Just thought I'd give you all a heads up about a discount code I found for Seraphine Maternity online: BBMG20 which gives you 20% off until 18th May.

I ordered this but it didn't really fit, so I'm swapping it for this instead. We have my cousin's 18th birthday party this weekend and a wedding a few weeks later and for once it's true when I say I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!

And I may also have ordered some of these (hides credit card...)

warzonemummy · 01/05/2012 14:36

hamncheese thanks for the list. I will start packing as of 20th June when I am back in London.

panpipe I LOVE the purple dress. Enjoy wearing it.

I am half a kilo below the maximum weight I am allowed so I have been really good girl since last week and eating less and less rice and more fruits and vegetables and proteins. I have not put on any weight but my bump has grown MAHOOOOSIVE. I was looking at myself in the mirror and for the first time in 26+ weeks I thought about actually having to give birth to a proper little human soon. I panicked a bit but not too much.

panpipe · 01/05/2012 15:33

warzone I loved the purple one but it didn't really suit me unfortunately so am trying the blue instead. It's actually dawned on me that the party is this weekend not next one so I may have to phone to ask (and pay!) for quicker delivery as knowing my luck it'll turn up the day after!

I did the weight calculator thing and it looks like I'm 4lb below what I should be. I weighed last week and had put on just over half a stone (25+something at that point). I measured 1 week smaller at last MW appt too so now having a slight panic that I'm not eating enough and baby isn't getting what it needs (runs to the cake vegetables).

glittershoes · 01/05/2012 16:02

Found you all!

Wow - a lot of posts! I too am feeling massive and have really popped recently. I have also been pretty much eating what I like but am luckily all bump right now, although I may have to curb all the food if I want it to stay like that! No idea on what I weigh but then I don't know what I weighed to start with so no comparison really.

Loving the lists although they are a tad scary! There are so many things I had forgotton or I am confused about! Everything seems so pricey! We have some bits and pieces like a pram on order (M&P Zoom), carseat on order, two moses baskets (both of them gifts) and lots of little clothes but still need a cot and everything for the nursery. I had forgotton about actual decoration like curtains!!

I am generally well although had a trip to the doctor's this morning as I have got a really dull, sort of throb at the top of my bump on the left hand side, the area is super itchy too (although nowhere else) and the skin is numb - all very weird. He seems to think it is a combination of a strained muscle (with all the stretching) and some trapped nerves in my back (making the patch numb - I total do not understand that either!). It isn't too painful just annoying and a bit wearing to be honest. And here was me boasting about sailing through pregnancy!

I am loving all the little kicks I am getting! Currently I am veering between wanting the baby to arrive now (but full term and healthy obviously!) and wanting my pregnancy to go on as long as possible (but feeling perfectly great and not uncomfy...), anyone else feel like that? I think, if I think about it for any length of time, it just seems like there is so much to do and that the responsibility of having a teeny baby is a bit overwhelming. Also scared myself reading a couple of threads on hard the first few weeks are.

So, repeat after me,

'My-baby-will-sleep-through-the-night-straight-away-and-not-cry-too-much-and-take-to-breastfeeding-really-well-and-I-will-fine-time-to-somehow-look-phenominal-and-rested-and-there-will-be-no-issues-and-nothing-unexpected-and-the-baby-will-be-great-with-cuddles-from-family-and-friends-but-still-like-me-the-best'

Because if we say it enough then it will come true....

MrsMigginslovespies · 01/05/2012 16:51

Glitter you make me smile with your mantra!

fairtradelu · 01/05/2012 16:58

Amen to that Glitter!

Thanks for the list Ham. Seems like a lot of stuff to get sorted. When are you supposed to start organising things for the hospital? I guess I feel a bit like if I start thinking about that now it is wishing the pregnancy away somehow but I suppose it is definitely best to be prepared just in case.

Can I pick your brains on sleeping? I always sleep on my side but the past few weeks I've been waking up through the night and every time
I wake up I am on my back, despite falling asleep on my side like I have always done. So I have 2 questions: how bad is it if you sleep on your back during pregnancy (and why?) and do maternity pillows help you stay on your side? I've been planning on buying one but fear it'll mean husband has to sleep on the floor due to space issues so have been putting it off...

WelshLadyCDF · 01/05/2012 17:21

fair there is a reason why sleeping on your back is not good but i can't remember, i know that if you sleep on your left your kidneys etc get a good clean out something to do with circulation, i have just bought this www.dreamgenii.com/?section=shop&product_category=basics_pillow_range which stops you rolling either way, it arrived today so i hope it's ok.
just had a good midwife appt and bought two sweet dresses (in immaculate condition from the charity shop aged 0-3 months) as a reward for me and 'her',

Vinolover · 01/05/2012 17:32

3bears I have been getting lots of BH's these last few weeks but like you I had them really bad on saturday and it put the frightners on me I have to say. I had barely felt him move and he had been really active all week. I blamed it on moving tables around at work etc and it was so busy that day, I am certainly not doing that again!! I'm happy to say he's kicking around again now :)

Congratulations Marmite :)

Fair I use the dreamgenii pillow like Welsh has suggested above and it does stop you from going on your back and it's so cosy to snuggle up to.

