missjemima · 08/05/2012 20:32

I'm worried too about the whole lying on your back thing... I long for the days of sleeping on my tummy. I have to keep switching from my left to right sides all night long as my hips get sooooo sore... When I get up in the morning I'm hobbling for the first 20 mins of the day... I'm like a nanna :-)

Anyone else getting atrocious heartburn? Any tips? I've given up eating dinner, but that can't be the only way surely??

Sorry for the big whinge!

Xxx

hamncheese · 08/05/2012 20:38

Oh thanks marmite... I'll be off to adopt what I can only describe as the coffin position :/ which is the comfiest I can be at present hehe

Yes to the heartburn jemima having a bout just now actually bleggh. I don't think for me it's being caused by any specific foods. Rennie Ice are good really cooling and taste nice. Don't bend down cause that sets it off.. and if you do need to get something from low down sort of squat to it, keeping your torso upright. Not eating too much too late does help I think, and not eating stodgey stuff too late, like bread or other slow to digest stuff. Oh and sleep propped up if it's bugging you at night, I was getting this disgusting reflux with it but just an extra pillow has eliminated it :)

Lovemarmite · 08/05/2012 20:41

Hi Missjemima
Gaviscon works. But I've found that if I eat very bland food I'm okay plus eat around 7pm. No fruit, no chocolate, no cheese, no fizzy drinks etc in the evening too. Boring!

Yeap - my hips hurt too from lying on my sides. So getting up earlier to avoid more aches - boring again!

I'm feeling sick in the morning again - oh joys!

missjemima · 08/05/2012 21:13

Well, I'm feeling slightly better knowing I'm not the only one going through this! Was getting reflux every. single. night. Ugh! Now that I'm eating much less at dinner (well... no dinner!) it seems to be getting better - I can't seem to pinpoint a trigger - but staying well clear of chocolate, fizzy drinks and cheese anyway... Having small pot of yoghurt or peanut butter on crackers (while I cook DH steak with salad and baked pots... grrrr)

Ah well - will all be worth it in the end!

PoppyS34wantssleep · 08/05/2012 21:38

Awww :( all the pusscat talk makes me feel sad. Our cat is really old, but he's still hanging on in there, will be absolutely devastated when he goes, we've had him since the early 90s.

I've been sleeping on my back, but propped up with my V pillow, so bump isn't lying on anything he shouldn't, but I alternative between than and on my left hand side, although my left hip really hurts by the morning.

Also getting reflux now, but that's because bump as changed position again and feet are pointing upwards, Gaviscon works for me though (thank goodness!!).

Ham posted an excellent hospital bag list further up post, and the only thing I would add to it would be hand cream because during the two stops I've had in hospital recently my hands have gone really, really dry.

Hi everyone! Grin

Back after ten days of sunshine, a cocktail or two by the pool... Now back to reality!

Lots of posts to catch up on but just wanted to say hello and hope you're all ok, despite the lack of sleep / lack of breath / inability to walk / indogestion etc ?

X

therumoursaretrue · 08/05/2012 22:29

Welcome newroad

I have been rubbish lately at catching up with you ladies so hope you are all keeping well.

I have been quite unwell which isn't pregnancy related (laryngitis!) but spent all day today in maternity admissions as i have been having BP issues and reduced movement. Thankfully all looks ok and was sent home after a days monitoring but have to see MW once a week from now on to keep an eye on BP. Quite relieved that they are being so thorough really.

fairtradelu · 09/05/2012 12:58

Ham: My ribs are generally okay but it hurts like hell when I sneeze. I'm not really sure why but maybe it is rib-related (it is certainly in that area).

Re: hospital bags - when do we need to have them sorted by? I'm not due until 28th Aug so am being quite laid back but there probably comes a time when you really should have it ready to go. Anyone got any suggestions which week this might be?

Lovemarmite · 09/05/2012 13:14

Hoping all is okay rumours and your throat has got better too Flowers

Not sure about the hospital bag, but my naive thoughts is that I'll do it from mid- July as I'm due 11 August - but this maybe way too early! Hmm knowing me, the LO will be very late if she takes after me or on time if takes after DH!

hamncheese · 09/05/2012 13:25

Ok definitely asking MW about this rib pain when I see her next :/

Welcome home ishop ... Envy of your holiday times though, we really need some sun, or warmth, or you know ANY summer type weather here, it's MAY for goodness sake!

I guess you could do what poppy suggested and have a hospital bag ready now with what you've got so far for any unexpected visits or a very early arrival and just add to it as you buy/gather things. The hospital bag stuff I have got so far is sort of in the same area of my house haha so I guess I could scrape it all together in a rush if needed!

I've been cleaning like a maniac this morning and made BBQ and tomato sauce! Anyone else get days where they can barely drag themselves out of bed and then others where they have tonnes of energy? Only thing letting me down is my feet which get quite sore if walking/standing a lot now.

ishopthereforeiam · 09/05/2012 15:22

Thanks ham - most my days I just want to sleep and do very little... although when it's night I seem wide awake Angry

OP posts:
glittershoes · 09/05/2012 15:58

Hello all!

