Thinking of you Poppy. Fingers crossed it'll be a short visit and everything will be fine. I reckon it is our duty to keep this thread regularly updated (through day and night for the insomniacs!) to keep you occupied :)

I was quite surprised by my reaction to the Times cover - namely I didn't really have one. My husband is Indonesian and once told me he was breast fed until he was way past 18 months - it really freaked me out at the time, and I think a part of me deep down still struggles to deal with the idea. I think it has to do with the Oedipus/Freudian thing but as someone currently pregnant with my first child I have no idea what it feels like to breast feed and how you feel as a mother about stopping/carrying on when your child gets to say one year old.

Incidentally, I just showed him the cover to see what his reaction was and he shrugged his shoulders and said "so what, it's common in Indonesia." I guess we are culturally conditioned to think it is weird in '"the West". It is good to discuss it to get past the stigma I suppose. Not sure I'll be an "extreme breast feeder" or whatever they call it though. I can't help but find the whole concept of breast feeding a child who is old enough to speak in sentences weird.

Crossing fingers for you poppy! I'm sure you will have seen it before but for entertainment if you are bored and haven't yet:

DH and I decided to go to the cinema tonight as we barely ever go and thought hey it's unlikely after August for a while plus I love pick n mix ha! So we just looked at the selection of films out there and it all makes sense why we never go Hmm any evening activity suggestions out of the house anyone? I never like bowling as I'm awful at it and at this time resemble one of the balls to much to go for that as well btw ha!

NeedlesCuties · 12/05/2012 17:05

ham DH and I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Oatmeal! So funny, but so wrong Wink

Miggins I saw that Times cover online this morning and my only thought is one of cynicism - namely that they chose such a slender, blonde, pretty mother to pose. I know that she really is breastfeeding her child at that age, but don't think it would have got on a cover had she been fat, dowdy and not pretty.

Also, that pose with the child standing on a chair is hardly the one they use at home when feeding, so I don't understand why the mag shot that one. Surely it would have been better to show a natural pose? The one they used just makes extended bfing seem odd.

I bf DS till he was 11 months, and I never was shy about doing it in public. But he's always been really tall and when he was 11 months he looked about 2! His legs used to dangle way down when I bf him at a cafe (for example) and used to almost 'kick' people as they tried to walk past! Lol! He was only young, but likely looked much older and I'm sure some people looked at me odd and thought I was feeding a toddler.

I do plan to bf this next child for longer, but think that's mainly as he/she will likely be my last baby and I want to cling on to that.... maybe, not 100% yet.

geekette · 12/05/2012 17:33

Oh Poppy... I ended up watching that Dr Who episode and then switching off.
Hopefully you will be home soon.

What a hullaballoo about bf ehh... Never understood why so many people cared about other people's personal choices which a) do not directly affect them b) in which the participants are not being harmed or abused.. And that comment goes both ways.

The times, on the other hand, is laughing to the bank.

I have never bf and as far as I am concerned, i have nothing to say about it till i do... and that still won't make me an expert.

Pff.

As for insomnia, unlike, ishop, i do not get it too often. a few times a month. so i just think of it as a passing phase. keeps me calm. :)

ishopthereforeiam · 12/05/2012 18:32

I hope you get some zzzzs tonight geekette. I managed to drift off after five having watched the good wife, giuliana and bill Blush and loads of other trash!

Almost bought some fancy dress outfits - seemed like a good idea at five am but luckily I didn't!

poppy sounds like you're in the best place to get lots of rest and be well looked after. Hope you have some good books and magazines and are ok? big hugs x

needles you do such a fab job of our list, thanks Thanks

We had family photos today, booked them when dd was born... You get three lots every six months. Now hers are done I guess we start again with the baby when he puts in an appearance?!

Thanks lou yes, any insomniacs feel free to post randomness for me to read :)

thanks for the link ham

Bump is blissfully unaware of what is going on, except when they monitor him as likes to kick the sensors!!

