Just did two pg tests and positive (although faint). Took 10 months ttc last time and as DD is almost one I've only had periods for a few months so this is a hugely pleasant surprise!

Anyone-else out there?

I'm still up, having my 1am snack...SIGH!

Thanks for the advice westcountrywife - the health and safety check would be done by the H&S department so they'd have to know. I think she was suggesting HR as we have a very strict attendance management policy so if I started taking days off, alarm bells would ring & it would put her in an awkward position. I'd also get more protection from the policy if they knew why I was sick before taking the leave rather than after (have been genning up on my discrimination policies - part of my job). It's not a risky environment, just an office job. It's basically a HUGE rumour mill, you can't tell anyone anything as it'll be round the houses twice before breakfast. It's ridiculous. They've not got much to occupy their minds apart from other people's business, unfortunately. I never know what's going on and certainly don't want to be topic of the week if I can possibly help it!

mrsmamma research today suggests you have the right to time off for scans & antenatal care regardless of how long you've been there. whether they agree or not is another matter, of course! Grrr.

Sorry about your bleed ballinnderrymum glad it's stopped.

Right, will stop ranting into the night!!

blackcatsdancing · 10/01/2012 10:09

welcome lynniegooner, hurrah i'm not massively older than everyone now! I'm also 43 and due 13th august!

hi to everyone else. gosh too much to catch up on. hideous day at work yesterday, nausea all day and so tired and slightly irritable with customers. 9+1 today. DP and i looked at babynames book last night. I think we both have to distract ourselves from endless anxiety about any problems this baby may have. Not long to go until NT scan/s when things will be revealed.

geekette · 10/01/2012 10:10

Angel, I find that walking helps a little bit. Problem for me is that wind wakes me up at night and the last thing I want to do is stay awake. Changing sleeping positions seems to help, especially when i bring my knees up.

I can't seem to get interested in books. I got one from the library which I never ready. I think it was "what to expect". I was so interested i never even looked at the cover...

Thanks for reminding me about the olympic tickets. I have two sets! And I can't actually remember what dates/sports I have reserved... Must be some time in July... Hmm,..

Finally, I am seriously beginning to worry about my weight gain. None of my clothes fit anymore. And the scales say I am still putting on a kilo a week? Shock is this normal??? I am only abut 7weeks!
I would have said my diet was healthy... My activities have been scaled right back down as I get tired and demotivated really easily. I think I should be worried... I would call the midwife but I don't know her number... our first official meeting is still two weeks away. I don't know what to do. Call my gp maybe?

blackcatsdancing · 10/01/2012 10:23

Hi geekette i think you'll find the GP is not very interested unless it is anything serious. I'm afraid cuts mean less appointments and more to do yourself. My booking in is at 10+5, i have had a prebooking but was literally asked which hospital ?(so i could be given correct forms) and a bunch of forms to fill in. She faxed off request for NT scan that day though. Sorry i think we all feel slightly adrift.
I weighed myself today. My weight fluctuates by 2-3 pounds anyway so difficult to tell how it is doing but reckon i've only put on 1 lb. The fat sensor on scales seemed wrong though so reckon i'm dehydated (which can throw it out) as it showed large increase in % body fat. However i feel massive, i feel i'm eating more, though its possible i'm not as i don't have great food habits anyway. Definitely less active as i'm bloody tired all the time! Trying to get a 30 minute walk in every day but don't always succeed.

PoppyS34 · 10/01/2012 12:09

hope you're feeling better today angel?

geekette I'm the other way - worried about lack of weight gain Confused. I've been tracking everything in my phone app (OvuView) and worked out I've put on 2.6lbs in total, so a bit more than I thought, but I signed up to Emma's Diary yesterday and that says 1-2lb per week Shock. Definitely got a 'rounded abdomen' though.

I started excercising again this week, encouraged by others on here (thank you!) so feel a bit better in myself, quite symptomless yesterday, so hopefully things are settling down a bit - officially 10 weeks today :o

mrsmamma · 10/01/2012 13:50

My trousers are definitely tighter but not sure if it's Xmas bulge! My stomach is bigger def! Just had my probation review and been offered position permanently next week to tell them I'm pg!!!