How is everyone? We are really getting through now aren't we? All getting a bit scary - there is so much to sort!

I have a bit of a blonde question....

Baby bedding!

What do we actually need? I have 6 moses basket sheets and 2 moses basket cellular blankets at the moment, I also have five bigger cellular blankets. Is that enough to start with? Or do I need a million more? Are cellular blankets all I need for covers (they seem really thin!) or do I need top sheets/thicker blankets as well?

All the guides just say 3-4 blankets.

Also, is a swaddle pod worth it? It is all so confusing (and expensive!).

Thanks all, everything I have vaguely worked out but the blankets thing has me stumped!

I have managed to tear a muscle (one of my abs - no idea I had them!) which is painful but apparently not dangerous at all, just annoying as it won't heal as it is being continuously stretched. It was a bit worrying to start with as it is right on my bump but happy now my doctor checked it out!

MrsMigginslovespies · 09/05/2012 16:40

Totally with you Ham. Monday I was cleaning like a loony in advance of possible royal visit of MIL and GMIL. Then yesterday, did bugger all. Today, have washed, made lemon curd and ironed. About to start on supper soon.

Re bedding, I've got 4 fitted moses/pram sheets, a couple of blankets and have three swaddles that I've inherited from my sister (I bought one). I'm using Grobags instead of blankets and sheets etc, but am aware that baby has to be above 8lbs before he can use them (but am hoping to swaddle for several weeks). I do need a couple of cellular ones I think though too just in case.

Off for a rest as have headache and feel tired now from all my curd making. Hope all the pulled muscles and rib pains get better soon. x

geekette · 09/05/2012 17:25

Don't have any advice on bedding but could I add a related question?

Anyone got experience with co-sleeping? What should we prepare? Looked at some co-sleeping cots and they are really expensive and, to be honest, I don't really fancy them.

Hoping to cradle the little critter close to me for as long as possible :), if it is willing.

susiegrapevine · 09/05/2012 19:02

Bedding I would suggest if you only have fitted sheet to get one flat moses basket sized one as you made need it if you get a hot summer night. I did with ds as he was born in june and tho he probably didn't need it, I felt bad not having any covers. Plus you can just use the sheet to swaddle no need for expensive swaddle named things! Grobags were a must for me as ds was a wriggler and used to wriggle out from blankets. Had to wait to use as was a tiny 5lb 12 when born!!

Co sleeping I do know they can be in the bed with you as long as neither person has been drinking, smoking or is exhaustivly tired. They must never share your duvet or pillows and it is actually safer to have nothing on the sides of the bed unless your getting one of those things you mentioned specifically for the co sleeping thing. Never have your bed against a wall either. All of these things can cause baby to get trapped between bed and wall or whatever is on the sides. You are probably better off not having a duvet at all and going for old fashioned blankets as is hard with a double one to keep it off baby. The reason for not having one is baby can over heat with adult duvet not designed for them. Hope this helps.

Hospital bags don't really need to be ready until around 36 weeks as you are not considered term until 37 but as said before you may wanna have some stuff on stand by just in case. I didn't and when I went into labour with ds, I didn't actually have the stuff in a bag just in a pile ready and dh put in the bag ready to go. The reason it was not in a bag is cos I had to wash the bag I bought specifically cos I could not stand the smell of it! Lol! It was wet in the washing machine when labour started so dh used another bag we already had doh!

ishopthereforeiam · 09/05/2012 20:47

Re bedding - dd was born in winter and had one pink fleece blanket which we used to swaddle her, two cellular blankets (which i used as bumpers to stop her rolling around) we also had two extra cellular blankets (remained unused). After a month or so we got a swaddle blanket (swaddleme from amazon but you can also pick them up in tk maxx) and one extra blanket (which remained unused!). Plus one fitted cover sheet for the moses basket with an extra terry towelling type mattress protector underneath.

Once dd hit 4-5 months we started using grobags (again you can pick them up at tk maxx cheaper than john lewis etc) and at 18 months she still uses grobags (i feel safer with those than blankets to reduce the risk of suffocation etc).

all in all we had far more than we used! plus this ds will be born in summer so I shan't go to town too much!

Ugh ishop I think I've just experienced the insomnia you've been having. Heading to a meeting with my PhD supervisors - which I haven't seen since I was 12 weeks and told them I was pregnant - on three and a half hours sleep. I am so bad at not being able to sleep, I know you are meant to get up and do something and then try back again but then it's like you are giving up on trying, and the idea that when you do try again you might not get back to sleep and it's all the more frustrating. Seriously wanted to chug some drowsy cough bottle stuff to knock me out but can't cause of the little one! Argh.

