accidentally took an ibruprofen
lost my temper with partner x 362 & counting
goat cheese tart incident
work stress
sleeping in wrong position
shouting rude words in road rage - daily
failing to wash bagged salad
occasional cheeky glass of wine
not playing classical music to bump
insomnia

According to research my child will be psychologically, emotionally and physically damaged in some way....the stress of the guilt should be added to the list ("~)

Have the egg Wine

PamBeesly · 17/11/2011 17:17

Not feeling in the least guilty to give this thread some balance! I haven't had anything on the banned list though, except someone mentioned mozarella? I've been eating that like a hound.
I also sometimes wake up on my back. I can't help that so pointless feeling guilty. Women are made to feel guilty way too much. We're goddesses for being pregnant at all so lets give ourselves a break!

Bearcrumble · 17/11/2011 17:17

There were big signs saying pregnant ladies shouldn't touch the sheep and goats because they carry some disease that can cause miscarriage. Not because I thought the goat would give me the evil eye or anything.

Also felt guilty for wanking too much and worried it might do 'something' to the baby.

PamBeesly · 17/11/2011 17:19

bearcrumble I live rurally enough and there was a big note in my maternity booklet not to touch lambing ewes or their placentas. I have never even seen a lambing ewe but maybe there is a connection.

PamBeesly · 17/11/2011 17:20

bearcrumble a friend of mine told me she masturbated her way into labour to chill herself out, said it really got things going Grin

Wrigglebum · 17/11/2011 17:50

Smoked salmon is fine, as is shop bought sushi according to the NHS website- freezing or smoking kills the parasites that may be harmful and by law all commercially made sushi must be made with previously frozen fish. Yippee! I also just learnt from there stilt

VikingLady · 17/11/2011 17:51

Love this thread...

Don't feel at all guilty for completely ignoring the advice that the moron junior midwife gave me (the bits that make no sense, like honey, rare steak, anything with any flavour), but my FIL was a paediatrician. Feel so bad about:

  1. Living by a main road in 1st trimester (pollution lowers oxygen in blood, bad for baby)
  2. Moving house causing stress that will turn the baby into a basket case with attachment issues (thank you, Horizon!)
  3. eating bacon and smoked salmon and sausages (nitrogen can cause birth defects, apparently - just vague enough to panic me!)
  4. Being broke (see number 2 - stress)

Jeez. Glad i don't feel too bad about the Wine Wink

Wrigglebum · 17/11/2011 17:55

Damn fat fingers!!

... Stilton is now considered safe too!!

I have had plenty of runny eggs but all lion marked.
Had a really rare steak just before finding out I was pregnant.
Living on Dr Pepper.
Reduced veg intake as the smell now turns my stomach.

sillymillyb · 17/11/2011 18:38

haha, pissing myself at all the goat guilt.

I got told off this evening by my mum for wiping my DN's bum/back / legs after the poor thing had diarrhoea.... Not entirely sure what she thinks will happen to my unborn child in this situation, or indeed what poor shitcovered nephew was meant to do otherwise, but thought I'd add it to the guiltfest anyway!

whoopdewhoop · 17/11/2011 18:39

I have smoked 4 cigarettes. And eaten a lot of ham. And had some wine. I only feel bad about the cigarettes.

LuckyRocketshipUnderpants · 17/11/2011 19:03

Oooh, may I play?

  • Too much caffeine, including fizzy drinks (the horror)
  • Too much junk food generally (chocolate, crisps, crap)
  • Too many wee cheeky sips of DH's beer plus one per week of my own
  • An excess of deli meat (in particular ham-but oh how I crave it)
  • Not whipping my pelvic floor into shape. Or even attempting to. At all.
  • Slightly too hot bath the other day.
  • Picking up DD from time to time even though she is 4 and weighs too much
  • Generally exuding grumpiness and resentment rather than skipping through roses tra la la glow.
EsmeWeatherwax · 17/11/2011 19:33

Far too much caffeine, well, from the end of month 4 anyway, as I couldn't stand coffee or tea before that. Although thinking about it, have pretty much craved coca cola from conception. Full fat too, so probably too much sugar as well.
Rare steak. I've had a fair old few. But then figure I will have immunity from toxoplasmosis (sp?) as I have kept cats for years. It's a crime to eat steak well done anyway, like eating shoe leather!
God the worst...Pate. Lots of it. I love it.
Can't really say I feel too guilty about all this mind you! Again, 3rd baby syndrome...

