Take care Poppy, hope you and bump are still ok.

vino I have has what I think are BH since 23-24 weeks too, mainly if I've over-exerted (had one yesterday after 2 hours vigorous vacuuming & general leaping about cleaning!) Bump gets hard & tight - not painful but sort of makes you catch your breath!

I haven't heard anything about a GTT yet, does everyone have to have it?

ffscatmove · 13/05/2012 21:45

Ah ha, just read the Wikipedia stuff - my BH usually also accompanied by a full bladder so must wee more often! (sorry if that's TMI!)

ishopthereforeiam · 13/05/2012 21:58

Oh poppy you poor thing, hope you're ok? Sounds like you're v brave, have a virtual Wine on me?

mrsm are you watching the original version? Am also missing homeland and watching the second series of the killing (US version)... Will be gutted when desperate housewives is over!

Wow, I've missed quite a lot this weekend, we have all my family staying here from San Francisco including my 7 month old nephew! Good practice for me but exhausting!! There's 8 of us in our house at the mo!
I've been on full hostess mode and my legs have been aching from the knee down for the last 2 days, need more rest I think!
At least having the baby visit means we've had to organise the nursery and now have the cot, changer, bouncy chair and toys down from the loft!
Also not sure about anyone else, but I know of 5 baby girls that have been born in the last few days, sort of evens out the the school year for all our August boys!

eightieshopaholic · 13/05/2012 22:13

Thinking of you Poppy x

I've been off this week on holiday decorating our room to then to clear our spare room for baby. Room looks fab now but have a tip to sort out in the spare room!! Had flu all week great when on holiday!! no more time off now till bump arrives so need to make use off bank hols to do nursery!! going to baby show next Sunday so hopefully will get some ideas!
27 to day seems to be going so slowly!!

PoppyS34wantssleep · 14/05/2012 06:59

Morning ladies.

I'm with you eighties, time is going SO slowly. 28+2 today. Everyday counts though :o

currently tied up to a machine for bump's morning monitoring, who is snoozing away it seems :)

From my bed I can see it's bright but cloudy in london town this morning. In about an hour work are going to find out I won't be in again this week :( not entirely sure how that will go down. I doubt it's any consolation to them that I'd actually rather be there than in here.

Wishing you all a very lovely monday :)

woopsidaisy · 14/05/2012 07:08

Morning Poppy. Thank goodness for t'interweb to keep you entertained! Give your bump a wee pat from all us MNeters!

Getting set for another crazy week here, the school days are just a blur...football and cricket after school today. But the Woopsies are heading off to Eurodisney next weekend! Woo hoo!
But I have to pack everything...bum.

Have a good day ladies!

NeedlesCuties · 14/05/2012 07:45

Ahhh, thanks for telling me what GTT is. I didn't have that test with DS's pregnancy, don't think I'll be offered it with this one. If I am offered it I'd take it though.

(25+3)

WelshLadyCDF · 14/05/2012 07:57

woops quick note re flying, I asked not to go through the x-ray scanner at Cardiff airport last week, I had a panic about whether it was safe, they were fine about it , they had a good feel of my 'waistline' and bump though, I guess I could have hidden a lot in there Confused
just thought I would mention it,
xxx

Vinolover · 14/05/2012 08:18

Good morning all

Have come to the conclusion that ihave picked up a tummy bug of some sort because I'm really not feeling too well today. Every time I start to eat something I get a pain in my tummy and end up feeling really sick :(. Think I'll give my MW a call this morning and see what she says because my little fella is quite quiet too.
I think I'm going to have to call in sick for work and it's going to go down like a lead balloon! We've lost a lot of staff recently and I'm not sure who my boss will find to cover my shift but I suppose it can't be helped. (I know how awkward you feel on that front poppy).

Have a lovely time in eurodisney woopsi!

needles could you ask to have the test done?

PoppyS34wantssleep · 14/05/2012 08:20

needles you get a free bottle of lucozade for the GTT :o (that impressed me!) Lol

whoops very Envy of euro Disney, have a fab time :)

warzonemummy · 14/05/2012 10:31

poppy how are you feeling? You and I share a due date that is making me think of you even more. I am glad that you are in the UK where you can at least get access to medical care.

I woke up today to an eye infection. I may have a slight raised body temperature too. I got some medicines but they are all too dangerous for the baby (information curtsy of Dr Google) so I ended up throwing them in the bin. I am now just using camomile tea to wash my eyes which is soothing. Any idea on home and harmless remedies most welcome.

