Glad the appointment went well love, mine all seemed pretty straight forward too - how much did you measure? I'm 29 weeks and 29cm (ish) I think?

Lovemarmite · 24/05/2012 17:26

Glad yours went well too ishop
I'm 28+5 and my bump measured 29.5, however two weeks ago my usual mw measured and LO was exactly the right size... hmm can't be amazingly accurate as the mw today didn't really feel my belly too much.
Apparently LO was really active with strong hb and was having a great time wriggling around.

We've just had some music on which made LO bang around in there - felt like the bongos and then steady drums... hmm :)

susiegrapevine · 24/05/2012 20:35

Hey everyone

Sorry to hear about your cat west sending hugs

warzone keeping everything cross for you

Spent nearly all day today at my friends beach hut well apart from the morning had picnic and everything there was fab! Am very tired now

ds had his first bath tonight after his injury as they said we have to wait 72hrs before getting it wet. He loved it.

Hope everyone else had fun in the sun!

Oh yeah and about the antenatal classes i did not have mine until really late on cos at one point they cancelled all the classes in the area due to lack of mw's and had to draft in the nct so even tho we had free nhs classes it was the nct that did them so best of both worlds!

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 25/05/2012 05:01

Any guesses as to what happened at 4am? Yup, another big bleed. Sigh :(

strapped to monitor again, and both bump and my vital signs are ok are the mo.

Fingers crossed again please :)

I will stop hogging this thread with boring bleed stories :o

Thing is I just knew it was going to happen. Even packed my bag up last night, ready to make it easier to move beds. Confused

Vinolover · 25/05/2012 05:56

Oh poppy I'm sorry to hear that :(. Have some Thanks and a hug. I can't even begin to imagine how you must be feeling.

Everything is tightly crossed for you and your baby. X

Westcountrylovescheese · 25/05/2012 06:57

Oh Poppy, you poor thing. Sad

The3Bears · 25/05/2012 07:06

Poppy really hope your okay, keeping my fingers crossed for you x

hamncheese · 25/05/2012 07:48

Argh poppy that's just not fair!! Do they still have no idea what is causing the bleeds? Keep dominating the thread though to vent and keep in touch... or ask us to entertain you somehow! x

Westcountrylovescheese · 25/05/2012 07:50

Good news here today. I'm working at home so don't need to look professional. Just pulled out a pair of comfy shorts that I bought last year for honeymoon and they fit! Whoop whoop whoop! Work attire today; shorts and vest! Bring on the sunshine! Grin

warzonemummy · 25/05/2012 08:45

I am sorry to hear that poppy i can sort of undersatnd how you feel. I only bled 4 times during all this pregnancy including the tiny tiny bit last night and I have been miserible. I felt like so frustrated and now that I am 30 wells I even sort of just hope that the baby is born already instead of all these bleeds and hospital visits.

MrsMigginslovespies · 25/05/2012 08:59

Ach, Poppy I'm so sorry to hear that. Am sending hugs to you and your little one and hope you're bearing up ok. Thanks Biscuit Brew to you from a virtual visitor. xx

Lovemarmite · 25/05/2012 09:39

Hoping you're doing okay Poppy and sending you some Flowers to you and your LO x

MrsMigginslovespies · 25/05/2012 10:40

Something to cheer you all up: I'm wearing my MamaSpanx for the first time today and they're HILARIOUS! Come up to under my boobs and are maybe the most hideous thing I've ever worn and are a struggle to get into! But wanted to test drive them before I wear under a jersey/clingy maxi dress for a party and actually whispering they're very comfy and I like the support they offer. But one for your eyes only Grin!!!

Westcountrylovescheese · 25/05/2012 10:44

Sounds beautiful MrsMiggins! Not sure I could cope with those in this heat though! Brave you...

ishopthereforeiam · 25/05/2012 10:59

panpipe · 25/05/2012 14:30

Oh blimey Poppy not again Shock. You're shaping up to be one tough mum and baby! I work in London so if there's anything you need or you fancy some company I'd be more than happy to pop in after work.

How are you doing by now warzone? Sending hugs your way too.

I'm feeling a bit better today after having a rubbish day yesterday. It all got rather stressful with being annoyed at the hospital for the test mixups and general work - really busy at the moment coupled with the realisation that I really haven't got that long left before mat leave to get things finished! Just about made it to Lazy Daisy on time after finishing late then came home and had a cry at the last episode of Glee [insert crazy hormonal pregnant lady smiley here]. Ah well, it's Friday and the sun's out so hooray!

hamncheese · 25/05/2012 15:31

How are you doing poppy, hope everything is as ok as can be at the moment!

I've had an interesting day as went to a sling meet. Put the date in my diary as really had no idea which one I would get then as it got closer didn't want to go as I felt like it'd be really mumsy (and I don't mean like I don't like mums, just I'm not one yet.. well you know.. and worried it'd be cliquey). Anyway I did go because I told myself I was being daft and it was pretty good. Was all women (probs cause it was a weekday) and they seemed all quite nice. EVERYONE had a baby with them except me but it was okay, actually kind of nice to see them as they were all nice kids and no screeching or chaos! So basically there were two women who were like the "babywearing" gurus who had tonnes of slings and carriers some their own, some part of their "library" and some home made ones. Got a really good idea of what I'm looking for and saw them all being tried and managed to successfully tie one on me with the demo baby.

