Just did two pg tests and positive (although faint). Took 10 months ttc last time and as DD is almost one I've only had periods for a few months so this is a hugely pleasant surprise!

Anyone-else out there?

Hi all - I'm now 7 weeks pg with DC2. I had a miscarriage last year at 11 weeks (baby had not grown since 4 weeks) and am PETRIFIED that this will happen again. I've been feeling sick, have enormous boobs, terrible wind etc. I felt grotty this morning and had a cereal bar before I left the house which helped. I'm now convinced that because I don't feel sick, something's gone wrong. I'm genuinely scared that I will have an MC again. I've spoken with DH about a private scan. Everytime I go to the loo, I'm fully expecting to have bled just like before. It' s so stressful.

Lovemarmite · 11/01/2012 10:01

Hi theressomethingaboutmarie I think this time is really scary too and got concerned as my sickness stopped at 8 weeks but luckily I spoke to the MW and was told that it is normal as around 6-7/8 weeks things start to often settle down a bit. I felt sick from moment of conception and so the feelings going have been a worry... sometimes I don't feel anything but the MW said that if you're still tired, then that's a good sign.
You say you feel grotty - that must be a sign in itself?

Hope you feel better soon x

rslnd · 11/01/2012 10:33

Hi everyone,
I posted on here (what feels like) ages ago but just got back from holiday.
Just got my booking appointment and scan dates through- will be right at the end of the 13th week. Can't believe they are making we wait so long!! In my head I thought I'd be seeing someone at or before 12 weeks (next week for me).

Would you guys start telling people at 12 weeks if you haven't had the scan yet? Or wait it out that extra week to make sure everything is ok?

Ps- loving marmite- every morning. Normally with chocolate milk!

tashaw28 · 11/01/2012 10:38

Morning all,
Just wanted to say I called my local private hosp this morning and they said a viability and dating scan is £100 for single pregnancy and £120 for multiples!! How crazy is that rule!!! Like they're going to get the extra £20 off you after if they find more than 1!!!! I couldn't believe it!

blackcatsdancing · 11/01/2012 10:41

theressomethingaboutmarie you have my sympathies. I had similar sounding miscarriage to you about 20 years ago and am paranoid about another one - though i did get pregnant and carry to term healthy baby soon after that . I don't think the fear ever goes away. Symptoms can come and go, i had 3 good days last week and now now back to feeling sick again all day every day. I had a private scan at 7+2 to reassure me that something was actually there and am glad I did but it only allays the fear for a certain period of time.

Morning everyone. Another awful nights sleep. Dead on my feet this morning - no work today thankfully. The cough i had for 3 weeks over Christmas has come back so i can't sleep! i keep telling myself no sleep is good practice for when baby arrives (am thinking positively today about baby actually arriving, healthy and full term rather than focusing on everything that can go wrong).

MrsMigginslovespies · 11/01/2012 10:46

Hello ladies,

Sickies have come back over past few days in the evenings oddly, and properly this morning, so feeling tired and bleuch. All this MW stuff is v interesting though, as I have mine tomorrow, so bit anxious to see what they come up with. Hope I get a bounty pack, but am bringing Mum who knows all about this stuff stuff as she went through it all with my sister recently.

I'm 8+1 now, so hoping I can get another scan in by next month (this will be my 3rd). Am meant to be freelancing doing a new job and just can't face it all today. Luckily, can work from home in hideous dress and leggings with no makeup on, as feel pants! Diet Coke seems to help, as does marmite on toast.

theressomethingaboutmaire, I too had sickness at about 5/6 weeks, then it went away. Now it's back again! Your symptoms sound just like mine, and although I'm paranoid too, am trying to stay calm and collected! Good luck and post on here if you're feeling stressed.

[marmite icon] to all! x

practicallyimperfect · 11/01/2012 11:28

I've had to get anti-sickness tablets like last time, just can't keep anything down. Hopefully they will work so I can get back to work tomorrow.

