accidentally took an ibruprofen
lost my temper with partner x 362 & counting
goat cheese tart incident
work stress
sleeping in wrong position
shouting rude words in road rage - daily
failing to wash bagged salad
occasional cheeky glass of wine
not playing classical music to bump
insomnia

According to research my child will be psychologically, emotionally and physically damaged in some way....the stress of the guilt should be added to the list ("~)

Heh just read that back and realised how snooty that sounded. Apologies!

PlinkertyPlonk · 22/11/2011 18:43

Great thread!

My sins...

  • Raw eggs. Too many times to count. And not immunised 'red lion' stamped ones; proper, fresh, totally free-range from the neighbour's farm, still covered in chicken poo.
  • Ignoring all use-by dates in the fridge and relying on the sniff test instead.
  • Rare meat. There is no other way to eat it.
  • Roquefort. It was only a crumb, but sooooo delicious
  • Sleeping on back and RHS
  • Cleaning up cat shit the kids had trodden into the house
  • Lugging ludicrously large pumpkin down the length of the village
  • Flying lots during 1st trimester
  • Opting out of long haul business trips due to DVT risk. Bang goes the career. On the plus side, it coincides with the new travel policy restricting us to cattle class.
  • Telling DSD I wasn't pregnant when she asked. Not my proudest moment. It was complicated. But all ok now.

Please forgive me.

loveinacoldclimate - smoked salmon is fine, according to the nhs the smoking removes any nasties! There is another guilt trip joke in there somewhere!

also have discovered that cooking with wine is a great way to sneakily have a bit without feeling guilty, not to be honest that I feel guilty as I drink my allowance every week - oops did I say that out loud?

DH is taking me to my fave restaurant this weekend and I fully intend to have their legendary beef carpaccio (the lemon kills everything, at least that is what i'll be telling dh!)

Torila · 24/11/2011 11:20

@sausagesmuggler - I would have sent it back if the yolks were pretty much solid! This isn't eggs benedict I would have screamed! (My latest craving is yummy thick, orange, sticky yolk - mmmmm - if baby wants it then she shall have it.)

Crap there is another boob, folks I don't know if bean is a she, I am just hoping she is - oh frick there i go again!

LoveInAColdClimate · 25/11/2011 07:17

Thanks, Torila - I will continue to munch my way through endless packets of smoked salmon guilt free! Hurrah!

surprisearrival · 29/11/2011 20:55

I ate all the "bad" cheeses .. shellfish .. rare meat .. lots of tuna
I drank lots of wine, cocktails .. most days
I worked 60 + hours a week, on my feet all the time, carrying things that weighed more than I do.
I wore ridiculous high heels, and in the last couple of months I twice wore fancy dress which required a very tightlly laced steel boned corset.

BUT I didnt know I had a baby on board; fortunately she's perfectly healthy and very advnaced for her age so I try not to feel too bad :-s

goodnightmoon · 30/11/2011 09:08

wanted a (2nd) boy, having a girl, and tell people the truth when they stupidly ask!
eat runny eggs regularly
lick cookie/cake spoons
drink 2-3 glasses/week
latte, tea and diet coke every single day
sushi 1-2x/week
smoked salmon/chorizo/cured meats/deli meats
happy to have freshly made mayo/aioli in restaurants
would never consider washing bagged salad

seriously doubt I'll breastfeed more than a couple months (went to 18 months with DS)
plan to be back at work within 6 months (took a year with DS)

but honestly I don't feel any guilt - nor do i mean to boast about how i don't give a f* about all the rules. I am simply weighing up risks and trusting my judgement. the guilt will kill you if you let it in.

WeeLors · 30/11/2011 13:04

When I got pregnant with DS we were travelling through South America and were there for my whole 1st trimester. List of things I did then;

Weeks 1-5 (before I knew I was preggers)
Drank a lot of cocktails containing casacha (sp?) - 50%alc
Went trekking across the Brazillian Pantanal - involved horse riding, piranha fishing and being in general close proximity to many wild animals with no hospital for miles.
Let a Bolivian monkey lick my hand for a good few minutes (it was cute) and then ate a bag of crisps with said hand 20mins later before realising I hadn't had a chance to wash them yet. (I had diarrhoea for a few days afterwards - go figure).
Ate all manner of questionable food

Weeks 6-12 (in Bolivia and Peru)
See the above about dodgy food
Ate a lot of junk in place of actual meals if food was too questionable
Spent a lot of time at very high altitudes (Potosi/La Paz), not good for pregnant ladies cos of low oxygen levels
Spent the day walking round Machu Picchu (super high altitude again)
Did a lot of flying

By the time I got back to the UK I was a total sugar addict so pretty much had the worst diet I've ever had for the rest of my pregnancy (4 bars of chocolate anyone? Smile)
Also drank the odd glass of wine without guilt,
Kept forgetting couldn't be arsed to take pregnancy vits
Ate ham, prawns, runny eggs and rare steaks
Did feck all to work on my pelvic floor
Wanted to kill DM on a daily basis for her over-enthusiatic constant baby talk (don't you just get sooo sick of talking about being pregnant all the time) but realise now she was just really excited about getting a new GC.
Chugged Gaviscon like it was water