HugosGoatee · 17/11/2011 19:38

I like this thread! Particularly the goat-bothering and the wanking.

My sins:

  • almost daily Parma ham
  • weekly glass of wine or two
  • accidentally drinking a load of Advocaat at 32 weeks thinking it was a lovely mousse dessert
  • sleeping on right, back, any shape I can really
  • not taking pre-natal vitamins and not really eating very healthily either
  • not crawling around or doing anything to try to get baby to turn as I secretly want a C-section and can have one if he remains breech
  • at 35 weeks, not attended any antenatal classes and have no idea what to do with a newborn, e.g nappies, how to breastfeed etc
  • I have, however set up the nursery despite it being apparently bad luck Hmm
Grin
HugosGoatee · 17/11/2011 19:40

Am also kind of ignoring guidelines about tuna... it's cheap and it's protein. Ditto peanut butter.

georgethecat · 17/11/2011 19:46

OMG, your responses have totally cheered me up! The guilt was weighing me down, I had to release it in a confessional thread :) (lapsed catholic!).

Good to know I'm not the only one dicing with danger with banned substances such as ever-so-slightly runny egg.

Big shout out to the goat fanciers and the wankers (seperate themes obviously). My bump got a volcano giggle for those :)

Heres to being human girlies ;)

OP posts:
billgrangersrisotto · 17/11/2011 19:54

Excuse the shouting but RUNNY EGG IS FINE IF IT IS LION MARKED!!!!

Also - rare steak is fine. Rare meat is only not okay if it is not in one piece (ie. Mince; so a burger or steak tartare cooked rare is not okay).

Prawns and seafood - fine as long as cooked properly.

Make your own mind up about alcohol, but I certainly wouldn't be getting in a pickle about the odd glass of wine.

blueskydrinking · 17/11/2011 19:59

OK, firstly a vague guilt that I didn't even realise I was supposed to feel guilty about all kinds of things on here (cigarettes and goat-bothering, sure - but cake? Fizzy drinks? Ham? Occasional glass of wine? Wanking? )

However, at work today, I did get into a bit of a state about how long I had to queue for my lunch, and what a crappy portion I was given in return. So when I got to my seat and my colleague had a proper, grown up portion of meat I so nearly reached some sort of emotional meltdown that he felt obliged to give me half of his. And I took it. Gladly. I do feel a little bit stupid guilty about that.

darthwitless · 17/11/2011 21:03

all of the above and huge quantities of crisps. mainly those bright orange cheesy ones with no discernible natural ingredient. third child syndrome. and too brain dead to calculate weeks pregnant in last 8.4 years. me? guilty?? well, a bit. but it doesn`t seem to stop me.

33goingon64 · 17/11/2011 21:57

I am sure pg women can eat mozzarella. I checked online. I ate tons of the stuff as I couldn't have Brie or anything else exciting.

fishandlilacs · 17/11/2011 22:04

I have done all of the above and then some.

I don't feel guilty in the least.

hairylights · 17/11/2011 22:27

Ate paturised Brie twice only to find it's not ok.
Major meltdown tonight as it looks like car is buggered.
Been hugely snappy at work

hairylights · 17/11/2011 22:30

Oh and I threw a silent strop because someone bought me a bacon roll instead of a sandwich.

theidsalright · 17/11/2011 22:30

my biggest sin is the lack of pelvic floor exercising.

My physio said, I kid you not, to do the short ones AND the long ones EVERY HOUR THROUGH THE DAY. Shock Shock Shock

CheerfulYank · 17/11/2011 22:34

What's this business about sleeping in different positions? Hmm They never told us that in the US...

theidsalright · 17/11/2011 22:38

SOS=sleep on your side
To do with blood flow to the baby. I always wake up when I'm on my back, with numb arms. Freaks me out every time. The science bit says there is possibly a link with still births (but it's a tenuous link so far).
