accidentally took an ibruprofen
lost my temper with partner x 362 & counting
goat cheese tart incident
work stress
sleeping in wrong position
shouting rude words in road rage - daily
failing to wash bagged salad
occasional cheeky glass of wine
not playing classical music to bump
insomnia

According to research my child will be psychologically, emotionally and physically damaged in some way....the stress of the guilt should be added to the list ("~)

didn't know mozzarella was banned either; ate parma ham while pg with DS1 and then totally freaked out afterwards. nothing wrong with the baby in the end though.

oltob · 17/11/2011 14:12

Guilty over not being as excited/scared stiff as with DC1. It's a double edged sword, when relaxed and deciding second time round I don't need to worry so much, feel guilt at not stressing as much. Mad as a box of frogs.

Ditto for lack of exercise, alcohol, smoked salmon, goats cheese, too too many diet cokes, tea, choclick (more caffeine), idly wondering if that will give me a lower birthweight baby and possibly an easier labour. Shame - on - me

Torila · 17/11/2011 14:22

Drinking my allowance of alcohol - and planning my week around said allowance, oh and going slightly over allowance last week (it was my birthday and it was lovely champagne!)
Eating all sorts of "naughty" cheese
Runny eggs and homemade mayo, not to mention cake mix
Shellfish - to be fair though I have avoided oysters! (one brownie point for me!)
Had no idea I wasn't supposed to sleep on my back until reading this so add that to my list
Swearing
Preying for a girl
Always arguing with midwife - she isn't very nice if i'm honest!
Never wash veg
Playing rock music to bump
telling bump daddy is a w*er when he has a glass of wine with dinner

Oh god help me!!! Oh crap and more importantly help my bump!!

Torila · 17/11/2011 14:23

oh bugger..... and very rare steak

thegingerone · 17/11/2011 14:36

Ha, Gwendoline! I've used Canestan and I am a pharmacist!!!

Bearcrumble · 17/11/2011 14:40

I'm sure rare steak is fine as long as it's well sealed on the outside - I've had it twice.

I have no compunction about eating soft eggs - as long as they are lion marked the chickens have been vaccinated against salmonella.

I really miss soft cheese and blue cheese but you CAN eat them if they've been cooked so goat's cheese tart is no problem, and you could theortically eat a whole baked Camembert with no cause for concern. I plan to do this soon (with crudites to dip in it so as to make it healthy, yes that will work).

I've felt guilty about waking up on my back, going to a children's farm with DS and standing near a goat (I know), shouting and screaming blue murder at DH now and again, eating too much chocolate and using my home doppler every day.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 17/11/2011 14:40

Oh God....

Thank you, that fills me with confidence. I shall go and...er...insert it now!

TMI :o

somewherewest · 17/11/2011 14:40

If I remember correctly the NHS guidelines say that rare steak / lamb is fine provided its good quality and cooked on the outside. Not that I knew that when I tucked into a reindeer steak so rare it could have stood up and walked off the plate while on holiday in Finland. Bad me (it was delicious)...

Bearcrumble · 17/11/2011 14:42

And mozarella is fine to eat uncooked.

thegingerone · 17/11/2011 14:45

Gwendoline.I've only used the cream myself, but I'd use your finger instead of the applicator if I'm not being too "pharmacist" about it!! Wink

Being "the pharmacist" means I regularly know how exactly I need to lie to get hold of things like eye drops for my almost two year old's conjunctivitis!! (He's five by now but you prob get my point!!)

claricestar · 17/11/2011 14:49

hmmm another...I lied to the midwife for a quiet life....I swear she was just asking me loads of questions because she had a student with her!

claricestar · 17/11/2011 14:52

and have peanut butter on a daily basis

AngryGnome · 17/11/2011 15:20

DS is now a year old, and seems so far to be suffering no ill effects from my awful pregnancy vices

drinking in first 2 months (had no idea I was pregnant)
didn't take folic acid (was in DEEP denial about pregnancy for some time)
didn't take vitamins (I hate swallowing tablets anyway, pregnacare are HUUUGE, I seriously wondered which end they were supposed to go in)
Drank wine once evil morning sickness had passed
Ate own bodyweight in jacket potatoes and chocolate
Did no exercise (offers up SPD as excuse. Inability to walk at all from 7 months not unconnected to consumption of own bodyweight in chocolate).
Repeatedly referring to unborn child as the parasite Blush

I am really CRAP at being pregnant.

sospanfach · 17/11/2011 15:34

bearcrumble - STANDING NEAR A GOAT? a heinous crime Angry

Yummymummyyobe1 · 17/11/2011 15:38

Eating far too many crisps (Bad mummy, baby will end up fat)
Forgetting to eat until I feel faint (bad mummy, baby will be hungry)
Too much cleaning and lifting due to the move (bad mummy chemicals might give my baby three heads and a tail)

Not being able to think straight (bad employee and partner as things that should get actioned are forgotten)
Telling people off for trying to help
Forcing myself on DP as I have to have it (Bad DP as he already has a bad back)
Calling LO bump as sure "bump" will think this is his/her name at birth

NoSeriously · 17/11/2011 15:38

not taken prenatals as they make me vomit (lied to various HCPs regarding this too)

disappointed about having a boy.