I have midwife on Monday. I loved my midwives last time. I'm not bothered by bounty pack, it is just loads of marketing.

NeedlesCuties · 11/01/2012 12:09

I got my letter in the post today for my scan.... will be getting it when I'm only 10+5 weeks along, but I'm looking forward to it as so far I haven't given in and paid for a private scan :) So on 2nd Feb I'll be getting it and my booking in appt. The letter said to allow 3 hours for this! Urg! Surely they have my notes from my last time which should speed things up? Or is that too sensible?

Saw the community midwife yesterday and we were talking about my first experience and first labour (this is a routine appt for all pregnant people in the area, not just for me) and she freaked me out a bit talking about things that could go wrong with my scar tissue from the 2nd degree tear from DS's birth.... Trying to not freak out at this early stage (am not even 8 weeks along yet) but it's hard not to be scared.

Sorry for the moaning! Need a Brew

Estya my DS1 is fast too and touching everything he shouldn't so am constantly picking him up to move him to safety. Thinking of getting a Stanna stairlift fitted to ferry him upstairs when my bump gets bigger and I can't manage all the lifting!

blackcatsdancing we are flying the flag for the naughty forties!

Feeling a little sick now so going to get a choccie biccie

mrsmamma · 11/01/2012 13:47

Rang the hospital today and I have to ring back Friday! I will be 12 bloody weeks on Friday so am jealous of all you who have had scan dates already!

I'm fuming and contemplating changing hospitals! I've started telling people already! Know I'm not going to have my scan until 14 weeks at least and can't wait that long to tell it's not fair!!!! I guess if things are not good I'll just have to untell them! This is an exciting time that I want share with people and am mad that I'm being put the back of the queue!!

I'm ranting apologies!!!

Bounty back was rubbish, full of marketing so I wouldn't be fussed either! 1 free nappy and a minuscule pot of Sudacrem in mine x

NathanDetroit · 11/01/2012 14:16

Aw mrsmamma that sounds pretty shoddy, I have to say! Sounds rather disorganised. :(

Just booked my private dating scan - bit naughty but I want to know if everything is ok, and then tell my family if it is. The woman on the end of the phone was so busy gossiping with her friend she thought I was after an anomaly scan so that ended up being a long call as she had to delete it and start again. SIGH. So, Saturday morning! Have midwife next Wednesday which ties in nicely whatever they find! :)

Am finding that stress makes my tummy hurt a lot. So much rushing around this morning I was in quite a lot of pain. But then had lunch with a lovely friend who I told and she cried! Feel a lot better now and rather loving telling people as they are so nice!

xx

glittershoes · 11/01/2012 14:37

Hi everyone!

I disappear for a few days and it all goes crazy busy in here!

I'm fine, tootling along, definitely got a more rounded tummy but not actually bigger if that makes any sense! I have been super tired the last couple of days as well.

I have my booking appointment on the 23rd and we book the scan then I think, the midwife reassures me that they guarantee to do the scan by the time I am 12w6d but we will see!

We are off to Scotland on Monday for five days to stay in a log cabin with friends (have had to tell all five of them, it is usually a heavy drinking affair and there is a hot tub so it would definitely be noted if I didn't do any of them!).

Can anyone recommend a good book for Dads-to-be?

We currently have Pregnancy 2012 which is ok but I want something for my DH to make him feel more involved. He is being so lovely and helping me with everything but I am quite aware that, other than me being tired and (more) unreasonable, he really doesn't have much of an idea on what's going on!

There is one recommended in the back of Pregnancy 2012 that looked really good but can't remember what it is - does anyone have a copy to hand that they could check? Or any that they recommend?

Angel786 · 11/01/2012 16:45

rsind I'd prob wait an extra week to be sure....

glitter last time around dh and I used to read the BBC pregnancy weekly calendar so he'd (and I!) could see what was happening with the baby. Other than that we had the nhs purple pregnancy book but think that's been phased out now? I read what to expect when you're expecting but found it long and tedious Blush. Dd came a week early and I hadn't read the labour chapter yet!

mrsmama that's awful!!! I'd be outraged...

theressomethingabout hoping the pregnancy progresses well, have you thougt about an early scan to put your mind at rest?