Lovemarmite · 10/01/2012 14:41

Congratulations mrsmamma great news on the job front!
On the trouser note - I am living in soft roll over top yoga trousers and hoping they will fit the whole time but I've noticed a bulge now... but it might be the chocolate! Have definitely put on some weight and my tummy is tender and so no jeans now.

Officially 9 weeks today and sickies have gone away apart from the first few hours. Not sure I feel pregnant when I have a few hours off the sickies and the twinges. Had my first MW appointment today, she was lovely but busy! Had blood tests, urine test and went through a big questionnaire and took lots home including some tea bags and stuff in a pregnancy pack.... cried when I saw a cardboard photo frame to put your scan in... how sad am I! Was told that the scans should be in a few weeks ... starting to feel real but I guess more real when I tell families as it will then be constant questions etc from them and so maybe I'll put off telling them until we've got less anxiety ourselves! Luckily we don't live that close... hmm maybe we're being selfish?

Vinolover · 10/01/2012 14:50

I'm more of a lurker on here so I really hope you don't mind me joining in!
I'm 9+3 today with DC3 and my tummy is much bigger and very round! I went back to work yesterday, first time in 3 weeks, and everybodies eyes went strait to my tummy and tight fitting clothes. There was no hiding it! I have not been anywhere near the scales since xmas because my chocolate intake really hasn't helped matters!

I have my first MW appt on thurs which im excited/scared and everything else in between. Having had 2 MC in the past I can't seem to get my head around the fact this baby is actually doing ok.

I love your name Marmite... My favourite snack at the mo is a marmite sandwich. :) Mmmm

Anyway, hello all :)

littlelamb1980 · 10/01/2012 15:21

I've been lurking on this thread a lot too so decided to be brave and post! I also had my first mw appointment today at 9+6 weeks and after reading Marmite's experience I feel really disappointed with mine. I got bloods & urine taken and the big questionnaire to fill out but all I got to take home was my maternity record that includes some information but not much and I just have to take it with me to all my appointments. I was also told there were no pregnancy book so just go online and print it off myself! Rubbish!
I was also hoping for a lovely, friendly midwife and although she wasn't unfriendly or horrible she wasn't particularly warm or reassuring when I told her I was worried about this pregnancy after suffering from a mmc in my first pregnancy in September at 9/10 weeks (baby died 5/6 weeks). She just said well in the past people weren't scanned so they wouldn't have known they had a mmc! Well that may be true but times have moved on and how is that going to make me feel better?!
She also went on about breastfeeding a lot, which at this stage in the pregnancy seems to be a bit premature and telling me that I should breastfeed for 6 months and not use a bottle or a dummy at all was a bit preachy, I thought. Don't get me wrong I really want to breastfeed but I know from others that its not always easy and I thought some people express bf sometimes?
Anyway for a first post this has turned into a bit of a rant but was just hoping for a better experience! Congratulations to all the pregnant ladies on this thread and fingers crossed for us all to have happy and healthy pregnancies!
My stats for the list are: Littlelamb1980 (31) DC1 08/08/12

blackcatsdancing · 10/01/2012 15:47

welcome vinolover and littlelamb. Sorry your MW seemed a bit off littlelamb. FWIW i breastfed my first successfully for well over a year. In 1992 (DC's birth year) mums were recommended to start weaning at 4 months- which i did. She has never had an issues whatsoever resulting from weaning at 4 months, in fact she rarely saw a doctor throughout childhood, has no allergies etc etc. I also expressed milk from time to time so my partner could feed her and after a few months she'd have formula when i went out as expressing milk was something I found hard and time consuming. It did not interfere with my breastfeeding at all! Some Mums go back to work early and they have to express , or turn to formula. Don't listen to her tosh. There are probably stats out there that say if you start giving formula you are more likely to weaken and BF will lessen/stop but it doesn't have to. Also depends on how determined you are to bf. The formula top ups mine got were very infrequent and only started after bf had been well established i.e after a few months. The expressed milk bottles were from time to time so i could go out with hubby occasionally and so he could enjoy giving the odd feed and they started earlier- maybe after a few weeks.

