Hello all,

Hope you've had a nice weekend. I'm sure I've put on quite a lot, but not weighed myself in a while as scared by the results...face looks the same but bottom, legs, boobs and obviously tummy are bigger. Got some nice cheapo t-shirts in a three pack from New Look for £15 for three and they actually fit quite well. Also bought nice maternity nightie from M&S that's really cute plus has built in bra/feeding bit underneath.

The Baby and Toddler show was good, to report back. My main reason was to go and see Annabel Karmel who spoke a lot of sense and was v nice. Definitely have a look at her books on Amazon, as having spoken to people who have used her, all really like her receipes etc. I got the complete meal planner from baby to toddler and it's lovely. I'm totally clueless about feeding and it's the one area that I'm worried about cocking up. Mum and I also bought a few other bits and bobs, as well as having a laugh at some of the more interesting items for sale...!

Anyhoo, tis still freezing here and we're having cottage pie for supper. Oh yeah, Annabel Karmel also said that pregnant ladies in their last trimester need to keep their iron levels up, so plenty of red meat/lentils!

Loislane78 · 29/04/2012 18:31

Ordered my first baby book last week after some MNetter recommendations; it's the Your Baby: Week by Week. Since its like monsoon season outside, thought I'd have a cheeky packet of M&Ms and a quick read.

Review for anyone interested: very easy to read and i don't feel patronised. The intro says it takes a middle of the road approach ie. feed on demand early on but some tips on routines for when baby a bit older. Makes a point of 'mum knows best' so trust your instincts, its just a guideline. Nice clear headings so you can flick through to the relevant bit. Maybe not for everyone, was worth it for me anyway :)

Hope you're all enjoying your Sunday :)

tashaw28 · 29/04/2012 22:26

Hi all,
My shoulder has been feeling a bit better but counting down the hours till my appt with the chiropractor on tues!! Really need him to click it all back into place pain has been awful :(
Have to say haven't really bought anything yet!!! But have made a list on my phone that I'll think about nearer the time, luckily as it's DC3 I have most things already.
My 6 month old nephew is coming to stay this week (with my bro and SIL) and have made the nursery up for him, and am now freaking out, the next 16 weeks are going to fly I feel!!!!
24 today!

geekette · 29/04/2012 22:30

Got the dates of the NCT nearly new sale wrong and missed it. Bah.

Thanks for BF and walks info! I have started planning routes to take. I didn't think of the flabs. I kind of thought everything just shrinks back... I guess not. Will think of getting some cardis for afterwards too.

Anyone else got the baking bug??? I don't know, I don't usually even make dinner... I have made scones, naans and soda breads recently... all without machine aid, well except the oven, of course. Does it go away? I just feel weird about it Confused

Lovemarmite · 30/04/2012 09:20

Good morning, hope everyone is having a sunny Monday morning!

We have our 4D scan this afternoon at 4 - a bit apprehensive as last time I didn't worry and they picked up our cleft, this time, I am worrying way more and so hoping all will be fine - crazy logic Hmm

Looked at the cath kidston change bags online and the new style does come with a mat, it must have been misplaced in the shop. I think I am keeping my mind off the scan by looking at a list of 'nice to haves' before the list of 'wow, we need all that'

Went to Croydon's Ikea yesterday and had to run back to the car in the rain - okay, that was funny! or not?! Bump was larger than remembered before lifting my legs up and so I kind of did this odd scuffle and then panted for 10 minutes despite having moved as fast as a demented snail. Hmm, ikea crowds - recommendation = don't do it! or stick your bump out and hope people notice you as they push their trolley into you. Managed to get in and out in just over an hour and then settled in the car, all soggy for a picnic!

Glad your shoulder is feeling a bit better tashaw

Hmm baking bug, nope! I am on 'the can't be bothered bug' in the kitchen (again) although a few times have made healthy flapjacks and last night created a yummy Japanese stir fry with home grown chard, tofu and veggies with miso and so feeling virtuous that 5-a-day was easy yesterday. Please send me your baking bug, sounds like fun.

Will check out Annabel Karmel's books soon, thanks for the tip MrsMiggins and also for the book 'Week by Week' Lois will check it out too.