Am fairly good about not eating aything I shouldn't, but only had 3 months between dd and this pregnancy so not really got out of habit the first time.

Although moved to the US where eating peanut butter in pg is practically insisted upon so shoving it down like its going out of style much to dh's dismay.

shezzle · 17/11/2011 15:45

Oh My God.....
Am on bubby No3 and haven't really read up on anything this time, I didn't know half the stuff you are not meant to do!!!!!!! With first baby midwives' only thing on the list was not eating uncooked egg yoke.
Well here goes....
Have had little bits of wine here and there
Eaten homemade carbonara where you show the eggs the pan then eat.
Eaten hams, prawns, mussels any other banned tasty things
Lots of cups of tea a day
1 coffee
Taken co-codomol regularly(two in morning and two at night) for severe preganancy induced knee pain, last time it was my shoulder and doc said these tablets were fine, but they have to be careful telling people to take things these days, Ibuprofen is a definite no-no but only if taken lots -not going to do any harm occasionally, apparently.
Lifting boxes of books at work(I work in a big bookshop) hence needing tablets for hellish knee pain in order to be able to bend and lift correctly
Running up escalator when it is lunchtime to get to food faster Blush

Thats quite a few guilt trips and I must admit I did feel bad about the carbonara- painkillers can't be helped it's either take them or be confined to the sofa eating, getting obese and being airlifted to give birth!!
Baby is kicking strongly, I feel really well and hope all will be fine am 19 weeks now. Love this post and am sure your beautiful babies will all be FINE!!!

jigglebum · 17/11/2011 15:48

Am loving this thread .. makes me feel much better about things!

My confessions -

  • this is no 2 and sad to say no where near as excited etc as for no 1 - as although a very much wanted no 2 I am MUCH more realistic this time round (oh and have a 3 year old to look after too - somehow takes the edge off the romanticism that goes with baby no 1)
  • odd glass of wine
  • too much coke and chocolate and general sugary crap
  • have also been painting, lifting etc due to house renovation
  • love cake mixture and DS loves cake baking so too much of that
  • grumpy with DS and DH when sleep has been in short supply
-not only have a stood near a goat, but have frequented animal parks a fair few times and even fed the sheep! (though not at lambing time)
  • have eaten a few forbidden cheeses (just a little bit each time!)
  • have not been wearing my hideous support stockings as much as I should - not comfortable and no hope for my hideous varicose veins now anyway I think
  • oh and I have used Canestan too - was prescribed the pessary and cream (don't think you are meant to take the tablet) - was a blessed relief so go for it (also told not to use the applicator though)

Oh there are so many more - I dread to think how neglected this poor baby will be when it arrives!!

thousandDenier · 17/11/2011 15:55

Stilton is fine now. I've been eating shitloads of it. I'll be having a rare steak as soon as I can get my swollen mitts on one because they're OK too.

HUZZAH

thousandDenier · 17/11/2011 15:56

I have not been bothering goats, mind.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 17/11/2011 16:02

Another Canesten rebel! :o

Haven't done mine yet, it says preferably at night time. I'm quite looking forward to it, it's the nearest I get these days to a sex life :o

WhyAlwaysBoris · 17/11/2011 16:09

Diet Coke,
Runny egg yolk in cafe breakfast x 2 occasions
2 week bad morning sickness period where the only food consumed AT ALL was toast with marmite (but a hell of a lot of it)
Not washing grapes, mushrooms, apples etc
Huge blood pressure spikes when lying to people about what we've been up to as we haven't told them about the PG yet
Getting into a complete fury listening to the Today programme or R4 (most days)
Possibly irradiating baby by balancing laptop on tummy

molly3478 · 17/11/2011 16:46

It is fine to eat mozarella I have eaten loads during pregnancy and they say its fine to eat.

LoveInAColdClimate · 17/11/2011 16:50

Smoked salmon? Flippin' smoked salmon? I have eaten my bodyweight in the stuff. Are we not meant to?

annekins · 17/11/2011 16:59
  1. Am eating too much sugar in its various yummy forms (probably also accounts for my membership of the Canestan club...)
  2. Not enough milk (I really don't like the taste/after taste) so have it has hot chocolate which contributes to guilt no. 1)
  3. Virtually no exercise - walked 5 miles a day to work and back before pg, but tiredness in first trimester, hip pain during 2nd and 3rd trimester and now an awkwardly sitting baby in 3rd trimester has put paid to that.
  4. Distinct lack of fruit and veg in my diet, thank god for vitamin tabs.
  5. Washing up has now been in kitchen for 4 days, I may get round to it tomorrow. I was hoping the house elf would do it, but remembered that I AM the house elf.

No other food related guilt, I strongly dislike even the smell of alcohol atm, and only want to eat boring cheddar cheese. I am contemplating a runny egg with soldiers though...