I would wean again at 4 months if i felt baby was ready for it.

Vinolover · 10/01/2012 15:53

I had a similar experience with my first pregnancy... The MW went on and on about breastfeeding and I had to do a little quiz as well. I was only 18 and everything was completely alien to me, I didn't even know what a MW was! So going on about breastfeeding at 10 weeks pregnant really threw me. She was very clinical and lacked warmth... Even though I'm a lot more wise to how it all works now, I would still like somebody friendly. MW number 2 was better but I was hardly seen... Cor, I went off on one there! Oops... Also, how sad you didn't get your pack! Every woman should get a bounty pack at their booking in appt.. Maybe ask at your next appt.

Vinolover · 10/01/2012 15:56

I completely agree with you blackcats with the weaning... Both my children were weaned at 4 months because they were ready for it. It's each to their own really. They are perfectly healthy children.

Lovemarmite · 10/01/2012 16:39

Hi vinolover - good to hear from you!

Sorry to hear about your MW littlelamb hmmm! I got the Bounty pack but was told that it was dated until December and they'd not got any new ones in yet, so maybe your clinic might have them in soon?
I also had a lot of talk about breastfeeding etc as I saw she had a checklist on the questionnaire to go through it - obviously a big push in the NHS. I got the impression though that I will not see her again until 16 weeks and for the scans I am going to the hospital and seeing others, including an obstetrician to go through what a c-section involves etc. I was dreading seeing the MW as I know I will start to worry around the scans etc and then the birth etc... I have to admit that I have terrible fears over delivery due to my own mum telling me about mine and it's upset me ever since - I told the MW this and she tried to reassure me about things but I felt myself get all sweaty just thinking of it! Hmm I am hoping that pregnancy will change this fear!

Gnomi · 10/01/2012 18:11

Hello Vinolover and LittleLamb - congratulations on joining us!

I've got a (second) scan on 25th January, when I'll be 12+6. I had a scan at 9+1 because my dates were a bit skew-iff, and I can't wait to the how much the baby has grown. I also really want the additional reassurance that everything is ok!

I've told HR at work, and she was great. I've been relieved from doing extra duties (risk of being pushed/shoved is much higher) and my line manager has had to do a risk assessment. They were brilliant, and it's been totally confidential.

My thinking was, if anything happened, they would need to know and I would have to tell them. This way, they are looking out for me and have been really understanding.

Totally with you girls on the marmite - it's the way forward!

Lovemarmite · 10/01/2012 18:20

Totally agree gnomi! marmite is the only thing that perks me up in the morning - stops all the sickies! Yeah to the mighty marmite!

Hmm dairylea now too... crickey, I am eating lots of rubbish - cheddars, chocolate and chips! recipe for lots of weight ...

littlelamb1980 · 10/01/2012 18:27

Thanks for the replies everyone! I knew that the NHS would be pushing breastfeeding and I do think they are right to, its just that I still feel its so early to be talking about it with the MW when at this stage I'm just hoping that the little baby is still in there!
Also MW never mentioned anything about a Bounty pack and I have never heard of it before as I am one of the first of my friends to be pregnant. Seems like I have a lot to learn, thank god for websites like this or I would be even more clueless!
Marmite I know what you mean about Mum's being a little bit too enthusiastic telling us about our birth stories. My Mum's is the opposite of yours though as it was a very quick labour of 2hours with just gas and air, which she is very proud of until I remind her that I was 6 weeks premature and only weighed 5lbs. It would have been a very different story if I was full term and weighed 10lbs!! Hopefully the MW will ease your fears a little although I wouldn't believe anyone who said they weren't scared about giving birth for the first time as you just don't know what to expect!