Glad Molly is doing better Ham! Sending her a stroke from here!

ffscatmove · 30/04/2012 10:33

Morning all!
Returned yesterday from a family weekend in the Lakes - weather was much better than back down south & I managed to drive for 5 1/2 hours without falling asleep or hitting anything - result! Also went on a 3 hour walk on the fells & didn't collapse Grin althopugh was puffing like a train a little breathless.
Have routine GP appointment on Weds & planning to check about my weight gain - have gained 23lb so far (25+4) & am horrified - I gained 6lb in a fortnight when my thyroid level dipped about wk 10 but have been properly corrected since. I am at this moment wearing a pair of pre-preg skinny jeans (waist was always too big!) so seem to be mainly boobs n bump but still... I was only just inside healthy range (BMI 24.5) before so am a bit concerned. Still, you all seem to vary so maybe it's ok!
geekette I am baking more too but strangely indifferent about cooking actual meals... keep taking stuff into work so I don't eat it!
Thanks for the tip about Annabel Karmel MrsM
I also love the CK bags marmite but will never get DH to touch them so may go for something a bit more boring unisex.
ham glad Molly is a bit better, Fat Ralph sends a purry get well soon (now he's speaking to us again!)
Anyway, off out to do stuff before the rain comes again!

MrsMigginslovespies · 30/04/2012 10:33

Er, I always have the baking bug Wink. Love baking nice things and in fact, and going to attempt some iced biscuits today for a friend/colleague of DH's who had her first baby on Saturday and whose father died of cancer on the same day. Isn't that truly awful? I cried when I heard, as can't imagine how I'd cope. Anyway, thought I'd do something nice, if tiny, for her.

Raining and cold again here today. BUT, am having cold pizza for brekkie with hot coffee, had lovely Jo Malone bath in sparkling bathroom AND my DSis has sent up a big box full of gorgeous newborn/early clothes from my nephew and I'm thrilled with them all! So cute and definitely don't need any more tiny things now.

I'm dithering about those CK bags too, Lovemarmite. Keep saying I'm not going to get a proper bag and use my nice tote, then keep seeing change bags I like...! Decisions, decisions!

Hope everyone has a nice day and GOOD LUCK with your scan today, Love. x

Lovemarmite · 30/04/2012 18:17

Hello!

Just came back from our 2nd 4D scan and happy to report all is looking good. We asked to make sure DH saw correctly on our nurses' sheet that it's a boy...but it's actually a girl! Sorry Needles to give you more work!
Wow, we're really amazed as the boy news had really sunk in, and so now taking back the obvious blue that I've bought in clothes and blankets - d'oh! Although the Victorians dressed girls in blue and a few pieces will be fine...
Wow, a girl... amazed to have the news! :)

Having another scan at 34 weeks and more appointments with nurses, paediatrician etc.
(25+3)

Hope everyone is having a good Monday

NeedlesCuties · 30/04/2012 18:23

Glad to hear it went well marmite :) I have updated the list.

panpipe · 30/04/2012 19:01

Glad all went well marmite. You must have been so surprised at the girl news!

Does anyone else feel as if time is going really slowly? I feel like I've been 25 weeks for ages (26 tomorrow) and am a bit daunted how much longer there is to go! Having said that I've only got 10 weeks left at work including this one, or 9 really since we're on holiday for one of them Grin. It's weird how some things seem to pass quicker or slower than others.

Had a good but busy weekend. Taking up the carpets as we've got new ones going down this week, though it means I'm now by myself with the floorboards for a few days as DH goes away for work tomorrow. We had a brass band competition yesterday which our band won! I've still completely failed to find a white shirt to wear with my uniform though - maternity ones don't seem to button to the top for a tie and next size up non-mat ones just look weird. I ended up wearing my normal one with a vest underneath and the bottom 2 buttons undone. Classy bird me. I may just get a maternity one and people will just have to live with the fact that I can't wear a tie!

Can I also just have an AAARGH about my MIL. Tempted to vent but that's another essay in itself! Don't we just love them?!

Hope you're all having a good day. I'm taking advantage of mums to be 1st class upgrade on tonight's train home Smile

Loupee · 30/04/2012 19:31

Hello all,

Great to hear everyones news.
Was at the babyshow in Glasgow yesterday, was quite good, picked up few bits and pieces. Also ordered the buggy, they were doing a great deal, got the Uppababy Vista with free footmuff, seat liner and highchair. Although for some reason I've been worried about it, as if I've bought the wrong one, feels strange that my DH hasn't even seen it, yet I've committed a large amount of money to it. Missing him a lot at the moment. Also the colour choice I wanted won't be ready for delivery until the start of July, which should be ideal, but I'm already worried this will end up being delayed further!
Feeling so unmotivated just now, just had some pakora for dinner, need to make more of an effort to cook properly for myself!
Bumped into an old friend yesterday, she is due 3 weeks before me and her bump is so much bigger. Everyone kept saying by bump was small, but I've not really had anything to compare it to. Also my boobs seem to have shrunk again, they did grow a cup size, but I'm back to my old bras. Has anyone else experienced this? Got the midwife on Thursday, hopefully she can reassure me RE bump and boobs.
Think I've got too much time to start worrying about things, think I'll go look at baby things Smile
Hope you are all having a good night.

warzonemummy · 30/04/2012 20:27

Loupee my boobs have gone smaller and softer! wonder why!!!