Been getting Braxton Kicks for last few days now. It freaked me out at first but now I am used to it. I find a little rub on the bump with almond oil makes it better. I just wish the shooting pains down there goes away. they almost made me scream in a meeting I was chairing yesterday.

GwenGotLost · 14/05/2012 11:13

lucozade and only an hour wait? Shock

you lot are lucky (horror incoming)

For mine I had to fast from midnight , get to hospital for 9 (stupid taxi was late and WAY overcharged us Angry), wait for my blood tests (was almost 10 by the time they got to me) then drink a glucose drink; it was like syrup with a horrible sweet fruity taste; too me almost 20 mins to drink it all as it was so cloying :(
Then a 2 hour wait.. then another blood test taken. Then I could eat; at past 12.30 :(

I'm now very jealous of you ladies that get lucozade. Wink

Ouch at your BH pains Warzone, mine only seem to tighten up on the left side and mainly when I'm walking down the mountain hill to town.

Anyone on here given birth in Singleton, Swansea? No idea if my choice is actually going to be best for me.

glittershoes · 14/05/2012 11:25

Happy Monday everyone!

No Braxton Hicks here although reassuring to see that they are fairly common as I dare say I will get them at some point and panic!

Glad the visit went well miggins and thinking of you poppy - hope you are feeling as calm as you can possibly be. Sending lots of hugs and positive vibes your way!

Very jealous of all of you on holiday! We have a week off from the 28th and are heading to Chester and Liverpool for a few days. I cannot wait! It is my birthday while we are there and I am hinting very heavily to DH that I would like a 4D scan but he keeps saying he would rather get me something just for me and not baby related. Blah blah blah - I want to see the baby again! Anyone else had a 4D scan? Is it worth it?

We had the first of our hypnobirthing sessions yesterday which was interesting, it seems to be a lot of work but I am hoping it is worth it. It seems to be really positive and already I am feeling a lot more confident. We watched a birthing video which was really beautiful and I was impressed at how calm both mother and baby were during and after. Mind you, we also had to visualise ourselves as scarves (DH had to stifle some giggles) so we will see!

We are starting on the nursery too. Thinking of getting this for the walls:

Owl Decal

but still debating colours! Any opinions? I am shockingly bad at picking out colours that work together and all we know is that we want a calm nursery with natural/pale colours. I am quite tempted by the blue and grey already shown!

Anyone else planning on breast feeding and expressing? And if so, any tips on which breast pump? I have heard good things about the medula swing but I think we will be buying a tommee tippee steriliser and bottle set (saw a fab offer in babiesrus!) - can you use a different brand of bottles with the medula pump?

Aaaaaaagh! So much to think about!

MrsMigginslovespies · 14/05/2012 11:30

Morning all. After the crazy gales, all is calm-ish here today and sunny too for the moment.

So sorry to her you're still bleeding etc Poppy. Must be so worrying but hope you're somehow keeping positive that you're in the right place and are being looked after well (which it sounds like you are).

And ick Vino get well soon too. Rest up and do what you need to do re baby.

I think there might be a tummy thing going round at the mo, because DH wasn't well last night, nor was my DSis. I didn't have any supper, just a piece of my nice cake Blush as wasn't hungry either. Have zilch energy today and need to crack on with a few things, but can't be bothered. Lunch yesterday en famille with DH's lot was nice actually, and amusingly, I at some point must have mentioned to MIL that I wanted DH to sort out his stuff so I can do up the nursery. She in turn mentioned it to FIL who had a quiet word yesterday with my DH to get organised! FIL has offered to come down soon to help build IKEA stuff, paint, put up poles etc which is v kind. I was all for doing it myself, but now think actually, let's get others to help too!

Yes Ham original Danish version. Is excellent so far.

I've not heard of the GTT test either, so will be interested next week to see if it comes up as something I need to do. Not had any BH either, but can certainly notice differences in the bump if I've been active etc.

Anyhoo, as ever, I've dribbled on for far too long. Have a nice Monday and Thanks to all the poorly mummies today. x

PoppyS34wantssleep · 14/05/2012 11:53

thanks warzone I am holding up ok, and counting my blessings - ie baby is ok, and the hospital I am in are wonderful and the care is excellent, so I'm being really welll looked after. Obviously, I'd love to be home but am in the best place and know there are others in much worse position. :) Hope your eye infection clears up quickly.

Just have a mini heart attack every time I go to the loo... (TMI WARNING!!) passed a 2cm clot this morning, thought it was placenta and completely freaked out, poor MW who had to pick me up and calm me down and explain it was just a blood clot!!! Blush

Glitter LOVE the owl, it's beautiful. I like owls :) but scarves? really? :o how did you do that? be really interested to hear about the other sessions as I'd really like to try something liek though - although doubt I'll get to practice it as they reckon bump will be early and it'll be a c section. :(

Wishing you better Vino :( and MrsM hope you pick up soon too.

