospital sent you home it means that they are confident that things will settle. Just make sure you rest like they said. If baby does want to come there is so much they can do. Poppy will be along soon to reassure you too I'm sure...

We lost WestCountryCat yesterday... We were with him at the end and it was the best thing to do. He was so so poorly. Home seems very empty at the moment. Sad

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 24/05/2012 06:54

warzone sending you lots of love and hugs and positive thoughts. I had contractions sat & sun, as the bleeding was irritating my uterus. They did settle down, but can totally appreciate how scary it is. They couldn't examine my cervix though, incase they aggravated the bleeding more.

when I was in last time the lady opposite me had leaking fluid from 28weeks, and I saw her again at 33 wks and all was still fine.

Although not ideal (and definitely not what either of us want) I have heard lots of positive outcomes of babies born at 30 weeks over the last two weeks, which had reassured me. Including lengthy chats with drs from neonatal unit here.

Fingers crossed baby stays put though, and you get back to the UK safely.

Keep us posted xxxx

MrsMigginslovespies · 24/05/2012 06:56

So, have been awake at 0530 listening to birds, craving pain au chocolate and generally having lots of things going on in my head today. Insomnia here too Smile. Another gorgeous day hurrah. Hope y'all are well today x

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 24/05/2012 06:56

Hope everyone has a lovely day :)

panpipe · 24/05/2012 08:04

Aww so sorry about your cat West Sad

Warzone hang in there, sorry you've been having a tough time. Sending baby stays put thoughts and make sure you get plenty of rest.

I need to phone the hospital today to get the results of the GTT that never was! Even if it was just the first test it'll be interesting to find out if anything's changed (or if sugar is still low meaning I should eat more cake Grin).

Really tired this morning as I didn't get back from work til 10.45 last night. Might have a nap on the train...

hamncheese · 24/05/2012 08:19

Really sorry to hear about your cat west :( here if you need anything

Stay positive warzone hopefully like poppy it will settle down and LO will stay where they are meant to be for a bit longer yet.

It was 19 degrees in glasgow city centre this morning at 7am... who knows how toasty it's going to be by midday!! I am loving the weather and being able to wear really light clothes and NO COAT! Already carrying a baby, who needs a coat to weigh them down too! Had the fan on last night and no duvet etc as being right in the city means open windows are pointless due to noise and cigarette fumes. Seriously, why do people have to smoke right below my flat? argh!

Anyone got any sunny weather plans for today, tomorrow or the weekend which is set to be lovely too? I'm looking forward to BBQ!! Grin

warzonemummy · 24/05/2012 08:20

I am still in Afghanistan and at best hospital saw some wonderful doctors. Bleeding stoped and they have done a scan. Seems like slightly decreased fluids for the baby to swim in. I need to rest and see how it all goes. I will head back when I feel a bit better as I don't want to be worried in flight.

On a cat related news, our cat in the office gave birth to three kittens. Sorry for the loss of your cat westcountry. Wish I could send you one of the kittens from here.

ishopthereforeiam · 24/05/2012 11:26

warzone sounds like things are calming down. Here to hand hold and reassure. A friend of mine dilated to 5 cm (!) at 5-6 months pg but the labour process stopped by itself and she went to full term and all was well.

Sorry to hear about the cat west

mrsm I've been eating 2 x pain au choc for breakfast daily Blush I have also now discovered teh calorific pancakes with maple syrup on Mcdonald's menu.

Poppy how's it going today? Are you on bed rest all day? We're still battling for the house, finally one step closer to the mortgage but I can't bring myself to get excited til all done and dusted. How's yours going?

OP posts:
ishopthereforeiam · 24/05/2012 11:27

ps - midwife this pm so off to hospital. Guessing it's just the usual hack into my arm to try and find a vein plus some peeing in a bottle - oh the glamour!

OP posts:
panpipe · 24/05/2012 13:38

Argh! My GTT saga continues! I phoned the hospital for the results of yesterday's first part and blood glucose was back within normal range. HOWEVER between the test and now it appears that yes actually I should have had the full proper GTT after all, so the MW I spoke to on the phone is going to check with a consultant and get back to me. Would it be too much to ask that one person speaks to another?!

Lovemarmite · 24/05/2012 13:40

Hope you're doing well warzone and thinking of you.

Sending you Thanks and a Biscuit West

Just seen a mw this morning and all looks good, very active LO and placenta is in the front and so explains why I get kicking at the sides. Took tons of blood but not a glucose test but instead a thyroid one. Measured slightly bigger than I should be but I did notice that she's gone to one side as I had a massive lump on the left and it looked a little funny lying on the couch with this bulge.
Hope your appointment goes well ishop

Ooo pain au chocolat - sooo tempted! Bought some cadbury's fingers and planning to put them in the fridge for a nibble on later.

Vinolover · 24/05/2012 15:57

Im so sorry about your cat West :( I hope you're ok Thanks

I hope you're also ok warzone. It must be so worrying but from what you say it certainly sounds asthough it could just be a slight blip. Fingers crossed for you!

I had my 28wk mw appt today and all is looking well. I'm now measuring to my weeks as before I was measuring a week ahead but she did mention he was all curled up in there. My next appointment is now in July when I'll be 34 weeks! Seems like ages away. I do have to see the DR at 31 weeks though for a heart and lungs check. Anybody else got to do this?

I suppose it's time to go and cook dinner and then it's a night in front of the telly with my feet up :) I have a craving for chicken, cous cous and tartare sauce Hmm