PictureThis · 11/01/2012 17:20

My GP appt isn't for another fortnight yet. It was supposed to be next week but the surgery cancelled and remade it for the following week by which time I'll be nearly 9 weeks. So I went into work today where they've sorted out my NT scan and I've had my booking bloods taken. It's a bit arse about face but I didn't want to miss the slot for my NT scan as we're away from 12 weeks for 10 days.

tashaw28 · 11/01/2012 17:55

Hmmm got my Nhs scan date today and it is at 13/4 so phoned to change it and they didn't believe me when I said I was sure of my dates as I have very short cycles so I know exactly when I ovulate! Anyway they changed it, reluctantly, to 12/2! Can't believe I have another 4 weeks to wait Sad. I did phone for a private viability scan but they only do it on Tuesday's 4.30-6.30. Not great if you have 2 other children with you then!

Alizzle · 11/01/2012 18:35

glittershoes i've got my dh a book by Jon Smith, it's called something like pregnancy for men, he's actually started reading it so that's a good sign!

Alizzle · 11/01/2012 18:38

Make that the Blokes guide to pregnancy.

Lovemarmite · 11/01/2012 18:44

Hi Picturethis and everyone over 35 - sorry to not include the lovely young ladies!

We're the same age and so interested in your scans, hope this is okay that I pry?!. I have been for my first MW appointment which was exactly on my 9 th week, however I was only offered the dating scan and the combined scan which is is not the NT scan. Did you request the NT scan or was it offered?

I am not quite sure I want to go through with the NT one as it sounds intrusive but it has got a good result for accuracy so unsure and apprehensive about it it and the results.
Thanks for your thoughts x

Gnomi · 11/01/2012 19:10

rsind I've got the same question. I had a scan at 9+1 and everything was absolutely fine, heartbeat seen, just my dates which were a bit out. I've got another scan booked for 12+6 but I really want to tell my grandparents when we visit them at 12+2. It'll be their first great grandchild so it'll be special for them. I see them very rarely so I would love to be able to tell them face to face.

We had a picture (the lovely midwife gave us 5 free copies!) from the first scan, so I could take that with us to show them.

What are my chances of something going wrong between 9+1 and 12+6?

blackcatsdancing · 11/01/2012 19:45

lovemarmite not all areas do the NT scan. Mine have started fairly recently, they offer NT scan with blood test - but only if you want it done. My surgery still have old notes for pregnant women which say if you want it done you will have to be referred to a London hospital . I'd ask your MW. I'm 43 so although its an additional stress i do want it done. I will post how it goes- 2 weeks to go now! I have been told i will get high/low score only from local NHS. I find that odd so maybe i misunderstood MW. I've also booked in for private test (same thing, NT and bloods) with option to have cvs same day at fetal medicine. That will be a few days later- long enough for me to get any bad news from MW if it is coming- and to be honest i expect it will be due to my age so i'll need more info from another source before deciding on amnio or cvs. Personally i'd want the NT scan whatever my age.

blackcatsdancing · 11/01/2012 19:50

lovemarmite mw asked me if i wanted it- after checking i knew what the NT scan was. I said yes. I'll be 11+3 when i have NHS one done and 12+2 for private test.

PictureThis · 11/01/2012 20:01

Any woman over the age of 35 gets offered the NT scan where I am. We've decided if my combined risk comes back as high then we will pay to have an amnio at the fetal medicine centre in London.

Lovemarmite · 11/01/2012 20:04

Thanks blackcatsdancing for the info. Will certainly look into it more. Have just found a private clinic not far from me which seems to charge £120 but I see that they can cost a lot more elsewhere, however, I guess it's the one that gives the best service that is the better one. Hmm another scan at 12 weeks, it all gets rather serious in a few weeks then...
Hope yours go really well.