Gnomi · 30/04/2012 20:34

Hello everyone,

I've put on nearly a stone and a half, which is absolutely terrifying. The thing is, to look at me, you wouldn't know, and i had no idea I was that heavy. The bump is pretty big now though - the midwife measured me at 27cm today (26 weeks), which is 1cm above the average line. She did say it felt like I had a lot of 'liquid' - I'm presuming she meant cushioning the baby.

Am feeling really tired today, a bit like I did in the first trimester. I'm really hoping I just did too much at the weekend and I'm not hitting the third trimester exhaustion early - have way too much to do before then! So far we have sorted:

A buggy
A nappy bin

We have been offered to borrow:

A moses basket
A sling
Some clothes

We still need to get:

Everything - and decorate the nursery!

Just thinking about it is stressing me out! Anyone else feeling this way?

Loislane78 · 30/04/2012 21:34

Been stalking those CK bags as well! Far too many bags already so difficult to justify, except adding one more won't do any harm...:)

Glad it's not just me piling on the pounds (whilst I wish none of us did). How do these people get away with hardly any gain full term when I'm already resembling a weeble!

Very excited to be getting a new bathroom fitted in a couple of weeks! I think the plumber thinks I have some issues as must have asked about 10 times that he leaves a working loo in overnight "just checking" :)

tashaw28 · 30/04/2012 23:04

marmite gorgeous news, although must have been a bit of a shock!!!
I love to bake anyway, but have spent today batch cooking savoury dishes for the freezer, must be in full nesting mode!!!!

WelshLadyCDF · 01/05/2012 07:03

The Ck bags are sweet but I just can't see DP carrying one around!
Am seeing the midwife later on for a check up, looking forward to it, I am getting BIG!!
Also loving the kind words from strangers who want to know when I am due, tell me about their grandkids /children, and wish me luck, have had nothing negative so far.
Xxxx

MrsMigginslovespies · 01/05/2012 08:51

Love, that's amazing news, and glad it all went well! Congrats again! I'm a blue girl myself anyway, so I'm sure a few bits will be sweet! How exciting!

Gnomi, I have wobbles about the spare room not being cleared out and in fact, today I'm going to have another crack at it by chucking out moving some of DH's stuff into a box. Really want to start painting etc by end May, if not before. We also need to sell the bed that's in there and beg the headmaster for use of the handy shed next door to put the pram in/use as a porch (we live in scholl, I should add!) as we've no space at all otherwise for it.

Hope you all have a nice May Day. Any face washing in the dew this morning going on Wink ?? x

hamncheese · 01/05/2012 09:08

Oh I wish my boobs would shrink a bit :( I'm fed up of these massive things that are nothing like my old ones!!!

Congratulations on the girl marmite ... that's one of the reasons I'm glad I'm not finding out incase they got it wrong and I went overboard on sex-specific shopping!

Has anyone been to/heard of the Jack and Jill markets? Looking at the site it appears to be Scotland only but I was told of it last night at classes. Apparently it is like a car boot sale for baby/children (to 9yrs) stuff that is either bought and unused or like new. £1 entry and there is one in Glasgow on Saturday but many more around too... anyway I'm taking DH on Saturday to see will report back! www.jackandjillmarket.co.uk/

Also didn't mention but we are doing some extra parenting classes (ones from birth only) as well as our NCT (which are yet to start) that are free as research for Caledonian University. Anyway last night we were swaddling and trying holding positions etc was great fun. I've never felt confident holding children before, ever, especially as its always someone else's child on the in-law side and they are all so experienced with children (massive family) and I am so not. But we had the dolls and I thought I'd feel like a berk and no good at it but was great fun... felt like the maternal instinct just arrived. Everyone else was just sitting with their dolls abandoned on their lap before/after the actual swaddling lesson but I literally couldn't resist cuddling and holding like you would a baby. Don't know what came over me but left me on a high haha!

Now going to go into town today in search of a few more baby things, the start of hospital bag items and a new swimsuit that fits my incredible hulk-like exploding ribs/boobs/belly scenario Wink

Also feeling really happy that baby is now viable and thinking that will be the case for many of you too, a nice milestone to come to... though we will all still be cooking them for a lot longer I hope!

25+3

susiegrapevine · 01/05/2012 09:31

Wow marmite we needed more girls on the thread! Congrats! Anyway ladies don't forget boots do a free change bag if buy a pack of nappies. Mine is still going strong and ds will be 2 in june!