I certainly think this little fella is head down now. The pressure on my bladder is horrible and I'm getting lots of jabs around the bottom of my ribs.

The3Bears · 01/05/2012 18:10

vino Yes it really scared me aswell, never expected to get them so early but I supose with it being my 2nd pregnancy I was bound to get them earlier.

Are the dreamgenii pillows really worth it? I keep adding one to my amazon basket and then thinking I dont really need one, I am sleeping quite well atm but do go on my back alot. Does anyone know if they are good for breastfeeding afterwards as they look so big?

Booked my 4d scan for next Wednesday v excited for it, it will be near enough the same dates as I saw ds1 nearly 6 yrs ago at 26+5 so will be fun to see if they look the same :)

Just recieved the most cutest baby pramsuit that I ordered from babygap [http://www.gap.eu/browse/product.do?pid=5626480070036&cid=60850] it's thinner than the usual snow suits so will be handy for the odd weather we have in Aug :)

NeedlesCuties · 01/05/2012 18:17

fairtrade I never used a special pillow when sleeping during pregnancy with DS nor when bf him. Mainly cuz I couldn't get my head round paying £££ for a pillow and I was worried that I wouldn't like it even if I did get it.

As for sleeping on ones back I think (through the distant mists of time) I read that's something to do with the artery and blood circulation. But the book I read said that you'd need to be lying on ones back for hours and hours before it did any harm. Could be totally wrong though, so don't quote me! Maybe ask the MW next time you see her.

susiegrapevine · 01/05/2012 21:09

Thanks poppy for the pregnancy calculator thing have been overly worrying about my weight gain as was over weight to start with! However am smack in the middle of the wieght gain i should have so am happy.

yeah the back thing is to do with blood flow to the baby as it puts pressure on a major artery. not sure how long you can do it for etc, however i had dream genii for last pregnancy and it was a god send not been using it so much this time tho cos i started using it and dh kept cuddling up to it and squashing me or pushing me out the bed!! Stopped using it and he stopped doing it. Not uncomfy at the mo so will leave it a while and then try again may have to fit it with spike to keep him off!! its mine not yours!!!!

ffscatmove · 01/05/2012 21:12

fairtradelu (& others) the reason you shouldn't sleep on your back past about now (wk 25) is because the weight of the baby can press on the big vein returning blood to your heart, reducing the flow.
At this stage it's not likely to cause a problem but will do later on when bubba gets bigger & our bellies are more crowded! You would notice this happening as feeling dizzy / sick / lightheaded or fainting/blacking out.
Propping a pillow or wedge under your right hip is usually enough to prevent it(it's what the hospital does during a caesarean when you have to lie on your back). Sorry lesson over!
3bears LOVE the pramsuit, my credit card is itching again.....

faintpinkline · 01/05/2012 21:49

Hello again.

Just realised I'm 26 weeks tomorrow so jsut 14 months left to go until due date. Its starting to feel very real now. Not long left of this trimester

fairtradelu · 01/05/2012 21:53

Thanks all for the info and advice. Will look into getting a pillow this weekend. Don't like the sound of baby cutting off the blood supply to my heart!!!

Incidentally, I spoke to my mum about it and she said that as a physio they used to advise people to put a cork under the sheet (to people after hip replacements) so you would stop rolling over. Doesn't sound quite as nice an option as a nice comfy pillow (in fact it sounds fairly unpleasant!) but would work for those not wanting to shelve out for a pillow.

panpipe · 01/05/2012 22:09

I've got a Dream Genii pillow too that I managed to get second hand at the NCT sale. It's really comfy and the little back pillow thingy seems helpful in stopping me ending up on my back. Like susie's DH though mine has also taken a liking to it and I normally find him cuddling into it if he's in bed before me!

PoppyS34wantssleep · 01/05/2012 22:55

I bought a maternity pillow, one of those v-shaped things with foamy balls in it, but from Ebay. It's a BabyDan Collection one and cost £8 - it's marvellous! :o really comfy to use, and can even sleep propped up :)

hamncheese · 02/05/2012 08:11

I second the V-shaped like poppy if you put one arm of the v down your back and the other under your neck/head it stops you rolling onto your back mostly. You still need a pillow for bump at the front but a little one does the job no bother.

Yesterday I went out and got a bunch of hospital bag stuff including dark PJs and nighties with buttons, big pants and such. Also for anyone looking for a cheap "maternity" swim suit, I went to Primark and got a tankini top a couple sizes up and normal sized bottoms as they sell them separately. Nice and cheap, covers bump to a large extent. I've never been keen on swimsuits (prefer bikinis) as they don't look good on me but didn't want to be totally like HERE IS MY BUMP for all to see.

