Anxious over phone message from specialist midwife

Sorry to sound like a stress bunny or anxious annie, but can I run a few things past you all.
I got home at 4.30 to a message of the answerphone from a specialist midwife at my local hospital. She asked me to call her back tomorrow between 9 and 4 as she wants to discuss one of my blood tests.
I had my 16 week quadruple blood test last Thursday (as they couldn't do nuchal scan at 12 weeks scan due to a big fibroid in the way), and it is only the following Tuesday now. I'm really concerned that there is something not right with Bubbs due to the speed of the midwife's response and I'm already panicking and really tearful, what-iffing all over the place. I don't know if I'm going to be able to sleep tonight, not being able to get hold of the specialist midwife to find what's up. I'm trying really hard not to jump to the negative, but I was told that we'd hear in a couple of weeks if all was well, so I am really worried all is not well.
What could it be? Please help me to think a bit more rationally over this. The not knowing what she is going to say when we call her is going to send me loopy tonight otherwise.
Thanks MNers. x

Soozy That's absolutely fabulous news! Congratulations! I'm so pleased and relieved for you!Grin I've been checking the thread all afternoon, thinking of you xxx
Fantastic that they have given you reassurances of v quick consultant attention if you need it in the future, but otherwise give you normal ante-natal care. I hope you have a trouble - free and blissful rest of your pregnancy!
I feel like I know you...your support has been very much appreciated and valued! Xx Thank you! X

I've been hoping in and out of the thread all day to see how you're all getting on!

Soozy congrats on your news. It's such a relief, I know! Onwards and upwards for a trouble free rest of pregnancy. (We had our 20 week scan today and all fine. I think I can finally start to enjoy this pregnancy now. )

Good luck to Joosie and anyone else waiting.

What wonderful news, soozy - absolutely delighted for you, must be SUCH a relief! Yipee! Might you be hearing today, joosie? I will be keeping my fingers crossed for more good news - bed-bound today so I should be able to keep it up without distraction! Smile
Had my amnio yesterday afternoon. We were an hour late going in - still, good to get those nerves REALLY finely tuned! - but after that it was all pretty straightforward. The consultant wasn't really the warm and cuddly type, but there was a lovely midwife who didn't ask, "WHY are you crying?" as I burst into dramatic sobs as the needle went in... unlike the consultant...! I had a really thorough scan and she said that everything looked fine, as far as she could see. As joosie, soozy and others had said, it didn't really hurt, just felt quite uncomfortable and very strange and it was over quite quickly, though I was surprised by how much fluid they needed - seemed like gallons! Had to wait at the hospital for a little while and have a cup of tea and a chat with the nice midwife - she was very thorough in finding out exactly how, when, where I wanted to be contacted with the results, which I found reassuring. I have a long meeting at work on Thursday afternoon, that I really can't avoid, (brilliant!) and I know that I will be much less stressed through it knowing that there is no possibility of a phone call then. (Mr Biccies on duty for that session!)
Came home and straight to bed - feeling sore, but haven't had any cramping yet. Mr B has put in sterling service, bless him, and the bedroom is like mission control, with every possible means of communication and a well-stocked buffet. Little Biccies is totally non-plussed by it all, just why IS Mummy still in bed?! She's gone to Nursery now, dread to think what stories they are hearing. Got a day of guilt-free, mind-numbing tv planned, actually feeling much calmer than I have for a while. Nothing to do now but wait.
Good luck joosie xx

Have been watching this thread (with my upcoming 12 week scan in the back of my head). I just wanted to say I wish you all the luck joosie and biccies and am really pleased to read your wonderful news soozy. xxx

joosiewoosie · 07/02/2012 17:13

Good news! Grin
We heard from the midwife at 1.30 today, who said that Bubbs is clear of Downs, Edwards and Patau syndromes! SO relieved - it's an unbelievable feeling. They are not going to do any other chromosomal checks, as they are happy with the outcome of the initial results, so we don't need to hold our breaths for 10 more days after all :-) So we are joining the 'we survived' club with you, Soozy!
We have our 20 week scan in 2 weeks, so not long to see Bubbs again. I've not felt any flutters over the past few days, but that's probably because the knots in my tummy were hiding any! The midwife said that I should just call her to arrange a quick reassurance listen/scan if I feel like it over the next few days, so thats good too.
MrJoosie and I are going out for a meal tonight, just because we feel like it now...a small celebration nibble!
Biccies - your experience of the amnio sounds exactly like mine - and I blubbed alot too! Glad to hear you are resting up completely. I hope you are taking it easy tomorrow too. We'll be thinking of you all week, especially on Thursday or Friday. Our 4 days was the longest 4 days of our lives, but you have your LittleBiccies to keep you busy and occupied, so here's wishing you speedy and positive results. Please keep us posted xx
Thank you to all the lovely MNers who have offered their well wishes and thoughts...it has been a really tough time, but being able to chat and let off steam has prevented me from physically exploding with the stress and confusion of it all!
Hugs xx

Congrats Joosie! Hope you have a lively relaxing meal tonight! Not long till your 20 week scan, you shod hopefully start to feel the baby move soon too, which is just the best feeling.

Also best of luck Biccies - here's to speedy and good results before the weekend. They can be surprisingly quick sometimes!

Best of luck to any further test results anyone is waiting for.

Lively or lovely meal - whichever you prefer! Grin

passthebiccies · 07/02/2012 19:10

Oh, joosie, that is fabulous news, really happy for you. Smile What a relief to have the worry gone - you can enjoy the months to come now. Thanks for your kind wishes and support, and to the others who have posted them too. Have been very calm today (possibly in some kind of iced gem/daytime tv induced coma?!) when I knew there was no chance of hearing - they did say initially that the results could come within 2 to 3 days (though later backtracked and went for a 3-4 estimate), so I'll probably be like a cat on a hot tin roof tomorrow! Just keeping the fingers crossed...
Again, soooo pleased for you xx

SoozyWoozy · 07/02/2012 19:33

Waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooooo :o

You next biccies - they say things happen in threes :)

Biccies LOL about iced gems...I love them. What perfect pampering treats! And an active sense of humour in adversity - superb! Everything is crossed for your speedy and good results xx
Thanks Soozy , here's hoping we can induct Biccies into the 'i survived' club too v soon. Xx

SoozyWoozy · 08/02/2012 10:22

Mmmm, Iced gems.... I think I might have to 'crave' some of those and eat a whole big bag to myself :)

Thinking of you biccies . Hurry up results!!! Wink

passthebiccies · 08/02/2012 11:17

Thanks everyone - bit panicky today, yikes! Have moved on from iced gems to choc gems - golly, they're good! soozy, make sure you get a multipack; a disappointing yield in those tiny packets! Wink Could be doing myself some serious damage with all this daytime tv... just tuned into Diagnosis Murder after having already explored the various 'Real Housewives of...' opportunities that Sky has to offer. Been awake since 5:30 when Little Biccies jumped on me, excited about a day with Granny and Grandpa, so should have got my full quote of stressing in by lunchtime. Hmmm....lunch.....?!? Oh Lord, will need to be winched out of the house by the time this bloody phone call comes!! Aaaargh!!

Pretty much NO chance of results coming today, but I just can't help hoping that some keen bean at the lab wanted some overtime....!! x

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 08/02/2012 13:09

I am so, so pleased for you Grin

joosiewoosie · 08/02/2012 16:36

Hope you get the call tomorrow Biccies. Thinking of you (and now of those choc and iced gems you have made me crave!!) Fingers crossed xx