*missmiggins I feel your pain! When I was 38 weeks with ds our spare room still had no carpet fitted!! So I made dh do it! I said you have to do it now or it will never be done! He was a little annoyed and thought it was pregnancy madness on my part as he did not see the rush! This was on the sat and sun, ds was born on the wed! Now he sees I was right!! Plus I must have know something!! To be honest dh always needs a kick up the bum to get stuff done.

In other news bump was moving around like crazy yesterday!! I think he is just very active! Way more than ds! Have a good may day!

PoppyS34wantssleep · 01/05/2012 09:54

Congrats on the girl marmite :o that's great news.

Nice to read all your updates. Have had a pretty rubbish few days, quite stressed and have felt like crying constantly, which kind of matches the weather :)

Have started to update my list with stuff I want to get, so that when we start buying I'll know what to get and my DSis has started buying practical stuff like nappies etc.. which is very lovely of her, and makes me feel a bit better.

But still no house, and stressing about what we'll do or where we'll move too, still no classes booked, very very unprepared.

Anyhoo - nicked this from the other thread about weight gain
www.thebabycorner.com/tools/pregnancy/calculators/weightcalculator.php
and am pleased to find out that I'm spot on for weight gain - phew.

hamncheese · 01/05/2012 10:02

It's still a long way off yet but I wanted to start bringing things together for a hospital bag so have made a list, again collaborating items from posts on here. Guess it's never too early to prepare it. Any alterations or advice feel free to say! Most people recommended two bags to save having tonnes of unnecessary stuff while in labour. There is probably way too much if you were to take everything on here but this way you can score off things you don't need/add other stuff and make your own list:

Hospital Bags

Labour and immediate Post-Delivery

Nighties ? that will get dirty; buttoned for skin-to-skin
Large Throw Away Pants ? many pairs
Bodysuits ? in a few sizes depending on how big baby is
Hat, mittens, cardigans for baby
Sanitary Towels ? Maternity ones, night-times ones, tena ones all recommended
Nappies ? perhaps two different sizes depending on how big baby is

Birth Plan
Pregnancy Notes

Hair brush
Hair bobbles
Lip balm
Old Towel for a shower
Plastic bag for dirty clothes

Energy Drinks in Sports Cap Bottles
Bottled water kept in freezer before you go in
Glucose tablets

Ipod for music or any relaxation/hypnobirthing stuff
Hand held fan, water spray, flannel
Hot Water bottle
Camera
Phone

After-Delivery Bag

Nighties or PJ?s in DARK colours, preferably with buttons for BF
Nursing Bra/vests/tops
Socks
Slippers
Bodysuits and Babygros, multiple and in varied sizes
Baby Blanket
Nappies, Nappy disposal sacks, Wipes
Fold up changing mat
Breast Pads

Clothes to go home in
Baby going home outfit

Cereal/Energy Bars and Biscuits
Water and energy drinks
Earplugs/Eyemask
Toiletries
Tissues
Paracetamol

Paper and Pen
Book
Phone and Phone charger

Other Suggestions

Keep a separate bag with extra food and drink (bottled water, cereal bars) in the car for both DH if long labour and you if staying a while

Keep Pillows in car ? normal ones for comfort and breast feeding one if necessary

The3Bears · 01/05/2012 10:44

Hello everyone,

marmite What a lovely suprise :) congrats

hamncheese that list is great I have a couple of bits in a hospital bag already but need to get alot more bits, Really hope this labour is much shorter than my last as I dont like hospitals at all.

Well this Sunday was very weird from about 4am Saturday I was getting really bad tightenings all around the bottom of my belly, they would come and go constantly and baby was hardly kicking but I could feel him doing some very odd movements. They finally stopped by Monday when I woke up and baby has now been kicking etc as normal but it really worried me, he felt really low down aswell, it cant have been braxton hicks this early surely Shock

25+3 102 days to go!

MrsMigginslovespies · 01/05/2012 11:34

Ham thanks for list. Eeek, seems so much stuff. My sister put her sports bottle in the freezer so it was nice and cold for a while when she went in, as water in hospital is always warm apparently.

Yes, I'm going to a Jack and Jill in Galashiels on Sunday! I think it is a Scottish thing, but sure there's similar in Engerland too.

Bit the bullet and bought a breast pump too today from Ebay! Hardly used, and once I'd got over my OCD and realised it can all be sterilised, was a good price. Have gone for the Medela Swing in case you're interested. And if I don't use it/get on with it/can't breast feed, will resell.

geekette · 01/05/2012 12:17

what a list Ham. had never heard of the cold water thing...

3Bears, I get the hard tummy thing every once in a while... I am only 24+0. I try not to let anything worry me now even if I cannot explain it.

and congrats marmite! Been looking forward to the girl announcements