MrsMigginslovespies · 02/05/2012 16:31

Hello all. Am Smile at all the DHs who snuggle up to the pillow. Mine also does it, and if I gave him half a chance, he'd be off with it, esp as he says I'm always so hot at night!! Bless. I nearly always end up on my back which I also find the most comfy, but am aware of the vein thing too. Boo. Also really miss sleeping on my tummy.

Not a lot to report really other than I had our puppy stripped today (she's a Border terrier, so has a double coat and they rip out out the top bit, bit like a wax). Sounds cruel, but isn't. She looks so lovely now and she was so good, esp as it was her first groom. Am v proud mummy! And all is forgiven as last night she destroyed a BRAND NEW pair of shoes I'd bought from Clarks in the sale but decided I didn't like, so was planning to take them back. And now I can't. Was v cross but dogs are dogs and she's a teenager at the mo, but she's trashed a couple of things recently. But still, could really have done without wasting £20. Anyhoo, enough dog news for today! Sun is actually shining and it's lovely outside. Fajitas for supper with nachos. Yum. x

Vinolover · 02/05/2012 17:00

Another here with a DH who loves my pillow. He is only allowed to admire it from afar until atleast the baby has been born! I should really have got him one for his birthday last week!!

I had really strong cramping again last night coupled with back pain and it seemed to go into my inner thighs, kind of like early labour pains. It really scared me actually as it was coming in waves and I got to the point where I thought if it carried on I was going to ring the hospital, luckily it stopped. I'm having a stressful time with work at the moment and I think it must be something to do with that.

MrsM I am really Envy about your dinner! I had a serious nacho craving not long ago which I managed to satisfy but it seems to be rearing it's head again! Hope you enjoy :) We're having pasta - again! This baby is going to come out shaped liked fusilli if i'm not careful!

dragonleo · 02/05/2012 19:30

thanks for the code panpipe- i'm obsessed with seraphine! This is a great excuse to buy more dresses for summer

MrsLister · 02/05/2012 19:52

Hi ladies - writing this from my sickbed where I've been laid out with a rotten cold. I'd kill for a Beechams :(

Poppy - sorry for the ridiculously late reply but hello back and it's nice to hear you've been reading my blog! Must admit I'm a bit shit at updating it at the mo but planning a new post this weekend.

PanPipe - thanks so much for the Seraphine code. Just bought myself a couple of swimsuits using it! Much appreciated. Most of my maternity wear has been H&M thus far as I dont want to spend ££££ but I needed to spend a bit more on a cozzie due to 'support' issues - all the cheap ones seem to flimsy to hold my FF's!

Weight wise I am astonished that I've only put 5lbs on but I think that is more to do with my lack of appetite in the first 18 weeks. It's now back with a vengeance so I imagine I'll be catching up soon... It's a good thing for me though as I was slightly overweight to begin with.

Shopping wise I've bought some bits for baby from Gap and White Company (both in sale) and will likely get some basic baby gros from John Lewis. I've also now got the cot set up and ordered my pram and carrier (all Stokke as mentioned before). I think that's all our 'big' purchases made now - friend is lending me a car seat (we don't have a car so will be very rarely used) so no need to buy one.

I have also bought THIS v shaped pillow after decided I didn't want to spend silly money and THIS book to read now that I've finished What To Expect!

Have you all been moisturising your bumps? I'm getting a bit obsessed with it!

Put THIS on in the morning (as recommended by a friend who swore by it) and DH rubs THIS on in the evening (he bought it me for my birthday and loves chatting to bump as he rubs it in!).

I know it's not going to make a blind bit of difference if I'm genetically predisposed to stretch marks (unfortunately my mum is no longer with us so I can't ask her) but it makes me feel better anyway.

Sorry for the long blether!!

Mrs L xx

23 wks tomorrow

Loislane78 · 02/05/2012 20:26

Hey Ladies

I have to go to drop-in centre for 25 wk appt which is not within my usual surgery. Just wondering where you get your MatB1 form from? Can I just call my doctors and go pick it up?

TIA :)

panpipe · 02/05/2012 23:28

Lois I got my MATB1 form from my MW. I'd imagine they carry a stock with them but can you give her a ring in the morning to check she has one?

susiegrapevine · 03/05/2012 08:27

Hey vino you have my sympathies with the leg cramp thing. Got terrible cramp at 5.30 this morn not nice when you are half a sleep!
Told dh this morn and he said oh your not gonna get the leg cramps this time round are you?? I was like I had them last time so what made you think I wasn't gonna get em again?? Men! He's only miffed cos last time I had a really bad one late on in pregnancy in which I woke him up by flaling my arms and shouting! He was really concerned I think he thought I was I'm early labour or something!