Have also been visited by the neonatal drs to explain what would happen if he does arrive anytime soon. Scary biscuits!

Did you find anywhere to go tonight ham?

Thanks for all your (continued) wishes, I hope everyone else is progressing well :) xx

ishopthereforeiam · 12/05/2012 20:14

Hey poppy - sure it won't happen any time soon for you but ... our photographer today said his first baby was born at 26 weeks and weighed 2lb - she's 15 and very healthy now Grin.

PoppyS34wantssleep · 12/05/2012 21:06

Thanks ishop, it's really reassuring to hear positive stories :) hope the pics came out lovely :)

hamncheese · 12/05/2012 21:19

Glad bump seems not bothered by all the ongoings poppy you must be providing a good environment for him :)

We didn't find anything to do. Being pregnant makes you realise that if you take away the cinema and anything that involves a lot of activity (lazerquest/wall climbing etc) then all night time activity revolves pretty much around drinking. Didn't feel like eating out so we just had dinner in and wasted the evening away seeing how dated the special effects are on lord of the rings which is on tv just now! We're so boring Wink What's even more silly is that we have lord of the rings on dvd but are watching it on tv Hmm ha!

Oh well off for an early night and hopefully a good sleep... hope there is no insomnia for anyone tonight.

Loislane78 · 12/05/2012 21:35

Hope you and Babs are ok poppy and you manage to keep
occupied Thanks

PoppyS34wantssleep · 12/05/2012 21:36

Ahhh, I've not seen any of the lotr films yet, as I am reading the books first. :o half way through the second book atm. Should hopefully finish it off with all this guaranteed reading time!

Enjoy your early night :)

WelshLadyCDF · 13/05/2012 07:22

hi poppy we're in Puerto Pollensa, at a family hotel we mistakenly thought that it being term time it would be quiet, not so!

ishop i wish!!

NeedlesCuties · 13/05/2012 09:53

I went out last night for dinner with 21 friends (was someone's bday). Had lovely dinner. Came home murdered by heartburn and feeling bloated. Went to bed at 11pm, woke up at 2:30am and promptly boaked the whole lot up again :(

What a waste! Don't think it was food poisoning... hope not anyway! Just think I was too full and it had to get out of my system. Not nice.

So, I have hyperemesis till 23 weeks, then go out for a nice dinner at 25+2 weeks and this happens. Meh!

GwenGotLost · 13/05/2012 11:27

Hello again, thank you for the lovely welcome :)

With the lightning shocks and tightening; I've had them too; I thought they were Braxton Hicks?, poppy, how big are your cauliflowers?? I must be shopping in the wrong places :o

I had my GTT last week, got the results back as normal yesterday, so one less thing to worry about at least.

It seems you ladies like cats? I'll post a pic or 2 of our kitten up, need to do a bump pic too :/

Westcountrylovescheese · 13/05/2012 19:04

Hi all, I've been quiet for a while sorry. Looks like we're starting to get stuff prepared. New kitchen hopefully next month and we've been out buying paint today. We have decided on a lemon yellow colour...

Poppy hope you are ok, sending bump lots of stay put vibes!

I have my GTT test next week when I'll be 29 weeks.

Does anyone know when you start getting Braxton Hicks, what they feel like and if everyone gets them?

MrsMigginslovespies · 13/05/2012 19:32

Hello everyone,

Just popping on quickly to say it's a howling gale outside. Lashing rain and wind and bonkers weather again. Had a nice lunch out with MIL, GMIL and rest of DH's family and now home again after quick trip round Mothercare and Marks. Had to smile (inwardly) as MIL was slagging off GMIL (ie her MIL). Pot and kettle thought I.

Sorry about your supper Needles but hope you feel ok today? And how you doin' Poppy?

Bereft at lack of Homeland tonight, so might have to watch some of The Killing instead. Tis v good (and even don't mind subtitles).