NathanDetroit · 10/01/2012 19:15

hi unlurkers!
I have my first mw appt next week so will look forward to this bfeeding talk. Like you say littlelamb my main concern is that everything is going right in there...breastfeeding is down the other side of the mountain and we're still at base camp 1!

angel I had the horrible wind pain today, during a music lesson of all things. I play a woodwind instrument so you have to use your tummy muscles a lot. My teacher was getting me to do this and that and it was getting worse and I had to ask to stop because I was in pain. I think I freaked her out but I didn't tell her I'm pg as that would freak her out even more. My stomach seems HUGE today though so maybe she guessed??!!

re birth stories, mine own was pretty horrible, but I've been reading LOADS of birth stories over the last couple of years (I believe in preparation!) and it definitely helps to see how it's gone for other women, what helps make it "easier" what doesn't and stuff.

Vinolover · 10/01/2012 19:46

Marmite I am constantly eating rubbish. I start off healthy and lunch has been good but all the bits in between, certainly not! A whole bag of mini eggs have been consumed today!! I have now banned myself from shops and supermarkets (Thank God for online grocery shopping).

As for birth stories, everyone is different and will birth their babies differently. I really would try not to worry about it at the moment. Like a lot of things, you only really hear about the horror stories.

Nathan Im getting awful wind pains too :( It takes your breath away doesn't it!

Peasandyoghurt · 10/01/2012 19:51

Hi ladies. Never heard of bounty packs either. I've just posted a long rant about my rubbish midwife on the main pregnancy bit (not really sure how to use mumsnet properly yet - I've been on this August thread before, but then keep losing it - is there a short cut for getting straight to it, or do you have to search through all the pages to find where it's disappeared to - if that makes sense?) Bit sad about my midwife - managed to avoid the breastfeeding lecture, but that's only because every time I go to her she sends me packing without having given me a single bit of information about anything at all. Moan!

NathanDetroit · 10/01/2012 20:19

peas at the top if you hover over "talk" you get a "threads" bit with a "I'm on" bit & if you click that the ones you've commented on come up. Seems to work for me so far!

I've been ok so far this evening but just had a rather painful twinge. Feel like I need to have a massive poo (yay, the constipation has taken over the runs!) and I'll feel better. Sorry for TMI, but am SO looking forward to feeling "normal" again today!

Angel786 · 10/01/2012 21:21

poppy much better today, thanks. I think it must have been wind! Nathan ouch, hope it eases up. My tummy is now pretty obviously pg but trying to wear loose fitting dresses but sure people will guess soon. Was q petite before so now look like I have a giant grapefruit stuck to my lower abdomen.

Hi vino and little lamb! I also got a bit miffed with midwife as she asked how I bf dd and I said I bf up till 8 months cue almost squeals of delight sharply deflated when I said yes I mixed fed from 3 mths! And lime vino I weaned dd at 4 mths as she was v interested in food...

peas your midwife/ hospital should give you the bounty pack. The pack itself gives a voucher to collect a pack of freebies from boots / sainsburys. Not sure what they have now but a year ago it included a free pampers nappy, bottle of appetiser and samples of fairy non bio etc.

MrsLister · 10/01/2012 21:35

Hi ladies. I have a question - I had my appointment with the dr last week and she gave me forms so I could call and book my 12 week scan in (which I did) and ones for blood tests which I need to have done at the hospital.

Can I not just wait for my booking in appointment to do that? Does the midwife take blood at this appointment? Or do I need to have had blood tests before my booking in appointment?

Thanks in advance

Lovemarmite · 10/01/2012 21:46

Hi MrsLister I had my first MW appt today and had urine and blood tests taken but I guess it might be done differently in different areas?

Perhaps you could call the MW and ask her? I got the number for the MW from my GP's receptionists and was told to call as I'd not heard anything until last week. The MW appointment was put in very quickly as I got the impression she worked all weekend to catch up on her workload. I live in a smallish town and we have a health centre that the MW work out of, however, the smaller town down the road, the people have to come to ours, not sure if it has any bearing but maybe it's the set up of the area which determines where things are done?
Hope it all sorts soon!

Alizzle · 10/01/2012 21:49

Hello ladies, just thought I'd wade in. I'm 9+6 today with #1.

peasandyoghurt my midwife was really nice about the whole breast feeding, didn't even ask or push the DVD on me just asked if I wanted it. I had no problems getting a bounty pack or the dep of health pregnancy book. Maybe I'm lucky? I seem to have one that's really on the ball.