Totally licked the cake mix bowl (do not mess with a pregnant woman and cake mix)

There's probably more...

ttc#2 just now and in the 2ww - sitting here eating pate and oatcakes for lunch. Ooops!! (although will def knock pate on the head if I get a BFP - too much vit A worries me too much)

bonbonpixie · 28/12/2011 23:16

Just found this thread and actually almost cried with relief! Pregnancy guilt is the worst, and as I have found google in this case is NOT the answer!
I have a few friends who gave birth last year who were apparently the most prefect pregnant people ever with not a single slip up between them so infuriating!!
Think I've done one of everything here plus trek to Everest Base Camp in Tibet at around 6 weeks pregnant, before I knew.
Thank you MN for making me feel a million times better!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 29/12/2011 19:47

The guilt is immense, I often wonder should I have had eaten that will my DS be okay. Wish I had known that smoked samon was okay as it is yummy on a bagel with soft cheese and well cooked scrambled eggs.

Oh well, I will have to have it soon, perhaps everyday for the next 4 months. xx

xmasmummytobe · 29/12/2011 20:18

Love this thread! I think I did pretty well for the first 16 weeks thanks to morning sickness, after then....

Eaten goats cheese, brie, camembert (I thought if it was pasteurised it was ok! Apparently not Sad)
Had at least one cup of coffee a day
Waaaay too much chocolate and crap (mainly the last 10 weeks, Mars bar craving Blush)
Eaten my five a day for approx 7 weeks out of the so far 41 weeks of pregnancy
Regularly forgotten my pregnancy vitamins between 20 - 34 weeks
Gave up on my pregnancy journal at about 20 weeks
Eaten home made Carbonara made with raw eggs, so I guess only partially cooked
Own cats, clean out cat litter regularly (no one else would do it for me)
Lifted heavy things, taken apart and moved furniture
Drank wine on many occasions although I seriously doubt I ever went over the recommended limits
Eaten medium/rare steaks a couple of times

There are probably a lot more. I don't feel too guilty, I'm human! Starting to panic though now that he'll be out soon that I've done lasting damage Confused

xmasmummytobe · 29/12/2011 20:20

Oh and I stopped on a busy dual carriageway to try and usher a dog out of the road. No one else was stopping and it was going to cause an accident. DP was not impressed as I was 15 weeks pregnant at the time Blush

blackcatsdancing · 30/12/2011 16:05

this thread is great.
I'm only 7+4 and already feel guilty for having small sips of wine after knowing i was preggers (stopped after GP told me no alcohol before 12 weeks was advisable). Felt like i'd committed heinous crime. Had sip of champagne on Christmas day (maybe 3 teaspoons worth) and nothing since.

ate parma ham and salami before i knew it was not advisable (due to toxoplasmosis)

ate very rare venison over Christmas, cried later that night when i Googled it and have begged GP for blood test, which will be done after 23 days have elapsed.(again toxoplasmosis risk)

I didn't know lion marked British eggs were safe - that's very good to know!

no doubt this will be added to but after the venison incident, doubt i'll eat anything on banned list again.

blackcatsdancing · 30/12/2011 16:07

and general moodiness , especially towards DP .

Tito835 · 09/06/2019 15:51

Can we revive this thread?

bobble53 · 09/06/2019 16:25

@flippingstupidnickname did your midwife have anything to say about missing your GTT? I don’t want to go but scared of being told off! Only being sent because my dad has developed diabetes.

bobble53 · 09/06/2019 16:25

Sorry realised this is an old threat

bobble53 · 09/06/2019 16:25

Thread! *

Tito835 · 09/06/2019 16:26

Here goes...

Very little exercise except for chasing after my toddler on a daily basis.
Too much processed food and not enough fresh fruit and veg.
Too much sugar.
Also keep waking up on my back, tangled in nursing pillow.
Painting with paint that turned out to be solvent based before finding out it wasn't advised (had inhaled quite a bit before then and got dizzy).
Super anxious and worrying all the time mainly due to the point above.

Really hope little one will be alright!

Tito835 · 09/06/2019 16:30

Yes - This is a very old thread that I came across and am hoping to bring back to life! Mainly because I am feeling a lot of guilt and this thread was making me feel a lot better! Xx

cassie898 · 09/06/2019 20:13

Too much junk food
Not enough exercise
Lots of road rage
Way too much work stress

MerryDeath · 09/06/2019 20:47

I'm eating all sorts of shit because i feel sick. i'd eat anything if i thought it was going to satisfy this horrible nausea. today i had a pot noodle, unsurprisingly it made me feel disgusting.

MerryDeath · 09/06/2019 20:48

also forget to take the vitamin thing nearly every day. probably the worst I'm taking anti depressants and won't/can't stop Sad

MerryDeath · 09/06/2019 20:50

ALSO oh i've started now... i am not doing any pelvic floor exercises, also i feel VERY guilty about my poor little two year old who is about to find himself with a sibling he did not ask for. hopefully he'll come around.

cassie898 · 09/06/2019 21:01

Haven't done any pelvic floor exercises either and I have had pot noodles too! And some diet cokes!