Toddlepip. x

NeedlesCuties · 13/05/2012 19:37

miggins have felt rough all day, sick feeling, weak and tired. After church I went for a nap for an hour and DH looked after DS downstairs. Still feel bit rubbish now, but ate dinner and so far it hasn't reappeared.

It's awful weather here too! DS (aged 2.3 years) kept pointing out the window, pretending to shiver and saying, "Ohhh, is cold outside." :)

west I do vaguely remember having BH a few times with DS's pregnancy, think it was around 31 weeks, felt like a tightening of the bump and a strong cramp out of the blue. Didn't have them for long though. He was born at 39 weeks and I have to report that the actual contraction pains couldn't be mistaken for anything else, imo anyway. Not sure if everyone gets them.

My bet is that there are lots of old MN threads about BH, do a search for them.

hamncheese · 13/05/2012 19:50

Oh happy readings poppy I get the feeling you will likely be disappointed with the films after reading the books. I watched the films first, thought they were great, read the books a few years later thought they were great, watched the films again as soon as I was done and thought what the hell did they do to these great books!! Mind you, at least you won't have the actors faces on the characters when reading which I hate. I generally hate all films based on books, the sin of omission is one I can't see past Grin

That sucks about your dinner needles and not feeling good today, at least it is a good sofa day with this horrendous weather. Really glad your hyperemesis seems to have eased though finally.

Cat pics always welcome gwen :)

Made some jam today... aldi always has such good fruit and veg offers. Now trying to watch stuff on lovefilm (which we got a few days back) and have to report it is officially pants. Limited selection, you can't find anything easily and inconsistencies between using it on different interfaces (i.e. different shows appear on Sony DVD interface and on iPad!). Also it buffers and is generally a faff. Bah. To the DVD shelf methinks.

Stay warm out the crazy weather all Brew

PoppyS34wantssleep · 13/05/2012 20:05

Oh needles that's rubbish, but hope you feel better today. Double Meh! :(

I'm due my GTT on thursday, but looks like I'll still be in by then. Maybe they can do it here? I'll have to ask the MWs.

I'm doing ok, still bleeding (sorry TMI) just wish it would STOP! If it's not that, it's the blimmin vampire nurses draining me.. surely I must need some inside, right? Bah!!

Bump still monitoring ok though, so that's good. My nerves, on the other hand, that's a different story!!

Thanks for all the continued good wishes, I feel like I need them at the moment! :) Wishing you all a lovely sunday evening.

Westcountrylovescheese · 13/05/2012 20:30

What's this about bad weather, still blue skies and sun here! Hoping it moves your way...

NeedlesCuties · 13/05/2012 20:31

What is GTT? Sorry if I'm being stoopid Confused

Vinolover · 13/05/2012 20:47

poppy I hope you're doing ok! It must be so stressful not knowing what's happening, the hours must be dragging for you :(. Have some Thanks.

Weather here too has been beautiful but is due to change tomorrow. It has been so nice to get washing out on the line. Simple pleasures in life :)

I have been getting BH since about 22 weeks this time but I think that's because it's my third baby. My whole bump feels really tight and hard but it passes quite quickly.

I believe GTT is the test for gestational diabetes. I have mine a week Thursday when I will be almost 29wks.

I have been getting awful tummy cramps since Friday, kind of like the ones you get when you have an upset tummy but it hasn't been. Do you think it could be dehydration? It's been so hot and busy at work and I'm sure I've not been drinking enough whilst I've been racing around. Should I ring the MW and see what she suggests or just up my fluid intake?

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend :)

PoppyS34wantssleep · 13/05/2012 20:48

needles GTT is glucose tolerance test. Where you have to fast, then drink 300ml lucozade an hour before a blood test.

PoppyS34wantssleep · 13/05/2012 21:37

Thanks vino MrsM Thanks

could it be trapped wind? But dehydration definitely doesn't help anything. Drink up :o

it's typical I am in here when the weather is so lovely outside. Hopefully it will rain and then they'll, send me home....
