accidentally took an ibruprofen
lost my temper with partner x 362 & counting
goat cheese tart incident
work stress
sleeping in wrong position
shouting rude words in road rage - daily
failing to wash bagged salad
occasional cheeky glass of wine
not playing classical music to bump
insomnia

According to research my child will be psychologically, emotionally and physically damaged in some way....the stress of the guilt should be added to the list ("~)

Also I'm pretty sure mozzarella cheese is fine.

I wonder if women in France are advised not to have pate/soft cheeses & if not if the stats bear out a large increase in listeria infections?

Sugar80 · 17/11/2011 12:09

These don't seem that bad.... here's mine (and I'm only on my first baby... I'm going to be a terrible mother!)

Bit too much caffeine
Drinking my 2 unit wine quota every week after 1st trimester
Goats cheese.. and brie... both in panini's so that's cooked, sort of, isn't it?
Didn't know you had to wash ready washed salad until ready the guilt lists above!
Horse riding several times a week
I went in a hot tub yesterday
I also ate venison that was pink in the middle... mmm...
Runny eggs for breakfast
Lifting water buckets

I'll think of some more soon...

Mumtolittlemonkey · 17/11/2011 12:10

Loving this thread!

I ate blue cheese - but only because my father in law made me a random toastie for lunch and he's so sweet I didn't have the heart to tell him..It was hot though..
Took ibuprofen deliberately last week as I was in agony with tooth ache!
Regularly forget to take my vitamins
Drank a mini glass of wine at a work function
Tell my lovely DS that I can't carry him up the stairs because the baby is hurting mummy's back.....

I feel really bad seeing it all written down..

thehogopogo · 17/11/2011 12:16

hey! this thread is looking like my daily schedule, and its only baby no.1!...poor baby no.3...
AND i found the first stretchmarks on my boobs yesterday, so now feel guilty that i havent been moisturising TWICE a day (TWICE a day??!!-who does that??)

NinkyNonker · 17/11/2011 12:20

Too much caffeine.
Prawn cocktail every day for a week.
Half a cider the other day.
Way too hormonal.
Didn't wash salad.
Parma ham.

Bunsouttheoven · 17/11/2011 12:20

Oh apparently French women are told not to eat soft cheese etcBlush

Buggar, that was my anti guilt theory

sillymillyb · 17/11/2011 12:22

Twice a day??? Im lucky if I manage to moisturise twice a week..... bumholes, theres another one for my list! (this is baby number 1 for me toohogopogo 9 months is just a really really long time to sustain good intentions!)

thehogopogo · 17/11/2011 12:38

HAHA sillymilly, for a moment i thought 'bumholes' were on your list!!! i thought, 'Oh shucks, i must've missed that leaflet..must ask midwife at next appointment..'

sospanfach · 17/11/2011 12:41

see. this is how revoltingly selfish I am. I always remember to moisturise. I just forget when things don't impact on me directly...

LAF77 · 17/11/2011 12:43

Ate way too much cupcake batter last night(cupcakes were rubbish anyway because I forgot to add flour, tried to recover the situation before they went into the oven, but it didn't workmaybe it was baby brain, and felt like I'll be a failure when I have to make cakes for baby when he is born)
Ate too much sugar in general over the last week
Have eaten fried egg yolks that are still runny
Eaten smoked salmon that wasn't cooked
Sure that I had more than 2 units last week on holiday

Ellypoo · 17/11/2011 12:48

Far too much caffeine - got to drink something if I can't drink as much wine & lager!!!
Too much chocolate, cake & other junk - have developed a major sweet tooth!!
Red red wine - I'm sure more than the miniscule 'allowance' of 2 units/week, every week since I was 16 wks.
Runny eggs - sure I read somewhere that if they were 'lion stamped' then that was fine, was this just wishful thinking???
Not played classical music to bump / read to bump / eaten loads of sesame seeds or other omega 3 foods for brain development etc.
Oh, and have massive stress all the way through - v stressful job; just bought a house which we are renovating so no money at all to save up to cover time off work etc etc
Oh well - will just have to learn to cope with the guilt!!

LoveInAColdClimate · 17/11/2011 12:48

I didn't even know you were meant to wash bagged salad. Or eat prawn cocktails. I also though mozeralla was fine?