NeedlesCuties · 14/05/2012 12:23

Vino I don't think I have the risk factors or symtoms of GD so won't ask for a GTT.... the bottle of lucozade is tempting though....

glitter I bf DS for 11 months and used to express a bit if I had to go out or just wanted to rest. I was given a Medula by a friend and liked it. It made a shedload of noise which disturbed me at first, but I think they all make noise. Used to just seal the breastmilk storage bags around the bottom of the pump then pour it into a bottle when needed.

Some people can use a hand pump and get a good load of milk. I never could, and found it even took about an hour to pump 4oz with an electric one :( Just getting DS to feed was quicker and easier for us.
Everyone is different though, sometimes a quick MN search re breast pumps can show some good buys.

ishopthereforeiam · 14/05/2012 13:23

Hi glitter I had tbe tommee tippeee bought on offer from boots but milk kept escaping out the air duct and breaking it so got the medela swing. Medela worked well. Only thing about expressing was tbe time it took to get a few oz out (10-15 mins for 4oz for me) but worth it as I'm a shy non bf in public type (although my friend had a cape thing she used and bf in public which was v gd). I bf dd til 8 months when she then lost interest ( but used formula too from 3 months).

Hi everyone,
Just catching up on all the posts as been away from the computer the last few days - wow, lots of chatter!

warzone is it a stye do you think? I had a bad eye infection in the US last year and actually have one now although not very bad. Last year's one was really painful and I couldn't open my eye fully, it affected my vision which went very blurry and the whole eye was red and it was unclear which part was infected. I went to see a doctor there and was prescribed an antibiotic gel. However, he also told me that a hot compress every 2 hours would help and so I tried that and after a day of compressing, it subsided and then after 2 further days it had completely gone, no cream and only water used. However in pregnancy, immune system is down and so infection may take longer to heal. I've just had an infection in my finger and it was cured by 2 slippery elm compresses and a week later, it's all completely healed.
For the eye compress - I soaked a flannel in very hot filtered water and applied it to the closed eye and held it in place lying down until the heat went and repeated it again straight away.
Really hope this helps.

Hope all is well with you Poppy
Hope you're feeling better Needles

And glad your lunch with your MIL etc went well MrsMiggins

panpipe · 14/05/2012 13:37

Greetings ladies; long time no post for me. Been in sunny Blackpool for the weekend at a brass band competition; we had a rubbish result but it's always a good weekend to catch up with old friends so not a completely lost cause!

Sorry to hear you're back in hospital again Poppy; sending you happy thoughts, Thanks and hopes that you have lots of trashy daytime tv to watch to keep you occupied!

Welcome Gwen - I don't know anyone who's had a baby at Singleton but I'm originally from Carmarthenshire so nice to see a local face as it were!

I haven't been offered a GTT; I think it's only if you have certain symptoms or history. I did have a trace of glucose in my urine test last MW appt so have been making the effort most of the time to cut down on sugary things until my appt this Thursday. I think there might be a blood test involved this time which checks for glucose as one of the standard things.

I haven't really done anything new baby-related recently; it's definitely having a right wriggly phase at the moment though which is reassuring as it was a little quiet last week.

Oh and just a quickie to finish - I have to share my MIL's opening greeting to me yesterday: "Hello, how are you? You're looking very lumpy bumpy" Hmm

MrsMigginslovespies · 14/05/2012 14:21

Panpipe Hmm Confused!! What did you say?!

Vinolover · 14/05/2012 14:26

What a lovely greeting for you Panpipe! Gotta love MIL's!!

I have just come back from being checked over and thankfully the baby is fine and a good size apparently! The dr and MW seem to think it's constipation and dehydration. I just need to up my fibre and fruit intake and see how it goes. It's strange because I have been really constipated this pregnancy but it has been ok recently. Hey ho. This could possibly be my most undignified pregnancy to date!

Poppy that must have been very frightening for you, thank goodness the MW was there to reassure you.

PoppyS34wantssleep · 14/05/2012 14:33

:o @panpipe (sorry!), did you reply and say - you too, love! :)

Vino constipation is horrible. Hope the dried fruit and fluid works!

It was very frightening, but the MWs obviously see this sort of thing daily, so probably thought I was a fruit loop to get so upset... Blush Confused

panpipe · 14/05/2012 14:40

Ha I was so taken aback that I muttered something about "thanks, you say the nicest things" - then fumed about it to DH in the car afterwards!