In the few hours I did have I did dream about the baby though, that it was a girl and DH was rushing to catch a train and I had her in a carrier but facing forward though she was too small for forward and I was trying to change her position but it was hard. Then I forgot she didn't have a name and was shouting at DH as he got on the train, getting him to agree we were still set on Charlotte. Crazy dreams and little sleep... I feel the third trimester on it's way.

Hope you all had a lot better nights than that!!

Lovemarmite · 10/05/2012 10:27

You're not alone in the insomnia ham
I managed a few good night sleeps over the past two nights and I'm putting the better sleep down to no caffeine after 12 noon. Before that, I've been waking up constantly and not getting back to sleep for a long while for the past month or so (again). I'm hoping I've cracked the secret to better sleep!
Hmm if anyone says again to get as much sleep as possible now - ooooo, I'll scoff at them! It's not possible!

Has anyone else got pain low down that lasts all day? I think it's just round ligament pain and weight gain of bump but I'm catching myself rubbing my belly a lot which must look funny!

ishopthereforeiam · 10/05/2012 10:38

Oh no ham that sounds like a rough night - good luck with the meeting today/ Interesting dream tho! I went to bed at half eleven / midnight slept for an hour then woke up from 1-4am... luckily I have quit work so will try and sneak a nap in now while dd is at nursery to catch up on some zzzzs.

love - i get pains in my lower abdomen when I walk fast, towards the end of the 3rd trimester last time I also used to get stabbing pains down "there" which was mighty uncomfortable, i think it was called "lightening" or something... hoping they don't return!

The3Bears · 10/05/2012 11:35

Hi everyone,

Well I had my 4d scan last night have added some photos to my profile so take a look if you like im 26+5 and baby weighs about 2lb now Shock I really didnt realise they weighed that much yet I thought they put most of there weight on in the next few weeks, but it was amazing he was blinking and yawning It was lovely. He looks just like his older brother who was v excited to watch the dvd we have of the 4d scan :)
It just makes it all seem alot more real, and not that long to go really just cant wait now Grin

Hope your all well, good question about the baby bedding because ds1 was a winter baby so we had tonnes of blankets etc but this one is a summer baby really so abit unsure which blankets to get, need some celluar blankets soon as I dont have any atm gave all ds1's to my sister, so might get them this weekend.

hamncheese · 10/05/2012 13:40

Meeting went well thanks ishop had hoped it would be okay as have been working really hard pre-baby! Good news is the archival research I've been doing will form a chapter of the PhD which can be the one required draft chapter I need before October. So plan is to round up research in May, write in June and revise in July and be done before August and baby time :) Just glad the first chapter doesn't need to be a literature review (yawn!)

Hopefully the caffeine reduction will work for you marmite. I think not having something to blame for the poor sleep is the worst. Last night I was comfy, didn't have to go to the bathroom a lot or anything, just couldn't switch off! People at work today were laughing saying "get used to it" etc which is annoying. I wouldn't mind being up to all hours if I had a reason like a perfect wee baby to care for! It's lying there doing nothing that's the worst!

3bears lovely pictures!! Can't wait for my 4d scan now Grin a friend of DH's had her 4d scan and the baby looked well like an alien and it's been freaking me out that ours will too but yours looks lovely and baby like!

hamncheese · 10/05/2012 13:46

Oh also put up another bump picture today on my profile... been told it's all out front and that that is a boy bump... contradicts my dream of last night but goes with the boyishness of this thread if true (honestly don't think it means a thing but hey ho!!)

alisonmcg · 10/05/2012 14:34

great photos ham and 3bears! I've gotten a bit lazy with taking bump photos so must get back into the habit of it again, especially seeing as it's definitely growing now!

Baby is having another quiet day today, from the sounds of it everyone seems to have them but it still unnerves me a bit. Have felt some movements today but they are weaker than usual and don't think there have been as many. 25+5 today so I think it's still a bit too early to be worried by that as the baby can still get itself into a position where I can't feel it as much. Is anyone else still getting irregular/weaker movements some days?

Was at the doctors yesterday has have had a tight chest for the last few days which is making me feel a bit breathless and I don't have asthma or any allergies. Turns out they think it is because I had heartburn quite a lot last week and that the acid has inflamed my chest making it feel tight!! Ah the glamour of pregnancy. Got given some god awful medicine to take that actually feels like I'm forcing myself to swallow toothpaste and have to take 4 teaspoons at least 4 times a day! uurgh!! Hoping I don't have to take it for the rest of the pregnancy but we shall see!

Hoping to get organised this weekend and finally make a decision about what nursery furniture we want and get it ordered so that will be one thing to tick off the list! Seem to be doing things in reverse though as last night we ordered a mobile for the as yet non-existent cot bed!! It was half price though so couldn't resist. This is the one we got...

www.mamasandpapas.com/product-bedtime-hugs-musical-mobile/756004200/type-i/

We debated about whether or not a baby would be more distracted by a multi-coloured mobile instead but we just thought this one was so cute we couldn't resist!!

Almost Friday people! :)