Is there something wrong with me? Only on baby #1 and don't feel guilty over:

Weekly glass of wine since end of 1st trimester
Quite often going over caffeine levels
Gardening and sometimes forgetting gloves
Lifting heavy things
Runny eggs (although not if organic or home laid)
Frequent pizza

Am I going to be a negligent mother?

sospanfach · 17/11/2011 12:50

I did not think mozzarella was banned, in my first trimester I ate a WHOLE BALL OF IT in one go. Confused

LoveInAColdClimate · 17/11/2011 12:52

I have eaten tonnes of mozzarella, I am not going to Google in case it makes me worry Grin.

sospanfach · 17/11/2011 12:54

that's the right attitude LoveInAColdClimate Grin

witherhills · 17/11/2011 12:58

I'm not pregnant, but some of the stuff on here has surprised me.
Mozzarella?
When I was pregnant, I creosoted all the fences in the garden, painted all the rooms
I got on ladders and drilled holes for all the curtains
I removed all the storage stuff from spare room for carpeters
I lifted trees and planted them in the garden
I ate prawns, mussels, every type of cheese, eggs whichever way I liked, steak occasionally

I didn't drink alcohol or caffeine(only because I didn't fancy it) and I didn't take anything other than paracetemol.
And I didn't eat pate, because I have had food poisoning from it before

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 17/11/2011 13:04

Eating mozzeralla (I thought it was ok?)
A mini glass of wine (it was gross, but I drank it anyway, which makes it much much worse)
Sleeping on my stomach, squashing my bump
Eating cake mix, more than went in the oven
Giving all the gory details on everything to the girls in the office when they asked, completely ignoring the troubled face of the only male who sat next to me
Sex with bleeding (I didn't tell anyone)

I now have a perfectly healthy 11 week old boy (that I kept calling 'she') and none of the above seem to have affected him.

Mikocat · 17/11/2011 13:13

Oh my god! I'm so happy that all the things I feel guilty about have already been mentioned.

My main one is too much caffeine, a cup maybe a cup and a half in the morning and a mug in the afternoon.

The odd alcoholic drink, I even had TWO drinks last Saturday. Bad bad bad.

I licked the bowl after making cake and then realised what I was doing and let the cat lick bowl instead

I cleaned the cat's dirty bottom.

I find sleeping on my left hand side a total drag and normally wake up on my back with my legs tangled in the dream genii.

Eating peanuts, I'm pretty sure you are allowed to now, but not sure you can gorge yourself on monkey nuts.

My child will hate me.

LoveInAColdClimate · 17/11/2011 13:21

I now feel guilty for not feeling guilty about my pregnancy crimes Confused.

Karmanna · 17/11/2011 13:23

Nice thread!! I'm glad it's not just me being naughty:

Had at least 5-6 big nights out before realised I was pg (ttc was getting to me!)
Licked cake bowl on numerous occasions
Used nose spray and the odd antihistamine (have severe dust allergy and normally take prescribed steroid spray)
Made DH do all the cleaning/dusting/hoovering due to said allergy and no medicine alllowed
Stood next to friends when they're smoking and inhaled a bit too much

Oh god, I'm a terrible person. Although no caffeine or soft cheese at all (as I don't like it), does that balance it out a bit? Hopeful

GwendolineMaryLacey · 17/11/2011 13:26
  • I have lived on shite and relied on my pregnacare tablets for the good stuff Blush
  • I have not limited my caffeine intake and drink far too much tea.
  • I am about to (hopefully) cure myself of thrush by using a sneakily bought Canesten kit, about which I lied to the pharmacist. I am pretty sure it's thrush and I am not waving my flange around for all to see just yet, I'm saving it for the delivery suite!
Karmanna · 17/11/2011 13:29

Oh, and I've dyed my hair at least 4 times...

jandanaligazan · 17/11/2011 13:29

What about feeling guilty for being pregnant at all.

I know I did, particularly with friends who were struggling with infertility.

Or like these women in Kenya I was just reading about;

pregnancyandchildbirtharoundtheworld.blogspot.com/2011/10/pregnancy-not-announcing-good-news.html

Skillbo · 17/11/2011 13:37

Lots on here not to feel guilty about..

My big one this time round is complete - almost COMPLETE - lack of exercise... with DD was at the pool 3/4 times a week from about 9 weeks through to 36 weeks. This time, I consider the walk up the corridor to the coffee and vending machine my exercise and get absolutely exhausted walking up a slight incline Blush..

And it might be 'banned', it might not, but my god, I CAN'T STOP EATING!

PDog · 17/11/2011 13:37

Here is my confession:

I have eaten runny eggs, even ones that weren't lion stamped
I have eaten medium cooked steak
I have eaten brie (accidently)
I sleep on my back or right side
I eat too much sugar - cake, chocolate etc
I am addicted to crisps and therefore eat too much salt
I do not eat enough fruit and veg
I have had the occasional glass of wine
I have done no exercise whatsoever and can't walk up the stairs without getting out of breath
I have licked the cake bowl on numerous occasions
Work stress