So if anyone has any questions about slings and carriers I can answer them inasmuch as I can repeat what I learned. This was the crux of it for me though: Stretchy wrap carriers are good for newborns and up to a certain age depending on your baby (if inquisitive/size) doesn't matter if you buy a moby or a kari me or make your own as it is basically just a long piece of fabric that tapers to the ends which you wrap a certain way. If you are worried about baby falling out that's not an issue as long as you practice and get confident in tying it, as when they showed me it they were secure as you can get in any carrier. Good alternatives to wraps that are just fabric are mei tai's and ring slings. Ring slings are the same as wraps except part of the tying is already done and you tighten it with rings on the side. Mei tai's are basically a big square with lengths that tie which come from each corner. They do the same job as a wrap but are a bit more supportive, though less cocoon-like. In terms of carriers they had two called ergo and active baby, these had buckles and were like baby bjorns only a little more flexible, better for once they get bigger, but don't do anything a wrap can't do. Wraps can be used for bigger babies and newborns by getting a different fabric - the stretch ones are jersey, the bigger baby ones are woven fabric. For hot weather you can get linen wraps and apparently mei tais are good in heat too. In terms of positions the easiest is a front cross thing where baby's head lies up to your chin and is central on your body with legs round you a bit like a frog. This is the way they all go at first. When they get bigger you can put them on your back which both wraps (of woven fabric) and carriers can do so they can look out. If you want them to be able to look out from the front the carriers allow this a lot too as they are less covered in fabric from shoulders up. To use positions you can go on youtube apparently there are tonnes of videos.

Would recommend you go to a sling meet if you are interested in using carriers, even if just to work out what is right for you as online browsing just confused me but now having seen them in action I have a good idea what to look for at the baby bounty market thing that's on in glasgow tomorrow. One reason I wasn't keen on the meet was that I was thinking how do they just talk about slings the whole time but it was all practical demos and discussion. A lot of mums there talking about how they use their carrier as much as the pram or the pram gets neglected because it is so easy to carry. There was a bit of a babywearing philosophical undercurrent at the event but it was good as an alternative to just putting them in the pram and there was no pressure/trying to convert you to certain things! They had mainstream carriers and little known ones all the way to the custom ordered and handmade. So anyway, if anyone wants to ask anything I may remember please do or (far better as I'm just regurgitating and have major baby brain!) go to a meet :)

_

Major post there but to end lightly I just want to tell you all that my MIL refused (yes, refused) to let me push my bike into her garage the other day. What the hell does she think I do at the supermarket?? The mind boggles sometimes! I just smiled to myself though as not ten minutes earlier I had balanced said bike down 2 flights of stairs and manoeuvred it into the back of the car with DH Wink

Off to sit out and have a BBQ in this glorious weather :)

Westcountrylovescheese · 25/05/2012 15:35

Sounds very interesting Hamncheese... So which one do you think you will go for? I'm stuck between Kari me and the Close one...

Oh and mil.... Grrrrrrrr....

hamncheese · 25/05/2012 15:58

I'm definitely going to get a stretchy one, be it moby or kari me. If I see one at the market I will get it and if not ebay. If I see a Mei Tai I think I will get one too as would like the choice and it does seem a bit more supportive so would be useful as baby gets bigger or if I'm out for longer periods. The Mei Tai they had was "napsack" brand but you get lots of different types apparently.

The Close one looks pretty similar to Kari Me. From what I could tell all the wraps are good as long as you get good at using it.

I'm trying hard to be more smile, breath, rolls eyes at DH than grr with the MIL thing and general mollycoddling I seem to receive from all at the moment... but it's wearing thin!! Grin

ishopthereforeiam · 25/05/2012 16:44

ah ham sounds like mil is a little in the dark ages but sweet in a way Blush!

Just had a mocha frappucino (all frapps half price at starbucks Wink) and the man asked if the coffee would be ok for baby ... didn't have the heart to tell him baby needed to sober up after a large glass of rose!

Lovemarmite · 25/05/2012 16:55

Love it ishop!

Ham were there any slings that could just be tied around the belly? I'm guessing maybe not? I can't wear bags on my shoulders and so a sling seems a bit hard for me.
Sounds like a fun event.

Just had a boo as my work was getting stressful and it was all my fault (or could I blame the accounting system?), baby brain or just very slow?! Would love to go in the garden and do some weeding, planting etc but can't see it as I feel so useless with no energy, too large to get around and I'm only 28+6... hmm.

Westcountrylovescheese · 25/05/2012 17:06

My garden is currently reading 29/30 degrees... This is not fun. My feet are huge and for a normal sun worshipper I am sat indoors and loving it! Why can't we have nice weather say early 20's all the time....

Ishop that's hilarious, I bet you were tempted to say it! Reminds me of years ago buying condoms in boots, this old man gave me such a 'look' that when the lady came back and asked me if I wanted anything else I very clearly and slightly loudly asked for a large box of ibroprofen. I did manage a smile in his direction before leaving though!

lynniegooner · 25/05/2012 17:11

I've got terrible craving for a cigarette - and I've never even smoked!! Just the smell of it to me at the moment is heaven!! I had the same feelings when I was pregnant before and I had to eat some fag ash from an ashtray!!
Not many public places you can go nowadays though just to get a crafty whiff!!

panpipe · 25/05/2012 17:51

Ha ishop love it! I couldn't get out of work between 3 and 5 for the half price frapps but I may have had 1 or 2 decaf caramel ones already this week Grin

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 25/05/2012 18:25
